Healthy "fast food" option. I came here to meet a friend and though there is a sit down area, we were the only customers to utilize it because most were grabbing their poke bowls to go. Luckily, I was able to learn how to order thanks to the nice gentleman in front of me ordering whilst holding a conversation with me. Basically, the set up is a lot like Q-doba. You stand in line, choose your bowl size, choose your proteins and then toppings and sauce. I chose the regular bowl because it had 2 proteins and I just couldn't decide between spicy salmon and spicy tuna. My bowl was delicious! I was impressed with the amount of rice options, the quality of the poke, and the copious amounts of toppings and sauces to choose from. This place was fine for a lunch date where I met up with a friend I hadn't seen in 20+ years. Everything was delicious, though the milk tea with boba was a little too sweet for my taste. Overall, excellent lunch option, albeit a tad expensive for "fast food." My milk tea and regular poke bowl came up to over $22. Certainly worth it, but not a daily go to option on my budget. I made a build your own bowl that included jackfruit as my protein, and it was very large chunks that were cold and unflavored. Never have I ever been anywhere that served jackfruit like that! It was honestly terrible, and I ended up throwing most of my meal away. My mom also did a build your own bowl and did not like hers either. She is sensitive to spice, and the server helped give her recommendations on the least spicy, but she still had a reaction to it. The food is absolutely delightful. So fresh and full of flavor. Every time I go it's never super busy, which is usually a bad sign if the place doesn't appear to get a lot of business, but that's actually good in this instance because parking and seating is always available. Don't expect a fancy wine and dine experience with servers coming to refill your water and cater to your every need. The experience is strictly the food. Update: I've ordered to-go at least a few times this year (crazy pandemic times we live in). The online ordering system is actually pretty easy to use. I was worried with the options available that it would be more difficult. My main issues with online ordering is that to change something already in your order it will clear the item and you have to start over, and also that I would like descriptions on a few of the items. I've had to google what a few things are, and would like if there were brief descriptions of the different sauces. That's the only reason I've put 4 stars instead of 5. This was my second time getting takeout. I had excellent service and food at both visits. The ingredients are fresh with a wide variety...so wide it's tough to chose sometimes haha. Also the staff is very patient, friendly, and offers advice if you're having a tough time deciding. I've been reading the rave reviews about Poke Toki ever since they opened and finally made it there last weekend. I love poke and sushi but had been a little intimidated by the build your own bowl concept. As it turns out, I had nothing to worry about! We were greeted right away as we walked in and I started reading all the menus. There are a LOT of words everywhere. However once Jacob found out it was our first visit, he guided me to the easier to read signs down by the toppings area. That was super helpful. You get to pick customizations at every step when building your own bowl: Step 1: Choose your base (sushi rice, steamed rice, brown rice, multi-grain, and mixed greens). Step 2: Choose unlimited mix-ins (things like shredded egg, cucumbers, marinated mushrooms, green onions, kanpyo, etc.). Step 3: Choose up to two sides (seaweed salad, calamari salad, edamame, spicy crab salad, crab salad). Step 4: Choose up to two proteins (regular or spicy salmon, tofu, shrimp, chicken, egg, regular or spicy yellowtail, albacore, regular or spicy ahi, imitation crab, or all greens). Step 5: Choose your sauce (there are way too many to list but I just went with the signature Poke Toki special sauce which was delicious). Step 6: Choose your crunchies (tempura crunch, wasabi peas, crispy garlic, etc.). Phew! It sounds like a lot, and it is, but it really wan't overwhelming. I chose spicy salmon and spicy tuna, mango, spicy crab salad, and a few other toppings. It ended up being delicious. They also have spicy mayo and some extra sauces out on the counter for finishing. Jacob was awesome and patient while making my bowl, and I didn't feel rushed. All the ingredients were super fresh and the restaurant was very clean. My boyfriend got the Hawaiian ahi bowl and loved it. There were quite a few takeout orders while we were there and they let us take home a menu so we could call in an order next time. I really like that you can customize your bowl and even get it as a salad for those who want a healthier or lower carb option. We tried basically every option on the menu with their specialty poke sauce and none of us had any complaints. OH MY GOODNESS! If you are looking for some amazing fresh poke, you've found your spot. As soon as you walk in their doors you can smell the tantalizing aromas of the sea. The staff are very welcoming and