Create your own poke?! Yes please!! I love the fact that the possibilities are endless. I stumbled on this place with my best friend. She's a pescatarian and just recently moved to Texas. I'm glad she got to try out this place when she was here. When you first enter, you walk down the assembly line. Let them know which size you prefer and white rice, brown rice or salad (I prefer half salad, half white rice). It comes with a side of imitation crab and avocado, you can opt out if you choose. Then you choose the toppings to be mixed into your poke. You can choose between cucumbers, raw onions and green onions (I'm not a fan of cucumbers). Next, you can choose between an assortment of protein. I usually get ahi and Hokkaido scallops. Then you can put whatever sauce you want on your poke. I usually do sesame on the ahi, mild spicy on the other ahi, and wasabi soy sauce on the scallops (it's potent, so I'd recommend diluting it with some soy sauce lol). Then you can add extra toppings on top of your creation. I usually get furikake all over and the orange fish eggs and choi sum. It is essentially a Subways, but for poke. Because it is hand made, the results always differ. The first time, the wasabi sauce wasn't spicy enough and the last time, all my sinuses cleared up and I was bawling in the Ala Moana food court by the end of my meal. I have no complaints, but I do hope they turn down the wasabi because that was definitely an intense meal lol read more

A fun new poke shop near the food court in Ala Moana shopping center. This place lets you design your poke bowl exactly how you want it. Initially ordering was confusing because there are no instructions. My coworkers and I just observed the people in front of us and ordered accordingly. First, you choose the size of your poke box and if you want white rice, brown rice or salad. The meal comes with imitation crabmeat, a slice of avocado, green onions and a couple more items. You are able to choose what you want. After making your selection you have the option of also picking your own sauce. The employees will mix the poke with seasoning on the spot. At the end, you are able to choose from additional add-ons to round out your poke mix (I.e. furikake, tempura bits, etc). You also get to select a side dish. The number of sides you get depends on the size of your meal. (I order the small so I had one add on and one side) Prices seem standard for what you got. This is a great place for people who love choice. If you're like me and you don't know exactly what you want, it may take a little longer to order. It's not just another poke bowl joint, it is a one stop shop where you customize your own poke (Subway or Chipotle style), box it and take it on the go. The Makai Market Food Court consists of a fun collection of sustenance for a wide audience. But an addition is always great to a continuous bustling sector. Located on the Makai side of the food court, immediately next to Cheeseburger Factory is Poke & Box which is never hard to spot. The ever so large signage P&B displays on the inside and outside of the automatic glass doors makes locating the entrance that easy to find. I have a big appreciation for places that serves fresh fish because raw fish is one of my favorite things to eat since moving to Hawaii. Not knowing what to expect, I walked in to a non-busy hour. The modern set up is welcoming and so are the ladies working behind the counter. Tala was the first to approach me and asked if I had been before. I answered with "I've heard a lot about you guys and I'm excited to try some poke!" Glancing high at the brightly lit menu were beautiful illustrations of fresh veggies, grains and raw fish. The bowl options come in 3 sizes: Servings are plentiful and medium was too much for me. I should have chosen the small box. Small poke box- $7.99 for 1 type of poke Medium poke box- $9.99 with 2 types of poke Large poke box- $14.99 with 3 types of poke Step 1: Pick Box Base Which consists of White/Brown/Salad and or salad. I love brown rice, two scoops was given for the medium box. Step 2: Poke Poke Choices: My first choice was salmon and scallops Fresh Ahi (raw & traditional) Salmon (raw) Scallops (cooked, big meaty scallops) Tako (cooked octopus, chewy) Shrimp (cooked) Tofu (great for vegetarian option) Chicken (fully cooked) Step 3: Sauce I've never had sesame sauce with my poke and this was my chance to plunge in. Sesame is comparable to Asian sauce which is great with a bead of salad. Shoyu Aja Spicy Shoyu (Hot Spicy) Go Chu Jang (Mildly Spicy) Creamy Sesame Wasabi Mustard Step 4: