I downloaded the Pollo Campero app and now I'm hooked! I've never heard of the place until the chain showed up in my neighborhood. They have the BEST flaky, buttery, flavorful chicken empanadas I've ever tasted in my life!!! The street corn, plantains and mango drink is pretty delicious too, I'm pretty sure the mango drink will give me diabetes, so I'd mix it with water. The staff is bilingual, friendly and quick. The dining area and bathroom is very clean and well kept. I took off a star, bc the news was on and it put a downer on such a cheerful environment :-/

Pretty awful meal from chicken dripping with grease to the sorriest dinner biscuit you ever saw in your life. I went home and deleted the app I just loaded.

This is a glimpse of the eating area. I'm on the other side, eating my order of Campero beans.

A jolly looking "pollo" mascot looks at the potential customers with a smile and a thumbs up. Alright, much more lively than the colonel. I know there's a good chance that I will be smiling as well once I'm done eating so inward I go. I walk in and I am already thinking: KFC and Boston Market, but from the west coast. I'm thinking New Mexico. As I look around, I see artwork that radiates Central America culture. The music in the background was ethnically exciting and upbeat. I recognized the song as "En Barranquilla me quedo" by Selena Cruz. This is the exact kind of music that I like to listen to while I'm eating something zesty and well-seasoned. The manager came up to me and asked if I enjoyed my Camparo Beans and Fried chicken. "All I am missing is a cerveza". The manager knew exactly how I felt. I look forward to seeing this establishment thrive.

Their milkshakes are really good too, and the fries stay crisp. The mac and cheese was a disappointment though, and I wish they had a spicier or at least more garlicky sauce. Their sauce leans more on the sweet side, which isn't really my preference, and is why I personally prefer Sheikh's more. But overall, not bad.

Unfortunately, not the best visit back. Now it is important to note this is my second visit back,…read moreas my first visit was of the upmost pleasant experience. So I'm not excited about leaving this review. Service: (+) What I will say is the cashier was very nice and welcoming and he seemed passionate about his job throughout conversation! He asked us what we tried the first time and provided explanations and different options on the menu for us to explore. Ambiance: (+) still clean inside (-) it's still SO COLD in the restaurant. We had originally ordered to stay, however after sitting there for a couple minutes while waiting for the order we changed it to go- prefer to eat at home where there is sufficient heat. (-) Another thing was we weren't able to hear each other over the very loud music playing. Not only while we were ordering (we had to ask for the cashier to repeat himself and had to repeat ourselves), but also when we were trying to talk to each other as we were waiting for food. Food: {we ordered the Yoyo Mix Plate, double burger, lotus biscuit milkshake, and Mac and cheese} (+) the chicken sandwich mild is still really delicious, although I'd like to see more coleslaw in it, in order to even out the flavors. (-) the smash burgers were dry. Not like the first time we were here where it was toasted but still moist. (-) lotus biscuit milkshake was good, but didn't seem to be as rich as the one we had the first time. It was watery- seemed to have ice cream to milk ratios off (-) Mac and cheese was my ultimate disappointment. I'm huge on Mac and cheese and the first time we came it was white cheddar and literally top tier flavors. This time around the Mac and cheese was yellow (?)... and it tasted like the Kraft Mac and cheese powder. Really not pleasant at all To me, CONSISTENCY IS KEY. I truly believe a restaurant has hit its peak performance when it achieves consistency. Here, unfortunately, it is missing. To me, the very evident change in the color of the Mac and cheese speaks volumes. It doesn't allow you to speculate whether maybe you might be tasting something different- it's just outright in your face different, and the taste is inconsistent. And not only with this, but also the other parts of the meal I had mentioned above. I can now see some of what had been mentioned by other yelp reviewers to be true. I don't believe I will be back- but do wish this restaurant the greatest success and hope they see this and take the feedback constructively.

My husband ordered their jalapeño cheese smash burger and waffle fries. The texture of the Chicken tenders were slightly rubbery and gristly which means they were undercooked. As soon as I lifted the chicken, half of the panko breadcrumbs fell off and the other half was soggy from the Texas toast on bottom. The breading of the wings were slightly better however again, the texture of the chicken was off. Although I ordered both the tenders and wings plain with sauce on side, they still should had some sort of seasoning. I guess you must order sauce on them for flavor. The waffle fries were awfully dry and unseasoned as well. Burger was decent but the establishment is called "YoYo Chicken" not YoYo Burger. Sauces - I wouldn't know what they tasted like becuase they forgot to put them in the bag. I paid a total of $1.50 for 3 sauces (.50 cent each) blue cheese, lemon pepper sauce and YoYo sauce. First off, wings should come with blue cheese without a 50 cent charge. Second, if I ordered lemon pepper sauce on the wings, it essentially would've been free but since I ordered sauce on the side, 50 cents! Wanted YoYo sauce for dipping my fries, 50 cents! I paid all of this money just to get home with no sauce in bag lol Overall, I spent a total of $36.00 for inedible food without the help of sauces and a Meh burger. Definitely won't be back!!

We were greeted quickly and had a choice to tables to choose from. The dining room is small, maybe 8 tables total. We each ordered a half order of the crispy thighs- his all spicy, and I got half plain and half honey butter with a side of truffle mayo and vegetable kimchi fried rice to share. Even without the rice it was a decent amount of food. The food came out really fast (though menu said the chicken could take up to 25 mins). Having it on the side actually made the meal better because you can adjust how much flavor you want each time you bite into a piece. It is also nice to have a Pelicana in Plainview since Korean fried chicken spots are getting more popular and this location adds a great option to the area. Food wise I cannot complain. Everything was cooked well and it pairs nicely with the beer they serve. The only drawback was the service situation with our order. Our server told us that three pieces of chicken were dropped in the kitchen so they would bring out the full order except those three pieces and make the missing ones afterward. After we finished eating they completely forgot about the three pieces but when we reminded them they brought them out and honored it which made the overall service decent in the end. Good food and a solid experience and I would come back again.

The outdoor dining section is covered and beautifully decorated with tropical flowers and plants. It looks like something from the Caribbean. Again flowers and chandeliers adorn the space. There are also decorative carving figures mounted in the back wall. A DJ came in and was mixing Latin music which gave an upbeat vibe. I truly felt like I was on vacation in the Dominican Republic. The food was even better than the ambiance. We really were sure what we wanted to order but after speaking with our waitress we both ordered Mama Fango stuffed with meat. This is a dish consisting of sweet plantains mashed, seasoned, and fried into a little bowl shape then stuffed with your meat of choice. I went with the white chicken. The flavors were complex and overall delicious. The white sauce is like an Alfredo with cilantro. It is a very filling dish and I ate every last bite. My friend ordered the same but filled with churrasco. The meat was tender and rich with flavor. If you are celebrating a birthday, then this is the place to be.
