I've heard all the stories, and seen the movie. I avoided this place for many years...mostly so I could say I was one of the final people to be able to say I'd never been to Plump's. I finally visited here on my last day of a job with a group of very drunk friends. For some reason, even though it was MY last day of work, I WAS THE ONLY SOBER ONE. So, that being said, my memories of Plump's are mostly of bad decisions and a few fights and something about threats and lost friendships all on the deck in the early-morning hours of a Saturday. I know that doesn't tell you much, but there's not much to tell. It's a bar. It has some memorabilia. It still has dirty bathrooms, drunk people stumbling all over, and ... that's about it. Can I just say one of THE BEST pet-friendly patios in Broad Ripple!!?? I have been going here for a couple of years and love going in the months that one can enjoy the patio. If you have a furry friend, you will be totally welcomed here. I think the staff is extremely friendly and the food is good. They have a great breaded tenderloin. Service at the bar inside can be a little slow at times (no one there at times and a wait until they return), but regardless, once they are there, the service is great. Super cheerful patio place in the B Rip and perfect for a Sunday Funday! Sidebar: They have a doggie burger patty. It may not be on the menu, but if you ask for it, they have it. Great location for a quick bite to eat and a drink right off the Monon in the heart of Broad Ripple. I went one night, kind of late, with my roommate. The kitchen had already closed (unbeknownst to us) but the staff was so friendly they made us a few salads and some stuff on the fryer anyhow. And it was all delicious. Plump's, as it's referred to by its regulars (and there are definitely some regulars at this bar), was named after Bobby Plump, a name not likely recognized outside of Indiana. Around here, Plump is a local legend for hitting the final shot of the 1954 Indiana High School Basketball State Championship game, sending the tiny school from Milan, Indiana to a state title. This shot and game went down in history, as Milan was the last small school to win the state title before Indiana High School Basketball switched to a class system (where schools of similar size play each other to make the playing field more equitable). In addition to his local status, this shot was immortalized in the movie 'Hoosiers,' giving Mr. Plump's bar national attention from ESPN at one point. Plump's is one of the busiest bars in Broad Ripple during the summer months because of its outdoor patio. With dogs allowed on the deck, great drinks and a menu of bar food and sandwiches, Broad Ripplers flock to Plump's to sit on the deck and drink beer in the sun, especially the first few times the weather warms up in the spring. The food is very average; I personally prefer not to eat there. However, this is by far one of the best places to just get smashed, especially at night. Definitely not the classiest place, and perhaps tending to attract a crowd that is a little rough around the edges, it's not a place you would go to find a hookup or take a date. It's more of a 'hey boys, let's go drink em down tonight' type of spot. Bobby Plump has scored another game winner with this restaurant. This establishment has a nice deck and patio that provides great views of the Monon Trail. In addition to the views and the entertainment resulting from "people watching", the customer base is one of the most diverse clientele in town. It's not uncommon to see business men/women dressed in suits, athletes in their workout clothing after jogging on the Monon Trail, and dogs wearing everything from their own fur to scarfs that match their owners clothing, relaxing on the well accomidating deck. This location is one of the few restaurants in town where customers are encouraged to bring their dogs to lunch or dinner with them. Dogs are not allowed inside the actual restaurant, however they allowed to sit at the tables located on the deck and patio with their owners, which is where the majority of the customer choose to sit. All in all, Plumps Last Shot, is definitely a place I recommend if you're a enjoy dogs and enjoying a drink or food outdoors. read more

I came here with my furry best friend on a sunny afternoon. The food options were mediocre at best. Not many options at all if you have a food allergy and can't consume fried foods... No gluten free beer. (This is probably my biggest complaint). Also, it was a bit expensive for an empty grimy sports bar with a patio. Not sure I would go back. There are other patios in Broad Ripple that allow dogs (I'm looking at you, Monon Food Company). :) read more

Plump's is that place you hit up with friends on a weekend afternoon in the summer for an afternoon drink on a decent patio and that's about all. They have great drink specials typically, which keeps us coming back. This last trip, it was adult Arnold Palmers. The food is okay. Mostly fried and light in selection. The tenderloin sandwich is the one standout on the menu. It is huge and well seasoned. Not much in the way of small plates or appetizers to go with their bar selection. Service is where Plump's really starts to fall down. The service is painfully slow. You can easily sit with an empty glass for 10-20 minutes on the patio. It's often easier to just walk inside and order at the bar and bring it out yourself. Had a server tell us one time in conversation that she "gets so upset with people. If you want fast, this just isn't your place." While I'm sure we'll go back for the patio, it probably won't be as often as if the service were better and faster. read more

Wonderful food. Perfect atmosphere on the patio. We really enjoyed it. The people were friendly, and we just had a wonderful time.

Other than the fact that we were neglected, and no one told us that we need to order it from the bar and that the kitchen closes at 9pm, everything else was good. The Angus burger I had was huge and juicy, served with steak fries and my bf was happy with his fish and chips (steak fries) too. I would have given it a 4 star rating but the service that kept us waiting when we're starving and drooling over the onion rings on the table next to us. It was way too torturous. read more

