A nice alternative from the busy Broad Ripple strip and a popular place for regulars/locals so it can feel a bit exclusive sometimes. Ronald is fun and has always given great service. I also like that it's dog friendly. It certainly can use some updates but I think that's part of the charm. What a unique dining experience. After visiting the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown on our way through Indy, we decided to hit the entire Hoosiers experience and visit Plump's Last Shot, named after former Butler star and high school phenom Bobby Plump of whom his 1954 Milan High School team was the source for the fictional Hickory Huskers for the film Hoosiers. As we sat down, we were greeted by our "waitress" who in her drunken stupor repeated herself attempting to explain that she wasn't a waitress, but just a regular patron who was helping out. The barfly did take our drink orders correctly. We then placed our orders through her and she then came back and stated she had a surprise for us..... Behind the pillar of the actual bar where everyone was, out came the man himself Bobby Plump! Mr. Plump sat down with us for at least 25 minutes and told us about his entire basketball career from Milan High School, Butler University, and then to the National Industrial Professional League. It was cool hearing about the true story of Hoosiers from the man who inspired the movie himself! Out came our food and the tenderloin sandwich was fantastic! Unfortunately, our bar fly *waitress" who had recommended the sweet potato fries went ahead and ordered us the sweet potato fries even though we all ordered regular fries. Let me start this by telling you I knew what I was getting in to. I wanted a place that had a super dog friendly patio, great service, local drink specials, and decent food...in that order. That is exactly what you get at Plumps. My wife, my giant dog, and I arrived around 7pm on a nice spring night in April. We were quickly seated on the patio, which ended up having 6 dogs total at one point during our visit. We grabbed one of the communal dog bowls for our pup and ordered drink (Oberon!) and an appetizer (Hummus). The hummus was quite interesting and was clearly homemade with whole chunks of chickpeas. The menu claimed to have a tenderloin that was voted as Indy's best, so that was the clear choice for me. My wife went with the build your own 3 cheese sandwich. The clear standouts were my tenderloin and her onion rings. The tenderloin is thick and meaty and the onion rings were well seasoned and very fresh. Service was attentive without being overbearing or rushed. If you are seeking a place to enjoy a patio on a warm summer night, with you best K9 friend, this is it. It's kind of sad that it's unlikely anyone will ever enter into the Indiana pantheon of high school basketball again (for a variety of reasons). This is a pretty swell Broadripple bar. It has nice outdoor seating and a all the Indiana bar classics. I came here for the Hoosier Pork Tenderloin and I must say it was pretty solid. The meat was particularly good. I was a little disappointed by the crust, which was kind of in clumps in places and sometimes hard to chew through. There are bars that happen to serve food and then there are restaurants that happen to serve alcohol. Plump's is the former of the two. You can tell that the lion's share of their revenue is not from the menu, but truly it should be. It's easy to say that, as bar food goes, the food is good here. But that's unfair. The food is just good with no needed explanation. We ordered a barbecue cheeseburger and the giant pork tenderloin. The burger was cooked as asked. It was fresh, juicy, and delicious. The tenderloin was nothing short of perfect. It is exactly what is a Hoosier thinks about when they hear the word tenderloin. It was fresh, never frozen and the crunch was perfect. Plump's is a great stop on the north side of the canal in Broad Ripple. Patio is usually busy, but they've got a ton of seating so you should be able to get a spot. We brought out dogs the other night and they were loving it. Everyone was friendly and saying hello. We've come here a few times for drinks, once to eat. Man, I'm getting old. I remember crawling around Broad Ripple bars and ending up at Plump's to wind down. Now we go because it's quiet, cheap, and great to chat with friends on the patio. Off the strip, this bar has always been the spot to simply chill with a few cocktails and some pub food. It's divey, but that's why we like it! The redneck charm reminds us of home in rural Indiana where there's only one bar in town. I took my little sister here for her 21st birthday and got her just as wasted as any bar on the strip. Heck, probably moreso because of how cheap the drinks are here. This is a towny bar, plain and simple. The common man's haven. I'll summarize first, if you're in a hurry: Probably the city's best breaded pork tenderloin. Most of my friends are in agreement about this. One tenderloin is enough for 2 people to be stuffed, and they'll cheerfully split it for you. If you want to kill several hours on a great deck with your dog and are a rather patient person, this will be great for you. If you are extremely hungry and want something to eat right away or hate dogs, steer clear of Plumps. How about some signage? You know, something along the lines of, "The kitchen closes at 9. There is no actual service at the ground-level tables...go inside and order at the bar." That would be extremely helpful. I seriously love this patio, and the food's not bad...but the service is always kinda crappy. Once the lone server (who had worked there for 7 hours) realized we were waiting, she hustled over, took our order, was really friendly, and everything was correct. But we were there about 30 minutes before this happened! Sometimes (at least on Sunday afternoons) there's live bluegrass on the patio. If you're looking for a healthier option, I recommend the grilled tenderloin. It comes with cheese, and I put honey mustard on mine. The fries are thick-sliced steak fries. They no longer have clam strips (which aren't easily found in Indiana), these have been replaced with crab balls. I'm kinda scared. My friends raved about their quesadilla, burger, and fish & chips. There's a "dog cart" with pitchers of water and dog bowls and even dog biscuits. This is probably the city's most dog-friendly patio. read more