Toppings I ordered avocado and crab meat for my two sides. There are additional fees for avocado since it's part of the options. The cucumber and two types of onions were hand-mixed (w/plastic gloves on) with the two poke in two separate bowls. After placing the mixed scallops and salmon poke into the box. Out of all the garnishing's, I decided on the tempura flakes instead of the nori (seaweed), dried onions and furikake. The last step was to choose two more veggies as toppings. A small helping of corn and soy beans were placed to finish the box. At this time, I told myself that the medium was too much food for my appetite. The portions are generous and the options, plentiful. For the price, it's unbeatable and great to share. Cold tea, soda, water, energy drinks, juice bottles are plenty for grabs, and are towards the cash register. I'm happy that the fish are fresh and doesn't have the slimy, fishy smell. Super fresh fish and tasty sauces! I love all the options they have for sides as well! Ahi, salmon, shrimp, tuna, scallops, and more... Shoyu, spicy shoyu, creamy sesame, and lots more... Choice of white or brown rice or salad...nice You can add avocado and crab salad at no additional cost, also add white or green onion and cucumber to your poke. And the two side options are beautiful. All my faves, too bad it's just ONE choice of each. I got the creamy salmon with crab salad, avocado with all free add ons. Then, ocean salad and dried onion. And brown rice. The salmon was so fresh and soft and fatty! The sauce was sweet enough and had a nice sesame taste. Yum! 8.99 for one choice. Price is ok. But it's the food court. There are 3 sizes, and the larger you go, the more choices you get. Don't make the mistake I did of ordering the small, because with the small you get only one poke mix (i.e. ahi, salmon, shrimp), and two box tops (i.e. toppings). It's not enough food, trust me. My poke box consisted of: brown rice, avocado, crab meat, raw and green onions, cucumber, salmon, shoyu sauce, tempura flakes, and edamame. It was delicious. The portion was small for the price paid ($8.37). But then again, we're at the mall, so higher prices are to be expected. Would I come here again? Certainly! I don't normally dine out on my lunch break but with all the positive reviews -- I couldn't wait to try it! Located in the food court--- you'll see it across from the escalators (closer to ala moana beach park entrance). I ordered (2 choices for $9.99): Shoyu ahi poke with cucumbers, green onions, tobiko/masago, seaweed with shredded dried nori on top! (The cucumber and masago gives the poke SUCH a nice touch). I'm pretty boring but I thought it was so cool how you could get TWO different orders (spicy ahi and shoyu salmon with different toppings) It comes with two scoops of rice and imitation crab which is on the side so it doesn't cook your poke--GENIUS!!! (Take notes, Foodland) I'm a small girl so I was able to save half of it for a nice snack for later -- great value! My friend devoured his--- we were both a smudge hungover from an epic St.paddys night-- PERFECT HANGOVER FOOD, imo. Make your own poke bowl??? I LOVE THIS and I will definitely be back. Such a great concept that seems all the rage nowadays with all types of foods (think: Subway, Pieology). Poke & Box is located on the ground level of Ala Moana Shopping Center, in the food court, facing Ala Moana Beach Park. If those directions really confused you, just go to all the entrances/exits to the food court and you'll eventually find this place. Seating is not a problem during non-peak hours, of course. Parking, too, is not a problem during non-peak hours. However, at the time of this review, there is a ton of construction going on in the parking area right outside of Poke & Box, so you'll definitely have to walk a bit before getting here if you aren't lucky enough to find a stall right outside. But no fear! It's located in a HUGE MALL so you'll be walking anyway! The concept is simple: 1) Pick your base (white rice, brown rice, all salad) 2) Pick your poke 3) Pick your sauce 4) Pick your toppings 5) Pick your sides They mix the poke for you right when you select your toppings. Depending on whether you get the small, medium, or large size "box" will determine how many types of poke you get, the sauce to go with it, and how many toppings you can choose for your poke. What's great is that this awesome meal won't take a toll on your wallet. The prices are reasonable, and you wouldn't think so, but you'll definitely get full from it. I ordered the medium box: all salad, 2 poke