But staff was very cordial to me upon entering facility always. Unfortunately, after my visit , my father developed a bed sore on the side he needed a position change. I was told that wound care was taking care of it in mid January only to find my father being rushed to the hospital on Feb 1st with malnutrition, dehydration, septic shock and upon evaluation at hospital was diagnosed with gangrene in 3 different places a few sores ready to burst and contusions in several places. Hence my father died from gangrene and the bacteria had traveled throughout his bloodstream and taken over all organs leaving my father in pain and to suffer for 8 days until he passed from the flesh eating bacteria. Please if your loved one cannot talk to you and tell you what is going on, please keep them at home safe where they can be monitored with security cameras. As most nursing homes don't have them as I found out .

In 2023 my mother was there because she was dying from pancreatic cancer…read more Two days before she died, she was in her bed groaning and curling her knees up in pain and moaning in pain tossing in pain. Her CNA was down the adjoining hallway, I rushed to him and told him what she was going through. The CNA told me she already had her medication. Meanwhile, her Dr. had left instructions to give her medication immediately should she need it for acute pain. I tried to explain that she was in acute pain and needed it now not hours from now. He did nothing. I literally had to leave my mother in the room by herself because I couldn't handle watching and hearing her in such agony. I was crying at this time and other residents were in the hallway watching all this unfold. Once the CNA finished with that hallway he finally came to my mom's hallway and since my mom's room was the second room down and not too far out of his way, he decided he would go check on her. It was at that time when he gave her the extra medicine that her Dr. said she was supposed to have when her pain was not relieved by what she was already getting. I started yelling at the CNA and the head nurse made me leave the premises. I couldn't go back to see my mom until I was cleared by the head administrator of St. Gabriel's. While I was there with my mom she told me that the nurses were a lot nicer to her when I was there with her. There was one CNA that I actually had removed from working down my mom's hallway. She didn't get fired, just moved sent on to another patient that she could be rough with when changing sheets and bathing and feeding. Most of the CNA's don't respect the families concerns and definitely take advantage of the power they have over the patients.

Overall the care for my Mom was just adequate. She got her medicine in a timely manner every day,…read moreso there's that. I understand that in this day and age it's hard to find people with a good work ethic and that possess integrity. She spent just over a couple of weeks here after getting out of the hospital. What kept her positive were the (too few) nurses and aids who were not just sympathetic but empathetic. Katelyn and Kianna (spelled right?) were two such people and always made Mom feel at ease. The physical therapy staff was overall the best part of her stay. Ruby, Abby and Jaky were always positive and would be firm with and push Mom even when she was being stubborn. In my Moms own words the food was "blah.".

Don't make the same mistake I did, and ignore Yelp reviews, thinking that 2022/2023 is a long time…read moreago, and management/caregivers/issues may not be the same. All of the reviews are spot on. My Mom lived there from Nov 20 to Dec 20, 2024, and it was such a horrific, stressful, expensive experience, that I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. If you want to hear lame excuses, and/or zero response to your issues, take your loved one to this place. The management lacks enough experience to do the right thing, only caring about us paying our bill. It's a shame because the facility is beautiful, the dining times are great, and the activities are plentiful with a very outgoing, enthusiastic activity director. However, the assisted living part was poor at best. My Mom went 3 weeks without a shower, physical therapy (which was very important to us during the sales process), and ate very few meals, and did very few activities. She was stressed because the care she received was so inconsistent and different every day. She could never get a routine going. Her family, myself and my Dad were there often to try to get her adjusted, and yet nobody alerted us of these issues. We had to set up a meeting with the Executive Director, who was also unaware of these issues, and at the end of the day, offered very little assistance or care about our issues. He couldn't work with us, considering my Mom was only physically there 1 month. We ended up paying a total of $15K for one month of care, because of the community fee, and 30 day notice that we had to give. We escalated to Regional Mgmt, who also didn't care enough to call us back after coming to Austin to investigate. Don't send your loved one here for assisted living. Independent living, maybe, but the assisted living is too unorganized and chaotic. There is only 1 person giving out meds and providing the caregiving. During the sales process, they referred to them by different names, so we thought they were separate positions. It's the same person providing all of the care, and it's too much for them, often complaining to my Mom. Also, they rotate this 1 person on a monthly basis, so just when you get adjusted to the new person, it's time to switch. This is very different from all of the other AL places we toured in the area. Lastly, all 3 invoices we received were grossly incorrect - Nov, Dec, Jan, yet the only phone call we ever received was to remind us to pay on time. Our last invoice, included billing us for care and med management, even though she and her medication were already moved out of the building.

My mother in law lives here. When she first moved in we found that things were good, but not as…read moreadvertised with many services promised not delivered in reality. For example the vehicle used to take residents on outings and to doctors was not working and it took about 4 months! to get it working. Staff turnover has been staggering and the reason seems to be twofold: In some cases the pay is too low, but even more important staff we have been friendly with have told us that they are prevented from doing their jobs well and they don't feel good about the service they are delivering. The end result is you are always dealing with new employees who are trying to learn their job and becoming increasingly dismayed by the situation they find themselves working in. For example there have been extended periods when there was no cook working in the kitchen, and overwhelmed servers are trying to figure out how to stand in the gap. Their hearts are admirable, but the results are not good. But the situation becomes extremely dangerous when it comes to medical issues. Because of memory problems we need and pay $300/mo for daily administration of medicine. Over and over we find untaken medications beside my mother in law's chair, despite months of repeated instruction that they MUST watch her take the medicine, not just deliver it. Unless we come in every single day and check on her there is no way to know if she is getting her medicines. Similarly there is supposed to be an on staff doctor. We assigned this doctor to be her primary with Medicare so we depend on this doctor to direct her care. Since mobility is a problem this seemed great. But when she has urgent medical needs there is no access. The doctor only comes to the facility once per week - down from 2x per week when we started. It is possible to schedule an eventual appointment far in the future for very low priority problems anything more serious and she has no medical options except an ambulance ride for $thousands to the ER. Even when she is in extreme pain with obvious medical symptoms the nursing staff seems to have no idea what to do and is bound by the limitations of their training to do nothing. Bottom line, the situation here is dire and dangerous. Don't put anyone you love here.

Unfortunately, PAM was not up for the challenge. The nursing and tech staff were good enough. We enjoyed Cyndi, the Sarahs and Meliza especially. He had speech therapy every day. He had OT a few days and PT even less. So much less that in his discharge paperwork, the PT sign off was left blank. They couldn't even attest as to any level of progress. And PT was the main reason he was there. I inquired with scheduling and they said they were short staffed. I reached out to the CEO who came to his room and said she'd look into it and get back to me. Again, sadly no follow through. The OT intimated that he was difficult to work with and that may have been what PT encountered also - so blaming my husband for PT not coming? Really? I'm not saying my husband is the easiest guy in the world to work with but at least show up. I've already had one occasion to steer others clear of the disappointing results we saw and will continue to do so.