If you have a favorite spot in Broad Ripple, by all means. If you think the 'drag' IS a drag most of the time, give Plump's a shot (rimshot...hello, this thing on?) Overall, this is about a 2.5 star place (but Yelp likes integers apparently). While there was nothing particularly bad about the place, it doesn't try very hard to stand out. They get the full third star for being a local pub still making it in Broad Ripple's chain-driven, commercial urban gentrification. Since my beer glass is usually (at least) half full, we'll focus on the pluses: Great patio, with wrought iron furniture (as opposed to the plastic Wal-Mart shit some places stick you in). The place is north of the 'top 40' scene, and there's something almost serene about it. Maybe it's the proximity to Rusted Moon? Our server was pretty awesome, so that helped. The food was decent -- nothing to write home about; the beer selection is OK in terms of quality beer; but they fail pretty hard on the selection. The prices seem pretty reasonable, which makes it easier to handle. All in all, there are certainly worse places you could hang out in Broad Ripple -- but -- put simply, one can do better. read more

It is the favorite spot of someone close to me, but the bartender the night I was there was extremely homophobic and made a totally inappropriate and rude comment toward someone I was with. It was totally not acceptable, and had I known at the time, I would have had words with the person. It is never OK to be judgmental and rude. And I hope this person no longer works here, as this one incident completely turned me off of the whole establishment. Best bar in the Broad Ripple area. Age doesn't matter, the drinks are super strong (ask for a double) for the price, the atmosphere/staff/patrons are completely chill. Depending on what you order, the food can range from dead average to fantastic (try the tenderloin). In the summer, the deck is the place to be, but don't ignore Plumps in the winter. The inside bar is completely relaxed & everyone is just wanting to have a good time. It's my opinion that the people that hang out at Plumps know how to handle their alcohol, which is not the case for many other places in Broad Ripple. read more

