Had to set-up heat lamps and umbrellas on our own, even though we informed staff a large group would be going outside (forecasted for light rain and it was cold) for drinks and cigars. More than half of the heat lamps didn't work. The food and beverage manager comes out and sees that we had brought drinks of our own (2 bottles with a group of 10+) and in a very condescending manner said "we do have a full service bar inside". Never mind the fact that we had already spent a few hundred at the bar the night before, more on this night and the next (easily +$2k). His unprofessional and contentious manner didn't stop there. What happens next is inexcusable and deplorable and destroyed what was a great trip and experience until then (despite his manner on the patio). While parents were enjoying drinks/food/cigars in the patio area outside the restaurant, some of our boys wanted to have dinner in the restaurant. I escorted them in and the same food and beverage manager says "oh you again". I have no words for how to respond to that, whatever. I let him know the boys will be having dinner and I would prefer a window seat for them. There were 3 open window seats. He said they all had reservations, but could seat them in the bar area (they are minors). I said your kidding right, that doesn't work so you need to find them a seat in the restaurant and again window is preferred. He sat them in the back of the restaurant and the entire time I was on the patio watching, the window seats stayed empty. Really unfortunate how the inappropriate and shameful actions of one individual can negatively impact the experience for someone and future profits for a business. My friend had his wedding here back in 2012, which turned out to be a nice weekend getaway since we had the option of snowboarding a couple days before and after the actual wedding. The hotel itself is dated and I don't remember it being all that nice. I actually remember the phone in my room not working and I had to get the hotel to come and fix it. However, this hotel is extremely convenient if you want to ski/snowboard at Squaw because it shares the same parking lot as the resort. My friends wedding was very beautiful and memorable because it was outdoors with the beautiful snowy mountains in the background, and the area where the ceremony was held was decorated really nice by the hotel. I wouldn't mind coming back here for another wedding, but I probably wouldn't stay here if I had a choice. read more

I think you should lower your pet fees. They are outrageous. You should charge a nightly fee just as you do guests and lower the price. I always travel with my dog and I'll never stay there again because of the way your pet policy is structured. I stayed with you for one night, had a $2000 event in your hotel and I received no discounts or special treatment given I gave your hotel quite a bit of revenue (several people in my party also stayed at your hotel) I was charged a "rental fee" for the patio which is crazy! The portion sizes for the meals at my event were incredibly small. We had a serious bug problem and had to ask for candles which your staff should have prepared for. Overall, I felt nickeled and dimed at my event and as a guest. I will not recommend your hotel to anyone. read more

The location at the foot of the mountain is what has kept us coming back for numerous years around my Birthday. Unlike some hotels who make a point of keeping track of their clients, each time we check in we get asked: "Have you stayed here before?" This year we booked a suite: Rm 220. The rooms were comfortable as usual but we were surprised that although we were on the second floor we could not see out the windows because of all the snow piled up. Literally, except for electric light, both the bedroom and the living room were pitch black. Thank goodness the electric lights in the suites seem to be stronger than in the single rooms we've had. As I was passing by other rooms on the same floor and side (supposedly mountain view) with their doors open as the maid was cleaning you could see out, so I think they just shoved some of the snow back into a corner? and we were the unlucky ones. The staff has gotten increasingly surly over the years. On our second morning at breakfast (which starts at 7:30 am), by 8 am they were out of eggs, granola and croissants. When I asked the person behind the counter about the granola he snapped at me that they were out and when I asked how long it would take to get more he said at least one hour. Hard to know why if they are low on something they don't make it the day before. Granola keeps. The guy at reception was only concerned about insistently pushing valet service on us for parking (it is free) so he could get a tip. The clientele has also changed over the years. The last couple of times we've stayed it looks like they are having conventions of young techies rather than skiers. This time around 8am someone walked in both days and said "we are moving into the other room" and the place cleared out. Our experience has been increasingly disappointing each year. We think that that next year we will look for some place else to stay read more

