Local Poké place next to a boba place. We ordered a make your own and took it home. The cubes of fish were really small. The flavors were lacking. The overall portion size was too heavy on rice. I guess we needed to order the larger option with more scoops. It also took a while to make when nobody else was there. Maybe just a bad day. read more

Having unagi as a protein options is unique to this location as opposed to others Poke spots in San Diego. Lots of options to build your own bowl with the usually added charge for a few ingredients like avocado or masago. The unagi takes a couple of extra minutes due to it being grilled but the bowl creation was fast. Lots of cool graffiti in the shop and 15 parking zones up front making it easy to get in and out for a quick meal. read more

Didn't like my experince there last week. The best is the beautiful mural, it is amazing. Kudos to the artist. Food wise, it was not the best poke I have had. In fact it was mostly rice and a bit of fish. Not worth the price. The guys working there seemed to be very friendly...among them. However the kitchen was very loudly having a very gross conversation about pooping and vomiting that should not take place at any cost in a restaurant where people are sitting and eating. It looked more like a fraternity or something than a professional place to work. I have to say I told the guy talking loud about the story of his friend having ginormous vomit to please stop as I could not avoid listening to the whole conversation and was grossing me out. There was no malice in their conversation but the business owner needs to training the staff so they talk about more light topics. I will not go back. read more

Came in for a quick bite to pick up. Their menu is super simple to understand and place an order. And they also have already put together bowls on their menu too. I got salmon and krab, and while I realize you can pick up to 3 proteins, I only wanted salmon and krab but I didn't really get a lot of salmon.. but nonetheless the bowl was really good. I finally enjoyed poke after multiple failed attempts before!! First time trying (elsewhere) had way too much sauce, which felt mushy & gross in texture. My next few attempts were flavorless. So, I refused to eat poke for years & finally gave it another try because my bf loves this place. I kept my order simple with soy sauce & sriracha, my favorite proteins, & just a few toppings. It was quite nice! I didn't realize that the large meant you get 5 proteins instead of 3, so that might be on my wishlist next time. I could've used a bit more sriracha, since it's the only sauce I can go heavy with, but there was a perfect amount of soy sauce. I was pleased. I ate inside, which was a nice setup. We were craving Poke, and I wanted to try somewhere other than Poke 1/2, which is close to our place, and I found this place on Yelp. I came here around 6 pm on Friday night, and it was basically empty but I would imagine they are busier during the week with college kids. They have small and large bowls and I ordered small, and my husband got the large bowl. You can do the add-on cucumber, furikake, etc , but seaweed salad and some other things were extra $. I had albacore, spicy tuna, and yellowtail. They tasted fresh and it was tasty. My husband was pretty happy with his choice too. I think it's better than the poke 1/2 which is just down the street as far as fish quality wise so we will come back again. read more

I love Pokedon! One of my favorite poke spots in San Diego! I love the fresh fish, Hamachi when I can get it, and salmon and Yellowtail are delicious. My go to order: large yellowtail/salmon bowl, crab, extra spicy tuna, seaweed salad, cucumber, furikake, edemame, avocado, sesame seeds, sesame oil, with aloha sauce, gochujjang, ponzu, on rice. Dennis is such a great business owner. I walked in for the first time and I felt very welcomed by him. He received my order and gave recommendations for sauces and toppings along the way which is great for a primarily build-your-own-bowl cuisine. Dennis himself and Michael whipped up a mean poke bowl with such amazing flavor. All the ingredients, including the salmon, tuna and krab which I had ordered tasted so fresh and satisfying. The place has a chill vibe to it as well. I saw a few board games and chess which indicates that friends love to come here and spend time together. This appears to be a great neighborhood gem which also caters to the tenants of the BLVD63 apartments. Dennis and Michael know what they're doing, and they're doing it well :). read more

While I can sense your sincerity with your business Dennis L, the point of my review was not simply 2 stars because you are expensive. I understand that certain products have increased but that is not to say that other poke locations have not been impacted by these price increases also. These spots are not "sell-outs", they simply have a price range that I find more affordable and reasonable for the quality and quantity received. For customers who still are interested, Dennis mentioned that "you can add more free toppings" and "mix your base [at] no charge". This is good to know because this was not listed on the menu and the transparency of such would be beneficial to all incoming customers. However, these bowls are not made in front of customers so this would be difficult to enforce. Those who grab their bowls for to-go or order for delivery would not have this option. While the gesture is nice, the ratio and distribution of toppings should be increased preemptively to cater to those who may not be able to "redo" their bowls in person. It's understandable that you had to raise prices for the first time in 6 years. I don't mind paying more for a bowl that made me feel filled and satisfied. But personally, a $4 increase from a small to large for 2.67 ounces of more poke seems too steep. Although you're "tired of people saying the food is awesome but leaving 1 or 2 star reviews", I'm not saying that--yet. Yes, the sauces were amazing, but everything else was average to subpar. The food could be awesome but it's not at the standard in which I can give it anything more. I wish you the best but this is where I stand unless there are changes or the intent to improve. read more

