We had bruschetta, and panelle (chickpea fritters with whipped ricotta and hot honey) as appetizers and split a pepperoni pizza and ceaser saled as an entree. Food was exceptional. Felt like an explosion of flavor in your mouth. We were seated in the very front of the restaurant which had a modern simple design. We will definitely return. read more

Menu is more interesting, bit adventurous, and what we had was very good. Charred cauliflower is a must. Arancini were nice, gooey inside, maybe bit too crispy outside but I liked that. I don't dine in Brunswick very often, since it's a bit of a drive from my home, but I was meeting a friend, and liked the idea of a prix fixe luncheon menu, so we decided to give it a go. Reasonably priced at $25 for an appetizer, main course, and dessert. We both got the garlic Caesar salad, which was tasty, but would've been nothing special without those lovely garlic homemade croutons. For the main course, my friend got the Chicken Parmesan, which in the past she says has been overly spiced with additional red pepper flakes, but this time, at her request, came out with a much better balanced sauce. Based on other Yelp reviews, I decided to get the Marsala Porcini. It was good, but I felt it was also nothing special, and compared to the size of the Chicken Parmesan serving, was considerably smaller - look at the photos. For dessert, we both got the mini cannoli, which was OK as well. Certainly nothing like Boston East End cannolis, which is probably an unfair comparison. Because they are so small, the cannoli shell is much too crispy, and very difficult to eat with a spoon. In the end, I think the food was OK, and the price is reasonable. if I lived in the area, I may return, but I'm certainly not going out of my way. read more

Pomelia has it all--the most delicious food, friendly, attentive service, and a great location, near Bowdoin College and The Brunswick Hotel. They have an almost solid 5 star rating for a reason. We stopped for lunch after visiting Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, and prior to walking over to the Peary-MacMillan Museum on the Bowdoin campus. It was a nice July afternoon so we enjoyed a limoncello and an aperol spritz on the outdoor patio. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and helpful, and my Wild Mushroom Pizza was out of this world. If you have been missing recently closed Slab (in Portland), this is the place for you, only next level. Know that they currently close from 2 pm - 4 pm between lunch and dinner, and reservations are recommended but not required. A solid five stars, I can't wait to return. read more

We had a reservation last night for my friend's birthday and I'm glad we did - the restaurant was busy. Service was impeccable - from reservation to seating, hostess, and wait staff. Everyone was professional, attentive and friendly. Asia was fantastic. The dining room is bright. Doesn't rise to the level of "ambiance" for me but it was comfortable enough. While I very much appreciated the free focaccia before our appetizer, I prefer mine with a little rosemary/herb (personal preference) - if not on the bread itself, maybe offer an infused oil? The black pepper was flavorful. Cheesy arancini was good. My panzanella was tasty too. It has a lot of red onion and peperoncini. My friend ordered the spicy ragu di salsiccia but couldn't eat it. He described it as "spice for the sake of spice" and too hot. Again, I realize this might be personal preference. I can say, the manager took it off our bill - without us asking - which was a classy, appreciated move. Service really is very good. The chicken parmigiana (replacement) was good. Service was Great! Tables are very small and packed together. They sat us where when the front door opens the cold air hits you. Definitely wear a warm sweater in the colder months. The food was simply okay. My husband had the chicken parm and it was dry and tasteless. The sauce had zero spices and was a simple red sauce. For an appetizer we had calamari. Overcooked and extremely chewy. Bloody Mary was wonderful yet the margarita I had was small the ice cube was as big as the glass and my second one tasted nothing like the first. I had the eggplant dish. Very small pieces of eggplant with a large amount of sauce so it appeared to be more than it was. I add shrimp which was very tasty and cooked well. This dish all and all was good just very much overpriced for eggplant drowning in Sauce. I don't mind spending money on good food but it was painful to pay for this meal. I had a wonderful dinner here as part of my bachelorette weekend in