Pricey, pricey--but pet friendly. The compromises we have to make to bring our furry baby along. We were a bit surprised by the room decor for the price--ugly tile shower stall, concrete slab entrance and bathroom. I imagine it's for easy clean up after trekking in the snow--but you'd think by the time you walk through the carpeted hallways, it wouldn't be a problem. Otherwise, the location makes it an awesome choice--right next to the gondola/lift to High Camp, rentals at the Inn, and just a stone's throw to the Village for some eats. I guess if we want to come with the pup, we'll be back. read more

I have stayed here, eaten here and planned weddings here. The location is superb right at the base of Squaw Valley and the Village at Squaw Valley. You can walk to the Squaw Valley USA Ski Resort and the Village to shop, get something to eat and drink, etc. The rooms are super trendy and comfy with good views. The pool is small but intimate and the bar is really cozy especially in the winter time. It's a great place to get married because they provide excellent service and food. Their ballrooms are beautiful and the pool area for your cocktail reception is beautiful. Their staff is super friendly and always helpful. It's a very romantic location and a great place for Apres Ski cocktails and food. read more

PlumpJack has solid basic rooms and a very friendly staff. They have cruiser bikes you can borrow from the front desk to go wherever you want, and the restaurant and bar are both very good. Most importantly, though, if you like peace and quiet in the morning this place is probably not for you. As others here have mentioned, each morning between 6 and 7 a.m. a loud trash pickup occurs in the parking lot outside the hotel. With no air conditioning in the hotel, your choices in the summer are to close the windows and be too warm, or leave them open and be woken up by the sound of dumpsters slamming on the pavement and the beep-beep of the truck's backup noise. Also of note: the pool is a very small wading pool (3.5ft everywhere), so all you can really do is look at it. Wi-Fi reception is also very bad in the pool area. read more

The food, wine and service was outstanding! So much thought and preparation put into each dish, it showed! Our wine recommendations paired quite well with both our entrees. The menu offerings were very unique, and the wine list was exceptional. However I must mention that in my opinion, there are two aspects of a dining experience that "make" it an experience - the food and the ambience. While the restaurant has a beautiful physical environment, we were surrounded by children that were clearly allowed to behave as if they were if they were in their own homes. As an educator I have a large amount of patience and tolerance, and our first night in Squaw Valley, and first visit to PlumpJack tested my patience. While I understand an establishment wants to cater to all customers, this was not an exemplary example of having an acute awareness of the overall ambience in the main dining area. To give some concrete examples - two children were playing on their electronic devices without headphones so we had the pleasure of hearing the game as well. Two other young girls were being egged on by the adults at the table to wave their napkins while jumping up and down while laughing and expressing their excitement. Of the eight tables in our vicinity four of them had children younger than the age of ten and we could hear all four tables. Again, we loved everything else about our dinner, however when spending $200+ for date with my husband, I do have higher expectations. We did bring up the issue three times, twice during our meal and once as we were leaving, it seemed "out of their control". So who then should have been in control of the situation if parents allow their children to act as if they are at Chuckie Cheese? read more

We recently planned a wedding here and the venue was great. We love the option that you can buyout the entire hotel for a weekend, giving your wedding guests a true "Tahoe" experience. This is our third night at this hotel and I still have not gotten a decent night's sleep yet. Part of the problem is that our room is on the ground floor, not even 15 feet from the road. It is summer and hot, so in a hotel with no air conditioning it is a necessity to sleep with the window open if you want to breathe. The first night we woke at 1 am to groaning pipes. When I called the front desk the person on night duty came in and played with the thermostat and the groaning stopped. This seems odd to me. Then not even 10 minutes later there was a high speed chase that went past our window. At 6 am the delivery trucks started arriving and sat idoling while the driver made his deliveries. The second night was better, but at 7 am someone was vacuuming the hallway and the delivery trucks again! The third night, a music festival in the Village Shops across the road lasted until about 1 am. Then a group of people at 6:30 am talking outside our window. Then again with the delivery trucks. At 7:15 am someone discovered a black bear and her cubs in the tree outside our window, so no sleeping again. Some highlights: 1. Thursday night wine night with the winemaker. 2. Cool decor and cozy colors 3. Clean rooms 4. Friendly staff 5. Great dining 6. Very close to the ski lifts. I give this hotel 3 stars because I think that if our room had been in a better location, it would have been a lot quieter. The rest of our experience here was pleasant. read more

