Plumpjack is my go to spot to hang out, watch tv, chat with friends and eat great food. With out a doubt plumpys has the best atmosphere out of any restaurant in the valley, Truckee, and is up there with some of S.F's best bars and restaurants. The food is awesome and so are the employees. Love this place. If your in town and not sure where to go or what to do be sure to stop in at Plumpjacks. This place is by far just okay. I expected a lot more. The best thing this place has going for it is the location, other than that it's an upgraded Motel 6. As other people have mentioned the hotel is noisy. We stayed on the 2nd floor and we could hear our neighbors like they were in our room, and then we could hear a dog barking from the room below. Room decor is unoriginal. We were in a newly remodeled room too. And don't get me started on the shower - I felt like I was at a 24 hour fitness. The hot tubs were sub-par as well. The looked like cheap plastic tubs that were put in a hole in the ground. Staff was decent, but seemed inexperienced. For the price this place left a lot to be desired. My boyfriend and I stayed here on a Saturday night after flying our plane up to Tahoe. Coming away from this experience, we both agreed that this was the most positive hotel experience that we have had in 10 years, or maybe ever. The staff greeted us with complimentary glasses of champagne, and allowed us to check in almost three hours early. We sat by the pool and waited for our room, and our dogs were allowed to hang out anywhere they wanted. The place is dog friendly :) Bathrobes, complimentary bottle of wine and nuts in the room, and nice bathroom. Staff so friendly and helpful any time we walked by front desk. Beach cruisers free of use. The complimentary breakfast was the best hotel breakfast I have ever had, the homemade granola was out of this world. A whole spread of over 20 other things to choose from too. I would highly recommend this boutique hotel! read more

Totally agree about the "lodge on shrooms" description of this place, but location is super convenient (give me convenience or give me dead kennedys' please). OK, bad punk rock joke.. My friend's husband is the chef here, and honestly he takes great pride and care in the food he creates. Trust me, it will be great. Especially if you do like me and pour whiskey (Jamisons) into your hot choco before (and after) you hit the hills. Besides, the lift is right outside! read more

My husband and I got married at PlumpJack and can't be more complementary of the service, location and overall experience. Not only was the hotel amazing (just steps away from the base of Squaw and its village), the hotel's ambiance and service was exceptional. The food was FIVE STAR - just amazing! The staff on site was approachable, genuinely happy and enjoys making your stay as great as it could be. The hotel also offers complementary breakfast every morning (assortment of breads, belgium waffles, cereal, scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, fresh fruit and assorted coffee/juices...). Their lunch and dinner menu was also comprehensive and all the ingredients were fresh! Their cocktails were very good as well - We'd recommend their spicy bloody mary's and greyhounds! The restaurant/bar area was well run and the staff was attentive and professional. We definitely plan on staying there again (hopefully soon!) Perfect 5 star rating. Nice sized rooms that are clean and modern, specifically the bathrooms are nice with their soaps and things. The bar and restaurant are top notch. Great staff and excellent service. Reasonably priced as far as I am concerned. Hang out by the pool or in the hot tub and order drinks if you like. Decent gym with no one in there. I have no complaints what so ever about this place. Didn't notice the thin walls and noise, and we had kids in the room when there was a wedding. read more

Fantastic boutique hotel with friendly and welcoming staff from the minute you step foot inside. Included morning breakfast is awesome for skiing fuel and the 30 steps to get on the lift. Jake the bartender is a great mixologist and personable to chat with at the bar. Cons: no elevator which was no big deal and the Monday night bartender who's clearly only there to collect a paycheck. read more

Really enjoyed Plump Jack. We had a 1 bedroom suite. The bed was very comfortable and plenty of pillows. The living room part of our suite was very nice, I really enjoyed the chaise lounge style chair it was very comfortable. A little bigger frig would have been nice but it worked out. My daughter really liked the bath robes. The grounds were well maintained and very nice. One thing I also enjoyed was the small out of the way sitting areas. The breakfast was delicious and very fresh. No powdered eggs for the Plump Jack but fresh eggs were used for the scrambled eggs. The Granola was also homemade and delicious also. I would safely say it was the best breakfast I have had at a hotel. My wife and I daughter both ordered a burger and fries from room service and no surprise they both enjoyed the burger but the garlic fries were a big hit. The price I felt was reasonably for the quality and also the area. Last but not least was the staff, they definitely made our stay enjoyable. They were very friendly and helpful. My wife was sitting outside enjoying the pool side and a employee offered and brought her a nice cold glass of water. I have never had that experience at a Marriott, and I am a big Marriott fan. Definitely recommend staying at the Plump Jack. read more