Maine! Every staff member from beginning to end was extremely kind and celebratory. Our waitress was extremely flexible and allowed us to add an extra arancini to our appetizer order so that everyone could have a full piece. Everyone got a different entree and thoroughly enjoyed their food. I enjoyed how my Chicken Parm was especially crispy. The espresso martini was also a wonderful hit. Don't fill up too quickly on the fresh oil and herb bread to start (you will have one piece and keep going back for more). The frommagio pizza is to die for and a large will feed 2-3 people. The pesto ribbon pasta in a sun-dried tomato based sauce with almonds and focaccia breadcrumbs for texture and it deserves an 8/10. Cocktails and mocktails are as delicious as they sound. My husband and I had dinner at Pomelia this past Saturday night. Highly recommend getting a reservation as it's a busy spot. We ordered the bruschetta, which wasn't your typical tomato and cheese but had a richer taste with eggplant. Really loved the hot and cool aspects of it. I had the penne alla vodka with fried chicken cutlet. The pasta was house made, the chicken was crisp and had a great texture. My husband had the porcini dish with added chicken breast. He liked his food as well. It was pretty rich so we ended up taking 1/3 to 1/2 of the food home. Skipped dessert because we were full but I've had the brioche con gelato before and really wished I'd had room for it this time. read more

Our first but not last visit to Brunswick's newest restaurant - Pomelia. Specializing in Sicilian cuisine, their menu offers a different take on similar regional Italian dishes that we've enjoyed elsewhere. The charred cauliflower was nicely different than the usual spicy / buffalo cauliflower - fennel, pine nuts, golden raisins, and pickled shallots make this a fresh and lighter version of one of our favorite appetizers. The pasta all a normal has such a rich, warm eggplant and tomato sauce - three of our group ordered and loved it! I had the spicy salsiccia - a perfect balance of spice and flavor...will definitely get it again. Thomas be the area's only Prosecco bar - gotta love that. And the small wine list has enough good and affordable options that will match any item on the menu. Pomalia now offers take out - just order online and pick it up for an easy home meal. Wow. What a great experience. The owners of this restaurant really care. The outdoors with all the climbing flowers is so lovely. It's fantastic to get real Italian food that is perfect, lovingly made imo. We had the best calamari with a great sauce and peppers mixed in. Super fennel salad, so fresh and generously portioned. And the mushroom pasta, our waitress said it was her first choice and so glad I went with it. I love marsala and this not only has a marsala sauce with cooked mushrooms but crunchy fried mushrooms on top. Delicioso! I have to say though, the most special thing about our experience was the way we were treated. Both our servers, a fellow and a girl, were so genuinely friendly and happy I kept that feeling all day and night. It's a really good thing to be treated like that, life is hard and ... you know. This was my first visit to this relatively new restaurant in Brunswick. After hearing a number of good reviews from acquaintances, I decided to take my wife here for lunch on our day off for Veterans Day. We obviously were not the only people who had that idea since the restaurant was packed, which is fantastic for a Tuesday lunch! After starting with a mocktail for my wife and a Peroni Pilsner for me (absolutely love that beer by the way), they brought a basket of warm focaccia. Drizzled with a bit of the fruity and bright olive oil on the table and it made for a great beginning. My wife and I shared two pizzas, one was their take on a pepperoni and the other was a Rianata with olives, capers, red onions, oregano and a pomodoro sauce. As with all of their pizzas, they are done Sicilian style on a focaccia style crust. Typically, I am a fan of a thin New Haven type crust, but I was very impressed that despite this crust's thickness it was crisp on the outside yet light and airy in the middle. Pro's (nearly all): Oh WOW! We saw an article in the Harpswell Anchor this morning and hadn't realized Scarlet's had closed and Pomelia emerged. As a celiac, thrilled to find they have a dedicated gluten free fryer with all fried items gf- we had calamari and meatballs as apps and shared spicy ragu, all GF, and all AMAZING. Gluten lovers wouldn't know. So good. We had started to lose hope with so many closures and not anything spectacular coming