I flunked my first contact application appointment and I booked a second appointment for contacts at 3:30 hesitantly, explaining I wouldn't be able to arrive until 3:40. I was assured this would be fine. I arrived at 3:40 and went into the doctors' office around 4:10/4:20. I had practiced beforehand and was able to put the contacts in (hooray!). I had an unexpectedly really hard time getting the contacts out though. After trying for a while and asking for help, my doctor Amanda Gannon told me she "didn't know what to tell me" and that if I couldn't get them out by myself or with assistance that I would have to go to the ER and have them surgically removed and that MyEyeDoctor was closing in 10 minutes. She kept telling me that I had to get the contacts out and that they were closing until I started crying. She kindly told me she would wait until I could get them off and after the pressure was taken off, I was able to take out the contacts. She told me I had "gotten myself worked up" and that I would most likely be able to put contacts in at home. I was surprised to see that I left exactly at 5, which is when MyEyeDoctor closes. I can't imagine how hard these eye doctors are working and how much they want to get home, but this is one of those experiences in healthcare that will stick with me. I appreciate the doctor giving me some extra time, but I really feel like this whole thing could have been avoided with different scheduling or with my doctor easing up when she realized I was struggling with the contacts. I did wind up getting them out in time for closing, but I was really scared and upset. I came in and immediately the person at the counter said something like sorry, we no longer carry that brand. Not understanding why that should be my problem, I asked to speak to the manager. He was pretty rude & said there was nothing that could be done about the paint and then acted like he would do me a big favor - rather than standing by his product - by replacing the lens, while trying to make me feel like this was my fault. He expalained that he had the same brand glasses and multiple children who were regularly grabbing them off his face, yet he never had a problem with these glasses. But that's not the best part of my experience. Due to my work schedule it's difficult to get to their place of business during regular hours. So their technician, Garrett, offered to stay after closing to align and grind the new lenses and fix the broken arm. He spent the better part of 90-minutes after closing to insure that the grinding, polishing and aligning of the frame and glasses were a perfect fit for me. That's extraordinary customer service and deserves to be lauded. Let me not forget to mention Jonathan Parrelli who entertained me with conversation while I waited. When I asked for my new prescription I was told I would have to commit to a $600 fee for fitment of lenses in order to get the new prescription. I thought this was extortion. Harney billed my insurance company $60 for the exam which did not even net me a new prescription. I ended up going to the optical department of my local Costco which charged a $100 fee for the exam and fitment. Lens costs where also as cheap as you will find on the Internet. 5 stars for Costco, 0 stars for ripoff artist Harney, but I have to select at least one to post this review.
