Saturday night, late August, with reservations, four Fernandina Beach 50-Somethings decided to give Pogos a try. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Parking was easy, the ambience of the restaurant was wonderful, and the service by Kayla, was great.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They even started us out with a wonderful complementary hummus dish that was perfectly paired with some sliced pita. Ordered was the Seabass, the lamb chops, and the Bolognese. During the meal, everybody at the table reported it unenthusiastically as "OK... Good". After the meal, in the car, all four reported sort-of the same stating that it was "all right". All agreed that there was something lacking in the food. It was not portion size, except for the lamb dish. The sea bass was reported as a tad salty and rubbery. The lamb was eaten by a fellow who believes that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.... but he did say he wished there was more because he remained hungry. The bolognese that myself and another had was alright but lacked a robustness for what was expected for a $30 plate of pasta. It was hearty with meat and the pasta was cooked nicely... it's just that there was no wow-factor flavor-wise. But I will say the shaved Parmesan cheese on top was delightful. I write this after I just had my left over Bolognese the next day and I can confidently report the same. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Now, like I said, the ambience is wonderful. They've put a lot of thought into making this classy. It is.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The drinks were fantastic, the bar is beautiful, and they were extremely attentive. But if I wasn't being honest about the food, I would be doing everybody,to include the owners and management of Pogos, a disservice. The Duck was amazing!! Wasn't a huge fan of the scallion pancake it came with though. Personally would have preferred some sort of rice side instead. For such a beautiful aesthetic, the food was disappointing. Not only was it over priced, but the portions were small, as well. The oyster appetizer was very expensive, and they were very small. The broccoli Rabe was terribly oily, and bitter. The pork tenderloin, entrée, although tender, lacked flavor and the grits were bland, as well. The Panna cotta was delicious, however, it was served in a large, deep bowl, that made it difficult to scoop out of. The portion was also so small that we barely had two bites each. Our server was pleasant, however, she did not come back to check on us after delivering our entrees. She did not serve or clear from the appropriate sides and did not clear our plates until asked to do so. Then, at the end, she reached across in front of my husband and dropped the bill tray on the table without so much as saying, thank you. It was a very odd experience. Ok so I think we have figured out the best things to order at this place. The APPETIZERS!! Twice we have ordered the mains and they don't measure up to the appetizers. Been there midweek and the bread board which is wonderful mostly unless you get it mid week. The bread seemed kinda stale when we ordered on a Wednesday. But it was amazing on a Friday. We like going to these restaurants on the south end so navigating the best items on their menus is what we do. read more

Wonderful Sunday brunch. We sat on the lovely landscaped porch sending out a slight whiff of spring flowers and babbling brook. Food is excellent if you like breakfast or lunch. I was disappointed that the crab eggs Benedict is just a corn muffin with crab inside. I was hoping the crab would be in the sauce rather than the muffin. I couldn't taste the crab at all in the muffin either and it was super dry. I didn't even finish it. Had Brunch here this morning. Nicely decorated, modern furnishings, but no music so it felt a bit like a library. We started with the cornbread with jalapeño jelly. Decent taste, but instantly crumbled as you cut it. Ended up eating it with a spoon. Not sure if it needs more shortening or something. Around the table we got the chicken and waffles, French toast, and crab Benedict..all seemed to be enjoyed. I ordered a traditional eggs plate. Scrambled was tasty, but for $10 I expected a little more egg. It came with two slices of bacon and yummy potatoes. Bread was extra. The biscuit side was delicious, but again, $7 for two regular sized biscuits seemed excessive. I would have gladly paid a few more dollars for a complete breakfast with perhaps 3 slices of bacon and some sort of bread. BTW, they hand you a mask to wear for the 10ft walk to your table. read more

I remembered today after yet another visit to Pogo's that I have not left them a Yelp review. So here it is. I have dined here on numerous occasions including both lunch and brunch. To start, the restaurant is beautiful. The ambience is so nice and relaxing and you can tell a lot of thought went into the restaurant as a whole. The cocktails are amazing and the pricing during happy hour is really great. The bartender(s) are very proud of their creations and it shows. On my first brunch visit I asked the server for sangria and she said they did not have it. OK, I moved on. Danielle (manager), who has known me for many years as being a customer at Brett's came over and asked why I wasn't having sangria...Because you don't serve it. She said we can make anything and just like that I had a wonderful sangria. And I had that again today. They also have daily drink specials and some are quite amazing. The food is very different from a lot of menus on the island, but does offer some great things. Being a vegetarian, I do wish they offered more for folks like me, but I still can usually find something or something with a substitution that works. My favorites are the boiled peanut hummus with pita bread, the soups, the brunch items, and the cocktails. My meat loving family really likes the banh mi sandwich and steak and eggs. The service is very good and the managers all check in to make sure you are satisfied. Pogo's is very good and definitely worth a visit. read more