I have to concur with that Leslie N. PR diva chick. All in all a really great place to stay while in Squaw Valley. A bit more pricey than most places, but here's what you get: - Staff - Took great care of us and had positive friendly attitudes all around. Sounds corny, but the staff is one of Plumpjack's biggest assets. Super friendly and accommodating. - Location - WOW!, a stone's throw from the ski lifts....literally! Think about this for a minute when you consider the prices. Because it's right there, you get to skip the dreaded morning routine and anxiety of trying to rush to get up, get dressed, packed up and on the road. Skip the hassle, skip the traffic, skip the parking fees and fuss. Sleep an extra hour, then roll out of bed, grab a free breakfast and head out. Also nice to walk to the village for dinner and drinks. Again, skip the need for a cab or a designated driver after happy hour beers. - Rooms - I have stayed in a regular 1 bed and a penthouse suite. Both were very nice. Some would call cold and drab because of the carpet, stone, metal and glass. A bit on the "industrial" side of decor. Personally I like that, utilitarian but contemporary. Bathrooms were modern, clean and very spacious. Beds were very comfortable. Rooms are spacious too. - Restaurant and Bar - Free breakfast buffet in the morning. Great food!....and included in the price. Another thing to consider when looking at the prices. A good breakfast for 2 would easily run $30 - $40 elsewhere. Bar is a nice place to chill with a beer. Restaurant is top notch as well. Food is gourmet, get the scallops! Wine list is insane. Didn't get to use the pool or hot tubs, but they look nice....next time. All of that, plus they are dog friendly. Dogs or no dogs, this place is very nice & worth the $. If you are looking to splurge a little on yourself or a date, check it out. read more

Just returned from three nights at the hotel. Had a very quiet room upstairs and slept amazingly well each night. The superior king room was a good size, but although the front desk confirmed that we got a room with a view, there was really no view to speak of. Liked: 1. Diego the bartender-extremely warm and friendly 2. Location 3. Front desk staff-very welcoming and generous with recommendations 4. Breakfast and in room one cup coffee maker The hotel is in desperate need of a true lounge where you can relax on a sofa with a drink and unwind. The bar area is very small and there seems to be a lot of pressure to eat at the bar and not take a seat to simply have a cocktail. Also, it would have been very nice if the fireplace inside the cafe and near the pool had been turned on in the evenings. All in all I found the hotel pretty comfy and conducive to relaxation. read more

Not a kid friendly! Hotel is outdated and overpriced...very noisy rooms, with trash pickup every morning at 6am. Breakfast does not open until 7:30, and there is nowhere to go before then. The lobby is very small, and there is no elevator to use. Staff was friendly, but they seemed to be understaffed as it was always a wait to get help. Called the front desk from our room multiple times with no answer. We will find another hotel next time. read more

Last weekend, my wife and I had the privilege to be part of our son's wedding and reception at PlumpJack. There are few superlatives imitate employ that would do the experience justice. Apart from the actual event, the hotel exceeded all expectations. The friendliness and hospitality at the initial check in were indicative of the weekend. Every single guest/staff interaction was literally perfect. From room service to dining room to wait staff to maid service to literally every aspect of catering could not have been better. In my professional life, I have travelled the world. I have never felt as welcomed and appreciated as I did at PlumpJack. From the buffet breakfast to the banquet dinner, there was nary a flaw. I recommend this hotel and venue without any reservation whatsoever! a WOW! read more

I really like this in. It's very dog friendly, the rooms are clean, comfortable, and cozy. It's a really nice little boutique hotel. They also have an excellent wine list. The complimentary breakfast is great. They make their breads and pastries. The staff went out of their way to make our dogs feel welcome. There were dog beds, dishes, and biscuits in the room. The hotel is a bit older looking on the outside, but the inside is updated and clean. The pool and spa area are attractive, but the pool and two spas are somewhat small. There is a little fitness center you can use if the need be. The location of this inn is great! It's steps away from the gondola and squaw village. All in all it is a comfortable, fun, and convenient place to stay if you want spend a long weekend in the area and not drive at all. Squaw valley is super dog friendly and we had a great time! read more