This is one of those restaurants that I think is great for a chilled Sunday afternoon on a nice Spring/Summer day. They have a nice little dog friendly patio. It's a little cramped, but it's nice nevertheless. The day that I was there, they were filming and shooting a little interview for the anniversary of Hoosiers basketball movie filming. I'm not very knowledgable on the subject, so I'm not going to pretend that I can tell you what they were doing exactly. However, the extremely severe flaw is the service. Oh my goodness, let me tell you about it. So, it was a really nice Sunday, I went with my three friends, because we had intentions of having a fun drinking and gardening day. So, my friend suggested to come to this place because her and her boyfriend come here for their dates, so we said ok. My first impressions that was it seemed like a cute little place, so I thought it was going to be one of those places that would knock me off my feet. But things just got a little weird with how spacey and out there our waitress seemed. Her head was not in the game in the least little bit. She kept overshooting with how many beers we ordered, which doesn't sound like a terrible thing, but it becomes terrible when you are the ones responsible for paying for it. So naturally, that will just make your tab ridiculous when you didn't even ask for it. The menu was fairly underwhelming. It was just a piece of computer paper printed with a very limited amount of food on it. However, I was going to get a burger anyway, so I wasn't like kicking or screaming, but I think it could presented way better at least. So the spacey waitress cam back and took our food orders and we were noticing it was taking a longer time, but we didn't mind, because it was a nice day. However, it was severely frustrating when she came back out and asked what we order about 15 minutes after the fact. Then comes out 15 minutes later with 3 of the 4 burgers, mixed everything up between the other three and was like "is there anything else I can do for you?" I just looked at her and said, where is my burger? Then she was like "oh I'm so sorry" and then made some ridiculous excuses to why it wasn't put in or even made. So consequently I had to eat when everyone else was finished with their meals. Granted, they decided to not charge me for it which was nice and it was a pretty good burger. Then when you think it would end there and all is forgiven and forgotten, she continues to give us all the wrong checks with everything completely mixed up on them. She took three chances to fix it and in the end they were still wrong, but we were just ready to go by this point. It would've been different if she were a new waitress, but we got the impression that she wasn't so it was a little strange. In fact, my friend said that they went there again and had her for a second time as a waitress and similar events happened again. I like to give second chances so I will probably return here to see if it gets any better since it is a nice little location and spotted in a very beautiful site of Broad Ripple, but I just hope the lollygagging and confusion will not be present when I'm there. read more

I feel pretty bad about this, as we used love going to Plumps Last Shot! However, the last couple times we've gone, I've noticed a drastic decline in the quality of the service as well as the food. Last time we went, my 6 year old got bloody wings which were obviously cooked from frozen, dropped right into the fryer (which causes the marrow to seep out of the bones). He wouldn't eat them, so we sent them back but were still charged for them. Bummer. read more

Plump's is one of the last places in left in Broad Ripple I hadn't tried, so when I was looking for a place to grab some grub with my main man we gave it a try. It was 7ish on a hot Friday night, and Plump's was the only place with patio seating without a wait. There was an awkward moment when we asked the host for a seat. You could tell he and one of the waitresses were having an argument, and we walked in in the middle of it. However, we were shown to a table and served promptly. The waitress was pretty nice- she didn't seemed bummed we only ordered drink and an appetizer like waitresses sometimes can when they think they won't get a good tip. My drink was always refilled, and she came by several times to check on us. I don't have a dog, but if I did I'd love to come here and relax on their big deck. They have water bowls and doggie treats for your pup to enjoy while you enjoy a drink of your own. read more

Tiny, not good for large groups. Tucked away a pretty inconvenient walking distance from the main strip. The bartenders were very rude, rolled their eyes at every order kind of rude. They don't seem to be able to handle a large crowd. Had a bad experience here last night that made me feel uncomfortable and felt racially charged. They insist you have to wear a mask when you walk in, and when you order drinks at the bar, which is reasonable. Of course, as soon as you have a drink, you are then able to take your mask off. Stupid but whatever it's Like most bars. So my mixed friend and I are the only people of color, we order a drink and go to drink it in the large area with many other people, who are white and also are drinking their drinks with no masks. One of the bartender shouts from behind the counter to my friend and I that we have to leave unless we put masks on. no one else in there is wearing a mask and we are drinking the drinks we just bought and no one is socially distancing because the bar is so tiny. I tell the guy "we literally just bought drinks?" And he then goes on to say to us "you have be drinking and you have to be sitting down, or leave". I look around and there's no seats. Never have I heard this new made up rule that we have to be sitting ha. He basically just wanted us to leave, and was targeting us specifically because all of the other people there were white, some not sitting, and non wearing masks. Never going back here read more

