Have you ever been somewhere where you swear everyone who works there must be related because they all have the same cheerful demeanor and attitude? Well, Plumpjack exudes family-style hospitality. If you're there to ski, you're less than a three-minute walk to the lifts and the village, maybe five minutes if you're wearing ski boots. I was there for a friend's wedding. They did a tremendous job on all fronts. The rooms were adequate, the food was good, and again, the staff was fantastic. They go the extra mile if you have any requests. They could write to book on creating a great customer experience! There are no elevators so keep that in mind. Also, I could hear the people above me clomping around throughout the day. I think they must have kept their ski boots on all the time, and spent the rest of their time dropping their luggage on the floor. Talk about harshing one's mellow!! Anyway, even the noisy clodhoppers above me couldn't sway my opinion of loving my stay at PlumpJack Inn!

My husband and I got married at the end of September and still can't stop talking about how incredible our wedding was at PlumpJack. Not only was the venue in the most stunning location with beautiful views (especially with the fall colors), the team we worked with at PJ were absolutely wonderful. I firmly believe the group of people who are tasked with organizing and executing your wedding day can make or break the day, and we couldn't have been happier. We owe a HUGE thank you to Sarah, Bonnie, Rob and the rest of their team who made our wedding day perfect and far better than anything we could have expected. From the initial venue tour, to the many emails to ensure every detail was perfect, the accommodations made, and executing everything seamlessly on our wedding, I can say with full confidence we would do it all over again in a heartbeat. We are so happy with our decision to have our wedding at PlumpJack. Not only was the staff wonderful, and the location super dreamy, but the food was AMAZING. We chose to serve our guests fish and steak, and we were so impressed with how it turned out! We also really enjoyed the drink selections and know our guests did too! If you are looking for a venue that has it all, PlumpJack is the place- you will not be disappointed!

First time ever visiting Squaw Valley/Tahoe area and could not have asked for a better experience! I was immediately charmed by the cozy aesthetic and the incredibly attentive staff as soon as we arrived. We were welcomed with a bottle of wine and bowl of popcorn (that was actually incredible!) and were ready to start exploring. When we spoke to the gentleman at the front desk, we were recommended one of the most beautiful trails I've ever hiked and were taken with how gorgeous the entire area is. Upon our return back to the hotel, we ended up renting a few bikes and doing some more exploring. The fact that you can rent a bike WITH a basket and ride around the grounds is one of the most charming and whimsical ideas and it really added to our experience. We loved our room, it had everything we needed and it took everything in me not to take every single bottle of soap/shampoo/conditioner because they all smelled incredible! Overall, it was an amazing experience that I definitely plan on repeating. The entire staff was a pleasure, everyone was more than friendly and attentive and were quick to offer some great ideas to enhance our stay and visit in the area. Thank you for a wonderful time!

We stayed in a studio which had a full kitchen (including a microwave, electric kettle, dishwasher, and stove), a fireplace, and a pullout couch which slept an additional two people. The wifi comes with the room and was fast enough for me to be able to WFH. The bathroom has a tub and there were plenty of towels. Parking is also included and is in a garage. The check-in process was easy (starts at 4pm) and the front desk was very friendly. When we checked out, the front desk was closed (it was before 9am) but we were able to leave the gratuity envelope at the desk along with the key cards. They do recycle the cards and there's a receptacle indicating such. There is a small "gym" with a treadmill and stationary bike (no weights). There are hot tubs available by reservation. Overall, the location is good as it's right next to Olympic Village and the slopes of Squaw Valley. The decor was wolf-themed as befits the name and it's a cozy, homey stay.

Things falling into disrepair is becoming more and more obvious and its mostly little things but as they add up, they matter more. The phone didn't work, the soap dispenser rack was broken, the cabinets didnt shut evenly, chipping paint...nothing major, but they add up and make me question if I want to keep coming back. But....Here is something that absolutely ticks me off. I ordered a round of drinks from the pool bar, automatic 18% gratuity added to the room charge for drinks that I had to stand up, wait in line under the hot sun on hot pool deck, order and carry them back to my chair by myself. I am not anti tipping, and typically I am a very generous tipper but I have a standing personal rule. IF I HAVE TO ORDER STANDING UP, ITS WORTH A COUPLE BUCKS. ITS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT WORTH 18%. I was annoyed, but whatever. So the next day, I took cash to the pool to avoid the 18% auto gratuity and was told that they do not accept cash. So forcing me to pay 18% gratuity for mediocre(actually poor) service. That's unacceptable to me. Now had a a cocktail server come around to take my order and bring my drink? I would happily pay 18% all day and maybe even more. Forcing me to pay 18% for no service is just wrong and makes me not want to go back.