Staying at the Plumb Jack was a delightful surprise.The service started right a way with valet parking, speedy check in, room service and storing our skiis. It was a great location for our Olympic reunion. The food was fresh and tasty, the bed very comfortable, daily maid service was provided and the decor was relaxing. It was quiet enough at night to allow us to have the window open. Eric at the front desk was especially helpful whether ordering a van, finding lost jackets, charging cell phones or recommending activities. We were treated like VIP's from check-in to check-out. read more

I booked a room for next weekend, only to find out that the hotel representative who I spoke with on the phone never actually finalized my reservation. It may have been the exceptional summer weather, but I really loved this little 15-room inn that's part of the Plumpjack group of businesses. I'm sure it's much more of a scene in the middle of the winter as it's located at the base of the mountain, but while my friends and I were there, it was very peaceful and there weren't many other guests. The staff was attentive and there's a nice little pool and jacuzzi to enjoy the sun. The restaurant that's part of the hotel was exquisite. Although I didn't mind the decor, my companions described it as Alice in Wonderland meets hippie on shrooms b/c of some of the metallic frames and sculptures. read more

The food is good, drinks are good, there's a good crowd... the place looks awesome... but here's the deal... when your bartender says "you're in my face" just because you're signaling him to make an order... that just won't fly... in order to be "in your face" the customer has to be loud and obnoxious... my wife was actually pretty courteous as she used to work in service and knows how people treat their servers... Arrived at Plumpjack yesterday with the intention of staying 4 nights. The weather is HORRIBLE and the mountain is closed. I asked if we could re-book our room for another time (not a refund), and the answer was no because they could have sold our room to another guest, however the hotel is not even close to being filled. I checked on the website and multiple rooms are available. I spoke to people that were staying in the village at Squaw and they were given a full refund. We didn't ask for a refund, we simply asked to come back another time. Really irritated. In addition to this, the hotel needs major updating. Yes it's an old building, however it has a funny smell and the rooms aren't up to expectation for the price. I have stayed at another Plumpjack (Carneros Inn), which was absolutely fantastic. This isn't even close.... Not sure I will stay here again, nor will I recommend it. read more

I planned a weekend getaway for me and the hubby this past weekend. We needed a little R&R and decided to stay in this quaint inn for the location and for the restaurant. I had noted in my reservation that it was my husband's birthday and the general manager emailed me to ask when we were checking in as he would leave a little welcome gift in the room for us. Well, of course we got to the hotel earlier than check in because we had a tee time at Northstar and wanted to drop our bags early. The front desk staff was so accommodating...they actually let us check in at 11 am! When we took our bags into the room, the manager had already put a bottle of wine and two glasses with a note in the room. What a nice touch! The room itself was really large and well appointed with a nice little table and two comfy chairs, large night stands and an area to hang your clothes (no enclosed closet). Our room was on the first floor, away from the lobby but overlooking the pool area. It was a handicap room which just meant that the bathroom had no shower enclosure. No big deal to us. The king bed was really comfy - not too firm, not too soft, with down pillows and just the right amount of bedding for summer time. The room had no air conditioning but did have a fan in the window. Since it got down to 40 degrees at night, it was perfect. That said, the only reason this inn received 3 stars is because of the really really thin walls ---- you could hear everything in the hallway, people out by the pool at 2 am and people walking the street. There was apparently a wedding earlier on and someone was screaming outside at about 1 am. Since we overlooked the pool, the metal gate into the pool area from the parking lot was right outside our window. I guess the inn doesn't lock off the pool area because that gate was slamming until 2 am. Needless to say, not the most restful sleep I have gotten. But the room came with breakfast the next morning and it was pretty tasty. Served in the bar and out on the patio, the breakfast buffet included eggs, bacon, pastries, cereals, mini waffles, coffee, fresh squeezed OJ and other juices. It was really a nice surprise from the traditional continental breakfasts at other hotels. And the location of the inn was great as you could walk right outside to the Squaw Valley cable car and village. We went over to Uncorked, the wine merchant and bar, to check out their Flowers wine tasting. Very cool. read more

Very cute perfect location but it needs a bit of love for the price. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There is no way in god's green earth to sleep in passed 6am. Both days we were awoken by the loudest garbage trucks and tractors. Please note there is no elevator in this hotel which isn't a problem for us but might be for others. We stayed in the penthouse room which was clean, we peaked into some other rooms and for the price I would recommend spending a bit more and getting a larger room with better amenities, being on the top floor has its perks since the walls are thin being its an older inn. The breakfast was amazing and by for one of the better buffets I have had the pleasure of attending. Room was well stocked with blankets and pillows, bed comfy, shower had good water pressure (HEY THAT MATTERS!) however the honor bar needs some help. The only thing stocked in the fridge was beer. No soda, No juice. They provided only two kurigs of coffee for only 2 cups for 2 people, the creamer in the fridge was bad and was not restocked the next day after we tossed it. read more

