Dropped into Polly Ann Bakery on my daughter's birthday, 8/22/24. She lives in San Pedro. I was looking for Sweet Harmony by Anne and didn't realize she bakes from her home. I didn't want to go to her house without a cake, so I decided to buy 6 small cupcakes. Seriously, they were so stale and the worst tasing cupcake I've ever had. I paid $18.00 for them. The sales person was very friendly and helpful; I will say that, but I do not recommend this bakery at all. I took one bite and didn't eat the rest. We threw them out. My husband's favorite place in the world! He loves the chocolate dot cookies, his mom ate them when she lived in the area and was pregnant with him and so now, every time we are in the area we must visit Polly Ann and stock up on our cookie supply. Everyone who works at the bakery is always very nice, they have a wonderful display of goodies and everything is delicious and fairly priced. My kid was hungry , stopped by this bakery and was initially thankful something was open so early ,so close to school. I got a slice if cheese pizza, but when the lady lifted up the slice, there was a hair on the very tip. The lady said she couldn't see it, so I pulled it out and placed it on a white paperbag so she could see I wasn't lying. She gave me another slice, and a donut, but now im here eating my donut ,looking it over because theres something i dont quite like about the dough , and I see another hair- whyy!!!!! read more

Saw a photo of a cake in a previous review and loved it and requested the same cake just to make life easier. I can say just like that previous review, this cake was beautiful!!!!!! Also tasted great. The strawberry mousse filling was delicious. Ordered a batch of cookies as well that everyone enjoyed. Aries theme for my birthday. And Minerva was so responsive and nice. Hate to add on to the negative reviews because San Pedro has so few bakeries left, but I recently went for the last time for the same reasons already mentioned in the other reviews-the quality of the food and the employees, who time after time put pastries different from what was asked for in a box or boxes and seal them without displaying the contents first. Especially if the pastries were bought for someone else and once you open the box to discover the waitstaff selected whatever they felt like, you feel discouraged that you allowed them to take your money under false pretenses because you can't rely on these workers to do their jobs. I don't know if the owners or managers can't get good help but the employees are definitely lacking in any type of skills required for this job. read more

Cute small bakery offering traditional bakery items along with their own signature items. I like the cinnamon rolls because they are not too sweet and are tasty without the need of being warmed up. Their bear claws have a great nutty taste. I also like the raisin roll, soft inside and crispy outside. I believe it's a family owned and established business. read more

I ordered my 82 year-old husband's birthday cake from here in March 2021. The design was perfect! It was exactly what I requested (see below) with the titles of books my husband has authored over the years. However, disappointedly, the cake was dry, very dry. It was a sponge type cake, with a cream frosting. Also, as it sat out on the table for display, for about 1 1/2 hours, it began to show cracks in the icing, like it might become several pieces, not just one. Wait is unreal and staff is rude. They have no help. Waited 12 min ... just ignored. Not even a ...we will be right with you. I made it to Polly Ann just before it closed at 1pm today, Sunday. I needed a little something to take the edge off my hunger 'cause yes I did run out the door early this morning without eating, as usual. In a previous review by Kim, he describes this place as a 1950's bakery and that it is, like it has been frozen in time. Kim also mentions that the baked goods are a bit spongy, like in the 50's, and my raspberry bar was indeed spongy, haha......like the Twinkies I remember eating when I was a kid. My grandmother would roll them in powdered sugar and I would have it all over my face. It seems like just yesterday that I was sitting in my grandparents kitchen........on a Sunday morning. I spent every weekend at their house and it was wonderful. So Polly Ann Bakery gets 4 stars just for being so vintage cool, and for being just about the only business in the sweet little Weymouth district that was open on Sunday, and for that spongy raspberry bar that reminded me of my distant youth. Service was extra friendly at this bakery. The young girl who helped me could hardly wait for her day off tomorrow, perhaps one reason she was all smiles. I perused the selection of goodies that included double chocolate chip cookies, nice-looking donuts, lemon & raspberry & coconut bars, cakes as you would expect.....and interesting bars frosted with chocolate icing and decorated with colored flowers like a cake. They turned out to be dolled-up Rice Krispy bars, would you believe? Haha! If I'd been a kid I woulda got one, but my adult taste buds can no longer handle stuff like that. Not to mention that those icky stickies would probably pull out the fillings from my teeth. Polly Ann Bakery needs a bit of help. I'm not really sure why it has such great reviews. I've lived adjacent to 8th for a little over a year now (but am also a San Pedro local), and I had never set foot in Polly Ann until the other day when my friend and I thought we'd venture in and peruse the sweets. I know it has a reputation in San Pedro, so I was expecting a little more. The inside needs a total makeover. It looks dirty (even though it's probably not), the pastries looked really old, and I was horrified at pizza that was sitting in the case (it looked like it had been there for DAYS). Granted, I did visit in the afternoon, but it seemed relatively busy, so you'd think the presentation would be a little better. The selection was good - everything from cakes, cookies, muffins, pastries, coffee drinks, etc. - but it just wasn't that great. My friend and I split a Napoleon and a cream puff. The cream puff was tiny and nothing to write home about. The Napoleon was just meh. The filo dough was nice and flaky but not particularly buttery or delicious. The cream was just okay. We sat at a table that looked like it was a couple clicks away from caving in...not safe. The woman working inside was super friendly and helpful, though, so kudos for that. The only thing this place really has going for it is that it's been a family (mother to daughter) run business for many years and is located on a quaint, cute street. It's a shame Ramona's closed; I'd much rather get pastries there. My take? You can pass this place up...unless you just like to window shop. read more

Polly Ann Bakery has been around as long as I can remember. I remember going here with my grandma for sprinkle sugar cookies at the wee young age of 6 or so. And this place has been around long before that. Decor still looks the same and the cookies still taste the same. I guess that's all you can ask for. When I'm near Weymouth Corner (which is hardly ever) and have a sweet tooth I'll pop in for a sprinkle sugar cookies and a few thumbprint cookies. The gals working are young and super friendly. It always seems like I usually stop by towards the end of the day but they still are always well stocked and the cookies always taste fresh baked. Brings back great memories coming here. The quality of the cake we ordered wasn't the same as years before. I have been coming to them for over 22yrs, I have 4 kids so I'm always ordering from them and this is the first year that I was disappointed. Before I was able to tell them what I wanted and boom they would create a beautiful and wonderful cake even if it was just flowers and writing. I have been coming here since the 90's, started with them making our wedding cake, a 3 tiered heart shape with fresh strawberry filling, super moist white cake. Just recently had them do a special Halloween Themed Birthday cake, marble with chocolate mousee and raspberry mousse~ Always moist, fresh, and presented with a smile! The venue provided this bakery to supply my cake. I went to the cake tasting and they said we had a different time but they still took us , everything tasted great. I went over my vision of how I wanted them to decorate the cake, the bakery emailed me back giving feed back about how purple would color people lips and tongues. So, I emailed them back and told them exactly what I wanted and how I wanted the cake to look like since we went another route. I told them I wanted white frosting with open hearts on the bottom layer and the middle layer was little dots everywhere and the top layer white frosting with closed hearts all around it. On my wedding day which was 9/9/18 I see my cake for the first time and it was completely wrong. Thankfully the inside was right but not what I wanted visually since we emailed back and forth that was NOT how we were going to do it. I was disappointed to see that.