mix (which means two sauces), 2 vegetable sides, and 1 topping. I WAS FULL and barely finished it. I love this idea. The poke tasted fresh. The toppings were fresh. I could pick what I wanted to go into my plate. The only (minor) drawback: you better decide quick because the line moves fast. I mean, you can definitely move at YOUR pace, but your poke master will be staring at you, bowl in one hand and glove in the other, repeatedly asking what it is you want to add to the plate. I do wish they cut the fish a little smaller, as I'm not too big on huge chunks of raw fish, so I would prefer smaller cubes, but that's just me. The food is good if they would serve the food according to their pictures on the wall ie, a bowl of poke with a nice portion of avocado on the side. Just Look at the pic behind their cashier station, completely misleading when we got our food. The server gives you only one small slice of avocado. In addition, This place regularly runs out of avocado. It suppose to be a main ingredient in the bentos they sell and yet they constantly telling customers they run out. It's one of the few unprocessed foods (aka healthy food, more costly to the store) they have besides the main dish - poke seafood. We were there on Sunday 7/7 and was told they had no avocado. This is the 4th time they have no avocado again. we were coming here once a week for months. We will no longer do so. We recommend Ahi and Vegetables, also at Ala Moana shopping center. They are not in the food court though. However for the price you paid, you get a lot more for your money at Ahi and Vegetables. I do not recommend this place for their false advertisement. read more

Coolest place to get customized poke in Ala Moana!!! I've been meaning to try this place and finally had the chance to! This place is really cool because there are so many ways to customize your poke bowl: 1. White rice, brown rice, salad? 2. Do you want.. Avocado or imitation crab... or both?? 3. Do you wanna mix onions, cucumbers, green onions or all in your poke base? 4. Pick your choice of fish!! (I just realized there's also shrimp, tofu or chicken) 5. Choose your mixing sauce! (You can ask to sample because I was too overwhelmed at this point) 6. TOPPINGS!! When you see tempura flakes, you go for the tempura flakes!! :) If you don't like tempura flakes, there's also shredded nori, furikake,or sesame 7. Top it off with one of their options at the end for free! I got tobiko :) So in a nutshell, I got salad with avocado & imitation crab, onions, cucumbers, and green onions mixed with salmon and the creamy sesame dressing, topped off with tempura flakes and tobiko! I'm really satisfied with my first experience here. Not so satisfied about the price, but that's what happens when you're located in Ala Moana. A similar concept to poke that I've recently had on the mainland. You choose your base, fillers, fish, sauce, and toppings. Customizable for those who enjoy that type of thing. I chose the brown rice with avocado, onions and crab meat. The medium box comes with two fish options so I got ahi and tako. They also have a few vegetarian options available as well! That was neat. I mixed two different sauces, the Aja spicy sauce as well as the wasabi shoyu. The line was quite long behind me so I felt the pressure to hurry up and not ask too many questions about the options. I topped everything off with tempura flakes and masago. I was a little confused when I noticed they were mixing all the fish options separately. If I had known that's how they're mixed I probably would've gone a different route with my options! Oh well there's always next time. I like that they always use fresh fish! There were some fattier stringy pieces hence why I can't give it the 5 stars. I have had better poke at other places. But overall, a good place. Oh! Forgot to mention, the medium box was 10.99. Every now and then, I get massive poke cravings so I searched "poke" on my handy dandy Yelp app and came across this new gem! Tucked away in a corner of Makai Market at Ala Moana Center right next to the Cheeseburger Factory is this tiny Korean Chipotle-style poke shop. You get to totally customize your order by picking what you want step-by-step, and at the end, you get to choose sides, which include things you'd find at Korean food places, like taegu, corn, choy sum, kimchee, etc. Seems like most other Yelpers already laid down the basics of how to order, so I'll skip that for my review. The bf and I stopped here after an empowering workout sesh at Yelp Fit Club: Fit For A Goddess. I was super excited because