If you are already a poke fan, DEFINITELY check them out. If you are a newbie or poke-curious, Poke Munch makes it VERY easy on beginners - and the staff is the "sauce on the bowl" if you will. It has been the same, clearly-invested, friendly and engaging staff on each visit (Ie....no rotating high schoolers checking IG on their phone while you figure ish out). Poke Munch is a Hawaiian take on the poke bowl. It is in a small shopping area with plenty of parking. You enter the shared dining area mentioned above and head right to order at the counter before moving on to your seat. The dining area and restrooms were very clean each time I visited. There is a ginormous, easy to read (and understand) list of recommended bowls. Keep in mind you can customize whatever you like! Or ask the staff to make you their favorite bowl.....put their favorite combo of sauces on your custom bowl....etc. etc. I DESPISE ginger, and as I get older, the number of carbohydrates consumed and the size of my pants seem to correlate, so I always hold the ginger & grains and get all mixed greens as the base of my bowl. Their raw, cubed fish has always been exceptionally fresh. There are a ton of vegan options and if you don't care for raw or surf, there is an excellent Crispy Hei Hei bowl with sesame chicken tempura, white cabbage, cucumber, sweet onion, carrot, shiitake mushroom, crispy garlic, unagi sauce, and PM sauce - but again, construct and customize any way you want. Do not sleep on the *Shiitake Mushroom Pot Stickers*. LOVE! Chopsticks, cutlery, and soy sauce are available. Grab a lid for your bowl if you don't finish. Was very surprised when the day I made my original review about a bad experience, the owner called and emailed me personally to apologize wholeheartedly, and offered to remake the entire meal for free whenever I wanted. He even assured that any issues experience would be fixed within store, and that he takes customer safety and happiness seriously. Poke Munch felt like a somewhat pricey splurge to me until I figured out I could order a big build-a-bowl with extra protein (total of three) and extra rice, then make TWO meals out of it. The salmon, shrimp, and ahi tuna all have seemed so incredibly fresh that I've felt safe saving half 12 - 20 hours. Perhaps not recommended, but works for me. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here! I had been planning a dessert lunch at Spoonful, with which PokeMunch shares a space. However, upon seeing their appetizers, I decided some tofu fries were a great way to add some tasty protein to my otherwise sugary meal. They had a fairly thick, and perfectly crispy, coating with toasted sesame seeds. They were so different than the delicate, thinly battered tofu fries from Oriental Spoon. So good! (For the record, they're FABULOUS at both places--just different!) :) I look forward to coming back and trying PokeMunch's mushroom dumplings. Went here for the first time yesterday and holy smokes!!! It's like sushi in a bowl. I got the build your own with white rice, the crispy chicken, crab salad, green onions, carrots, cucumber, sesame seeds, wontons, and avocado with some spicy soy and spicy mayo. To say it was delish is an understatement. Already thinking about when to go back. Portions are big- had enough for lunch and leftovers for the next day. The leftovers were just as good. What a delicious bowl!! This newly opened poke spot impressed us on so many levels. Coming from the Los Angeles area where poké is plenty, we've tried quite a few so the bar always feels high. Even in LA places get lazy and cut corners on ingredients like using old fish or even down to the mayo brand they use in the spicy mayo. This place was not like that at all. Presentation was great, the array of homemade sauce flavors were high quality, the balance of mix ins and protein was fairly proportioned. They don't have masago(orange fish eggs) or furikake (flavorful seaweed seasoning) yet but the bowl held its ground without them. If you want a little more rice to absorb the sauces you can ask for that. My favorite part was their spicy tuna. You think of it sometimes as one of the most basic part of poke bowl, so it doesn't always stand out. This one felt special flavor-wise and texture wise. It was jam packed with the perfect touch of flavor and I took a bite and had to turn around to the owners and yell across the room "this is good!" They are just 3 weeks young and already humbly killing it food quality-wise. There's alot more decor and aesthetic additions they said they are working on but as is, the place feels clean and bright and comfortable. The owners are super welcoming, nice and excited to be bringing poké bowls to the area. A pro tip for vegetarians is to ask for the tofu tempura in your bowl, it's listed as an appetizer but can be the protein if you build your own. Portion size is solidly above average, IMO. We wanted our usual Chinese food but they were closed. So we were on our way to China King but I happened to peak in the window next door. It looked so much healthier so we popped in. I had recently seen a documentary on Poke. I'm not ready to take a chance on raw fish but it's ok because this place has options. The staff was super friendly and helpful guiding us through the menu.
