    15. Tandoori Chicken
    Raeesa W.

We used to live in Harlem many years ago and during this time one of our favorite restaurants was Polash. My brother and I were OBSESSED with their Tandoori Chicken and Chicken Vindaloo. Fast forward to tonight and I'm back in the old neighborhood for a few days and of course I ordered dinner from Polash. I called the restaurant directly cause I'm old school like that and placed my order of the same items as we used to do circa 2008-2012. Within an hour my meal was delivered and even before I opened the bag the aroma of what I knew was going to be a delicious meal took me back to the times when my siblings and boyfriend (now husband) would order and eat together while watching the Bachelor or Lost. To my happy delight nothing about Polash has changed and I mean that in every good way as possible. Dinner was excellent and everything tasted just as I remembered, Excellent. Their service is always excellent and friendly. I'm not sure if they still do a lunch buffet in the weekends but we used to visit quite often and basically eat tandoori chicken. The restaurant itself is pretty big with a welcoming atmosphere. The best part besides the food is that they've maintained their prices as close if not the same as ten years ago. This place is truly an unexpected gem and should be on everyone's list for some delicious Indian food.

Vegetable samosa and Chicken Tikka with naan and rice
    Linda D.

Really good chicken tikka and vegetable samosas. They made it fresh and it was steaming hot when I grabbed my take out. I liked that the vegetable samosa filling was mixed with potato and peas and it was filled but wasn't super dense. The chicken was tender and the sauce was flavorful. The naan was soft and chewy. I'm definitely coming back for lunch again! I have to try the other dishes too.

Been wanting to try Indian food because my brother & boyfriend raves about it . Came here during lunch as it is located across the street from my school . Ordered from the regular menu. I had the butter chicken , which came with rice and a sauce . Ordered Naan bread which also came with a sauce . Ordered a pineapple juice . The food & drink was pretty good . Customer service was good . Place was clean . I will return and order from their lunch menu . Lunch menu includes a variety of item for an affordable price .

I was told on the phone that it was "a minimum of $50 for delivery." A bit absurd. Needless to say, I took my business elsewhere.

Yet, for some, the undiscovered remedy is Indian food. Not just any Indian food, but the kind that will make one swear off every last bit of water retained in the body while the brain forgets the hangover in attempts to fight over the insanity of the spice level ordered. Here comes Mughalai for the job. Lunch specials are excellent, offering a few courses to savor the flavors of this small establishment. Some of the best lamb vindaloo out there is found right here. Truly spectacular flavor alongside the intense spice. Wonderful samosas. Mulligatawny soup that does not disappoint. Mughlai is a casual spot that hits every parameter while delivering the kind of flavors that are hard to find outside of India.

Had we known, we would have chosen to dine elsewhere. Unfortunately, the service that followed was extremely disappointing. We felt rushed throughout the entire meal. The lights were turned on and off while we were dining, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere and making it clear that the staff wanted us out as quickly as possible. I barely had time to enjoy my dinner before feeling pressured to finish. To make matters worse, as we were preparing to leave, I went to use the restroom and was told by the manager that it was closed. Considering that I had just spent over $100 on dinner, I found that response both surprising and unacceptable. I work in the food and beverage industry, so I understand the challenges of restaurant operations and always try to be respectful and understanding. I was polite throughout the evening, yet I felt like I was treated as an inconvenience rather than a paying guest. To be fair, the food itself was excellent. However, great food cannot make up for poor hospitality. Based on my experience, I would not recommend dining at this location. The behavior of the staff was unacceptable and fell far below the standard of service I would expect from a professional restaurant.

Some folding tables and chairs on their patio (outdoor seating) and also tables inside. The restroom was quaint and clean! Perfecto! Our dine-in experience felt different than our take away experience. We had larger portions in person than take away (in my opinion) and it was easier to distinguish the dishes in person. All in all, both experiences were great - giving a 4 due to the website saying pickup in 30-40 minutes, but it was ready in like 10 minutes. When it arrived, it looked nothing like the real thing -- just Google what Paneer Makhani is supposed to look like. Most Indian restaurants in the U.S. (especially in the South, not NY) throw in a bit of color to make dishes look "Indian," but this one went all out. The dish had maybe five tiny pieces of paneer -- all bright pink, thanks to the food dye -- and that pretty much killed my mood and appetite. It tasted like pasta sauce mixed with sugar and a dash of regret. Honestly, you've probably got all the ingredients at home already, and since there's barely any paneer, you won't miss much by skipping this place. Save your money -- and your taste buds
