It was so delicious I was shocked. My only comment is the curry was a bit heavy on salt but otherwise delicious. I always enjoyed this place but have not gone back since they started displaying a "C" health inspection grade in their window. It has been up there quite a while at this point and I find their lack of interest in getting reinspected concerning. Great Indian food with incredible free delivery! The butter chicken was great and was just the right portion for a hungry man. The chicken tiki masala was also equally good and was equally portioned. Yay! Yet another great find in El Barrio! Great prices, fast delivery and amazingly flavorful Indian cuisine. I have been dying to find an Indian restaurant in my neighborhood and I had no idea about this place. Based on a recommendation from a fellow Yelper and El Barrio resident (thanks Brian T.!) I decided to try this place out. I was not disappointed. I ordered the lamb saag which comes with rice (I don't eat rice so I can't report on how that tasted) and dal. OOOh the flavors! I got mine spicy and they did not skimp on that! Huge portions and I still have left overs! Tastes even better the next day. I also ordered beef filled somosas. Yummy! My tummy has a new best friend! I mean the food was supposed to be spicy and yeaaa, so was not spicy at all. Then to top it all off as we were waiting to pay the check in the absolutely empty location these two guys walk out of the kitchen with empty paint buckets that had raw meat and chicken. Polash is great! I order delivery from time to time, and Polash is fast, and they take cards. As the others say, prices and serving size is reasonable. The food is high quality, not greasy - in my book Polash is a win. I have ordered all sorts of things, and it's all delicious. They have a wide variety of Naan (e.g. plain, with minced lamb, or dried fruits) but I really loved the various kulchas. I highly recommend Paswari Naan, and the onion kulcha. With a so many choices (including fish, vegetarian, crab, lamb and goat) - I try my best to order different things each time, but I notice that me and my significant ordering the Lamb or Goat Rogan Josh and Kashmiri Lamb more consistently than other dishes. Polash also serves Chicken Tikka Masala, but I think you're better of ordering something different because there are dishes served here that I haven't seen at other places. I don't think Tikka Masala should be the point of comparison between Indian restaurants because I have eaten Tikka Masala in both the US and UK (England and Scotland) and honestly, it tastes different wherever I am. That said, even though I don't know know exactly how it *should* taste, I still enjoyed it from Polash. I haven't been to the restaurant for a sit-down meal, but hope to in the near future. Two Good Words: Absolute Gem Two Bad Words: (None to be said here) This restauraunt is literally 2 seconds from my house, and I'm a little afraid of that because of how good the food is. This restauraunt has been in harlem for almost two years now, and I have to say that it is a diamond in the rough neighborhood that it is in. First, the decor is phenomenal, the napkin setup with the glasses is really classy, and they offer you three sauces that are amazing with every meal, as well as lentil soup. I am absolutely in love with their menu, because aside from it being delicious, there is such a variety, and so many main dishes to choose from at very modest prices. I really love their mango lassi tea to drink, and their lamb dishes are phenomenal. The service at this place is great, and the owners are really friendly as well. I love to go here, order a new dish I haven't tried before, and get some reading done. I reccomend this place so highly, and if I had enough bandwith I'd write eighty billion more yelps with the same rating. Go to this place, and support this wonderful local buisiness, because they do a great job, and deliver food that could be served in midtown or soho, at way better prices and with way better staff. read more

For the area this is decent Indian food, but it certainly is not authentic. They deliver quickly and always get the correct order and the portions are large enough for left overs. The restaurant itself is very clean and the waiters are friendly. I think the best bargain is getting there for the lunch buffet! The chicken tikka is good, the samosas and biriyani are meh. I've eaten here several times because its across my campus. The food is decent but I find it to be overly salty. Last week I went for the lunch buffet (now $8.95) right at noon when they open and was surprised to see that the buffet was already set up and ready to go. The tandoori chicken wasn't dry and did not show evidence that it was reheated leftovers. Great place to go for food to be served quickly. I enjoyed the beef curry and the dish with chickpea and spinach. There is a delicious yogurt sauce that you could serve with your rice/naan. Don't overlook it! read more

