    Gettin' my poké on.
    Justin V.

I'm not sure why I haven't written a review for Poketastic. They've been my go-to spot for poke since 757 Poke is no longer at Pembroke Mall (well, I don't work near Pembroke anymore - that's the real issue, besides the fact that Pembroke Mall kicked everyone out). I can rely on them because they're consistent with fresh and tasty ingredients, and their customer service is excellent. I originally noticed those qualities when I tried out their Battlefield Blvd location back in early 2019 (I probably should review that one, too), so I'm glad those qualities migrated to the Norfolk location. Anyways, the Poketastic at the Outlets is convenient for me - I can get a tasty bowl with anything I want, and I can pick it up otw to or from work. When COVID shut everyone down, I was able to rely on Poketastic for curbside service, which came in handy then and is an excellent option now since I've been working from home for the last 2 years. With their app, it's even easier for me to place my order and it's always ready for me when I stop in for pickup. I really would love to try out some other poke spots, because I love variety, but Poketastic has done so well for me. Unless another poke spot opens up... like next door, I'll will be picking up my poke from Poketastic. Thank you! JV

Tried this place while I was visiting in Norfolk VA. Specialty bowls available or you can build your own (2,4,6 proteins). A large variety of additions and toppings. My bowl items were fresh and very delicious. The eating area is very clean. The rest room was very clean. Staff was courteous and assured me with my questions and had a few recommendations for me. Place to visit and eat. I will come back to get another Sushi bowl.

We typically go to the Poketastic in Chesapeake, which is a family favorite. The service is outstanding and they make the bowls just the way you like them. We were over here tonight and thought we'd have a similar experience, but I'm sadly disappointed in the overall experience. Upon entering the building, it was fishy smelling, which anyone who eats raw fish knows, isn't the norm. I was greeted by a girl with a very lackluster demeanor. I couldn't hear her speaking at all, she refused even a hint of a smile and didn't even respond when I asked her how she was. While my bowl was okay, she messed up the sauces and didn't mix my fish choices the same way as the other location. Her lack of enthusiasm poisoned my entire experience here and I can safely say, I won't return. I'll stick with my location in Chesapeake. Food: 7 Service: -5 Ambiance: 2

This place has done quite a bit of work to make sure they stay up to date with covid protocol. I sincerely appreciate it. I was honestly a bit confused with the menu at first but the staff were super friendly to make it all happen. It's a bit dangerous for me to eat at places like this because I have a shellfish allergy. However, the wife was feeling it and we went for it. I went for a mix of food with chicken and tuna. I really enjoyed the chicken but the tuna wasn't all that great. Next time I come here, I'll be sure to double down on the chicken because it was really that good. Overall, I do like how clean the place was, the staff, and most of the food. It was a tad pricey but I know for a fact that we'll come back for more. I can really appreciate the measures taken during the pandemic to keep everyone safe. Ordering ahead is one that I hope stays in place once conditions improve. Located in the Norfolk Premium Outlets, this is one of a few Poketastic locations. The quality, pricing and customer service between the various locations is consistent. Portions are filling and fresh. Sign up for their emails and get codes for discounts on your order. Orders can be phoned in or using the Chow Now feature to place your order. It's almost a sure fire way to ensure they hear you and give you what you want. Parking is generous and shared with some neighboring businesses but isn't a hassle at all. A clean and orderly interior with pleasant decor. Military discounts are available when ordering in person but not via the app. Remember to tip for great service! I'd definitely return and can refer this business to others.

I was looking for some good food that isn't greasy fast food. I saw Poketastic on Yelp and decided to check it out. That was a great decision! I got the toasted salmon bowl over white rice. There's a disclaimer saying it takes about 10 minutes for the toasted bowl. It's worth the wait, the salmon was delicious! I asked to add seaweed salad to my bowl because I love it. The mango in the bowl was so ripe and juicy. I need to know their secret! I liked that the rice stuck together a bit. It was easier to get with chopsticks. All the food looked super fresh, too! I'd definitely return again.