of all the mouth-watering photos I've been seeing on Yelp. There were so many options that I wanted to try which made it really hard for me to make a decision! I think I kind of annoyed the lady working because she was the only one taking orders and there was a long line forming while I was deciding. Oops!! I ended up with a medium bowl with white rice, avocado, crab meat, cucumber, green onions, ahi and salmon, shoyu sauce, furikake (on top the rice), and taegu and kimchee (as my sides). I just have three words... DE-LI-CIOUS!!! I loved having avocado and crab meet (something I don't usually get in poke bowls) and especially taegu and kimchee on the side! It was so flavorful and all of the flavors blended together in sweet harmony. It was $10 for a medium bowl, which my bf and I agreed to share, but he only ate a tiny bit since he already ate a little earlier. I don't think a medium was big enough to share equally between two people, but it's perfect for one person if you're starving! Highly recommend trying this place out. First review of officially living in Hawaii. I am staying nearby the mall, a lot of food options here at the food court. I love Poke and looked good from outside. You can enter from the food court or from the main street, pricing is $8 for small, $10 for medium and $15 for large. A large can be enough for two people, had a medium for myself and I was pretty happy with it. You can two servings with the medium, and you can even split into two items from each serving. They do have brown rice which is a plus. read more

I was very skeptical when they it first opened. It was not a familiar concept of poke we're already used to in Hawaii. Typically a store will already have their poke flavors out and it would be up to you to determine how much you want. But you can customize it here! The staff was very friendly and easy going which made the visit very pleasant. I went with medium both times I came here and got a scoop of rice and salad to start. They then offer you a scoop of imitation crab and avocado which was nice. Then it's time for your meat. I went double ahi. You get to choose if you want onions as well as any of their specialty sauces that they have. (They'll also let you try the sauces) It then gets mixed up and plated on in your box. It was a messy hodgepodge but a DELICIOUS messy hodgepodge. If you don't like your food touching other food you will faint the moment you add on your banchan but for me no problemo. After taking my first delicious bites of poké l was already thinking what I should try next time. So that warrants five stars from me. They lomi your poké in front of your very eyes so lots of decisions needs to be made. I did the medium plate which is a choice of two personal poké creations. Choice of white or brown rice or salad. You can go half/half. Then they give you two small scoops of 'sides' which was imit. crab salad & avocado that day. You can opt to have only one side which they'll double up on. Pick your mix-ins (green onions, round onions, cucumbers). I like all so I did all. For my two proteins I picked ahi cubes & tako. My sauce choice was kochujang for the ahi & creamy sesame for the tako. Choice of one topping for your poké. Choose from furikake, kizami nori, tempura chips, or sesame seeds. (EDIT: If you go two toppings from the above list you only get one banchan choice, so choose wisely.) And on top of all this you get two banchan choices. All for around $10. The kochujang was surprisingly sweet & not that spicy but overall I enjoyed it. The takuan I chose for my banchan was also sweet so I have to re-think my strategy next time. I could probably make two meals out of this but I was hungry so I demolished it. Definitely going back again soon. read more

I love me some Poke but I'm not having it here. There are other great places to eat some yummy Poke aside from here. However the location and style is ideal! But unfortunately it's more for the tourists. I came here for lunch because everyone raved about how this place was great. I wish I could've bought in, I really wanted to like this place, but I didn't. The workers were nice and greeted us right away. How it works is simple, pick a plate size, type of rice or salad, choice of ingredients (meat + veggies), sauce, and sides. The worker kept pointing to the avocado like I wanted it, but I don't like avocado with my Poke! Lol. I love how they mix it all infront of you. It's kinda like Poke bar meats subway. I got the super spicy ahi & spicy soy Ahi with rice, ocean salad and taegu. The spicy ahi had no flavor at all. It was bland and tasteless. The Spicy Soy on the other hand was the total opposite. So salty and overwhelming with no kick of heat. I'm glad I got the ocean salad as my side because that was the highlight of my plate. The prices were a little high and wished they added more rice to compensation the saltiness of the soy. But overall, this place is bleh. If I'm desperate for Poke and this was the nearest place open, then I'd come back. But sadly I wouldn't use this as my go-to spot for Poke. read more

