I got a tuna poke through MealPal and it was very disappointing. I got The O.G. and the tuna was flavorless and the rice was hard. I've been to the Poke Bar location in Berkeley and felt similarly there, but I hoped that this place would be better. This one is located inside the main hall of a larger building and is a bit hard to find unless you know to go indoors. One perk of this place is the variety of toppings you're able to select. It helps them stand out from the several other poke places in the area that have limited offerings. The space isn't designed for people to dine in so plan on taking your food elsewhere. I ordered delivery with a bottle of Fiji Water for $2.5 but unfortunately, they forgot to put it in the bag. And strangely, the poke I ordered had literally no sauce at all, maybe only a hint of soy sauce when I told them I wanted the Chili Mayo and Spicy Soy Sauce and House Sauce. DO NOT ORDER HERE. They regularly run out of ingredients but don't update their ordering system. Multiple times I have returned to my office to find they made my order wrong, and today I walked all the way back, spoke to the manager, only to discover that he is aware of the problem and doing NOTHING about it. "Not my fault, I don't run the website," he said. You pay extra for an ingredient online, ask for your order and when they hand it to you, do they tell you something's missing and offer to refund? Seeing a poke counter in the FiDi is always a pleasant departure from the ubiquitous soup/salad/sandwich joints. They had some pre-designed bowls as well as Chipotle-style build-your-own. I was still asked if I wanted anything else added in, which defeats the purpose of a pre-designed bowl... though I did add some edamame and the delicious fried onion and fried garlic toppings. Overall, it was pretty standard poke. Lots of hot white rice on the bottom. Fresh chunks of raw cool fish on top. A nice salty marinade. The veggies and herbs helped enhance the fish. Regret. Sucks doesn't it? From wasted time with the wrong person, to soul sucking months and years at an evil job to wasted calories at a mediocre place. All are things that cause regret. I regret not just getting my butt up to find something better, or perusing the Yelp reviews of Poke Bar more, of even finding another suitable spot on Ritual that was still open and could make my order quickly. I finished a meeting nearby close to 3pm. Everyone knows most Fidi spots are open only for lunch and they typically close by 2. I hadn't eaten a meal all day and wanted something quick and pretty healthy. I've been trying to use my apps more and have enjoyed the Ritual app. I had some credit on it, and it said my poke bowl would be quick to make, so I decided to put in my order. It was easy to order and pick up. They don't offer any water cups or water and they suggested the nearby Starbucks in the building for that. There's no seating either, so you'll have to sit inside at one of the couches. Since it was an odd time I was able to get seating in the building. Upon opening the container I saw they were a bit stingy on the fish. I'm use to slightly more generous portions. Upon the first few bites I noticed how salty it was. I felt like I got my whole 2000mg of daily sodium allowance from this meal. They poured way too much shoyu (you can see on the second picture where I've eaten the majority of the contents but left the shoyu soaked brown rice. Granted, yes brown rice doesn't absorb as well as white, but I've never had a problem before when I've gotten brown rice and greens poke bowls. While disappointed, I am happy to say, no food poisoning resulted from this. I was a bit afraid as to the freshness as it was getting towards the end of the day. Opted for the brown rice and house special sauce. Many toppings to choose from and I got the mixed nut as a topping (which is new for me and I really enjoyed it). Price wasn't too bad either! If you don't want to build your own bowl, there's a set menu you could choose from. Unlike other poke places, you can choose the size of your bowl here from small, medium to big. I got a medium salad bowl with salmon, scallops and octopus. The portion is big enough that I could split it into two meals. Since there was a special promo through the Ritual app for 1st time orders here at Poke Bar, I decided to place an order here for a small Poke bowl. As it turns out when I arrived at the location, this place just so happened to be at the lower level (concourse) of the same building that my gf works out of, which made it an added bonus as I got to meet up with her as well! Despite just ordering a small bowl, the portion size here is quite generous as the poke was definitely packed into the bowl, and I was quite full by the time I was done. Included in the small is your choice of base (white/brown rice, salad, noodles, or chips), 2 sides, 2 proteins, and unlimited toppings. Although the storefront is pretty small, it gets quite busy here as this place apparently is a very popular lunch spot. Cashier was very friendly when I went to pickup my order, and seating is available right in front of the establishment. Although the protein was not the freshest I've ever had, it was ok, and definitely very filling. A great bang for your buck! read more

I was craving poke again and came back. I came around 1:15pm and it wasn't crowded at all. I got pretty much the same thing, small portion with salad. There were two workers, so I got my order done super fast. The salmon and tuna were both really fresh. Not too many places allow you to choose as many toppings, so I still really appreciate that. They have a wide variety to choose from. They also have a lot of different sauces to try. I usually get ponzu. They don't skimp on the portions either. My boxes have been full each time. The box is pretty big, so I think I wouldn't even be able to finish it if I got it with rice instead. Definitely worth the price, especially for being in downtown San Francisco. I'm always cautious about Mainland Poké. I just don't know how the raw products are handled. In Hawaii there's so much turn over and the Ohana ethnics gives me confidence the fish is fresh. My colorist, Kristine at Steel and Lacquer assured me Poké Bar was high quality. So after playing beauty parlor, I stopped in. A medium serving of mixed greens and three scoops each of Albacore, Maguro, and Tako were topped with a a plethora of yummy stuff. I especially liked the Jalapeños, Furekake, and Crispy Onions and Garlic. Spicy miso dressing was delicious. Lost a star for the helping of greens were packed so tight in the container it was hard to get at them. Plus, the $17 (with tip) was a bit pricey. Definitely not kamainea! read more

