Polka is a quality Polish restaurant offering authentic polish foods in a cozy ambiance. Our family, including my Krakow-born, Polish-speaking and cuisine-discerning spouse, came to Polka on a Saturday evening. Disappointingly quiet, we entered the cozy restaurant adorned by newspaper clips, polish coats of arms, and were greeted by our friendly waiter. I had the meat patties ($24) which were delectable. Rich ground beef and pork spiced perfectly and fried with an accompanying gravy. Rich, but not greasy. My wife had the chicken schnitzel ($30) which was good but not groundbreaking, and the kids a number of perogis ($25) I found excellent. Accompanying the two adult meals was soup (a delectable tomato and a surprisingly sour savory pickle) and salad. We concluded with a delicious strawberry jam crepe ($15, see photo). The soup and meat paddies were the strongest entries on the menu that evening. The service was warm and genuine, taking our order, giving recommendations, communicating in polish as per our preference, and the restaurant was cozy and clean. Prices, as listed above, were reasonable considering the accompanying soup and salad. Overall, Polka is a solid restaurant with excellent food and service at a good price. Quiet neighborhood restaurant where you can chow down on some perogies. Got some boiled and some pan fried--both were nice but the pan fried edged out slightly with a little more flavor from the light caramelization on the outside. I wish there had been more caramelized onions to provide a more tasty contrast with the mild perogies. The highlight was the flaming cherries & cheese (it was cream cheese) crepe. Tasty and fun! Very cute spot. Great atmosphere and nice staff. I had the sampler platter with pierogis and vegetarian golabki. Pierogis were good. Growing up eating real, homemade golabki, the vegetarian did not compare and I would pass on it next time. I'm sure the regular golabki were better. The cabbage soup at the start was my favorite part of the meal. And the strawberry nalisniki for dessert. read more

I can't believe I haven't left a 5 star review.. we've been going here for 15 years at least. I love the meat, kraut, potato pierogis, my children beg for them! The pickle soup is also to die for.. another family favorite. We found it again in NYC at Veselka. This restaurant is truly a gem. It's a wonderful place to sit and relax with delicious cabbage. My youngest loves the stew and carrots! Sausages are incredibile too. It's not a fast moving restaurant and that's just the vibe. The parking lot can get dicey so I prefer the street! We dined at Polka only once, back in 2001 when it was relatively new at 7 years in business. It was good. As recently as 5 months ago they were still around but one day we were driving by and the name had changed! Surprising for sure. Been customers since Huel Hauser visited. We loved this place. I'm afraid the love has gone out the window, we ordered a $60 lunch for two, grizzley pieczen and a shrunken Royal plate. The boxes used are way too small, the naked cabbage roll sat next to ghoulasch, there was no tomato sauce to speak of and little cabbage. I'm guessing it's better to eat in, but am gun shy to try. My pierogi were ok as was the salad. The ( potato soup?) was nothing to rave about or enjoy, I guess I should be glad I got my sodium level raised. Polka, you will be dearly missed. My family and I had been going here for years. I remember this place from childhood, and we just celebrated my mother's birthday here in June. The food was delicious and comforting. Dining here felt like visiting your grandmother, who makes the best food in the world. We're at the Polka... I can't DO the Polka though... Wait Yes I can...!!! at least I THINK I can... which is half the battle won right there...! I'm gonna Polka till the cows come home...!!! With some take home Boiled Potato Cheese Pierogi Babey... Potato Cheese in the mix - boiled not fried - were very VERY tasty - and some of the best European style "ravioli" I've EVER tasted...they're not ravioli but if you've never had Pierogi here OR ANYWHERE... HAVE THEM...they're like a "ravioli"... they tasted home made with that fresh pasta dough boiled and with the potato and cheese combination filling inside; made it taste like a "gnocchi"and a "ravioli" combined ...LIKE NOTHING IVE EVER TASTED...I've had Pierogi in a Georgian restaurant... but these Polish style Pierogi were very different style and flavor... in Italian pasta terms...this was pure cuisine art... the sauce was a light onion veggie sautee for the pierogi so you really get to taste the home made quality of the pasta and the potato and cheese filling...which was something very unique and excellent... You get six regular sized (2 inch by 2 inch square sized ravioli/pierogi) "healthily" filled pierogi /ravioli per order; each filled with a lot of potato and cheese filling... and a tiny green salad; you also get a larger purple cabbage salad which was also very VERY superbly condimented...you get both salads with the 6 Pierogis order... both salads were very VERY TASTY just wish they were a bit larger serving size...especially for the purple cabbage salad...which I loved the taste of the light dressing very much...both salads tasted very