Been coming here for a while now and I still think throughout all the years this is one of the best poke places in Long Beach. You wouldn't expect this nonchalant little shop on the westside of Long Beach to have some authentic poke and Hawaiian food but you have to try this place if you haven't! Don't come expecting the type of Poke bowl where you choose a fish and they mix it with sauce and toppings--this is is that authentic poke where the fish sits and marinates in a flavorful sauce, then served on its own with rice. But, this is as authentic as it gets compared to what you can get in Hawaii! The prices are pretty good especially considering how much fish you get in a serving and how much prices have gone up with everything lately. Parking is never a problem as this plaza doesn't get too busy. The couple inside are super nice, like visiting your grandparents! Great service. The food should come out pretty quickly if you're getting poke since they just have to scoop it up with some rice. There's a bunch of different flavors but don't be fooled, even if they don't have it in the fridge in front of the sign on the display, they still have some more in the back--just ask. Limu is definitely one of my fav flavors to get when I'm here--simple but delicious and savory. Their spam musubi is really good as well, the rice is super flavorful and has a sauce dispersed throughout. Fresh poke for a decent price! I got a salmon poke bowl with two flavors and seaweed salad ($1 extra!). The salmon itself was really good and fresh. I got the spicy mayo which was creamy and had onion, and I can't remember the other flavor but it was also really good and probably my favorite of the two! My only complaint was I needed more rice for all the salmon lol. At first I thought it wasn't enough salmon but I was quickly proven wrong! The service was also really good and our bowls came out fast. The cashier, which I'm assuming is also the owner or the wife of the owner, was really nice! Nice ambiance inside, felt like a hole in the wall place. They had a good variety of poke flavors to choose from. I decided to get two flavors which came with rice. I'm a food snob and love a good value meal. I'll always judge a meal based on price point. This is probably my favorite place to eat in Long Beach and one of my favorite ways to spend $15. I get the platter with two types of poke, rice, and seaweed salad. The poke flavors I get are Wasabi ahi and sweet & spicy salmon. I almost always get this dish, and I've eaten here probably two dozen times in the last year. Poke Plus gets a 10/10 for me. The owner is very friendly but watch out, she always tries to upsell you. **During Quarantine Review: March 2021** This shop was right down the street from where I got my vaccine, so I thought I'd give them a try. Currently, they're take-out only and no public restrooms. The cashier wore a mask and all who enter must as well. When I came in I saw the various pre-made poke in the display case and the menu up top. Patrons can select from various bowl options, but I just wanted fish and no rice lol. On my visit they had all the poke flavors available: Oyster sauce, Hawaiian Limu, Fresh Ginger, Kimchee Sauce Wasabi, Spicy Mayo, Basic Spicy, and Sweet and Spicy. You can order by the 1/2 lb or full lb. If it's Ahi Poke it's $14 a lb. Other seafood can go up to $17 a lb. I also decided to grab a large seaweed container ($3.95) as well. The poke is a tad salty, but that could be because I didn't eat it with rice and that it's also authentic Hawaiian poke, which from my understanding Hawaiian's consider salt a food group so this is exactly how's it's suppose to taste. If you are looking for the closest to authentic Hawaiian Poke outside of Hawaii, then go to the city of Long Beach and surf on into Poke Plus, a filipino owned establishment where you can find a selection of Poke that will poke your taste buds! I ordered the Kamaaina plate which consisted of kalua pork, lau lau, scoop of rice, and a choice of Poke. I chose the Hawaiian Limo which was close to authentic as you can get in these parts. My husband ordered the plate which also had kalua pork and a scoop of rice, and chicken adobo. His combo plate also came with Poke which he chose the sweet & spicy. We also ordered the Islander breakfast meal which was beef tapa with 2 over easy eggs and rice. We both agreed that our kalua pork was a little dry and that the scoop of rice would have been better if there were 2 scoops of rice. My lau lau was cooked well with the taro leaves and wrapped in the banana leaf for extra steaminess. The beef tapa looked more like chunks of beef versus what I am used to seeing for a Filipino beef tapa which I prefer more pounded meat or flattened out slices of beef. The flavor of the tapa was meaty and required the complimentary vinegar sauce to bring out the flavor of the beef. My favorite parts of the meal were the Poke and the Lau Lau. Half star off for the Poke being a small portion which looked like it was placed in a plastic condiment container. Another half star off for this place only being a pick-up/to go spot, good enough we didn't live too far from this place, but it would have been nice to enjoy the food inside the establishment, however the parking was a small lot.