To put it bluntly, the restaurant is great but the rooms are not at all. Especially considering what you pay for them. Walls are paper thin, rooms were small, low ceilings, noisy, no closet, just shower, not very clean, stained and worn out carpets, and non professional room service. Now admittedly we were in one of the 'dog friendly' rooms downstairs but still, if we are paying $425/night + $150 for the dog plus resort fees for a Superior King room I expect something much better. Maybe during summer when the pool and patio is open it's different... On the other hand the restaurant was excellent. If you have to stay there, for the convenience or whatever, make sure you ask for something on the 2nd floor. read more

Decent hotel. Lobby is beautiful and the bar is cozy. Rooms need a dramatic update. We travelled during the summer, so the lack of proper air conditioning was an issue. The pool and hot tubs are great and comfortable. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. I feel that the summer amenities could be improved to attract more visitors and make the stay more pleasant during that time. Bikes are available but it might be worth the investment to offer summer activities led or directed by a staff member. During ski season I imagine that void fills :) I feel strange only giving the place three stars because we had a pleasant visit. It's just not a spectacular room and the amenities are lacking during summer months. The location is ideal! I would go back during the winter in a heartbeat. read more

I would not recommend staying here unless there was nothing else. Walls are thin and on this particular weekend our room neighbors are college girls. It is almost 11 pm and they are laughing and singing their little hearts out in their room. I called the hotel front desk and after I ask them to quiet the girls down, the clerk says "there are a lot of weddings this weekend." This really annoyed me. I told her to encourage these partyers to go to the bar. She halfheartedly said she would try....not what I wanted to hear. read more

I wanted so bad to like this place! It was a very cute hotel and the staff was accommodating and nice, although there were several things wrong with the stay. We were given a room right by a street, which isn't too much of a problem as I didn't pay for a view. Then we went to the hot tub which was very cold, with cold water being shot by the jets. I get it's an old hot tub, but maybe a sign when you're having them filled up? It was to the point where we wouldn't even get in all the way. As for breakfast, I'm sure it was delicious but we didn't get to try. The set up they have down there is very confusing, with NO help. We went into the dining room to see if there was anyone to help, and there was literally a fort of chairs built up to block half of the room. Don't know what was going on, but it was so uninviting we just decided to pack up our stuff and leave. read more

How can a hotel not be ADA complaint? Wow really shocked... I stayed for a conference and I would never go back for fun and leisure. The hotel was hands down the worst experience I have had in a long time. The rooms are really noisy. It sounded like the people talking on the other side of the wall were in my room. The floor squeaked badly and when I was laying in bed and moving around it made the floor squeak as well. In the morning both days they ran out of food and I had to wait 20 minutes so they could bring more to the buffet read more

I spent the weekend at Plumpjack for my step sister's wedding. It was awesome. As a longtime resident / visitor of Lake Tahoe, my family always stayed away from Squaw Valley. My Dad worked for Northstar for years so it was like the enemy to go there! Well, boy have I missed out. Sqauw Valley was very pretty and a nice retreat from the rest of very busy Lake Tahoe. There is a little village that has great shops, restaurants, bars, etc. The Plumpjack Resort did such a tasteful job with the wedding, I was seriously impressed. It was graceful yet casual, fun, yet not overdone. Wonderful. The rooms were a little weird in terms of decor but overall I really thought the place was well done. Breakfast was included with the room and was fantastic. I just loved it. read more

Fantastic stay during the summer for a wedding. Our room was great, albeit a bit hot without AC, but the pool was refreshing to cool us off. The cafe is fantastic for a casual light fare by the pool, but of course it helps that they will bring me a drink directly to my lounge chair. I was really impressed with how affordabe it was and that it didn't break the bank. It even includes breakfast - and not the kind that is just cereal and crusted-over pastries - WARM food, fruit and plenty of options. The staff was fantastic and I would definitely recommend it to friends, especially those with pets. read more

Can't believe they don't have hundreds of reviews! This spot is one of the standards at Squaw. The bar serves quality bistro food- in the winter they usually have a fondu on the menu which I just melt over. And the dining room is just decadent. Locals save it for special occasions, birthdays, anniversaries, when parents come into town, etc. The food is california bistro and the deserts are to die for...so save room! read more