Well. There I was walking along on an afternoon in Broad Ripple and there it stood, Plump's Last Shot. Dive bars are the best bars, and Plump's sure seemed like it. Sadly, I don't think it is one. It's named after the last shot in the big game of the most famous Indiana movie, 'Hoosiers'. As a die-hard Boilermaker, that made me hurl a bit. But I won't hold it against them too much. It's a fun name. Now, I did go there on a weekday at around 1:30pm. So my fellow boozers weren't out in force quite yet. Maybe I should've waited about half an hour, haha. On to it then, the food is pretty tasty, yet standard. The little crab cake things are pretty fun. More adventure than food though, in that they're small and round, unlike any crab cake I've ever had. The beer specials weren't too bad, even though I went for something else (Red Stripe, 22oz cans. Hehe, I like the adult size beers). We did eat outside, but as I went to the head to relieve thyself, I couldn't help but notice that the bar was obviously an old house that had been turned into a bar. It's a really cool kind of vibe. Nice and intimate, yet not romantic, so I feel like I could get properly pissed if the mood strikes. Service was as good as one could expect. The waiter was courteous and attentive. I'd like to say he was the owner, but I can't be sure. Anyhow, he did a fine job. Overall it's a pretty decent place. A bit out of my way (I'm a Southsider), and it doesn't do too much to stand out. Well....yeah, there's memorabilia, and indeed, the story is true. Sure, there's a deck, and that's always a plus. But... ...the food is average at best. C'mon, it's friggin' bar food! Now, that's fine if that's all you're looking for, but let's not get carried away. It's a great place to meet someone who's been working outside all day for a beer. Want a real meal? Not so much. Maybe I'm just jaded since I live in a place with way better food on every corner and way more atmosphere on, well, every corner. But even when I was still living in Indy I felt the same about this place. Unless you're a Milan High School graduate or have an unnatural attachment to Hoosiers, there's no real reason to make a pilgrammage here. It's not bad...there's just nothing special. read more

A great place to spend a beautiful afternoon in Broad Ripple. The porch is the perfect hangout for man(woman) and his(her) best friend. The service is so great that even your pup will be offered water and a treat! Only a few beers on tap, but a decent bottle selection. For whatever reason, I'm always compelled to drink cans of PBR here (for those of you who know me, I'm not a PBR kind of guy). Food is above average for bar food. This old house-turned bar is floor-to-ceiling memorabilia from Hoosiers--the movie based on Bobby Plump's story. It's not your typical bar---and by my standards, that's a good thing. Often times, people can be seen playing music and hoola hooping in the front yard of this free spirited dive. Bring your pooch - four legged friends are welcome. Complimentary water bowls outside and a close proximity to the Monon Trail make this a great place to relax with your pup after a nice walk through Broad Ripple. Love Plumps outdoor front porch concept. I could spend a whole day out front sipping on adult beverages with friends in the shade. Good thing they don't have hammocks, I might never leave. Love that they're dog friendly. It's great to see real dogs work the bar with their sniffing game. No cheesie one liners just let me sniff your rear. If sit near the entrance you might get licked or the chance of petting some awesome dogs. I would give it 4 stars, but the food is just another run of the mill bar food from what I got. Of course I wasn't looking for food that day just ambiance. Would definetly go back and waste another Saturday on the front porch sipping adult beverages. read more

Count me in as another one who's not a huge fan of Plump's. When I came here, it was *extremely* crowded, kinda dirty, and really, really loud. The drinks didn't seem like anything special. I'll second the idea that it's more of a "let's get wasted, man!" bar than anything, which I'm feeling a bit old for these days. If you're looking for average beer, good wings and a place to hang out with your dog, then this is it. My husband had the Korean wings and said they were delicious. If you're vegetarian, there is pretty much nothing for you except a bowl of lettuce. The atmosphere on the patio was really chill and it was nice being outside but the food selection is abysmal. I didn't even see most of the items that are listed on their online menu. Our server was a little ditzy but very friendly and chatty and everything was served relatively quickly. read more

Best place to go on a lazy Sunday afternoon. They allow dogs and the patio is all open seating. Good prices on beer and food. They serve tots which gets big brownie points from me! My bestie and I had fish and chips and chicken fingers and shared with eachother. Very good food, simple, and reasonably priced. Most of the patio is shaded so it stays nice and cool and they have water bowls for dogs that they refresh. A plus in my book. When the weather warms up and spring sets in, this deck is the first place I turn for an outdoor drink and a nice bit of pub fare. The staff are nice, casual people. It's hard to dislike a place where an older woman tends bar and calls me "hon." It makes me feel like my aunt is serving me beer! read more

I ate here the other night with 3 other friends. The service was the worst I've honestly ever had in a long time. We were there 90 minutes and all we had ordered was a few drinks and appetizers. The server didn't bring our drink order for a long time and never refilled them once. I had to finally get up to find him and he STILL "forgot" to get us more water. Our food took 45 minutes to deliver and was mediocre at best. We most walked out it was all so terrible. The restaurant wasn't even busy so no reason for it to be so slow. Plumps is one of those places that you can wind-down a warm summer day on the deck, beer in hand, watching people stroll by on the Monon Trail. It's a great location, a nice canopy of trees gives the deck a bit of shade. The prices are reasonable with the usual $3 tall-boys with some good local stuff on tap. I have not tried their food, just their chips and salsa as a snack. Plenty of bike parking out front, doggy friendly, my kind of place. read more

This restaurant is right on the monon. It's fun because people can bring their dogs and drink and eat outside. The first table the waitress put us at was right by the speakers by the wall and the chair was broken. We asked to move. We split a tenderloin (which was MASSIVE and DELICIOUS!) I ordered a drink that almost never came. I thought it was nice that she gave us the drink for free because of that. We had to wave her down to get our check. This is a nice little bar restaurant, but has a small menu and the service isn't great. read more

Plumps was... well... a good place to have a beer on a Friday evening. It wasn't anything amazing. The beer selection was good, service was good, the food was good (I had a grilled cheese sandwich with some fries, and it was good, but nothing worth writing home about). Everything was just good. Nothing awesome, but what I really enjoyed was that there was nothing that I disliked. The place was nice enough, the chairs were comfortable, and the porch made me wish it was still summer!
