It's been a while since I've ordered poke from here, and I was sure craving a bowl today. The place I usually order from (because it's closer to my work) was closed today, so I figured I'd give the Hippo another shot. I got the 3-scoop bowl today with a base of brown rice and salad; tuna, albacore and spicy tuna as my proteins; yuzu ponzu on the side; most of the veggies and also some crab salad. Everything is so fresh and tasty. I appreciate that they use the separator containers that they do for ramen, separating the base from the proteins and toppings. This helps me disperse the sauce evenly, which is a HUGE plus. Thank you for a fantastic bowl! I wish I'd ordered an appetizer as well to make two lunches out of this. I did take one star off because they charge for crab salad, and in my experience, many places do at least the first scoop free of charge. I also wasn't able to request any extra of the "free toppings" as I've been able to do for my usual spot. Minor inconvenience as this won't deter me from ordering from them in the future. The place is in the interesting part of Long Beach. The fish was very tasty. I really enjoy my bowl. I got a large bowl. Overall I was satisfied because of two things. 1 I added the fake crab. 2. I added an extra scoop of spicy tuna. I could tell if I didn't add those add one the bowl would have e been really small. I discovered they have many restaurants operating from this cloud kitchen. I enjoyed the egg rolls far more than the poke bowl - if you want tasty egg rolls, come here, if you want a tasty poke bowl, do not! This place had been my go-to poke spot but I recently had a bad experience. With this place being in a ghost kitchen, you can only order online. I placed my order here as usual and got a notification that they will let me know when it's ready. Since it's poke I assumed it will ready fast so I showed up early and waited in my car. I waited in my car for almost half an hour and still received no notification. So I went inside and asked the guy to check on my order and apparently it has been ready. I was furious because my lunch time was wasted waiting for nothing and my poke probably sat on the shelf in room temperature for who knows how long. If you don't make it easy for them by having them mix the sauce in, then they will forget to put the sauce in the bag with the rest of your order. Delivery and portions seem to be the main problem... other than that, great taste! I ordered (in person at a kiosk) a custom bowl with the wasabi sesame seasoning and the flavor was good, the texture of the fish (tuna/albacore) was good and everything tasted fresh even ordering close to 10pm. No complaints, other than I felt a little hungry after they gave me a little too much rice/not enough fish. I ordered pick up and realized I was here one morning figuring out if there is breakfast to be had but the outside doesn't look like a restaurant. It looks a little sketchy at night but the people working there are nice. In any rate, I ordered from here to try out a new poke place and got a delicious meal. It was weird to see the fish separated from the rice but frankly, I prefer that than to have the sauce be on the side and I forget to put the sauce on the bowl like some other places with to go poke. I couldn't even order on the computer they had so I went here to order and waited 15 mins in my car, then got out to pick up my food from a locker number. I have a go to spot for poké that I think about longingly whenever I try other poké places or order from the poké section of a menu at a sushi place that should really just stick to sushi. That being said, this place earned its 5 stars even with that biased! The ingredients where fresh, the portions are good-sized, and the toppings were a pretty good selection. I'd absolutely love if they added tempura, cilantro, & parsley in the future. For the sauces, I'm not into spice so when I was trying to choose I couldn't tell if the ponzu yuzu would be hot or not so I went with the house sauce. The second time I ordered, which was the next day, I tried the ponzu and both were good, but I highly recommend the ponzu yuzu! We ordered two bowls via GrubHub. Just like the other review - coincidentally or maybe not - the driver did not deliver our order despite processing our order as delivered. We attempted to contact the driver directly, and his listed phone number was not in service. We then called the restaurant just to ask whether they have the driver's contact and whether or not this driver was theirs or GrubHub's. Needless to say, they simply told us to put in another order. Disappointed. I would've expected some effort on their end to make things right. I can't say we're inclined to order from here again given this experience. read more

Packaging fail. Warm rice on the bottom with raw fish on top made for a lukewarm, unpleasant experience when raw fish is supposed to be consumed cold. White rice is plain rice, not sushi rice. Rice also smells old... Spicy mayo looks and tastes like plain mayo... Do not recommend. I will stick to my usual poke spot in LB. read more

Ordered a build your own bowl through Uber eats & was surprised that the amount of food you get is pretty decent! However, I did order the spicy mayo sauce mixed in and I'm not that big of a fan of spice that's over mild but this sauce was a lil too bland for me. It was more mayo than any sriracha or spice in it! That's the only thing that didn't do well with my order, everything else was decent. read more

Personally, I was iffy reading the reviews because some were talking about the small portion and bad food but personally it was really good and a pleasant meal to satisfy my craving. Don't expect to only spend 15+ if you want a good portion though I spent 26$ to get this bowl and it didn't disappoint they also gave me the sauce and extras I had paid for, but overall it was a great experience ordering from this place and it really makes me grateful it was open late to satisfy a craving. I would definitely order from this place if you want some good poke to eat but it really depends on you and what you order maybe because of the portion size but the amount of fish was good enough, other scoops were portioned good and the sauce was separate also having the rice apart from it helps! I ordered lunch while at work through Grubhub today at this location and got food poisoning :( about 45 minutes, or a little longer after I had only eaten half of my bowl I rushed myself to the restroom and vomited. I ended up vomiting a couple times more and leaving work because of it. I have never had food poisoning hit me this quickly, and I know it was this because I hadn't had anything to eat until this around 2 pm. Still feeling like crap from it. Excellent packaging. The bowl is nice and big portions. The sticker Hippo holding on to the bowl is so funny lol Let talk about food. I like the Supreme bowl. It has lemon slices, jalapeño, and other stuff in it. It's a good combination of sweet, sour, spicy, and the smell of the oil. I also got the fried banana, it's so crispy and the banana is on point. Ordered the Supreme Bowl from Hippo Poke via Uber Eats and I was disappointed that my order wasn't correct. I asked for half white rice and half organic salad yet there was no organic salad. This was my first time trying them and I may or may not come back to order. Plus, after eating the bowl I am still hungry and that's not a good thing. The reason why I ordered through Uber eats was so I didn't have to cook because I didn't feel like it tonight, but I think I might have to now. I ordered the 2 scoop regular bowl for lunch and pretty much inhaled it...it was delicious and the ingredients were fresh and flavorful.

Got the medium bowl, with 2 protein options. Had shrimp and salmon. Added the house sauce and spicy Mayo. The flavor was really good, but the portion size really lacked, especially For the price. They give you LOTS of rice, but little ingredients. I had to eat most of my rice first to savor the protein, which sucked. This is also the first time I finished an entire poke bowl! Lol.. and I'm still hungry! . I also wish they had an at least 3 sauce max, but you only get to choose one and after that it's $1.25 for each. Really good flavor, but prob won't be back :( read more
