Sharp piece of plastic
Angelica S.

‼BE CAREFUL! wanted to try a new poke spot so I ordered through DoorDash. 1st it was missing my avocado I paid extra for & then I contacted DoorDash to resolve the issue. As I continued to eat my bowl there was a large sharp piece of plastic in the crabmeat that stabbed the inside of my mouth and I had to spit out before I swallowed it from whatever I did get to eat... it was delicious but definitely an unfortunate safety hazard from this business... DoorDash refunded me my $ but when I called the business to inform them what happened so they can check if there's more they didn't answer... I'm not one to complain at all but I'm afraid to finish my bowl :(

We love this place. Their selections are always fresh, always welcoming. Thank you, grandma Poké!

Been coming here for a while now, maybe 3 years. I enjoy their food and only ever had one bad experience, which was when the crab was spoiled. I went back and they offered another bowl or a refund. They fill it pretty well, only thing is that they are a bit skimpy with their protein. 16$ for a small bowl is what I usually get .

Large Bowl and miso soup

Wow. This place is just wow. First of all the young man that helped me was so polite! He was really friendly and inviting! He was amazing but the real highlight of course is the Poke. I've had my fair share of poke places, even Ono's in Hawaii! While nothing can beat Ono's in my mind, this comes pretty dang close! For $21 (plus tax of course) you can get a poke bowl bigger than your head. I'm serious I have a humongous head and it can fit in this thing. If you check in you'll get a free cup of miso soup too!! The one thing that I didn't expect though is they don't mix the fish with the sauce. They put the fish directly in the bowl and put sauce on top. I'm not used to it but it's no biggie! The fish is also not fishy at all! For reference I came in thirty minutes before closing and everything still tastes fresh as can be!!! Part of me wants to gatekeep this but this is a must try!!!

a bowl of sushi and vegetables

I'm not much of a poke person, maybe had it 2 times? and not enjoying those raw fish morsels with whatever sauce it was mixed in when I tried it. That being said, I do love sushi and been craving some kind of raw fish recently. But the Yelp reviews of + or - had me really intrigued as well as scared to try. Drove by multiple times, making excuses like it's close to closing time don't want leftover fish. Or how do I order these things, so many choices. What if the tall young guy is there that everyone is unhappy about? Do I still try it? Finally got a chance 2 weeks ago and was still hesitant since it was close to 7:30pm and wasn't sure if ingredients would be fresh. Pulled up to parking and saw maybe 2 tables outside eating the poke, so it reduced my alert level from red to orange. Saw someone walking out with food and further reduced from orange to yellow. Entered and it was just the older gentleman slowly restocking the rice and felt safe to level green. But then seeing the spread of all the ingredients and all the steps on the menu had me a bit worried and back up to yellow. Went ahead with 2 large bowls ($15 for large I think) to maximize trying the fish varieties between me and wife. Wow the large bowl or rather deep plate gets a LOT of rice! I can't eat that much rice, but had to get large to get the 5 small scoops of fish. Not even sure what I picked on the 1st station with veggies and salads. Avocado, onions, cilantro, corn, edamame, seaweed, etc. Before going to the 2nd station, a lady from the back came out to reload the salmon in the station. So fish was still being refreshed 30 mins to an hour before closing time, so I felt much better, level back down to green. The 2nd station was the raw section with the tuna, salmon, scallop, albacore, spicy tuna, shrimp, etc (maybe there was octopus too, not sure). Think I put in the first 5 on my list since they seemed to be safe choices. Then adding the sauces and rest of the available additions. Of course, no idea what sauce to add (like I said I'm no poke expert), but can't go wrong with Ponzu right? Said ponzu and gentleman drizzle it over the bowl. Then he held up the next sauce I assume eel sauce maybe, why not, go ahead. Then he put spicy mayo and I was worried maybe it'll be spicy, but he said not too spicy. I figured the ponzu and eel sauces would make things too salty so stopped there. Add the wasabi, furikake, garlic chips that everyone seems to like on reviews and called it a meal, He put a lot of wasabi on there, but too late to say that's too much! Paid with CC and left with heavy bag of 2 large orders. And another customer had walked in by then and she knew what she was ordering. Seems like the store has a nice number of local/regulars who seem to come to get dinners, so it was a good sign. As far as service, the gentleman did not say much and I guess moved kind of slow but part of that is my fault for not knowing what I wanted as well. So I didn't have any problem with the service (maybe got lucky with no young guy? or since can't mess up when I am there ordering?). Onto the food. Surprisingly delightful, even though I probably made a strange combo of ingredients! The sauces I thought was too much was not overpowering at all, in fact next time I would want more of the sauces all over to eat with all the rice, lol. Fish qualities were fine and fresh, it's not like eating sushi but with the sauces and ingredients providing different flavors in every bite, it was actually quite refreshing! And the dollop of wasabi I was worried about having to throw away, it wasn't the usual blow up my sinus type of wasabi. Very mild, I could just add decent pinches of it to my bites to add more flavor, without the nose burns, wow! I think it's a great bowl to have when craving some raw fish, but not ready to go all out and get sushi. This is quick and fresh and satisfying for when you want to grab a quick fish bite. I would grab this again when I feel like having the raw fish/rice since all the additional ingredients just makes for a delish meal. Not sure how to rate the food, I guess a 4? 4.5? Not a poke person, so not sure how good other places are, but this seems plenty satisfying to me. The tastes actually was a surprise, was not expecting to enjoy it as much as I did, lol. If on the fence like I was, give it a try. Definitely better than what I was expecting. Wife loved it. I didn't get to taste the scallops but she said those were good too. Maybe next time I'll get half rice/half salad, although I did end up eating most of the rice since things were tasty. More ponzu sauce maybe I would have finished all the rice, lol.