Top notch service, great wine list and the food was excellent. We were immediately escorted to our table upon arriving 15 minutes early for our reservation. We started with the Bacon Farms Green Salad and the She Crab Soup. My husband absolutely loved the soup; however, the salad was my favorite. The server recommended the mushroom stroganoff and also the Pogo burger. My husband and I split both and were absolutely floored by both. The pasta always cooked perfectly al dente. The mushrooms were so meaty that I would have thought it was a traditional beef stroganoff- however, it was not so filling. The burger was cooked perfectly, and could be described as a Pogo "Mac". The sauce was spot on, the beef was cooked perfectly and the pickles and caramelized onions were an excellent complement to the perfectly crisp fries. It was a blast back to college and the Golden Arches- but way better! I visit this area for several weeks out of the summer and this is the first time I have visited Pogo's Kitchen. Of all of the (relatively limited) restaurant experiences I've had since the COVID-19 pandemic began, Pogo Kitchen created one of the most memorable experiences. As we walked up for brunch, a hostess greeted us outside and offered complimentary champagne, which was a great immediate stress reliever. There was also hand sanitizer at the table. Those that remember when this location was Gourmet, Gourmet are in for a pleasant surprise. The modern interior of Pogo's is spectacular, and it was hard to believe that I was dining at the same address that I had been to many times in my childhood. The dining room has no shortage of tables, but does not feel crowded in the slightest. A small bar lines the right-hand side of the restaurant, and there is even an outdoor seating area to the left. On to the important stuff - the food. My folks and I decided that we would share a variety of items, which allowed for a well-rounded taste of their very diverse menu. We started by splitting the Oyster Stew, and proceeded to order several items from their Share Plates. Every item, from the tasty Scallop Crudo to the perfectly-cooked Braised Pork Cheek, was delicious in its own way. We topped it off with the Beignet and a Chocolate Tart - both excellent. Throughout the entirety of our meal, our server Betsey was attentive and answered all of our many questions, including several which related to their vast wine selection (they also have a full bar). This was a fantastic overall dining experience, and Pogo's is a great addition to the ever-growing restaurant scene on the south end of Amelia Island. read more

I my fiancee checked out this restaurant on our trip to Amelia Island. The food, service and envoirment are definitely worth a try. I strongly recommend Pogo's as a to-go place if you are looking for some fine dining at Amelia. Menu: the menu is limited during Covid-19. We couldn't get my fiancee's favorite Bone Marrow. But the menu provides other good options. Food: We ordered blue crab soup and it was very creamy. The house gave us complimentary hummus, which kinda equals to the bread course. I was never a hummus fan but I definitely loved their hummus which is mixed with ground peanut and herbs. I love the fresh taste and herb spice of the hummus. For main course, we had filet, mahi and grilled vege. The filet is surely worth the price. Tender inside and chewy outside. We are Okay about the mahi since it's a bit dry. Grilled vege tastes fine but we wasn't expecting a sandwich. Drinks: we had Manhattan, apple spiced magrita and expresso magrita. My favorite is the apple spice to balance the biterrness of alcohol. Good choice for ladies! Environment: We sat outside in the neat garden. Very chill and cozy. The service was great and everyone wore a mask. They also provides hand sanitizer to every table. Not something that I would normally chose to eat but hey, it was complimentary. Then we had the baby gem salad which came with this delicious honey vinaigrette. As our entrees wife had the Pogo Burger which was excellent. Very juicy and tender. I ordered the pan seared salmon. Which I have to say was the BEST cooked salmon I EVER had. Cooked to perfection. I can't understand how anyone could give this restaurant anything above a 2 star review. Our server was excellent - that is the only thing good I can say about our dinner tonight. The restaurant was only half full, but still the drinks were slow to be served, and my cosmopolitan tasted just like Hawaiian Punch. The blue cheese olives in my husband's martini were jarred, not fresh made and the blue cheese was horribly chalky. My husband and I wanted to have a nice, slow dinner and wanted to order their small plates one at a time, and we told the server we were in no rush. The server apologized and said that the kitchen only allows orders to be submitted all at once. We should have left then. The oysters were fantastic, but in each bite we encountered shells. The Hamachi Crudo was beautiful, but bland. The beets were good, but had very little goat cheese and again, bland. The best thing we ate all night were the sugar snap peas, but they were hard to finish because of the amount of oil left at the bottom of the dish. read more

I came here for a friend's 21st birthday while staying at the Omni. We made a same day reservation of 6 and accommodated, which was great! We sat outside and the outdoor seating is beautiful! Upon arriving we took our seat and were welcomed by our hostess Ashanti who was so friendly. Collectively, our party ordered the duck, filet, rigatoni shrimp, fish and chips, and pogos salad with shrimp. As one of the highest rated spots near our hotel, I didn't have that high of expectations, given that we were in a vacation area. However, I did expect a well delivered meal. While some entrees were superb, some were extremely disappointing. The filet that I ordered (also the most expensive item on the menu) was cooked well done and sent back, it was charred, over cooked and I ordered medium rare -- when returned (by the manager who was very kind) the steak was good, but not worth the price...just unfortunate that it happened that way! The shrimp rigatoni was also okay. Lastly, the shrimp atop the pogos salad was absolutely burnt to a crisp. The type of burnt that leaves a charred taste in your mouth. On a lighter note, the boiled peanut hummus that is included is delicious. If you like Thai flavors you'll love this starter. The best part of the night, however, was the duck! The duck was PHENOMENAL -- some of the best I've ever had! Would recommend this dish above all! Overall we were here for 2 hours and the service was just okay....the food was inconsistent so be aware. It is a five minute drive from the Omni and a very convenient spot if you're vacationing, but there are also other options on the island. Xx read more