I'm so happy to have discovered good Indian (Bangladeshi) food in Harlem. It looks like a nice, clean restaurant; however, I had already ordered carry out. I was a bit concerned, when I arrived and the place was empty. I ordered vegetable pakora (onion fritters), mushroom saag and poori. The food was fresh...even the mushrooms, which are often canned. The poori was sweeter than I've had in other restaurants. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal and the prices were reasonable. Note: (Most "Indian" restaurants in NYC are run by Bangladeshi. We love Polash and so those evry1 we have put up on it. Restaurants in Spanish Harlem are hard to come by so when Polash opened almost a year ago we had to go. They did not spend a bundle in the decor but i guess they did on the chef. We pray every day that they don't close down since every time i walk by is empty so i am guessing they get alot of delivery orders which is what we do. I think i have tried everything on the menu and would recommend everything plus they get me my food in less than 20 minutes....Visit them or place a delivery order its good having something other than Latin food which we love but sometimes we need a change. read more

Polash is a great restaurant, which I've gone to twice for brunch, and several times for takeout. The prices are standard for Indian. It's a little more expensive than the bulk of Mexican places in the neighborhood, but cheaper than higher end venues like Agua Fresca and Bistro 118. The food itself is great and always comes out quick. The restaurant itself can sometimes be a little empty, especially during weekend brunch, but it's a great value. That being said, I have seen this place packed a few times, and hopefully the new school of social work across the street and other developments will keep this fantastic mid-range option--and East Harlem's only Indian place--alive! read more

This is my first Yelp post, but I felt compelled. This place has consistently been awesome for the past 4 years. A few anecdotes... We once ordered 6 or so soups and they forgot one in the delivery, they not only were willing to send the guy out again over a $2.50 delivery, but when I said it's OK, next delivery, they reminded me on a subsequent order weeks later about the soup I was owed. My husband forgot a bottle of Zegerid (acid reflux over the counter medicine) at the table. We came back weeks later and they gave us the bottle, when we didn't even know we forgot it. Had we payed with a credit card they probably would have tracked us down. Tonight, I ordered a bunch of odd ball items off the menu, things they had to make to order because I'm a pain in the butt, and it was at my door less than 30 minutes later. Polash is definitely a hidden gem in East Harlem. They provide the classics like chicken and beef curry, tandoori chicken amoung other common Indian dishes. I highly recommend you go during lunch time as their $8.99 buffett is the best value in the neighborhood and the food is really good. Try their banana pakoras, you will be hooked. You'd never guess how good this place is judging from how many people are inside- empty usually means shitty food but in this case empty means yummy! Polash makes some of the most authentic Indian food I've eaten in NYC. One of the biggest complaints I have about Indian restaurants in the city is that they dumb down their food and make it bland- as if American tastebuds can't handle the spicy multi-flavored combinations of legit Indian food. Not in Polash's case! Started off with their veggie samosa which was perfect- tasted authentic and not like it was from a frozen tv dinner . My boyfriend ordered the Tikka Masala which was really spicy, my mom got the Vegetable Kofta Curry which was good and I ordered the Vegetable Kofta Malai which was the bomb! Usually I get Palak Paneer or Chana Masala at Indian restaurants because they're my go-to safety dishes (your restaurant would really have to suck to make bad versions of these) but because I'd read the Yelp reviews about Polash decided to try the Kofta Malai. Sooo good! I had told the waiter to make it medium spicy but I didn't take any spice at all in my dish. Didn't matter though- the flavor combinations were so good that I didn't care that it wasn't spicy. The sauce was thick and creamy with a warm nuttty flavor. The vegetable balls were dense with mashed potatoes and whatever other veggies were in it. Definitely would recommend getting this dish! We were the only customers in the restaurant so the waiters definitely made sure they paid attentions to us. Service was great- they refilled our water glasses every couple of minutes- especially my boyfriend's because his dish was super spicy and he kept on chugging water. As soon as we were finished eating, my boyfriend only had to make a slight hand motion and the waiter came straight away to give us the check. Another thing I love about them is that they have soooo many menu options and a ton of vegetarian options. It's the kind of place where you'd keep coming back just to try out the different meals they offer. They're also cheap! Most entree's are under $10, and their naan and some appetizers are under $3! 2 samosas were $2.50= you don't get any better than that in NYC and the naan was only $2.99 read more

Great Indian food! They are super quick with delivery and their prices are pretty fair. My fave dishes are the Chicken Tikka Masala, the Aloo Mutter Ghobi is always delicious and of course their Samosas. Polash serves tasty Indian fare at a decent price. The restaurant is spare in terms of décor but the food is good as is the service. The real selling point is their delivery service. If you're in the neighborhood, you can get your order delivered within 20 minutes of placing your order- piping hot and ready to devour (even the Poori Bread hold up)! As Spanish Harlem continues to develop, I feel Polash is going to be a mainstay for those who want quality Indian food to eat in or take out, without having to venture downtown. read more
