They did a fine job replacing my water heater at a reasonable price, but I later had a toilet problem and it took a week for a callback.

I've only ever called one plumber in Richmond to come back for repeat business, and that call was…read moremade tonight to Harry, that really should be just about enough of a review. But in case you want more details, I've had bad luck with plumbers. I get overcharged and jerked around... I called Harry because, well, he had one review on Yelp, and it wasn't a bad one and he isn't somebody I had called before. I don't think I was the nicest guy to him on the phone (not outright rude) but I did tell him I didn't really trust plumbers in the area based on my previous experiences. He told me his story, and it's basically that he worked for the big companies for years, knew their tactics, didn't like it, and wanted to do his job for an honest price. He went to my house and unclogged my kitchen sink. Guess what, when he called me to tell me how much it cost, it was in line with what he told me when I first called him. He didn't jack the price up on me, he didn't rip me off, he was honest. He fixed the problem, he charged me what he said he would charge, and there were no additional fees. Tonight I called him about another issue. Like I said, he's the first plumber that's gotten my repeat business and he will continue to get my business as long as I still own my house in Richmond, which I hope not to for much longer, and am planning on putting it on the market this spring, if anybody is interested... just kidding, sort of... no, not really, I am not kidding, I'm ready to sell it. I can't be a long distance landlord anymore. But enough about me, if you need a good plumber, call Harry, seriously.

Set an appointment for Saturday 06/06/2026 for a tune up but was cancelled due to overbooked and…read morerescheduled for Monday 06/08/2026. received a text stating they are overbooked again and want to rescheduled for next week - Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.. That's BS... it's been hot lately and they can't even accommodate... Terrible !!! so disappointed.. Rather pay a higher price and the other company coming tomorrow to get it fix.... I will not recommend anyone to Harris. They can't even keep their promise....

Drain Works - See the drain? Me either. This is where it's supposed to empty out. It's completely buried in soil. This will not work properly.

Can I rate negative stars? I asked Bryan to work on putting in a drainage system for me. I've had…read moredrainage put into 4 other backyards in the past, and they have always used shovels or ditch witch to minimize damage to the yard (at most 6-12" across). Bryan, without first discussing with me, used an excavator and completely destroyed my lawn - tore up an area measuring 10 feet by 50 feet where there once was grass, and now there is not (photos 1 and 2). Since it wasn't in the contract that he wouldn't destroy my lawn, he says he completed the job with excellence. Further, the end of the pipe where it's supposed to empty out (third photo) is completely buried in soil so this will not actually drain properly. Finally, I politely expressed dismay at the damage and asked to discuss it in person. He proceeded to send a barrage of insulting and nasty texts. Buyers beware.

UPDATE: Cassandra of Drain Works reached out and apologized for Bryan dropping the ball and asked…read morewhat they could do to make it right. Separately Bryan extended the services of Drain Works for any future plumbing needs. I'm glad I kept the lines of communication open because I have since called on Bryan to help after I used another plumber who did disappointing work and left a mess, both figuratively and literally. Bryan went above and beyond to make sure the work was done well. Even though he worked late into the evening and even though it was a Saturday Bryan returned first thing the following morning to finish up. Cassandra kept me in the loop regarding his ETA. Once again Bryan did an outstanding job. He is conscientious, diligent and passionate about his chosen trade. On top of that his cleanup is great. I'm glad I decided to give them another try. It turns out Drain Works has been in business less than 2 years, so they're a young company that is putting things in place to make sure their clients don't drop through the cracks again. As with anything in life, stuff happens. It's not so much what happens, but how people/businesses respond to them. My decision to give Drain Works another chance is because of how they handled what had happened. That Bryan does great work at a reasonable rate so good value also helps. I look forward to working with Drain Works on my list of plumbing maintenance and improvements. ORIGINAL REVIEW: BE WARY OF HIRING DRAINWORKS LLC/BRYAN MARTIN. I first used Drainworks at the end of March and Bryan did a great job. I have since had TWO no-shows from Bryan even after he messaged saying he would be here. I had waited on Bryan because he said he was sick, so no worries. I let him know I was waiting on him before I could move to the next step but he was sick so I completely understood the delay; I would postpone the other tradesman until Bryan was able work on the plumbing modifications. After he was back up and running Bryan offered to come on Monday 4/22. I said it was OK to come later in the week if he needed to ease back into work and catch up on other jobs; I could wait a few more days. Bryan said he would come Tuesday 4/23. Because I hadn't heard back and was concerned that he was still sick, I messaged on Thursday 4/25 to check in. He said he was feeling much better and was back to appointments that very day. Great news! He would come on Monday 4/29. He messaged late Monday saying he would come the next day. Tuesday he messaged to apologize he had an emergency and had to fix flooding at a client's and couldn't make it. He messaged on Wednesday and let me know he would come around 3 PM. At 4:30 he messaged to say he was 20 minutes out, then NOTHING. I messaged him a couple of hours later asking since he wasn't coming would he be here the following day or the day after that on Friday, May 3 but I didn't get a response. OK, it was late in the day so no worries. I heard from him the following day, Thursday, saying he would be here Friday at 10 am. Then Friday came and went. NOTHING all day. NOT COOL DUDE. On top of that I have had another contractor on hold. I've also seen on Nextdoor.com where other people have shared similar experiences. I could have done so many other things--including help a friend get her car that had broken down to the mechanic's--had he let me know he wasn't coming. I'm now behind on the project and have to find another plumber. NOT COOL DUDE.
