The Ayumi roll, nice and spicy!
    Larry P.

Today I ordered the Ayumi roll, a scallop roll, both spicy, and some miso soup. These guys have the best sushi in this whole area, and their soups are better than anyone else's, they actually have something in the soup, a lot of something. It can't help but taste better because there are so much stuff in their soups. The service is always great, and you are greeted when you come in the door. Normally, it's nice and quiet, even when it's busy. I can't wait to come back for some of the best sushi you can find in the San Diego area.

Definitely recommend their popcorn green bean and yellowtail carpaccio. I wasn't a fan of their chicken wing I felt like there was lots of batter and not a lot of flavor. Salmon skin salad was good.

I've been wanting to try this place out since their opening and finally got a chance this weekend. It definitely did not disappoint. They serve Chinese and Japanese dishes although the only Chinese options we ordered was an appetizer and soups. The inside of the restaurant is fairly small but comfortable. We were seated right away and service was fairly fast. It's always nice when you're greeted with a smile and served delicious, fresh food. We were hungry and started out with some fried gyoza, wonton soup and hot and sour soup. We knew from the first bite, the rest of the food was going to be tasty. My hubby ordered "Leave it to the Chef" and I ordered "Ayumi Roll". Both were soooo good and we can't wait to try out the other ones. Plenty of parking and is easy to spot. The prices were reasonable and servings were plentiful.

Sushi dinner on a Sunday night, heck yeah! I was in the mood for sushi but not in the mood for the waitlists of Hillcrest, Mission Hills, North Park, etc. Plus I didn't want to drive far. This was a quick drive from our house and got great reviews, so why not! The dining room is moderate sized, about 6-8 tables, plus a bar with 3-4 seats at the counter, so you may still have to wait a little bit if they are super busy, but we got there before the rush and got right in. The menu is very diverse, but don't let it scare you, they do both Chinese food and Sushi with some asian fusion dishes as well. We stuck with the sushi but I definitely want to come back and try the Chinese food. The sushi was legit, quality and fresh ingredients and great flavor combos. We had 3 orders of rolls, a sake, and I had a glass of chardonnay. The wine is VERY reasonable here, $5.99 a glass! Those are happy hour prices ALL day long.. It's not a fancy glass of chard, but it paired perfectly with the sushi. Service was good, fast at first, slowed down a bit when they got busy but we never had to wait too long! The rolls were delicious, we had the Las Vegas roll, which was crunchy fried deliciousness, the jalapeño was on the top so if you wanted it less spicy you just took it off. I didn't think it was too spicy even with the topping. We also had the citrus and gold dust roll. The citrus roll was definitely zesty and spicy, for those who like spice! The gold dust roll was PERFECT, it was my favorite. It had a little crunch inside of it and it wasn't too spicy. Definitely will be reordering that one. All in all 5 stars here for the price, very affordable and delicious sushi!

We keep coming back. This time we ordered the Protein Roll, Las Vegas Roll, and California Roll, and the balance was perfect. The rice-to-filling ratio here is always spot on. We also got the salt and pepper boneless chicken (white meat), which was our second time ordering it. It was crispy, juicy, and tender. We paired it with the light fried rice on the side, it's just plain delicious. I like to add the toppings from the chicken and mix it with the fried rice.

I came here on Mother's Day, and even though it was busy, the service was still incredibly attentive. The staff kept checking in to see how the food was and whether we needed anything. The food was amazing, and we even received a lovely bouquet of flowers. Thank you for the kindness and dedication from the restaurant. I truly recommend everyone bring their family here for a wonderful dining experience.

This is a small restaurant filled with what looked like regular customers, all enjoying their meal... Always a good sign. I was greeted by friendly, polite staff and guided through their quite extensive menu. I ordered the "Leave It To The Chef," and the server thoughtfully asked if I was okay with spicy, which I am. That roll was really good. it had the perfect amount of spicy kick, nicely balanced with citrusy brightness and a touch of sweetness. Definitely a highlight. I also tried the baked scallops roll. It was okay, but it had a bit too much spicy imitation crab for my taste, so I ended up setting most of it aside. Will I be back? Yes. I'd love to try some of their Chinese dishes, which the other customers seemed to be thoroughly enjoying. I was there yesterday and am already considering going back today.

    Sea Box
    Lien P.

It's really exciting when you find a sushi spot that offers sushi boxes with assorted rolls. The Sea Box at Ayumi met my expectations of my standard of a rolls only box! The main thing is that the filling of the rolls doesn't mostly contain imitation crab! This review only applies to the Sea Box because I haven't tried anything dishes from them but I'm eager now, to try their different menu items, especially the Chinese food. I ordered the box a day prior to be picked up at a certain time and when I got there, the box was ready and service was quick. Staff were friendly as well. I'd definitely come back for their assorted sushi boxes!