I can't believe it took me a year to finally go here. The reason behind the 4-star rating is simple, the little things. I love the bike parking lot in front of the restaurant! It can be hard at time to find an appropriate place to park a bik around Brip. This place is also dog friendly, they have a "doggie buffet" with various treats and water bowls on the front porch for your pooch. I have yet to venture to Plump's during a night out in Broad Ripple, but the food I had on my first visit is enough for me to call this place awesome! I was shocked to see crab cakes as an appetizer, so I had to order. I love crab cakes and Plump's are some of the best I have enjoyed. I had a blacken grouper sandwich as a main course. It was amazing! The spices really made the sandwich enjoyable. Plus the filet itself was quite large. My friend had the pork tenderloin..... the tenderloin itself was twice the size of the bun. Enough said, the food is great! The only thing preventing a 5-star rating is they open at 4pm.... I have been attempting to be stingy with my 5-star ratings. So my salad was poured out of a ready mixed salad bag, the fish just a frozen filet, the tenderloin was refried a little too much and very dry, and the margarita was ok. We never come here for the food/drinks or quality. We come because they allow dogs on their patio. Luckily our waitress was sweet and gave good and attentive service or we would have walked out like the table next to us. We come for the fact that our dog can join us and they bring water bowls. Today though, a man came over to all the table with dogs to give them treats and skipped right over our table we felt very upset that the old man coming around totally skipped our baby girl and the whole reason we even come to this establishment. I always have the vague sensation that I'm being mocked when I'm at Plump's. I'm not paranoid; I think there is a bit of a holier-than-thou attitude among the servers here. Once while I was hanging out with a former coworker, he went to the bathroom and the bartender asked me with a smirk if we were on a first date. He said it in such a way that made me think there was some kind of a bet going on down the bar. (I guess this was funny because there was an obvious age difference between my friend and I...?) Still, I would've gone easy on Plump's because of its location and expansive deck, but a recent visit for a pre-prandial beverage finally completely turned me off. The bartender this time looked at me blankly when I tried to order some bourbon drinks that were listed on cards on the table. They do give their cocktails a generous pour, but you get plastic cups on the weekends apparently. I don't know, I guess maybe that's a practical decision for some businesses, but there's something just really tacky about drinking out of plastic cups inside a bar. Finally, as a design choice, I'm not feeling the basketball memorabilia, which is looking a little worn around the edges at this point. The story of Plump's game-winning shot and the last ascension of a small school to a statewide title is neat, but would I build a business around it? No. read more

Plump's Last Shot appears to be that cute old neighborhood restaurant. It was dead the Friday evening my friend and I hopped in for a quick dinner. Literally, no one in restaurant, and we didn't hear/see an employee. Thankfully someone came from downstairs and let us sit where we wanted, got us a menu and returned with our drinks all within a few minutes. I'd read the reviews before and heard from friends that the tenderloin was a MUST. So we each got a tenderloin and sweet fries [meh] and onion rings [amaaaazing]. We probably could've split the tenderloin but both of us were equally hungry and practically inhaled our own. I really enjoy the atmosphere at Plump's! Every time I've gone there I have sat out on their deck which may actually be bigger than the seating area inside. It's spacious and comfortable for man and beast alike. That's right, beast. People are welcome to bring their dogs to stay out on the deck and hang out with them. They even set water out for them so you don't have to drink alone if it's just you and your dog. Another benefit for me (maybe not so much for Plump) is they never seem to be too packed. The menu is your standard bar food menu. They've got a couple burgers, a fish sandwich, chicken tenders, etc. I had the fish sandwich. I give the sandwich about a 3 out of 5. The tartar sauce was a little too sweet for my taste. I usually go on Monday nights pretty late and run to the bar for my own drinks, but the time I went early and ate the server was really good though. She was busy but seemed to have a pretty good system and a strong memory. read more