in, until THIS. So worth a try. We will absolutely be back. Do betters: really just ambience. Candles or stick lights on tables with overall lower lighting would feel less 'cafeteria'. We also didn't see a dessert menu, not sure if there is one (we couldn't have eaten more either way). Our waitress was thorough, friendly, knowledgeable. What a wonderful experience we had at Pomelia! There were 6 of us for dinner on Saturday, 3/15/25 for a 7pm reservation. Our server was attentive and friendly. We were not in a hurry and we were very chatty, it took us a minute to get our acts together. We had several appetizers: Cheesy Arancini, Calamari Fritti and Panelle Chickpea Fritters. The cheesy arancini was my favorite by far. Everything about it was perfection. The fritters had changed recently and was not presented as a slider. We deconstructed it and was able to share it between 6 of us. It was different, but so good! The house ricotta sauce was the perfect addition. The calamari was tender and tasty. I had the bread salad (I cannot remember the exact name of it right now and I don't see it on the menu) it was very good. If I get it again, I would order it without red onions. For my entree I had the Porcini Marsala and I LOVED it! The sauce was flavorful and it paired perfectly with the busiate pasta. My friend ordered the same dish - but added crispy chicken! I think it was breaded in panko. It was juicy and crunchy, a wonderful combo. For dinner we ordered a couple cannelloni to go. This is not my favorite dessert, however I did like this version of it more than I have liked most. Cozy little spot, I will come back for sure. read more

Definitely need a reservation as this place was well booked. The menu has many options with something for everyone. I tried the arancini and meatballs. Both were delicious. Our server was amazing- always there when we needed, with a friendly attitude. There is a small bar area as well with a good variety of offerings. I had a glass of very tasty Chardonnay. When Pomelia first opened, my partner and I were excited to see more regional Italian cuisine here in Maine. The menu reflected Sicilian staples, but unfortunately the execution was lacking. I am so happy to say that our earlier experience was probably due to its recent opening and still zeroing in on the details. Our recent visit was quite the opposite-- they've nailed it! We opted for their fix price lunch menu and was not disappointed. We started with the zuppa di ceci, a rich tomato-based soup with ceci beans. Topped with a little evoo, it took the chill out of the cold day. Though concerned about the "garlicky" in the title of their Caesar salad, the garlic stayed in the background and the umami of the anchovies was just the right balance. For our main courses we had the seafood gratinati perfectly cooked and just waiting to dip a piece of that home made focaccia. Nothing could be more Sicilian than pasta al pistacchio. The pasta was cooked al dente and the white sauce mixed well with the prosciutto (though I would have preferred the sauce to be more cheesey than buttery). For our dolci we had the cannoli. Perfect shell with a bright splash of lemon covered with chocolate and, of course, pistacchio! Service was great and we appreciated Lindsay's customer service. I am glad we live in a state without the death penalty, and I will do my absolute best to be a good man and citizen to serve the State of Maine and our American nation, and support and defend our U.S. Constitution, but should I ever be seized by the enablers and cronies of an authoritarian cult of personality, and find myself on death row at the hands of an oppressive regime--my friends and fellow citizens--I would ask for my last meal to be from Pomelia. For it would be bliss and a gift to have the taste of this restaurant's heaven on Earth on my lips for my final moments. The staff transcends benign and mundane customer service of other establishments to make a guest feel you are an honored VIP member of the community, a long lost family member, or a dear friend returned from voyages in exotic lands. "Welcome" is inadequate to describe the feeling that one had been invited to a feast of Italian/Sicilian inspired delights. I had heard good things about Pomelia, which occupies the sacred space of the former Scarlet Begonia's restaurant, a cherished jewel in the crown of Brunswick eateries, run by the legendary Doug and Colleen Lavallee, who after decades (thirty years) of their family running the establishment chose to retire, and handed the torch to Chelsea and Tony Bickford in November 2024. And they have taken that torch