Dined last weekend in the bar area. Check your glasses before you drink your beverages. 3 out of 4 water glasses had lipstick on them. 2 out of 2 glasses were dirty with their famous pineapple drink. We came to Tahoe to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary and we were planning on staying at the Franciscan Lakeside Lodge. We just had a baby so we had her with us and we ordered a studio with a king size bed. When we arrived, they gave us a queen size bed with no a/c. There was no way we could have her sleep in there and the front desk guy was so completely rude. We ended up calling PlumpJack and they literally saved the day. We told them what happened and they accommodated us right away and even gave us a discount on the room. I was so disappointed with the way our anniversary had started out and when we arrived at PlumpJack they were absolutely amazing. The hotel and room were absolutely perfect and we would stay here again and again. Thank you for helping us out in a bind. read more

The time of our lives! We just spent four magical days in this Tahoe gem. The boutique hotel is nestled in the woods and is complete with a fabulous restaurant, a pool, fantastic location, and the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in- too bad it wouldn't fit in our rental car. My husband and I were truly thrilled with the outcome of our wedding at PlumpJack. The venue itself is beautiful, with a stunning mountain backdrop and a rustic feel. The planning process was made incredibly easy by their phenomenal sales team who walked us through every little step and helped us decide on even the smallest things. They were not at all pushy, and gave us their honest appraisal of what we should spend our money on to best entertain our guests. The planning process was completed well in advance so that we didn't have to worry about it close to our wedding date, the team provided recommendations for local vendors (since we had a destination wedding), and they were unbelievably helpful on the day of my wedding to make sure things were set up the way I had envisioned them. It was so much fun having the wedding at such a small and intimate resort that really cares about your happiness and will do whatever they can to make your day special. Would of given 5 stars, but, I want to know why you advertise pictures, of roasted marsh mellows, insinuating that people can roast marsh mellows, when in fact for several years in a row. we have been turned down, or staff has said, I will get back to you and let you know if this is OK, and never got an answer back? Even if there was a Wedding out on the patio, we were willing to wait until the wedding was over, which we told staff we would wait until wedding was over, and still were told no, or didn't get an answer. All in all this is still a great place to stay. At this point it's not going to matter, because it sounds like they will be tearing this building down and building a new building. It would be nice if a fire pit was included in the new building, that people could use. read more

We recently celebrated our first anniversary at Plumpjack and really enjoyed our stay here. The hotel is extremely convenient to the slopes and it is very comfortable. The staff did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable. My mom even called in and requested that strawberries, chocolate and wine be sent to our room. The surprise appeared right after we finished skiing and she indicated that the hotel was very accommodating. Apparently they purchased strawberries for us even though this isn't something they normally have. The breakfasts are delicious and include warm foods like potatoes and eggs as well as your traditional continental fare. I enjoyed the fitness center which was surprisingly well equipped. Everything was great! We really loved it here. read more

We were here during the quietest time of year, October, for a wedding. The wedding itself was intimate, lovely, and fun. The hotel was priced quite reasonably for off season. We had a wonderful time. the staff was incredibly helpful and kind, the breakfast was amazing and plentiful, they accommodated our pup with joy and ease. The free bikes were really welcome, and they staff had lots of suggestions about things to do with our dog. We loved the small hot tubs outside, and we loved how quiet things were. The food in the bar was fantastic and we highly recommend it. We'll definitely be back--but only in off season since we like when there's no one else around! read more

Came here for a Fall wedding. The scenery was beautiful with the mountains in the background. Cocktail hour, which was held outdoor by the pool, was less than pleasant due to the chilly temperature and winds. The available outdoor heaters provided little warmth. Also the appetizers were scarce but I guess I was fortunate to have had three samples. Our reception dinner was a let down. The medium rare steak was chewy and bland. The only highlight was the salad. What it was escapes me now. The hotel is ideally located in Squaw Valley, it was walking distance to everything. The price tag did not meet my expectations. Minimalist but tacky drabby decor. Felt like a 2 star motel given a bare bone makeover. The room did not feel clean and upon closer inspection my intuition proved to be spot on. The blinds had a caked on layer of dust. As for the bathroom, the lotions were used and had dried crusts on the pump. The towels and robes were like sandpaper. Use any hotel amenities cautiously as it carries a hefty price tag. The staff was decent but not particular friendly, welcoming or hospitable. Maybe that's the atmosphere in the valley. Built in breakfast buffet was probably where they shine. Good variety of breakfast food. read more