As I was walking around the Food Court at Ala Moana I came across this place tucked away in the corner. I never knew Poke & Box existed. I love Poke and looking at their selection I knew I'd love it here. Most other reviews have the process down but in case you need to refresh on that: 1: Size (small, medium, large) 2: Rice (brown, white) or salad 3: Avocado and imitation crab salad sides get added (free!) 4: Mix-ins (cucumber, onion, green onion) 5: Choice of main (ahi, scallops, tofu, chicken, etc) 6: Choose sauce for each main 7: Sides (furikake, tempura flakes, takuan, kim chee, choy sum, taegu, ocean salad, corn, etc) Although the medium is huuuuge, I definitely recommend getting that just because you have more selection and you can sample more of their menu. The amount of sides and mains you get is based on the size of your bowl. My medium came with 2 choices of protein and 3 sides. Everything was delicious and I especially liked the creamy sesame sauce. If you're looking for something like spicy mayo, try the mild or medium spicy sauces. Amazing concept!! Located on the Makai side (ocean/beach side) of the Makai Market Food Court; right across from Aja's (which are the owners of this establishment) - Poke & Box (that's po-ké for those who don't know. Like Pokémon lol) presents the imagination of a "create your own poke bowl" experience! This little establishment starts off your experience with an up-to-date, modern feel, much like how the Ewa Wing of the mall presents itself. With nice white lighting, and a clean yet semi-spacious feel, it almost seems "futuristic" to the eye when you're greeted with large LCD displays that features a simple, yet awesome menu. The journey continues by first choosing your entree size from small, medium, and large. The entree size is based upon the number of servings: small is one serving, medium is two servings, and large is three servings. Trust me when I say that a medium is a lot, unless you're REALLY hungry then go for the large! Now every entree comes with either white rice, brown rice, toss salad, or a mix of half and half, and a small "side" of avocado or some other things I can't remember. Once you've chosen your starch, now the fun begins! Choose your poke from fresh ahi, salmon, chicken, and tofu. Then choose a topping to mix with your poke. Now comes the sauces, with up to eight different flavors to choose from. Like Spicy Shoyu, Wasabi Mustard (my favorite so far) and others. You can even mix MORE than one type of sauce with your poke! Now, since I chose the medium entree - and it comes with two servings - I chose two different flavors for each of my poke servings! So I had regular Shoyu poke and Wasabi Mustard poke, and mixed each with green onions! Lastly, to finish it off, you can choose up to three sides! I chose Furikaki(on the rice), Taegu, and Mac Salad. Let's just say, at the end of it all, it was awesome! The fact that this is about 2/3 lbs of FRESH poke, and around $10 for a medium entree with two servings of poke, rice, and three sides. This thing should have cost more like $13-$15 for all that you got, but it's priced right! And I know that we're mostly used to an over sauced out poke from most places, but in my opinion, serving poke this way allows you to really taste the FRESHNESS of what you're buying; and not coating it with sauce to make it taste good. Poke should taste good, even without sauce, much like good sashimi. If you're a in the mood for some good poke, and want be able to create your poke bowl within less than 5min upon being served, and at a great price, then this is your go to for a good poke bowl! Sad really. When they opened I came here weekly. Every time I've been here in the last year, they just give less and less actual poke. My current bowl, 3 shrimp. THREE Poke, I've counted 9 ahi cubes. Okay, y'all need to know I LOOOOOOOVE POKE! During lunch, I usually walk to the Ala Moana mall to get some steps in. I discovered this place when I went to the food court to get something to eat. I'm soooooo glad I found this place!!! This place is very