Got to eat at Poke Box in Ala Moana Shopping Center food court. First impression was the price. Very reasonable starting at $7.99 for a small poke bowl. You are able to choose your size, rice or salad, then fish, toppings, and mixture of 8 sauces. I decided to get a small poke bowl. I got white rice, cucumbers, avocado, imitation crab, onions, ahi, furukaki, and Kim chee. For the sauce I mixed spicy shoyu and their creamy sesame sauce. Overall my poke bowl was ono! Very favorable and great mix of ingredients. Next time I will choose another size and ask how much more 2 or more selections of fish would cost. Porobably one of the best custom poke bowls I have eaten. Best still is Da Poke Company on Kapahulu. However this place is cheaper. read more

Fun concept! Reminds me of Chipotle but this is a spot where you can build your own poke bowls! They have ahi, salmon, squid and other types of poke - for small size you get one choice of poke along with 2 side choices. You choose your sauce, sides and toppings. Way overpriced for the quality. I got the large size, but I wish I didn't spend my money on such a big size as I did not even eat 98% of it. Went to this place yesterday, but I was not very impressed, because the Ahi tuna was not fresh; it was looking gray. There were four ladies working there, however they seemed confused, & irritated. New go to spot for poke bowls. Located at the Makai Market Food court on the outside near Curry House. Great concept with generous portions. Choice of starch or salad followed by your protein selection; non seafood options available as well. Choice of 8 sauces that the staff with mix up then your toppings. Depending who you get they can be pretty stingy. Flavor is quite good. The spicy is my favorite with the gochujang being disappointing. Sesame was also quite lacking in flavor. I wish you could put whatever side you want so that it is included in the cost (like chipotle), but I understand the ingredients are more expensive. Update... Been here twice since original review. Drastic in service and serving portions. Both times we were given less, especially with the salad. With avocado it went from two skinny slices to one. Sides we got were so little bit compared to first time. Disappointing.... Service also feels rushed and they don't give cups of water at all just option to buy water or other beverages. This is a great poke place if you are only in Waikiki area. This restaurant is hidden in a corner at the Ala Moana mall food court. I would greatly advice people to try local poke outside waikiki especially local food trucks- don't go for the super hyped touristy food trucks. First, you can choose between rice or salad (if your being extremely healthy) Then choose between a variety of mixes to go with your poke; like imitation crab, green onion, cucumber, avacado etc, then you choose your base; ahi, salmon, tofu... ikura etc. once you picked your mix you can choose a sauce! Of course, they offer different types of sauces for your poke with different levels of spiciness. Then after you watch them carefully mix together your poke you can add on two toppings! For me I love tempura flakes. But they also have nori and such. Then the last section you pick one side I believe, I always get ginger...and boy do they load up on the ginger! The poke place where the local eat. I was pointed to it by the hotel assistant food manager who said he is addicted to it. The portions are very generous compared to mainland. I got a two-item combo for dinner and could not finish mine. I had never been served this much raw fish at once, so part of it may have been psychological. Compared to poke places in California, this place skimps on toppings and add-ons, which make poke bowls so interesting and flavorful, but if one believes that the main part of a poke bowl is poke, he or she will not be disappointed. One thing I thought I would find in an "authentic" island poke place was tuna that is pre-marinated in a variety of delicious sauces. At first it was not too spicy, but probably half way through it was getting spicier for me to handle, ha! I may have to go with the regular shoyu next time, but I think it's a good amount of spicy for you spicy lovers out there! SERVICE: They were friendly and explained the menu, however I did feel a little rushed, but I get it, it's supposed to be fast service and there were other people in line behind us. Ugh sooooooo good! My friend and I decided to try this new poke place and it was THE best poke I've ever had. They give you complimentary avocado and crab meat if you want, I got a small poke box with crab meat and fresh ahi with hot spicy sauce, furikaki and choi sum (8.30). I love all of the "create your own" places that have been popping up. As a self-proclaimed picky eater, it's so much better to be able to say exactly what I want in my food without feeling like I'm being overly demanding. Poke & Box is located along the edge of the Ala Moana Center food court. You can take your poke bowl and eat it at one of the many food court tables after picking which delicious toppings you want to add to your box. Here are the steps: 1. Size. Small, medium, or large? A small was enough to fill me up, but I was not super hungry when I went. 2. Base. I chose brown rice. You can also go with white rice or salad. 3. Poke or other protein. I always go for ahi 4. Sauce. I've tried the spicy shoyu, which is not spicy at all in my opinion. 5. Toppings. 6. Sides. Tips: In my opinion you should not order furikake as a topping. I would much rather go with something else, and just add my own furikake from home or something. (Why do you think girls bags are so big? I need room for my sriracha, hot sauce, and furikake, duh!) The food tastes good, and is pretty fresh. I love adding takuwan for that pickly crunch to keep things interesting, and avocado for them healthy fats. I'd like to try their tofu someday, even though fish is my main squeeze. Customer service here is kind of hit or miss. None of the workers seem super excited to be here, or seem super helpful. It's a small clean and modern store with only take out since they have all of the tables in the adjacent food court. P&B is actually outside of the food court facing on the Makai end facing Ala Moana blvd. Your first pick the size of box being small, med or large. Then you have a choice of white, brown rice or salad. Then comes the main attraction with choices of ahi, salmon, shrimp or scallops. Then there are a variety of sauces which they freshly mix your seafood in. The final step is the toppings with furikake, nori, onion and too many others to mention. They also have avocado, onions, cucumber and imitation crab salad include as sides. All ingredients a fresh and it was a nice treat where I had the salad with two seafood choices. Got the ahi and tofu on salad, cucumber, imitation crab, onion, sesame sauce (dead ringer for my favorite kewpie deep roasted sesame dressing). Fried onion topping, and choy sum and edamame on the side. It all sounds kind of crazy mixed together but was good! Ahi was very fresh and good. Decided to try out Poke & Box while I was at Alamoana Food court today. Overall it was a pretty good tasting experience. You can order between three sizes small, medium, and large. I decided to go with the medium size which included two choices of fish, two scopes of rice with sauce, toppings, and vegetables. I ended up choosing the fresh ahi and tako with brown rice topped with shoyu sauce on the ahi and their new sesame sauce on my tako. I gotta say this Poke was probably the best Poke you can find in the area. Very fresh and great tasting. It was also a cool experience because you get to see them mix and create your poke box right in front of you !!!! read more