First visit was amazing!!!! So excited to have a good poke place in the Norfolk area. Because the reviews for the Chesapeake location were so good, I couldn't wait to try this new location. There are a lot of options! On top of the various proteins offered, one can have any of the protein toasted. It does take an additional 7 minutes. I love that tamago aka Japanese egg is an option. Since quarantine, we have ordered online curbside twice from this location. I love online ordering. It allows me to take my time, analyze & pick from the extensive menu offerings. The flavors and quality of all the bowls have been consistently delicious! Customer service and accuracy of our orders outstanding. Keep it up Poketastic. Can't wait to dine-in again! Note: I have never been to HI so have no idea what a poke from HI is. Whatever Poketastic is making is delicious regardless!

Poketastic is definitely my favorite place in Hampton Roads. I've been to their Chesapeake location numerous times and I was very thrilled to find out that they opened this location near the outlets. Although their Chesapeake location is closer to my house, this location is about 10 minutes away from work so it's perfect when I crave for poke during lunch times. Their Norfolk location is similar to their Chesapeake location. You can some familiar faces from Chesapeake. With that in mind, you already know that you will get good customer services. The staffs are very friendly and will go above and beyond with their customer services. The restaurant is clean. Compared to their other location, this location is more spacious, which means there's more seats if you prefer to dine in (preferably after this pandemic). I was also glad to find that they have a soda machine inside the restaurant. As for the food, you can find the same quality of poke. The protein and toppings are exactly the same as the one in Chesapeake. Some of the choices for protein are salmon, tuna, shrimp, spicy salmon/tuna, yellow tail, and tofu. Compared to other poke places in town, they offer a lot of toppings. My favorite are the crab salad, seaweed salad and the carrots. I am glad that they offer carrots because most of the poke places in town do not have that. Their servings are huge, but make sure to mention if you want less or a lot of base. They also have a lot of selection for the sauces. My typical bowl consists of white rice as my base, shrimp (double or triple depending if I am getting small or medium) as my protein, and for the toppings, I usually get carrots, seaweed salad, onions, fried onions, garlic, sesame seeds, and furikake. For the sauces, I get ponzu, sesame oil, and siracha on the protein and spicy mayo, eel sauce, and sesame oil on the top. My SO gets almost the same thing except he gets tuna and salmon for protein. I will most likely to be back for lunch (when this pandemic is over) since I always crave for poke every week.

    Everything but salmon PIECES
    Mitaina M.

I love poke and not pleased with how the size of the salmon PIECES were. They cut it up where it ended up smaller than the edamame Just not the poke bowl you want and hope to dig into. Too much rice, ran out of spring mix, they had other choice but I didn't come for a salad. Just not what poke is. Missed me and won't be coming back.

The food was thoroughly pleasing during my lunch break at work. The flavors melded together pretty well and the ingredients were seemingly fresh. The rice was hot but it didn't really seem to fit with the rest in my opinion. Overall this is a great lunch and maybe even make a great dinner spot as well. The cashier made my bowl with extreme quickness and greeted me with a big smile when I came in. My only complaint is I came back to the counter to give her a tip personally and she never came back to the front of the shop. When I went there was nobody in the restaurant so that was nice. I liked the windows and all of the natural light accents of the shop. The chairs and tables seem sturdy and they did not rock back and forth. The temperature was just right but the unit they have will blow your food away and it is kind of loud. Overall great place to get a quick bite especially for lunch.