5/5, vegan review included:…read more Vegans & vegetarians this one is for you!! I was shocked to discover Hanamaru served both meat eaters and the plant based crew, and could not believe my eyes when I saw they had a vegan menu on Yelp, but call me astounded when I realized that it was several PAGES long. It reminded me a little of Huntington Ramen in Fullerton, and the similarities make sense since they are sister restaurants, as noted by previous Yelpers. We visited on a Saturday night to celebrate some birthdays, and realized that they had a pretty full crowd. We waited a little to be seated, but afterwards, service was both kind and attentive. I struggled to make up my mind on what to order, because everything on the vegan menu had pictures and looked absolutely phenomenal. I wound up just asking for a recommendation for the most popular roll, and landed on the vegan volcano roll, while my friend ordered the non-vegan volcano roll. We also ordered several small plates: baked mussels for my friend, and vegan inari bomb and vegan tofu karaage for us to share. While we waited, the server brought out two crispy rice--one vegan and one not vegan for us on the house. They were simply delicious, and I will need to order that the next time I'm dining here. Everything we ordered came quickly, and tasted as good as the pictures. My friend tried one of my vegan rolls, and she said it was just as good as her non vegan rolls. They're super flavorful but manage to taste very clean and light, perhaps from the cucumbers. She might just order from the vegan menu next time too! Of the small plates, I liked the tofu karaage more, but only because the flavors on the inari bomb resembled that of the rolls I ordered. I've been to many vegan sushi places over the years, and this is one of my favorite spots, despite it being catered to both meat eaters and vegans alike. After we finished, they also served us one vegan and nonvegan ice cream on the house. While we didn't tell them we were celebrating birthdays, their extremely kind service made us feel exceptionally well taken care of. It was ~$70 after tip and I tipped higher for the great service we received, so pre-tip prices are not unreasonable. This will definitely be my go to spot for whenever I'm craving vegan sushi.