During Ritual's $1 Downtown Food Fest, I was excited to try out new lunch options. One of the spots within a couple of minutes of my office and I never even knew existed is Poke Bar since it's hidden inside The Concourse at 555 California. I suggested to my coworker that we should order from here. The good news is that our orders were ready when I got there so pick up was quick. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. Portion size is small and the bowl that the poke is served in is not conducive to mixing the various components. The wasabi it came with was in a weird shade of green. The imitation crab was so unnecessary - seriously, who wants imitation crab on their poke? And the tuna? Yuck! It was not fresh and it was sinewy. I'm not sure if I missed the option to select white rice but I also did not enjoy the cold brown rice that was in the bowl. Although Poke Bar appeared to be a good "value" for our $1 lunch, it turned out to be our only miss of the week. read more

This is the first poke place I've been to since working in the financial district and it didn't exactly wow me. A small (2 scoops) cost me $12, a hefty price for a quick lunch. The service is quick and it's located in a fairly convenient place (with a Starbucks nearby) and seating both inside and outside the building. I got a scoop of the spicy tuna and salmon on a salad with corn, cucumbers, edamame, masago and spicy mayo. It tasted fine but it really just isn't worth the price. Maybe I had ordered too few items but I'll probably try out other poke places in the future. read more

This is one of a handful of healthy food options DT, and I have to say I'm surprised that the fish is always very high quality - plus you get a decent portion. My typical order is the firecracker poke bowl which is comes with Ahi tuna, sweet onions, cucumber, green onions, masago, spicy mayo, sweet chili & house dressing. It spicy but doesn't go overboard, and I like the coating of sauce on the raw fish for some reason. Have recently been on a Poke kick so I've been trying Poke spots in SF and around the Bay area. Was curious and went into this venue on California street. Was located in the nice cut-out/atrium of 555 California. First observation as I noted in another recent Poke Spot is that the scoops of protein are very noticeable and what people pick up. For me it's a differentiator since typically the taste at most of these spots is very similar. At this venue the protein portions seemed a little bit "light" compared to other spots which is o.k. but the taste couldn't compensate for this either. Reading a couple of the other reviews it seems like I didn't come on a bad day but maybe they'll read their reviews and make some adjustments. Perhaps it's the presentation of the poke as well that makes it seem "smaller" than comparable venues. So all in all while it was a solid lunch option, I can't say that I'll be returning but I'm happy I checked it out. Had a really solid lunch here today. Chose the salad base (fresh) with salmon and tuna which both were really yummy and fresh as well. There's a ton of add ons for this spot which is nice and they don't guilt trip you for wanting to tack them on. But there's so many amazing, public rooftop areas that it isn't a problem. The Sunset House consists of ahi tuna, salmon, kale, brown rice, seaweed salad, imitation crab, cucumber salad, masago, crispy garlic, and sesame seeds with house dressing. The house dressing is delicious but it didn't feel like enough. Dressing was not spicy at all which is perfect for me: I'm soft when it comes to anything spicy. Definitely preferred the salmon pieces more than the tuna. However, the real tragedy is going to be the hunger of your stomach after you've finished your meal. Maybe Poke Bar thought they could trick everyone's stomachs into feeling full by providing brown rice? Sorry, but my stomach didn't fall for that. The container is barely, if at all, 1.5 inches in height. I took a picture of my pen for comparison. Did I feel like I was getting my money's worth for this lunch? Nope. Did I enjoy the taste? A nicely stocked Poke Bar with fresh fish and delicious toppings and sauces.  I've been here twice, once during opening week and again today.  Both times I ordered the small with salmon and tuna, seaweed salad, and imitation crab and almost all the toppings over white rice.  At first glance, the container is small which makes me think that I am not getting my money's worth because they spread rice on the bottom of the container and then lay poke on top.  However, both times when I ate at this place, I've been stuffed and satisfied with the amount of fish and toppings I had.  I tried both the wasabi mayo and the sriracha mayo.  Sriracha Mayo is my go to.  They chop their fish in pretty small pieces, which I think because it mixes well with the other small toppings.  This was my second visit since they first opened and their fish is still pretty fresh!  I will be visiting again! read more

Solid poke bar for lunch in the financial district! The rice was cooked nicely and the greens were fresh. The fish quality was decent, though they have their scallop in this weird milky looking goo. Service wise mostly everyone was really nice and friendly but the guy who was scooping my fish and toppings was trying to rush me too quickly and didn't even offer the fried garlic at the end, I had to ask him to put it on after they put the lid on my container. Was excited to try this new poki place for lunch during the work week. There was a nice line and it was going by fast. Ingredients looked fresh and many to choose from. Everyone was pleasant behind the counter. I asked for a sauce recommendation and left. Unfortunately, the sauce was drenched onto the ingredients making everything too salty. I was able to eat around most of it. I probably won't be going back. Being downtown there are a lot of food choices. Good luck to the place and those who like it. This is tucked into a corner of the BOA Concourse right across from Proper Foods, and it's quick, convenient, and service is excellent. Portions are a little small, both the container itself (quite shallow) and the fish portions can be a little stingy. Every time I've had this the fish is quite fresh, and the assortment of ingredients are varied. It's not the best Poke I've ever had, but it satisfies the craving.
