After being let down by a line up of sandwich places that were closed after 3pm on a Sunday, we wound up heading over to Poe's after hearing many a good thing about it. Tucked to the side of Human Robot, a low-key, high vibe spot for a cold brew and good chat with a imbibed local, Poe's offers a nice variety of seemingly tantalizing creations that leave your taste buds bracing to bite down on the first bite. Between the chicken cutlet, pork and chopped steak options ( beef or chicken,) there are plenty of inventive names and toppings that sound enticing. But unfortunately, what we were presented with fell short. I was craving something that that was salty and acidic but also meaty and vegetal and so I opted for the "Gabbygool." This came with a thinly fried chx cutlet, fresh mozz, spicy capicola, roasted red bell pepp's, fresh spinach, basil pesto, balsamic glaze and a hefty sprinkle of red pepper flakes. This was just O.K. The seeded Sarcones loaf it came on felt like it was a day old and the chicken cutlet was fried well past doneness. The other ingredients meshed well, but all in all, it was a "meh" and definitely not worth the price when there are places in the area that make salivation-worthy sandos at similar price-points. The other option we ordered was the "Weedman" which came with pulled pork, sliced long hots, pickled carrots, sliced cucumbers, cilantro and a schmear of sriracha mayo. This was better than the former, with the fatty pork helping to add some moisture to the well-aged bread. The toppings, however, felt like after thoughts and the rawness of the heavy handed carrots and too thick cucumbers made this another "meh." Though we ate, we weren't satisfied and so despite the good reviews and chill vibes, I probably won't ever be visiting Poe's joint again unless some shifts happen with the quality and preparation of the goods. All in all, Poe's is a good spot to drop into if you're in the neighborhood, other sandwich joints in the area are closed and you're looking to catch a game or throw back a few cold ones but don't expect your mind to be blown. read more

Wanted to try this place out because I wanted a sandwich and saw good reviews. Place an order online I tried calling the place but it kept going straight to voicemail because I have a sever allergy to sesame seeds to see if they have non seeded rolls. I put in modifications stating that I am highly allergic and requested that they call me if they can't substitute the roll, I'll just cancel the order. I also put no roasted red peppers and they still put those on there as well. They didn't do any of that. I get my food and it's a seeded roll. I can't even contact them to tell them that. Someone else had this place saved on their to do list so we decided to check it out! As others have mentioned, it's inside Human Robot, and there is a sandwich board sign outside to make help guide you to the right place. It was a Monday night and pretty quiet inside. A random perk was a guy (not affiliated with the restaurant or bar) was giving out free vegan cookies lol I ordered the Sal sandwich with cheese fries. Overall I thought the sandwich was decent and a nice portion size. Poe's has been my absolute favorite place to eat in the city, and #1 recommendation to friends whom are visiting out of town for years now. I always try my best when I'm in the city to grab a sandwich to go on my way home for the next day. Their sandwiches are legend, the staff is amazing, and the overall ambience is legit. As someone who doesn't have kids, I actually like that this place put their foot down and decided to not allow kids after 2pm. I've had just about every sandwich on the menu at this point, but my favorites will always be the Sal Bonpensiero (RIP BIG P), the Baby Wook, the Gabbygool and the Seoulgirl. I was at a friend's place and we were getting kinda hungry. We looked this place up and we were not disappointed. We ordered the food to go and swung by the bar to pick it up, while we didn't stay long we did like the ambiance and the people were so nice to my friend and her dog. I'll say she's definitely gonna be coming by fairly often. We picked the food up and honestly I couldn't wait to dig in, it's been a while since I had a great chicken cutlet sandwich. And the food did not disappoint. I ordered the Sal Bonpensiero, partly for the name, but mostly because I looked awesome in the menu pics. Rich set of flavors in it, none too overwhelming. Amount of balsamic was just right. Mozzarella and peppers a solid combo, and the prosciutto helping out too. The cutlet itself was a little dry but I chalk that up to ordering food at 9:30pm at night. Great filling sandwich I would highly reccomend. The cheese fries we got to split came in pretty generous portions, so much so that we had some left over after. Loved how cheesy they were. Pretty heavy on the bacon but I'm not gonna complain about that, and neither did my friend. Overall I really enjoyed the food from here, will definitely come again soon. So the entire time I thought this sandwich place was a part of human robot but quickly found out yesterday that they were separate entities. We met up with my friends for a little picnic on a lazy Sunday afternoon. We were using the outside seating, drinking our beers, playing with my daughter when we realized that it had been over 30 minutes and our sandwiches weren't ready. Regarding my sandwich, I ordered the Hamilton and overall I thought it was good but the house ranch was a bit too much for me, the chives were overwhelming. If I could switch the ranch/chives for balsamic glaze this would be the best sandwich ever, because the chicken cutlet was delicious with tons of bacon and a good amount of fries! I ordered online which was smooth and efficient it was nice I could pay with Apple Pay, the sandwich was $18 dollars total. However I got the broccoli rabe chicken cutlet sandwich, it was all breading barley any chicken so greasy and flat the sandwich was greasy the cheese was not melty and delicious very stingy with the cheese the broccoli rabe was chopped up which was weird the bread was not soft it was sooo disappointing for the price! This was second time at Poe's Sammy Joint. The first time my mom and I came the kitchen was closed (pre-Covid). So we just had a couple beers on tap. I don't remember what we had then it was a couple years ago, I do remember the beer we chose was good. Great beer selection, and off course in my opinion it should be its a brewery. So I call myself the Sandwich Queen, one because I love a good sandwich and two because I make a darn good yummy one. I stopped eating dairy so I was glad that I was able to have to have the Gabbygool sandwich with no cheese. "Gabbygool" Chicken cutlet, homemade fresh mozzarella, hot "gabagool" capicola, roasted red bell peppers and arugula with lemon garlic aioli and balsamic glaze. The Gabbygool was bomb, so so so good. Fresh roll, fresh arugula, nicely pounded out chicken cutlet with a thin and crispy bread coating. The garlic aioli tied everything together, on top of the roasted peppers, balsamic glaze, and I can't forget the show stopper capicola either. I'm totally coming back for this new lover of mine.
