We stopped here last night with the kids after having wanted to stop for the longest time (out-of-towners). The staff was very friendly, though there was an hourlong wait for an indoor table (definitely make reservations!) or 10 minutes for outside (which was a little surprising given how many open tables there were). Both the indoor and outdoor spaces were super cool with some really amazing gardens outside in full bloom and then the more darkly lit, warm and cozy, and open concept with a great view of the kitchen team hard at work. I was the only one at the table to get a cocktail, to which I chose the blueberry lemon drop. It was really well balanced with a nice blueberry flavor without being overpowering. My wife got a merlot, which she enjoyed. The kids both enjoyed their chocolate milk and strawberry lemonade. Food wise we started with a caesar salad, which was good but pretty mild in flavor. It could have used a little more parm and either more pop to the dressing or just more of it. My wife got the (gluten free) baked focaccia and the lobster bisque for her dinner. She was melting over the focaccia (which I agree was the flavor bomb though I admit the gf bread was a little gummy - not abnormal for gf bread though and didn't really bother me). The lobster bisque she found equally delicious. I also found it quite tasty though did find it a little thinner on the mouthfeel than maybe normal. My MIL got the mussels that she said were really tasty and we found were locally sourced. I got the short rib. It was a large chunk of extremely tender meat with some absolutely delicious mashed potatoes. The gravy was pretty solid for it though I would have preferred it with a little more beefy flavor than maybe the wine. The carrots were a little disappointing, if I'm being honest. They were cut into vastly different sizes, which led to some majorly uneven cooking and even the smallest pieces were still much too firm - not crunchy but not really tender beyond the first quarter inch or so. It was almost like the were par cooked whole and then chopped up after. Definitely atypical and not really up my alley for carrots. Overall, aside from a couple very minor misses, this place was absolutely a winner and I'm absolutely getting some brick oven pizza next time! read more

10 of us went here for dinner here before the welcoming party at Mast Landing Brewery for our niece's wedding. We plug into two groups. The "parents" and the ladylike children". My wife and I each started with the Caesar salad. Then she had the halibut and I had the divers scallops. Both dishes were very good. We have consistently had great experiences here. Food is always exactly what we hope for when ordering and in some cases, exceeded expectations. The service is always very good. Pleasant, prompt and fun to interact with. The management and staff at this location, are always so professional and well skilled. They definitely help make it a great experience. The environment hasn't really changed - cozy warm living room feel. Upholstered furniture. Still very nice. It's amazing that it doesn't feel worn out, even after all of these years. In the colder days, the fire place and fire pits are nice. Appetizers have been consistently great. The favorites: fresh bread, crab cakes, calamari and meatball Main dishes - any of the specials they offer are typically great. The most recent one I had was the crab cake and burrata risotto. Any pasta dish is usually amazing and I love ALL of their dinner salads with so many protein options you can add. The desserts - the only one that I know and love is the chocolate cake. ALWAYS consistently good! Parking - street and behind the restaurant there is a lower lot - difficult if you have accessibility needs, as it's an angled driveway. Warning - it's a one way in and one way out lot! There are signs, however, I have seen some people either not see them or ignore them. Drive slowly. Reservations - Easy peasy via the Resy App! Came in on a Thursday around 7pm. The restaurant is dimly lit and has tables and booths. There is a large outdoor seating area as well.Our server was nice enough. Ordered a bee sting pizza, focaccia appetizer, chopped salad and the sangria, strawberry rhubarb old fashioned and peach tea Palmer. The pizza had the perfect balance of heat and sweet. The focaccia was nicely toasted and served with marinara, ricotta and pesto. And the salad was a perfect size with cheese olives tomatoes cucumbers and dried chick peas. The first pizza they brought out had the wrong toppings on it so they kindly remade it for us and they comped the pizza for us for the trouble. We sat at the bar for an early dinner. Excellent service from Kate who was high energy and checked on our meals several times. We had NorthEnd Chicken Parmigiana and Chicken Marsala. Both were excellent especially the ricotta gnocchi. Ended the meal with the Cannolis with wild blueberry compote. We have eaten here before and will be back. A busy place right on the north side of the Freeport shopping area. Parking in the back, which is very good. There is indoor, bar and patio seating. We had a nice spot inside near the windows. Two sandwiches- I had