to blaze a new trail to culinary, service, and ambiance excellence. A magnificient accomplishment to honor the legacy, and to become a bright new shining star among the Brunswick restaurant constellation, already a very competitive restaurant environment. This is the first time I've ever visited this establishment, I do not know the owners, and I am not receiving any compensation for this review. I walked in the door in the company of a dear friend, not knowing a reservation was preferred and suggested. Chelsea, the owner, with a lovely sweater, on this chilly damp Maine mid-Spring evening, was manning the host station and was warm, kind, and gracious and found us seating at the bar with a minimal delay--profusely apologized for. Leigh Anne, the tallest french horn playing (not at the time mind you) waitress I have ever experienced, was a charming delight, seating us and beginning the family-esque dining experience. She was followed by the bartendress, Laurel, with the magical mystery moth tattoo, and exqusite body artwork and personal style and flair, and cheerful countenance, conjuring a delicious Sicilian Manhattan for my dining companion with an extra luxardo cherry, soaked in marasca cherry syrup. Despite the bustling filled to capacity crowd, Laurel was fun and friendly with the barside banter, answering all of my ignorant questions about the menu, while simultaneosly pouring and mixing a bevvy of beverages for the patrons. Jason was her compatriot behind the bar, with tender caring dad energy, keeping it real and relatable, engaged us in conversation, and making expert recommendations (I was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver on Tuesday...sigh...and probably not the best idea to go out to an Italian restaurant under those circumstances, but he did thoughtfully offer the best calorie conscious choices), while patiently waiting for us to decide from a menu with so many delectable competing dishes vying for our attention. The atmosphere was a mix of urban chic and modern Italian charm. I hope the new American Pope Leo XIV visits and is blessed by the authentic Italian cuisine. The food came in a timely fashion, but we were so entertained by the staff, that we didn't even really notice the wait. Expertly and gently served in front of us. As pictured. the Meatballs and Caesar salad were perfection, a remarkable and balanced mix of flavorful and zesty. My vegetarian dining companion's kale salad, and Sicilian cheese pizza, thicker than Roman pizza, with a tangy baked to perfection texture, it felt like it had come from some hole in the wall bistro on the side of a Palermo backstreet, an authentic Sicilian dining experience--deliziosa! We were too stuffed and satiated for dessert, but the dessert menu looked amazing, ("leave the gun, take the cannoli") and maybe we will come back sometime just for dessert. if you ever get invited to this restaurant, make sure you understand that this is an offer that can't be refused, and do yourself a favor of enjoying the total experience of Pomelia. First of all, my partner and I were ambitious in attempting a walk-in at 5pm on a Saturday, but to our surprise the two front end staff who greeted us with such politeness and determination to accommodate us! They offered us drinks while waiting and even had a spot open up sooner than expected. We sat at the bar, the seats were perfectly comfortable and not too crowded for a dining experience. Our waitstaff were attentive, and we were checked on multiple times without it being overbearing. The food- full of flavor! Pasta, although it did not look homemade, was perfectly al dente, and you'll likely have enough leftover for lunch the next day. This was our first visit for an early dinner. I had the Pomelia meatball appetizer as a dinner. Four good sized meatballs in a delicious sauce was heavenly. I would go back just for those meatballs! My husband very much enjoyed the Spicy Ragu Di Salsiccia. He thought there should have been more ricotta on it to help with the spiciness so he asked the waitress for a little more. I asked for ricotta too for my meatballs and the waitress was happy to bring us both a little dish which was great. I asked for gluten free options so perhaps that's why neither of us were offered focaccia to go with the nice olive oil at the table even though my husband is not gluten free. That's ok. Next time, we'll ask I was interested to see there are plenty of gluten free options including desserts. We tried a hazelnut gluten free cake with (I think) marscapone whipped cream. It was very good! One comment about the atmosphere, it's a lovely