So I brought my girlfriend here on a whim one day, just to try it out since it's been reopened. The décor inside the place is wonderful. It's country, but it's not trying too hard. It looks like a bunch of southern projects you'd see on Pinterest or something. We came on a Tuesday evening. It was about 60 or 65% to capacity in terms of how many diners were in attendance. Our server was very courteous. She had our drink order promptly, and she kept the refills coming throughout the entire meal. She even gave me two glasses of tea when she realized how fast I was downing them. She was also a great saleswoman. I never thought I would be getting the fried green tomatoes, but I did. And they were delicious. They tasted as if they were hand-breaded, not just poured out of a bag of frozen stuff. Deciding what to eat was a near impossible challenge. They have so many things on the menu, and they all sounded equally awesome. I would have been happy no matter what I ordered, but I decided on the country fried steak combo with the fried chicken and fries and mac 'n' cheese for my sides. My girlfriend got the fried seafood platter, but she got her fish grilled instead. Her platter came with a bunch of delicious things like clam strips, popcorn shrimp, and a crab cake, and other things. She also got two sides, as well. All of this food was so good. It wasn't gourmet, of course, but it was the absolute best bang for my buck that I have eaten in a very long time. This is their very first day open and I was seated right away. I did wait to come until 1:15pm. The decor is country, of course. I was unsure what to expect since they are in a strip mall location vs an independent building. My server Justin N. was very good. He gets extra props for bringing me a refill before my drink was completely out! I got the chicken and dumplings with turnip greens and red beans-n-rice just so I could try a little variety. It was all good. Now the disclaimer is.. This is a chain restaurant so their southern cooking will probably not be like your mamas but it's still good for the price. The biscuits are great! Kids meal portions were a good size for the price and the drink is included which is always a plus. The servers currently back each other up so if you need something any of the servers will assist. From the lack of flavor of their food, I can see why there's always and usually only elderly people eating in this place. I haven't been since it 1st opened and it was decent. But this recent time, I was very disappointed and won't be returning. I got the chicken tenders lunch plate. The tenders were ok but the breading on the outside was so soggy that I could just peel it off. The green beans tasted like plastic and had absolutely no flavor at all and the mashed potatoes taste like instant boxed mashed potatoes with a ton of plastic butter. Not to mention the only thing that was "hot" was the tenders. I told my waitress I was not enjoying my food and did not wanted so she sent the manager over. She, the manger, asked me why I didn't like my food so I told her. And she proceeds to tell me that their green beans are cooked wit ham hocks or neck bones, something of that nature which is irrelevant if I said I did not like your food, I DID NOT LIKE YOUR FOOD. Do not continue to probe me because I didn't like your disgusting tasteless food. She acted as if she was shocked that I didn't enjoy their dead tasting food. I have no idea where this place has been my entire time here but I'm upset I'm just now finding out about it. It's all the way down 9th Avenue on your left, if you're coming from the mall. I passed it initially but just make a left at the light and turn into the shopping center. I ordered the blue ribbon fried chicken; my sides were cabbage and mac n cheese. It was DELICIOUS! Great food, poor service. My wife and I stopped in for dinner. They were not busy at all. We stood at the front for at least five minutes before someone finally seated us. We then waited another ten minutes before a server came to the table to take a drink order. Again, they were not at all busy and seemed to have plenty of servers. When the food finally came, it was excellent. When we finished, we headed to the register to pay our bill. There was no one there. People began lining up behind us and still no one to take money. I finally went back to the kitchen area and told a server we needed someone to pay. The response was "There's no one there?" She went and found the person who was supposed to be there and he took our money. There was no apology to the people that had to wait for him to come take their money. My first ever visit to Po Folks. My husband was excited that we found one so close to our hotel since the one in Indiana closed several years ago, and it was his favorite restaurant. The food at this location was not as good as he remembered. He had the country fried steak, fries, and corn on the cob. The breading on the steak was soggy, even with the gravy on the side. His fries were cold and limp. The corn was okay. I had the chicken strip dinner, with mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. The tenders were hot, juicy, and well seasoned. Absolutely delicious! My sides, sadly, were flavorless and cold. I would venture to guess they had been plated several minutes before my tenders were cooked. We also ordered the fried green tomatoes and hush puppies as appetizers. Both were very good. We ended up taking lots of leftovers back to our hotel room, but never finished them. These are probably the best shrimp and grits in Pensacola literally. I've tried others and none were as good OR as good of a deal for your money! I paid 20 bucks at a different restaurant for shrimp and grits that was, quite frankly, trash. They gave me four shrimp!! For 20 dollars!!! But, at po folks I paid like 14 bucks and they gave me a dozen fried to perfection shrimp and delicious cheese grits! Although the food quality was good. The service is very poor. We came in with a larger group (we called ahead to make reservations) and we had one server for 20 people! The other servers stood there and watched our waitress take orders, get drinks, and care for everyone on her own. It was very unprofessional as some of them continued to stare in our direction but never offered assistance or spoke to us. The environment was beyond off and won't be a place I would attend again due to feeling uncomfortable. P.S. Taylor was amazing! Fast, friendly service. Fried pickles were lightly coated and piping hot-perfect. Fried chicken is excellent, never disappoints! As sides go, the green beans are well seasoned. Skip the mac n cheese and the mashed potatoes. The white gravy had an "off" taste, it may have just been me but get it in the side just in case. Great value and comfortable-suitable for everybody. We have been here many times. When the place first opened the service was not great. The management has since corrected the problem and the service now is very attentive, friendly and fast. The food is great. It is not fine dinning, if you are looking for that go to the Grand Marlin. If you want good southern cooking this is it! My favorite is the bone in catfish. It is some of the best catfish I have ever had. The turnip greens are perfect and the hush puppies are great. My husband loves the everything salad and my cousin says the chicken livers here are awesome. Pofolks is good southern dining at a reasonable price. read more

The service is not what I remember! It was 3:00 pm on a Monday with about 12 customers in the place. After a 10 minute wait and a conversation with the head waitress our drink order was taken. Food was great as always, but customer service is just as important to me. I went in for a pick-up order that had been placed online. It was ready and waiting. The cashier was on the phone. She finished up her conversation, and I said hello. She said, "Be right with you mam". She proceeded to walk away as another cashier took her place. I said hello to the new cashier, and she said, "how can I help you"? Told her I was there for the pick-up order and gave her my name. She said "here it is" and told me the amount owed. I gave her my card which she processed and gave me the receipt to sign. I told her "thank you" and she said nothing. Normally I tip more than expected because it makes me feel good and hopefully is appreciated. I did not tip because the customer service was terrible from both employees. I am retired after working in customer service and management for 41 years with AT&T and Navy Federal Credit Union. I did not feel valued or respected. I am a black female and I did have a mask on, hopefully, this was not the reason why I was not treated better. read more

I ate here for the first time last night and was pleasantly surprised. The menu is out of a mark twain book with all of the ignorant euphemisms that you would stereotype a uneducated southern person with, don't let that discourage you. The fried chicken was outstanding as was my server Tay. Such a place of contradictions, horrible music accompanied by delicious nectar of that God's that is there sweet tea. The food is definitely worth suffering the antiquated borderline racist menu and the wonderful service cancels out the Christian country music that shreds your eardrums, but to top out all off this place is ridiculously cheap.
