I've been coming to Poke2 Grill for years and have lost count of how many times I've actually eaten here. My most recent visit was about two weeks ago and the experience was consistent with what keeps me coming back. This is one of my go-to spots within The Hanger in Long Beach. It's a straightforward, build-your-own poke spot. I stand in line, look through the display case, choose my proteins, pick my toppings, and pay at the end. I've never had any issues with ordering or wait time. The staff has always been pretty friendly and relatively helpful. Once you get your bowl, you can usually find seating but it can be a little hectic at times. On my latest visit, I ordered a medium poke bowl with tuna, tofu, and crab meat. The fish was fresh, flavorful, well-portioned, and the overall bowl was great. Portions are solid and prices seem fair to me for the quality and location. My one gripe, and the reason this isn't a full five star review, is the menu clarity around the crab meat. It's a bit misleading. It looks like crab is included with the small bowl but it actually counts as one of the three proteins for the medium bowl. I usually end up here because I love poke and that it is one of the lighter/healthier options in the food court. The portions are good, but the toppings are more on the limited side compared to other nearby poke places. The fish is not the freshest, not sure where they are sources them. My chief complaint are the sauces and their lack of flavor. At my last visit, I asked for the spicy yuzu ponzu. I saw them add it to the bowl, but when I sat down to enjoy, I could not taste anything. It was super bland and on top of that there was absolutely no spice for a spicey sauce. Had tried this place before and had a good experience but that completely changed this time around. The poke bowl had several things wrong: 1) they don't mix any of the ingredients (like most other poke places) and so it's very hard to eat it without making a mess 2) the crab meat had way too much mayo. It had horrible taste 3) the spicy mayo also had way too much mayo that overpowered it and you got zero spiciness 4) their eel sauce is "teriyaki based" which basically means it's teriyaki sauce not eel sauce Safe to say I won't be returning. read more

Upon ordering, the employee was loading it up with salmon and tuna which made me even more happier about this spot. But when I started eating the bowl the fish was really slimy and tasted fishy fishy. I know fish naturally has a fishy taste unless you put vinegar on it. Poke2 Grill is one of the food stalls inside of The Hangar Food Hall in LBX. They offer build-your-own style poke bowls. They also have grilled protein salads and bowls, but when I was in line, everyone around me only seemed to be getting poke! You can choose from 3 sizes--small has 1 scoop of fish, medium has 3 scoops, and large has 4 scoops. Then choose your base, protein, flavors, and toppings. The medium size was pretty filling. I couldn't finish the whole thing. They really pack the bowl, which is great! Ingredients were fresh, and sauces were tasty. One thing to note is their crab meat option is considered one of your protein scoops, but they do give a lot! Parking can get super crowded in the evenings! With a flight out of Long Beach in a few hours, the Hangar Food Hall was recommended because of its relative proximity and variety of food options. Because we had eaten so much, I decided I would try to find something healthy-ish. Poke2 Grill seemed to be the healthiest option of all the other choices inside the Hangar. I got the large Poke bowl which comes with four scoops of fish over a base of salad. I was able to add all of the toppings which was drizzled with the yuzu ponzu sauce to give acid and flavor. While I felt the size was generous and filled to the max, I did feel a little bit underwhelmed by the fish quality which didn't seem as fresh. Perhaps because it was because it was near the end of the day? Since they make it as you go, the food came out quickly. Again because I was there at the end of the day, there was a few workers who gave a vibe like all they wanted to do was go home. Totally understandable at the end of the day, but not what I usually expect. Overall, Poke2 Grill is a decent option if you want a poke bowl but the service and quality may vary. read more

This was the only place I returned to on my most recent trip to Long Beach. I absolutely LOVED my Poke Bowl here. The portion size was HUGE. I was a little concerned how much I was getting for the price because I'm used to serving sizes by my in Virginia but this was outstanding. The food was fresh and you could taste just how fresh it was. The service was impeccable. Everything was labeled for allergies which was great for my gluten free diet. The only thing I wish they had was gluten free soy sauce takeaway packets but that's not a deal breaker at all, to be honest, it didn't even need it! I was a bit weary about choosing Poke2 Grill after sifting through some of the reviews, but to my delight, I'm SO glad I chose this spot! Note: this location is at the Hangar, which makes for a perfect date-night spot! I have had poke many-a-times and the bowl I ordered definitely hit the spot! I ordered the small bowl, which had a generous portion of rice, protein, and fixings! I built my own poke bowl picking spicy tuna and shrimp as my proteins along with a scoop of the crab, then added an abundance of yummy toppers including ginger, edamame, green onions, masago, corn, and furikake. I did a blend of the spicy citrus miso and the classic sauce. WHAT A COMBO of flavors! The seafood tasted fresh and the combination of textures, flavors, sauce, and perfectly cooked rice made this an exceptional meal! I am SO glad I got the small size, since I was only able to eat a little over half of it. (Plus, I got to treat myself to the leftovers a few hours when my hunger kicked in) I will definitely be hitting Poke2 Grill up again the next time I am in town and craving a poke bowl. Great price and great portions of fish. They also don't do too many up charges with the toppings the way a lot of other poke places do. The sauces could be more flavorful there wasn't a lot of depth in the Ponzu yuzu sauce. But overall enjoyable. I'm a huge poke lover and can't believed this place was right under my nose! I work out a lot, so I opted for the 4 scoops of protein bowl and they do not skimp you here! I got 4 healthy scoops of protein, 2 of which were salmon, and 2 were shrimp! There is so much customizability to the bowls that I may have gotten a tiny bit overwhelmed, but that's fine because I'll study up what I want before I come again next time lol! Also, their ginger was fantastic! Sometimes ginger is too intense, but their batch was the perfect amount of flavor for what I wanted! Inconsistent. Do not bother with an online order. Probably do not bother at all. A few weeks ago, I ordered online. Twenty minutes later, I went to pick up the order, it had not even been started as in-person orders were clearly being prioritized over online orders by female workers putting together the bowls. Including someone who got in line as I was waiting by the cash register and not being acknowledged. A male worker came out from the back area, apologized, and made a great bowl. A week or so later, tried again online and wife picked up this time. Order again had not been started more than twenty minutes after order, despite it not being busy. The female worker put three scant pieces of ginger and a pea size of wasabi in the large bowl that cost almost $20 after tax and tied up the bag so my wife could not see it was a poorly made bowl until she got home. Ordered today online, definitely will never order online again and probably will not order in person either. One large bowl, three tiny pieces of ginger and a pea-size of wasabi. Ginger is CHEAP!