First Visit (Thursday - Essentials AYCE): We came with friends and tried a wide range of appetizers, ramen (good), and sushi, including all the limited premium selections. The shrimp tempura and dipping was very bland, and the soft-shell crab lacked crunch, but the salmon & yellowtail collars were excellent. Fish was fresh. All items were generously portioned and their generous cuts of fish was impressive. We also liked the grab-and-go drinks and desserts (though no Coke Zero). The restaurant filled up quickly after 6pm, so arriving early helped. Service by Sue was friendly and attentive. Second Visit (Friday - Signature AYCE): The Signature upgrade includes an omakase starter, unlimited bluefin tuna, plus everything on the Essentials menu. The unlimited bluefin tuna was melt-in-your-mouth delicious and worth the $15 upgrade. We mainly focused on sushi this time - blue fin, yellow tail, limited premium (scallops were amazing) items, avocado cut rolls, and carpaccios. The shrimp tempura was bland again (strike two) but the shishito peppers were a nice surprise. Finishing with Coke Zero (yay!) and ice cream was perfect. Chelsea, our waitress, was very attentive and engaging. Overall: Fresh fish, generous cuts and portions, and the Signature AYCE upgrade make this spot a gem. They also offer fresh-frozen wasabi which is a plus for me. Not everything hits the mark (tempura!), but the variety, attentive service, and value keep us coming back. Glad to have found a local Japanese restaurant with AYCE options nearby.

It feels much larger than it appears, and the layout is really well done. I also liked how the restaurant manages to feel open while still giving each table a sense of privacy. Even with other diners around, it never felt crowded or too exposed, which made the whole experience more comfortable. The lighting is on the dimmer side, and I actually appreciated that. It creates a relaxed atmosphere where you can enjoy your meal and conversation without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. The staff is also easy to get ahold of whenever you need something, which made the service feel attentive without being intrusive. As for the food, this is where Arigatto really stands out. A lot of AYCE sushi places focus more on quantity and consistency across the menu, but here it feels like the chefs genuinely care about the details. The presentation, the balance of flavors, and the way each item is prepared all show a level of attention that you don't always find at an "all you can eat" spot. If you come during peak hours, you may wait a little longer for some dishes to arrive, but honestly, it never bothered me. Once the food hits the table, the quality and care that went into it make the wait feel completely worth it. For an AYCE sushi restaurant, Arigatto delivers an experience that feels a little more thoughtful and elevated than most, and that's what keeps this place very impressive.

One thing that stood out was how quickly the courses came out -- almost too quickly at times. It felt a little rushed and didn't really give enough time to fully enjoy or appreciate each piece before the next one arrived. At one point, we had 4-5 different things in front of us to eat. As for the sushi itself, some pieces were solid while others felt a bit average and not especially memorable. That said, for around a $100 omakase, I think the experience and quality were fair for the price point. You probably shouldn't expect ultra high-end, top-tier omakase quality at that range, but overall it was still enjoyable and worth trying at least once.

It turned what could have been a simple dinner into a memorable experience from the moment I sat down. I ordered the sashimi plate, and it was absolutely outstanding--fresh, beautifully prepared, and surprisingly well-priced for the quality. What impressed me most was the honesty of the staff. I was considering ordering a larger portion, but they actually talked me out of it because they knew I wouldn't finish it. They were right. That small gesture showed me they cared more about giving me a great experience than squeezing a few extra dollars out of my wallet. That kind of customer service is rare these days. What makes this experience even more memorable is that I had just come from X Fish Izakaya, where I spent nearly an hour waiting to be seated while watching people who arrived after me get seated first. I left feeling frustrated and completely overlooked. Walking into Chubby Sushi was the exact opposite experience. Here, I felt welcomed, appreciated, and genuinely taken care of from the moment I walked through the door. As if the food and service weren't enough, on my way out I met a well-known food reviewer and even got the chance to hold a giant tuna head that Chubby Sushi had on display for a photo. It was one of those unexpected moments that made an already great night unforgettable. Sometimes a bad experience leads you exactly where you're supposed to be. I'm genuinely glad X Fish Izakaya dropped the ball because it led me to discover Chubby Sushi. This wasn't just a great meal--it was one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time and one I'll remember for years to come. I'll definitely be back. Chubby Sushi didn't just earn my business--they earned a customer for life.