We did have issues accessing the room since we were staying with a friend. She said she put us on the reservation but they were asking for her email and reservation number which we didn't have so we did have to wait until 5:00 when she arrived to access the room. We recommended to the front desk to offer at least access the pool. I do feel this should have been offered to off set the issue without us having to recommend it. When we did finally access the room which she had gotten a 2 bedroom penthouse it appeared to be a beautiful room with a very nice view. When we went upstairs to access the bedrooms one of the rooms appeared not to be clean. The bed sheets had a black mark on edge of the sheets. When I went to take a shower later in the evening the floor was sticky. Upon looking closer there was liquid all over the floor which appeared to be either soda or alcohol. At this time in the evening I just wiped it up. We had to call several times for luggage that never arrived. We ended up going to dinner and grabbing it ourselves at the counter. They let us know when we went down to the counter they were busy when we checked in. If this was the situation they should have let us know instead of us having us wait for a long time. We ended up having to leave for dinner. It's the little things that could really improve the resort. It just seems like the staff we encountered during our stay was lacking customer service and training. I don't say this lightly because I do feel little things can happen but it was a common issue during our overnight. If someone is staying in a 1300.00 a night room I do believe a certain level of service should be expected. Maybe they were short staffed since it was a Sunday or had new staff during the summer season. The other issue we encounter was when accessing the locker room while it's open until 8:00 pm it would have been good for the staff to say they will lock their doors early at 6:00 pm and we will have to enter through the gym. My heart sank when we tried to enter through the spa and it was locked. We had to look around to figure out how to enter the locker room through the gym to access our items in the lockers. Again it's the little things that affect the overall stay.

Even though we were next to the pool and hot tub, it was fairly quiet. Unlike other hotels we stayed at, the walls were thick and we could not hear our neighbors next door or people outside. The only gripe I had about this place is that they did not provide breakfast. I can't remember the last time we stayed at a hotel and no continental breakfast. The furniture and décor created a warm, relaxing atmosphere that made it easy to feel at home during our stay. The pool area was wonderful for families. There was a great swimming pool, a kiddie pool for the little ones, and a spacious hot tub where everyone could relax and enjoy time together. It was a perfect place for children and adults alike to make memories. The breakfast buffet was delicious! Everything was fresh, hot, and prepared perfectly. It was a wonderful way to start each day. Some vacations are enjoyable, but this one became a treasured family memory that I will carry with me forever. Thank you, Granlibakken Resort, for helping make my birthday and retirement celebration so unforgettable. I absolutely loved my stay and would highly recommend Granlibakken Resort to anyone looking for a beautiful Tahoe getaway, a family vacation, or a special place to celebrate life's important moments. I can't wait to return!

LONG REVIEW SO SORRY TL:DR Terrible service during power loss, do not recommend, cross-posted to…read moreGoogle Reviews. The hotel is undeniably beautiful, the room I stayed in was wonderful, and the complimentary breakfast was delicious and convenient. However, the poor handling of a power outage really outweighed all of that for me. Let me be clear - I do not blame Granlibakken for losing power, things happen and they clearly can't control fires that take out power lines. But! Their handling of that loss of power was really - and I say this with so much patience - pathetic. We were out of power from about 6pm to about 2am. No one ever reached out to communicate about the issue. I called the front desk after almost half an hour of no power and they answered the phone with "If you're calling about the loss of power, we know, there's nothing we can do." Cool dude, maybe let your guests know then? I did do some crocheting by phone light and that was pretty fun! But stopped to preserve my battery for emergencies. When the sun started to set with still no power, I called again and asked if they had flashlights or lanterns they could loan out - the response was that they did have flashlights but had run out of batteries. Really? I was so polite on the phone with the front desk, making sure they knew I wasn't upset with them but was about to be in the pitch dark in a first floor room leading out into a main walkway of the hotel and would really like some kind of light source. The front desk said they'd call me back if/when they found some batteries - they never called me back. I would have appreciated even a call to say they couldn't find anything to provide! Lights all came back on at about 2am and I checked out as scheduled that morning very poorly rested. Pretty nerve wracking to be a solo female traveler in those conditions and no confidence in the staff to keep me safe or even care if anything happened to me. No acknowledgement of anything as I checked out and left, or even an email afterwards, btw. Like I said at the top, pretty pathetic showing here. Sidebar: there was a full-on wedding reception going on through all of this. I could see the terrace from my lil porch, and oh boy people kept just trickling in and they looked amazing! Dressed to the nines and clearly ready to party. They ended early at like 9pm because of the lack of power - I felt so bad for them as they all started leaving. Sister of the bride was incredible to still give a speech despite it all - very heartfelt and I could hear her voice so clearly from my room - you go girl! A girl couldn't wish for a better sister, congrats to the bride and groom!