Drove all the way from north county to try out Ayumi. My son said the drive was worth it because the sushi was solid!!! Upon arrival we were promptly welcomed and seated. The service was excellent from order taking, to serving our dishes. The sushi was fresh. Another plus for me is they have a boba menu!! Please consider opening a location in north county. Definitely recommend!! You will enjoy the variety dishes they offer.

Our absolute favorite place to get red thai tea! And their prices are very reasonable. They have Japanese and Chinese food along with some great specials. I usually order thru Uber eats for pickup and there usually is some sort of special or free item with a purchase. I've had the wings which were very good, their garlic combo with shrimp chicken and beef is our go to. I love the lemon roll sushi. My fave here. Very friendly service, It's small inside and does get busy for dinner but like I said - check em out to go! Oh and I saw on IG they have these appetizer boxes that look great for taking to a party. Def going to order in the future.

We've heard so much about Ayumi, we had to come try it out. We arrived at the restaurant, it is located in a large shopping center with plenty of parking. We walked in and were greeted by two lovely ladies who were both welcoming. The restaurant is a bit on the smaller end but it was pretty empty when we were there. They seem to get alot of pickup orders. Their menu is huge, which includes many sushi options and chinese food options. My husband ordered the Adam and Eve roll, a spicy Hamachi roll, and a coke. I ordered a California Maki roll and orange chicken rice bowl with fried rice and root beer. The server brought out two cups full of ice, with one can of coke and a can of root beer with two straws. I do prefer fountain drinks over canned drinks, but it was alright. Our sushi rolls were out fairly quickly. My california Maki sushi roll tasted fresh and simple. My husband loved his Adam and eve roll, he said it was very flavorful and fresh. My orange chicken bowl was delicious, i did share a few bites with my husband abd he agreed that it was very tasty. You do get alot of chicken and rice in the rice bowl and for a great price, I even had to bring half of it home to eat later. I have a feeling we will definitely be back to Ayumi to try more items on their menu.

Ayumi is a newly opened eatery in the Spring Valley neighborhood offering a variety of Chinese and Japanese items. It replaced a former pho restaurant in the Casa de Oro Shopping Center. The dining area featured four spots at the sushi bar and several tables that could altogether hold about 40 customers. Parking was no issue at all as the common plaza lot had plenty of spaces. The menu booklet was several pages long, and I didn't have the energy to capture each one as a separate photo. What struck me was the pricing as the costs seemed to be on par, or even on the low side, compared to the competition. I selected two of the special maki rolls for dine in and an order of the assorted lo mein for takeout. The rolls I chose were the Gold Dust Roll and the Hamachi Heaven Roll. The first consisted of salmon and cucumber on the inside with seared salmon, masago, spicy mayo, and chili oil on the outside. The heat from the chili oil made me gulp some ice water to cool off a bit. The second was made up of hamachi, avocado, and cucumber on the inside topped with seared hamachi, chopped jalapeno & cilantro, and spicy mayo-eel sauce. This one had a sweeter taste profile, however the fish quality for both rolls were good. The lo mein contained beef, chicken, and shrimp as proteins. It cost $12.95 as did all of the other varieties of lo mein. Normally, shrimp comes as a dollar or two extra but not here. The family who runs this place was very friendly and on point with their service. I enjoyed my dining experience at Ayumi enough to give it a four star rating.

Recently, I brought my father and my boyfriend for his first visit, expecting the same quality experience I had enjoyed for years. Unfortunately, this visit was extremely disappointing. The menu has been significantly reduced, offering only a limited selection of options, while prices have increased substantially. I ordered the half chicken with brisket as my additional side for $38. When my meal arrived, I received only two pieces of chicken and a single piece of brisket. Upon cutting into the chicken, I noticed blood on the plate and the meat appeared pink. As I am currently pregnant, I did not feel comfortable eating it and asked our server if the chicken could be cooked longer. Instead, the manager came to the table holding my plate and explained that the chicken had been checked with a thermometer and was safe to eat. When I expressed my concerns regarding my pregnancy, he rolled his eyes and told me to choose something else rather than offering to cook the chicken further. I then asked if I could receive additional brisket since I was no longer comfortable eating the chicken. The manager responded, "That will cost more," and walked away. When my replacement arrived, I was served only two very small pieces of brisket and was charged extra for them. I am genuinely shocked by the lack of professionalism and customer service from the management team. Combined with the increased prices and noticeably smaller portions, the overall value simply is not there anymore. For longtime loyal customers, this experience was especially disappointing. After sharing my experience with family and friends, several decided not to visit, and unfortunately, I will not be returning either. The quality, portion sizes, and customer service no longer justify the cost. If you are looking for both quality and value, I would recommend considering other options.