Came here for dinner and drinks, the hostess sat me down with my service dog in the main dining area and said it was fine. I suffer from mental issues that have left me hospitalized for weeks at a time and it's imperative my dog is with me at all times. The food runner or cook, not sure who he was(possibly a manager) with light brown curly hair came over and started questioning me about my disability. He was extremely rude, had a scowl on his face, and made it very clear I was not welcome nor was my dog. I couldn't believe how brash and rude he was. I worked in the service industry before, and in no way shape or form was what he did acceptable. My friend and I had been very polite to everyone at PlumpJack, we're quiet, and him approaching our table rudely and basically hounding me with questions about my disability was beyond rude. He should definitely be fired, if I was a restaurant owner I would never want someone like that working for me. What a terrible look for the whole establishment to allow someone like that to work for them. I'm sure it's not the first time he's run into issues with customers. Seemed like a bad seed regardless of this incident. read more

Spent a gorgeous weekend here for a wedding. And i never had to leave. The breakfast was wonderful and came with your room stay, the second morning had peanut butter and banana french toast that was amazing (among the other traditional breakfast foods). The gym was great for the size, they have cruiser bikes that you can use for free which is pretty cool and your right across the way from some pretty cool touristy shops and activities. The rooms were nice and beds were very comfy. However, there were a few disappointments. There is no air conditioning, so the ceiling fans were as good as it got. and the worst part is that the walls are SO thin. I could literally hear someone using the restroom UPSTAIRS while i was in my room downstairs. I had to sleep with earplugs in just to not hear footsteps. And this had nothing to do with the amount of people or anything crazy, the place was just so squeaky you couldn't avoid it. For the amount of money your paying for the room you think you could get a bit of privacy. I guess my advice is to get an upstairs room, then you won't have to worry about it. read more

This is the third time we stayed here at PlumpJack and each time I am happy with the service. The price is higher than Village Inn and the Lodge in the Village but it's worth it. The price includes the breakfast buffet. The location is right next tot he village and a short walk to the cable car and funitel. We will definitely return here again. The fitness center is not big but a lot of guests does not use them so you'll literally have the room to yourself. The rooms are clean, the sheets are fresh. I did not try the bar but it looks lively in the evening. read more

A lovely boutique hotel with helpful staff. The rooms are unusual but very comfy with comfy beds, bath robes, slippers, and nice quality shampoo/soap products in the shower. Expensive - but worth it. Pet friendly doesn't begin to describe them. The hotel manager (Kristina) took our dog to and from the 'doggie day care' each day so we could hit the slopes without taking the 40min round trip drive each morning. Amazing! Above and beyond! The front desk staff is made up, for the most part, of dog owners/lovers. Our dog loved them. Breakfast was also really great -- and should be considered when you're thinking about how much the room costs. As for the complaints of noise.. we did hear our upstairs neighbors when they arrived (wearing their ski boots?) clomping around. But it was otherwise quiet. And the hotel was FULL when we were there. We had a 'superior' room -- so maybe insulation was added to those rooms when they were remodeled? read more

We were staying with small children and couldn't have found Plumpjack more accommodating, friendly and comfortabe. The staff in every department from front desk, housekeeping to the breakfast room was friendly and helpful. The rooms were very cozy with the most comfortable beds we have ever found in a hotel. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of variety and great coffee. We have stayed at three other Tahoe properties in the past but Plumpjack is our new favorite! read more

I was in Squaw for the long weekend and wanted a nice place to eat on our last day. The ambiance and decor is pretty swank inside but the wait staff are all super chill. Food wise, all the dishes we ordered were pretty good. For appetizers, we ordered the spinach salad with poached egg, the poke and the butternut squash soup with crab cake. For our entrees, I got the vegetable pot pie and it was good but interesting. It was kind of like a pot pie sandwich with vegetables sandwiched in between two crusts. I didn't recognize most of the vegetables I was eating and it was heavily covered in sauce. It's quite a pricey place so be prepared to splurge. read more