Something about this hotel is so fun. The pool, the bar, the location. The scent of the shampoo and the thick robes. The rooms are very simple, and it works. Winter for skiing and summer for hiking, we have been going several times per year since they opened. It is clean clean clean. Once in a while we run in to a little attitude at the front desk, and we do think that their pet fee is high, although we commend them for donating part of it to the SPCA. But they are the only hotel at Squaw to allow dogs so they can get the fee and at least they are willing to do it at all. Props to them for that. So it's a big thumbs up from us! read more

Stayed here in late September for Ironman Lake Tahoe. Great room. Loved the way they updated an old hotel. Room was spacious and plenty of room for all the gear. Having the mini fridge was great. Included hot breakfast was wonderful. Everything was freshly cooked. Only downside to the hotel is climate control. Like many older buildings in Tahoe, the room doesn't have air conditioning so climb control is a matter of figuring out how open to have the window. Would definitely stay here again though. read more

I recently got married at PlumpJack and it was the best decision I made for my entire wedding (other than the groom, of course)! From the day we decided to hold our wedding at PlumpJack the service was phenomenal! They were very attentive to detail and helped make the wedding planning process easy. The food and drinks were great and they even went out of their way to be able to allow my beer loving husband to bring in some of his own cellared collection. Our guests loved the venue and said that it was the most beautiful place for a wedding and hands down the best wedding they had ever been to. I can't say enough good things about PlumpJack and their exceptional staff! If you are looking for an intimate mountain wedding, this is the perfect venue! We will be back again for years to come! OK, I am writing this from my room at Plumpjack's right now. We bring the kids up here and either get one of the two suites or two rooms a couple of times a year to ski. The location is fantastic, a two minute walk to the cable car or a four minute walk to the Funnitel. The rooms are OK, they've been renovated and are much lighter than they used to be. The bathrooms are the same. My two complaints are that the hotel is a bit noisy (I can hear our neighbor's music now) and you must fight for food at Squaw Valley during holiday weekends. Only a couple of the restaurants in the village take reservations, so unless you want to eat all of your meals at 22 Cafe and the Plumpjack restaurant you end up either eating at 5:00pm (no thanks) or getting on hour long wait lists. The bar at Plumpjacks has good food, but it's such a scene there is no good time to eat. It's fine when it's not a school holiday weekend, though. If you plan on coming here during ski week (only even consider that if you have to because of your kids' schedule) you will need to strategize your lunches and dinners. Make reservations at the places you can in the village. Just across from the village is a restaurant called Graham's that also takes reservations and is great. If you want dinner and have no reservations go sign up on a list about 45 minutes to an hour before you will be hungry. Plumpjack has a very good breakfast buffet (real maple syrup for the waffles!). I just wish lunch were easier to deal with at this resort. Perhaps they could open the restaurant for lunch during ski week. read more

I have no idea why anyone would ever give this place a negative review. Plumpjack is a great place to stay for a reasonable price in Squaw village. When we initially looked into staying at Plumpjack we looked at the prices online and initially wrote it off as being too much. I called to get a direct room quote and was pleased that the per night cost was $100 less than what was online. The hotel has a definite San Francisco feel. The decor is very modern and minimalist. The room was very clean and comfortable. Nice big bathroom with a great shower and nice products. The location is excellent. Walk out of your room, walk a few steps and you are at the lift. An above average breakfast buffet is included in the room price and is served until 10. I didn't use the gym facility but it was very nice with new equipment. Great jacuzzi but they are small (the maximum capacity is 5). Luckily they are 2 and the pool area was never crowded so the size didn't matter than much. The staff in the restaurant, bar, and front desk were very helpful and friendly. If I get the opportunity I would definitely stay here again. read more

PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn was the absolute best wedding venue. I don't even know where to start. To begin with, Marion Rogers was a delight to work with. She is patient, informative and highly organized- all things you're looking for when you're the bride to be. She made my wedding day effortless, stress-free and ensured every single detail was executed properly. She was calm, sweet and very efficient. Love Marion. Next, the chefs at Plumpjack are just incredible. Our food was over the top outstanding. Months after our wedding we still had guests complimenting the cuisine on our big day. Lasting, the hotel accommodations were fabulous for guests- from the rooms, to the hotel bar to the high-quality bikes available at the front desk- this hotel made our wedding weekend quite memorable for all guests. In addition to all of the above, you can't beat the mountainous view. Extra bonus- there are late night bars and eats in the village (walking distance) for those guests who want to keep the party going even after the wedding. I adore Plumpjack and would highly recommend for all brides and guests just looking for a fabulous weekend away! read more
