We walked by and saw this place that used to only offer poke but now also has hot food items available. It was drizzling so I didn't feel like having poke so the hot food items seemed appealing. We ordered a chasiu don (sliced roast pork over rice) and a pork belly don (stewed pork belly over rice). They had large or small sizes so we ordered a small size for both to try since it was our first time trying their hot items. When they brought our food on a tray they gave us a cup of water per person as well even though we didn't ask for it when we placed our order at the counter. Everything was really fresh and tasty. They loaded up the toppings, which I always appreciate. The only thing I didn't love was the house sauce, which tasted a bit too sweet for me. Parking is better here, location is better, the inside of the restaurant also has seating. This place provides more fish, more toppings, and just a better overall price in my opinion. The fish here is great too and they don't skimp. I'm never disappointed with a bowl here because it's always filled to the brim. The starting price is $13 for a small bowl that comes with 3 scoops of protein (crab salad is available as a free option for protein). I've never had an issue with asking for extra toppings or extra sauce. In addition to poke bowls, they have a small selection of ramen, Katy's curry, sushiritto, and hot bowls like chasu don. So this is one . Poke one.. this is our usual Friday payday treat. The common order is the mini bowl with two scoops of the various types of fish, I get salmon and scallops. Whatever you get is consistent. You get to choose your base or combination , rice (white, brown or sushi rice) , salad . Then choose the different types os sauce. Craving a poke bowl so decided to check this place out. Ordered a medium bowl which comes with 4 proteins. For my order, I decided on the salad, spicy tuna, crab salad, salmon and scallop with a mix of ponzu and spicy Mayo. It was ready in about 20 minutes. First, I have to say my bowl was packed and I really had to dig in there to reach the greens on the bottom. There was plenty of crab salad and a big scoop of spicy tuna. They were also generous with the toppings. I liked that my fish wasn't drowning in sauce (like some other places); however, most of the sauce ended up at the bottom of the bowl which meant the greens were well flavored but the fish may be lacking flavor. Poke definitely seemed like a fun choice for a warm spring day. Went with a mini bowl which features 2 scoops of protein. I purposely did not choose any options which had an extra add-on fee cause 1. I wanted to see if it's still worth it and 2. I hate ticky tack nickle and dime tactics. Started my bowl with a base of sushi rice. I thought it was made well. It was fluffy yet savory with good seasoning throughout. For fish protein, I went for salmon and albacore. The salmon was pretty decent but the albacore was pretty abysmal. It was mushy. I understand the profit margin for poke is probably slim but I also don't understand poke places using sub-par fish...that's like the whole business model, no? For toppings, I'm glad I added protein-rich alternatives like tofu, masago, and edamame because those were easily the best of the bunch and it made up for the albacore. The corn, carrots, and green onions were also solid, albeit basic, additions. However, 1 topping was a real let down. I had hoped the mango would add a nice sweet/tropical component, but they scooped me many pieces of mango that was next to the skin meaning it was hard/green and not friendly to chew. Again, why? It's not putting their best foot forward. To finish it all off, I added sauces of ponzu and miso. Both paired together deliciously and I would recommend them. All in all, it wasn't terrible but it also wasn't great. My bowl all said and done was still "worth it" at just over $10. So the restaurant itself was clean and the service was good so for that I'm giving it 5 stars BUT the food I would give 3 stars. They do give you plenty of food for a good price no doubt but I was very taken back by the consistency of the fish. It had an odd flavor and when bitten into or stabbed with a fork the tuna would kind of shred. I eat a lot of poke and this is the first time I've had that experience and I can confidently say I did not like it at all. The salmon also had a different odd taste but the texture was fine so I avoided the tuna and just ate the salmon. The spicy mayo was quite bland and lettuce tasted a bit unwashed.