SKIP Kotobuki in Norfolk - Worst Sushi Experience EVER…read more Kotobuki in Ghent is a disaster. I gave this long-running spot a second chance, after a poor first experience, and it was a mistake. A friend insisted we return, and the service was shockingly bad, the sushi was subpar and the overall experience was the worst. From the moment you walk in, Kotobuki screams neglect: dead plants, servers dressed like they're doing yard work and a pervasive smell of old fry oil. We had reservations for the "traditional Japanese" sunken-table room, where we removed our shoes and climbed into our seats. One dirty pair of slippers sat at our table, while a random pair of construction boots lay abandoned nearby. The "ambiance" was completed by 70s soft rock -- Lionel Richie instead of "traditional Japanese" music. Our server took my order for a dirty Stoli martini, then disappeared for an absurd amount of time only to return and say they couldn't make it -- with no explanation. We hunted through the limited menu while our server vanished completely. The owner eventually stopped by, and I had to specifically request a sushi list. Tired of sitting cross-legged, I briefly put my feet into the pit under the table. Rather than place my bare feet on the filthy floor, I slipped my shoes back on for a moment. That's when the owner's daughter stormed over and aggressively accused me of saying, "Screw you and screw Kotobuki -- I'm not following the rules!" She launched into a rude, insulting lecture about "Japanese custom" while I sat there stunned. I immediately took my shoes off again, just to de-escalate, but the evening was ruined. No customer should be verbally assaulted over something as basic as not wanting bare feet on an obviously dirty floor. In an awkward position, not wanting to ruin the evening, I ordered my food. The sake was watery and flavorless, the house salad was sad, wilted iceberg lettuce drowning in bottled ginger dressing, and the sushi arrived lukewarm with questionable rice that called for a palate blinding amount of wasabi. It was boring, poorly prepared, and far below average. This was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Hand to God! Had this not been a special evening with a dear friend, I would have walked out the second the owner's daughter chastised me at the table. Management at Kotobuki clearly doesn't care about customer service or basic standards -- especially when family members are allowed to treat patrons this way. "Japanese tradition" doesn't excuse poor hygiene, rude staff or substandard food. In America, we have health codes for a reason. If you want decent sushi in Norfolk, go literally anywhere else. Kotobuki is just a lazy dive. There's nothing special on the menu, very little sushi selection and nobody seems to care. If you choose to ignore this warning, lower your expectations folks, you are about to be disappointed. The only thing good about this restaurant, is the opportunity to tell you how much it sucked.

However, we were given the regular menu. I just assumed maybe it was no longer AYCE. We asked a server walking by and she did inform us there were 2 menu options. She brought us the AYCE menu. I think when we were greeted we should've been asked which menu we'd like or at least given both. Anyway, I had a house salad, a shrimp tempura roll, the Ginza roll, a volcano roll, and the seafood fried rice. I also tried my sisters salmon skin roll. I really like their ginger dressing on the house salad compared to other restaurants. The Ginza roll is a cooked salmon roll with cucumber. I really liked it. However, if you prefer something a little less fishy tasting with some crunch, I'd recommend the salmon skin roll. It has a light salmon taste since there isn't much actual salmon in it. I did not like the volcano roll at all. It was really mushy and something was just off about it. The fried rice was really good BUT I don't like that the menu says it comes with "crab" when really it's imitation crab meat. The shrimp in it are huge tho and the rice itself is really flavorful. Overall, we had a good experience. Everything was fresh and came out fast. Our server was on top of it even tho she talked entirely too fast and I barely got anything she was actually saying! The restaurant itself is a nice vibe and super spacious. It could definitely be a good spot for a large party. $26.99 isn't bad at all for AYCE. I'd definitely visit again. Oh yea - If you pay with a credit card, don't forget to get it out of the holder. Their holders don't have the little slot up top where your card sticks out. It was placed behind my receipt copies when handed back to me, and I ended up forgetting to grab it. Had to go back and get it today. They did still have it and there weren't any unauthorized charges on it or anything!

Coming from Asia, I know exactly what traditional, high-quality Japanese and Asian food should taste like, and this place falls short on almost every level. To put it bluntly: if a restaurant like Volcano opened in China, it would have gone out of business a long time ago. The food is simply not authentic, not fresh, and not that great. The Rice Trap: They load you up with an insane amount of rice. It honestly feels like they are trying to cheap out and stuff you full of heavy carbs rather than letting you enjoy the actual fish or ingredients. The "Americanized" Pandemic: This place suffers from a common issue found in many Asian fusion spots across the US--it's heavily Americanized. It loses all the traditional, delicate flavors of real Japanese cuisine. Ambiance & Noise: The restaurant is always way too loud. As for the decor, it tries to mimic a Japanese style but fails to capture that clean, elegant, and serene vibe. Instead, it just feels like your generic, slightly greasy American-Asian diner. If you are someone who has never had real Asian food and just wants to try something generic for the first time, it might pass. But if you're looking for a genuine, high-quality traditional dining experience, or want to treat your friends to a nice meal? This isn't the spot. It's just not worth the value.