I've been a big fan of Pokedon ever since they opened in 2017. Their fish quality is always superb and fresh. The bowls have a great amount of fish and I really like how seaweed and cucumber salad come with the signature bowls. Their flavors for their bowls are something you can't get from the cafeteria-line type places, which is why I love coming here whenever I get the chance ~when i'm in the area~ so being able to come here and support local is always a great feeling. The staff is always so friendly and the owner (Dennis) is always so great to customers. We were excited to try due to reviews and wanting to try new places, but it was not great. My husband ordered and i ordered separately, place was not busy but it seemed like the employees were all just goofing around and we waited 30mins. Our bowls were clearly made differently when it came to ratios of proteins, rice, toppings and dressings. I had 2 small pieces of salmon and little amounts of other selections. It seemed a bit pricey for what was received. I've had better poke experiences elsewhere. The place can easily be passed as it's on the Main Street. Also one thing that I don't like about this poke place is that you can't see them make the bowl as they go. You order everything up front and pay, then they make it. There's no "buffet" like window to watch as they go. It's a spot worth experiencing for yourself and make your own conclusions but I wasn't impressed. read more

I had a craving for poke, so I stopped by this little eatery last Friday. I got one of their signature bowls and created my own bowl as well. For my creation, I chose the yellowtail and albacore, which was on their specials of the day. I added cilantro, jalapenos, cucumbers, garlic, sesame seeds, and edamame for my toppings. For my sauce, I chose ponzu, lava sauce, and some sriracha, since I love everything spicy! Everything was put over their white sushi rice. As for the extras, I chose furikake, some seaweed salad, mango, and spicy pickled veggies. I really enjoyed my bowl a lot and loved the crunchy mango pieces incorporated into my bowl. It had a nice balance to all the different flavors and textures. I noticed that they offer quite a few unique toppings like cream cheese and pickled radish in case you're feeling adventurous and want something unique and different from the other poke places in town. My hubby had the Seoul bowl, which had tuna, onion, cilantro, jalapeno, garlic edamame, cucumber, sesame oil, and their homemade gochu jiang. He usually doesn't care for poke, but enjoyed his bowl a lot! He said next time, he would prefer salad over the rice though. This is my favorite Poké shop! I am particular about my poké preparation. When my partner and I arrived at the establishments it had the familiar poké aroma that I am accustomed to. Not once has the restaurant smelled "off". When we order we are serviced by the same guy usually every time, and I appreciate that. He is friendly and gets our order right every time, and take his time making it perfect. I usually order the Small Create Your Own Bowl with white rice (today I made it half white rice and half spring mix salad), tuna, albacore, krab, green onion, corn, cilantro, cucumber, sesame seeds, edamame, avocado ($1.00 extra), ponzu sauce, miso mayo, furikake, and spicy mayo. It was delightful as usual! My partner ordered the Large Build Your Own Bowl white rice and spring mix salad, tuna, salmon, eel, masago, veggies, furikake, fried onions, fries garlic, sesame oil, ponzu sauce, lava sauce in the bowl and on the side. I was pretty disappointed with the "scoop" size. There were like two pieces of salmon and two pieces of shrimp and a couple yellowtail. Very sparse. My bowl was literally mostly rice and a few topping scattered on top to cover it. The quality was okay, but I will definitely not be returning. The price and quantity were not balanced. This is my second time to this location in 5 days. First I built my own bowl with basically all of the sides, sesame oil and spicy mayo. This time I selected a Tokyo bowl, a pre established masterpiece of ingredients. I added jalapeño to it just to be safe. The only problem with this bowl is that it is incredibly salty, but that is a fault of my own for selecting it, as it lists salt and soy sauce as ingredients. I love the ingredients here. All very fresh. The good thing about selecting a signature bowl is that they come with seaweed salad and cucumber salad. My goal is to just go down the line and try each one. Second try coming here. The first time they had just opened, I ordered a bowl and ended up waiting 35+ min because only one person was working and they had a bunch of to go orders. The bowl was alright, I can't remember it being anything out of the ordinary (and was craving a good bowl) so I decided to give it another try yesterday. It was 14.00 for a small bowl, the flavors of the sauces were good, but there was hardly ANY fish. The salmon was chopped into tiny pieces along with the tuna, and the bowl was mostly all rice with toppings thrown on. I understand supply chain issues and I understand up charging for inflation etc, but if I pay that much for a poke bowl, I'd at least expect a little more protein? I left hungry and dissatisfied, and since I've tried it now twice, I think I'm going to have to have to pass on a third time, and fulfill my poke cravings elsewhere. read more

This is the first time I eat at pokedon and I went to a small location on El Cajon Blvd and will say it's pretty impressive with the quality of food. I have been craving spicy tuna for 3 month and finally made it. I added spicy tuna, shrimp , white rice , avocado cucumber, and corn with spicy mayo. Delicious delicious delicious. Must try this spot out or any of their location highly recommended.