clean and small. There are no seats available in there...its like a walk through. But obviously, it doesn't matter because you're in a food court. When you go in, you can order a S, M, or L poke bowl. You then move on to choose what you want in your poke bowl. You can choose between white rice, brown rice, or salad...i always get brown rice. Then you choose if you want avocado and/or mixed crab (or imitation crab?) meat. Then, you choose if you want onion and cucumbers when mixing your poke. You then move on to the sauces you want your poke mixed in. There's shoyu, spicy shoyu and creamy sesame and 5 more choices to choose from. They'll mix your poke right there for you. You then choose your sides and toppings. This all takes less than 5 minutes...a plus for me! The food is amazingly delicious. I mostly order the small...its a good e ough serving for me. There is so many places you can get a poke bowl now a days. But the idea of creating your own poke appeals to me. I am particular on what I eat and what's in it. When I order poke, I don't like some common ingredients like onions (round or green) and mayonnaise (no matter what you mix it with). What it must be is Fresh and not frozen Ahi. If there's no Fresh Ahi option, I'll pass in a heart beat. If I'm not starving, I get the Small. It's a perfect lunch. I would get brown rice. Choice of Avocado and imitation crab salad or both. Avocado only for me please. The you can have cucumber, white onions, green onion or all. You guessed it. Cucumber only please. My protein will be the fresh ahi. Add the Extra Spicy Shoyu for my sauce (#12) then mix. I skip the nori, tempura flakes, furikake, sesame and dried onions. Why? Because I get two topping and don't want to waste it on "garnish". I rather add two at the next counter. So many more options to choose from, but it's usually, choy sum and daikon for me. If I am starving, I would order the medium and so a rice/salad mix (I can never eat more than a scoop of rice anyways). The sauce is the perfect dressing for the salad too! I would have scallops as my second protein. Now that's a good poke bowl. So, if you've eaten poke for as long as I have, you know what you like. So make your own at Poke & Box. My friend highly recommended Poke & Box the last time I came home! Their medium portions blew me away. I ordered the medium size where you can pick two protein choices and three topping choices for $9.99. Honestly the best deal when the small size is $7.99 and the large size is $14.99. You start off by picking white rice, brown rice, or salad. I recommend you do half rice and half salad as their rice comes straight from the cooker. Some Yelpers have complained that the hot rice ended up cooking the fish a bit. If you pick salad, they will put the fish over the salad. Each plate comes with avocado and imitation crab. I picked ahi for both of my proteins (since there's something about parasites in the salmon now?!!). The fish is mixed with onions, green onions, and cucumbers and your choice of sauce. The spicy shoyu wasn't spicy at all, so I went with Mild Spicy (server says it's mayo and sriracha) and the wasabi mustard (which is a bit vinegary). You can mix sauces, too, and if you need recommendations the workers would be happy to recommend the best mixes! After they make the fish, you can pick three toppings. The owner, whom I had the pleasure to meet, recommended 1 dry topping and two saucier/wet toppings. I picked nori seaweed, choi sum, and masago. Each time I go the Ala Moana food court I like to go to this place for poke style bento. The food here is good here, and the menu selections that you can cater to your liking. I normally get the two choice bento (ahi-salmon) and you could add different sauces and a several different toppings to choose from. Bad side is you can only have a few things down the line. Workers there are not that friendly. For the price I feel it's fair for the amount you get. This place is Overall good, but improve more on the service standpoint. read more

It was surprisingly difficult to find fresh, healthy food options in Honolulu, so I was happy to stumble upon this place while taking my teen daughter shopping at the mall. I am mostly vegan, but the closest option was the Mauka box, which I had with the salad. The flavors were fresh and the texture was nice with the combination of the creamy dressing and crunchy Romaine. I only wish they had a vegan dressing option. My daughter loved her salmon poke and we came here twice on our trip. It was honestly one of the best places we ate at in Honolulu. read more