nice and you're in and out in just a few minutes! The menu offers a BYOB (build your own bowl) which has a bajillion options for combinations with their numerous sauces and toppings. For the more indecisive person like me, they also have signature bowls they fill for you on the spot, letting you decide a few options (sweet or spicy) or if you want to add anything else on top. I ultimately decided on the Chirashi Don and was blown away! My wife and I had Poke Toki for the first time yesterday and we were blown away. I am allergic to shellfish & raw seafood so sadly I can not eat their fresh seafood offerings and my wife does not enjoy eating seafood whatsoever, BUT Poke Toki has so many options for various dietary restrictions. They accommodated my gluten and lactose sensitivities (I know, I know... my body's the worst) and were super nice and understanding. My wife got a chicken sushi rice bowl and I had an octopus and shrimp 7-multigrain rice bowl. Their sides, toppings, and sauces options are extensive and truthfully a bit overwhelming but the staff was super friendly and helpful. They took the time to answer our questions about food items we weren't familiar with and gave us great recommendations for our toppings and mix-ins. We washed down our bowls with a taro boba tea and a Hawaiian guava nectar canned drink. They have an awesome selection of drinks, too. The restaurant's interior is really nice and welcoming but they've chosen to forego dine-in eating at the moment (which is understandable being they're a local family-owned and run business that wishes to best protect their staff's health) but they have online ordering available. I'm originally from Los Angeles and when I heard Poke Toki was opening a while ago I was super excited to have a poke place in Grand Rapids. Wow, this place is fantastic. Having tried Poke all over the country (LA, NYC, Miami, and Hawaii), this is very authentic. The staff was so friendly which makes this somewhat intimidating dish very inviting for a new customer. My wife and I both built our own bowl while the staff helped with great recommendations. The food is very fresh and full of flavor. They were out of a few protein options but it was late at night and it's still their soft opening, so it's hard to complain. Although poke is traditionally simply rice and fish, the numerous toppings that are offered taste great and don't make it any less yummy. Don't forget to grab a drink before checkout! I recommend Milkis (a Korean milk/yogurt soda - TRUST me). Portions are good - I usually go with a large! It is quite pricey in my opinion, but it makes sense because of all of the fresh ingredients! If raw fish scares you, there are other options like crab and shrimp - definitely something for everyone. You can enjoy your meal at home or at a nearby trail - I stopped at Provin Trails by Robinettes for a quick meal. This restaurant has continued to be my go to takeout restaurant since it has opened. I cannot say enough about the freshness and consistency of this food. I am not shy and will go out on a limb and say that this establishment has the "Best Poke Bowls" in Michigan. Too be honest, I have had Poke in multiple states and Canada and this place is still is my benchmark. I am fortunate that this restaurant is in my backyard here in Plainfield Township (Thank you John!). I have recommended this restaurant to many of my friends and will continue to do so as I cannot say enough good things about this place. In addition, I cannot leave this review without also praising the service I get from Danny and Jacob each and every visit. Thanks to these two, I know now that I can just call and ask for "My special" and they will have it ready. Wow very pleasantly surprised . Fresh ingredients and very tasty with expert help if you want to build your own bowl . My wife and daughter built their own and I went with spicy tuna . You can sub greens for rice if you want to keep it lower carb. Lots of add ins and mix ins to personalize any bowl . I didn't have to cook and I am very satisfied as was my family . They have a great variety of grains, proteins, and veggies to add to the bowl. I was very impressed by their salmon shoyu, spicy crab, and their crunchy items! The salmon tasted very fresh! In my past experiences at different poke places, I never really thought about how crunchy ingredients can just take your bowl to the next level!! The added crunchy garlic and tempura was a great addition to the flavors and textures in this poke. If you've ever read my comments they are usually pretty negative (not by choice) regarding the food in GR, BUT I have to say Poke Toki has figured out how to deliver good tasting and fresh food. Was that so hard? I walked in and was greeted by two friendly people, and then one guy walked me through the poke bar where I was able to select each ingredient I wanted. I went with all cooked food, so I can't say if the raw fish was fresh. But I loaded my bowl with seaweed salad, kale salad, spice crab salad, shrimp, and a million other fresh ingredients that made the bowl delicious. I do have to say when I went to checkout I was shocked at the NYC pricing, but I will happily pay it for that level of quality.