fresh... Just one order of 6 Pierogis comes with 2 small Salads...and a not so small sized soup... The order also came with a medium sized potato "leek" soup that was absolutely delicious...not sure if that's what type of soup it was... but very tasty...a white potato veggie soup base ...but very tasty as well... Prepare to pay a bit more for better quality food... $24 for the order and no tip because it's take out - in THIS case... Eat in should make it about $30 per person with no dessert...and no drink...for a Pierogi experience... $40 maybe a bit more with a drink and dessert...per person But you won't need a dessert when you're done... because just one order can serve two people... Not cheap... but well worth it for an authentic Polish Pierogi experience.... I'm definitely coming back for a sit in experience soon and will venture on different styles of Pierogi fillings which they seemed to have many different types of.... Started off with potato soup and salad Schnitzel was nice and thin, cooked well, came with corn, broccoli, mashed potatoes and mushrooms gravy, royal came with hunters stew, cabbage roll, two perogis, veggies and potatoes. Saw this restaurant Polka on an old episode of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Had to finally check it out. The food here taste homemade and made with love. Nothing gourmet, but oh SO good! My least favorite thing here was the potato pierogi kinda bland; the meat filled pierogi was great, they were out of mushroom/sauerkraut - probably their best seller. The beef stew is a must. Can't decide? Go for the "Royal Plate" which has a little bit of everything. I'd return here again and again. Good food, service and cozy environment. read more

We got there for lunch and no one else was there. People did come later. We ordered the stuffed Cabbage roll to share and 6 pierogis so we could try more varieties plus an extra soup & salad. Name of the restaurant it's Polish the pictures of food appears to be Polish, but that's where it ends. Shame that Los Angeles doesn't have good Polish restaurant . The Polish pierogi are more like knedle not pirogi the pierogi are very thick, the meat inside it's more like dry out hamburger with no test. (looks good on the photos.) The bigos not sure what it is too much of a sweet cabbage can't even compare to any Polish version of Bigos‍ gołąbki‍ my goodness so much rice and the meat is tasteless somebody needs to go and teach those people. Ate here with a friend and his son. At the time, they had a choose any three dishes and pay per person for all you can eat of those three dishes. The food was outstanding. The service was excellent. We were hungry so we ate a lot of food that night. I don't think that they offer the all you can eat of three dishes for three people for a flat amount any more. If they did offer this we would probably be regulars. We have only been back once since the first time we went, and we did eat but the prices were pretty high. The quality is very good though if you are looking for authentic Polish food! We had the watrobka, the pierogi (cabbage and mushrooms), and the chrupiaca wieprzowina. All three we'd order again. The second time we went we tried the bigos and some pierogi. Again, both were excellent. The restaurant is a very classical setting - very elegantly done. I've loved this restaurant ever since Huell Howser did an episode on it. We use to come here about twice a month when the old owners were around. They would have their daughter sit at our table and eat with my daughter, it kept my daughter busy and occupied. I remember one time their 8 year old daughter whipped out a flute and started playing! She was such a talented little girl. I also miss how dark & cluttered the restaurant was, they had all these knick knacks everywhere making the restaurant feel super claustrophobic but homey at the same time. I remember walking in and they had a choo choo that smokes (does anyone remember that?) Now that the new owners took over, same family but recipes are slightly different. The potato and cheese pierogi used to be bursting with flavor, now they are bland. Still edible but the wow isn't there anymore. The hunters stew use to be more stewy, with tender beef. I've always opted for their main dishes & never cared for the frozen corn or carrots they offered as sides. The filling was solid, not super flavorful but it was good. The toppings are what make it. The portion is generous and super filling. Schnitzel: AN ABSOLUTE MUST TRY!!! We got pork and it was super thin and perfectly crispy. The mushrooms had so much flavor and the gravy on the side complimented everything perfectly. It was so perfectly fried and stayed crispy throughout our entire meal. Both items came with a soup of the day and a side salad. We got a really good pickle soup which tasted like a slightly sour potato chowder. The salad was good too and had some kind of sweet sesame dressing. Visited on a Saturday afternoon. My husband had the Royal Plate. Everything had great flavor but the cabbage roll was my favorite, just as good as my Hungarian mother-in-laws. Don't skip the crispy pork sandwich, so good. Lightly fried and delicious. Beet salad was a perfect accompaniment, as it's light and the beet flavor comes right through.