space however I would have preferred softer music in the background rather than a pop style duo singing from 3-5pm. Tony the owner allowed us to host a party of 30 people and I can't say enough about how great the food was and how professional the staff was. We did a buffet table and with wine served at the tables and a buffet dessert table as well. At the end of the party they made personal sized takeout boxes for all the leftovers so everyone could take something home. Tony also chatted with the kids and even gave them a bag of car toys to play with during the meal. Everyone in our party raved about the experience and will be back to Pomelia soon. Very friendly and attentive waiter service despite how busy it was when we went. Pizza was absolutely delicious. I love the foccacia-style crust. I think it's my new favorite pizza in the Bath-Brunswick area. The mocktail I got was refreshing and fruity. The arancini appetizer was flavorful and cooked perfectly. The chocolate cake dessert was good, but nothing special. Next time I'll try cannoli. I noticed that they have a great kids' menu, which was a bonus for when we bring the family. My only disappointment was the Sicilian orange salad. I've had this style of salad in Italy, and I think Pomelia's needs a bit less fennel, less vinegar, and more orange. It needs full circle slices of oranges, more like the traditional Sicilian style salad. They are on the right track, just needs a little adjusting. read more

Went for an anniversary lunch with high expectations. Wow, we were impressed. The service, the ambience, the food. Excellent. The proprietors were former owners of the Little Bistro in Wiscasset which we frequented after we moved to Maine from Silicon Valley in 2017. That fine dining establishment compared well with the highest bay area fare. We were saddened when it closed down in the midst of Covid. We actually had a reservation for the day they closed for good. Now that they are back and doing what they do best, practicing world-class culinary art right here in mid-coast Maine, we plan to frequent Pomelia as often as we can. We shared a perfectly fried calamari and the wonderful Ricotta meatballs for apps. My wife had a Caesar salad with real (not tinned) Anchovies added and I had the Marsala Porcini entree whose remains will become today's lunch at home. Both were great. Oh and the server was just so professional and sweet and it made our experience even more perfect on a blue sky Maine day. What else can I say other than, make sure you get a reservation! The service and staff were lovely and kind. My Cesar salad was perfect- the romaine was evenly tossed with the dressing beforehand so I didn't have to mess around with it myself. We ordered the larger pepperoni pizza and my husband and I almost finished it. I loved the cupped pepperoni. Non-alc Italian soda was delicious. I wish I could stay longer and try everything on the menu. I noticed the music choice felt weird and didn't go with the restaurant vibes. I'm coming out of Yelp retirement to tell everyone about this incredible new restaurant in Brunswick. Pomelia took over Scarlet Begonias and breathed some much needed life into that dark, outdated restaurant. It is so lively and welcoming, offering both a laid back atmosphere, but definitely somewhere for a romantic night out as well. Our waitress was Dawn, and we absolutely loved her! Friendly and knowledgeable and willing to answer my many questions about the menu. It was a toss up between meatballs and calamari, but with her recommendation, we went with the calamari. It was hands down the best calamari dish we've both had. Flavorful, expertly fried and the sauce, to use my husband's words was "drinkable". The peppers and onions added a nice variety to the bites. Absolute perfection. I had been eyeing the menu since the second they posted it, and still had a hard time deciding what to order. Everything looked amazing. The pasta dish I wanted to order had just sold out, so I went with plan B- the mushroom ricotta pizza and a garlicky Caesar salad. The focaccia pizza was flavorful and fluffy, while the Caesar was cold, crispy and had the perfect amount of dressing. I was accidentally served the kale salad, and while they were quick to bring the correct salad to me, I had a couple bites before I realized the mistake and loved that too! My husband went with the Marsala porcini pasta and added the chicken Marsala. I stole a few bites and thought it was very good. We ended the night with the chocolate cake, which had good flavor but a bit dry. I wish I had chosen the cannoli, but there is always next time!