the crispy haddock sandwich. I have to say it looked fantastic but lacked in taste. Very bland. Fries were good. My husband had the chicken salad BLT and liked it. To be honest, this wasn't our planned choice for dinner, but it turned out our planned restaurant was closed, so ... And to get to the bottom line quickly, we enjoyed a good meal with fine service and came away quite happy with our "discovery." The restaurant is attractive, roomy inside with tables and booths and a bar and also has delightful outside seating. Our server (thank you Laura) was quick to get to us and took good care of us throughout the meal. We were served with no delays, with the hot dishes hot and the cold beers cold. A good evening. We found the Seafood Alfredo ($38) to have just the right texture, bursting with flavor of the seafood. The calamari was a bit chewy but pretty tasty, we enjoyed the crispy Bang Bang Shrimp ($20) and the Chicken Parm Pasta ($30), and we thought the side of spinach (yep, we're spinach fans and will actually order it by itself) was very good. The dessert chocolate cake was yummy and indulgent. The menu items we thought to be just a bit on the pricey side, but it isn't altogether unexpected in this tourist area. After 2 days of eating bar food in Freeport we were craving something a little more sophisticated and in a sit down environment. Throw in a craving for some fresh pasta and we found Tuscan Bistro. Located smack dab in the heart of town it was nice that they have their own amply-spaced parking lot for those not already meandering about the downtown area. We went in without a res and were promptly greeted and seated with a smile. Our server Zach was kind, knowledgeable and had great timing/organization. In order to try more of the menu and not have leftovers whilst staying in a hotel we like to split apps, entrees, sides and a dessert. They were able to accommodate us and there wasn't an up charge at the time of writing this. The crab cakes were delicious. Perfect sear on the outside and full of tender crab. They aren't huge but also aren't just a pile of breading like you find many times. Our entree was a simple pasta and meatballs as good as grandma makes. The marinara was tasty and the pasta was cooked to perfection. The side of carrots were also cooked correctly and seasoned well. We finished with a lemon blueberry tart (it is Maine after all) and like everything else, it was really tasty. It wasn't cheap, but it wasn't outrageous either and I never mind paying for quality. This place is PHENOMENAL. The service was great, great atmosphere and setting and the food did not disappoint. I wish food had been cheaper because I wanted to try more, but the prices aren't outrageous. The margs are great, as margs are, and they're a good price too. The lobster roll was great, although the meat was cold which was a bit disappointing but the butter that came with it was warm and made the cold meat easy to ignore. They also do free birthday dessert, which was a lovely surprise when I gave my ID to our server and after we had finished, he brought the dessert menu and told me it was free since it was my birthday. For the lobster roll, two margaritas and the birthday dessert, it came to a grand total of $60! Post Labor Day in Freeport is fun. Crowds are gone, great sales are happening and Tuscan Brick Oven Bistro makes pizza. Yes folks, lots of pizza makers out there, and everyone has an opinion. So here's mine: Perfect. I love when a pizza comes out of a brick oven crackling hot, perfectly browned, and looking fantastic. Score! I had a meatball pizza and my wife had the Calabrese pizza. While mine was every bit as quality made and delicious, I ended up eating some of hers too. I want to return and have a Calabrese all to myself. It is so delicious! My watch for thing is, "how hot is the food when it arrives?" This pizza was fantastic that way too. I love crunchy crust. Looks like a great menu for other things, and if they do as well as they did on their pizza, then it all should be excellent too. We had a great waiter. He knew the menu, was prompt, professional, and cheerful. He earned Tuscan my 5 service rating. My only caveat is that restaurants should be particularly careful about who their "first face" is at the hostess table. It's the most important introduction for a new customer. Management should pay close attention. Hint. Second time I've rated the restaurant. Nine years ago I gave a 4, today 3. The atmosphere is still welcoming and cozy. Waitress was a little terse - maybe just having a bad day? That by itself wouldn't affect me a lot. I ordered the vanilla chai. It had too much lemon and I couldn't drink it. It was nice that they took it off the bill. The Farmhouse pizza was okay. The service was a "drop and go" approach from our server (blond hair/male). While spending Christmas with relatives in Freeport, Maine, one afternoon my companion and I found ourselves on the prowl for a suitable restaurant in which to enjoy a casual lite lunch. Evidently a great many others had entertained similar thoughts, as the Tuscan Brick Oven Bistro was full and overflowing. And as you would undoubtedly surmise from the enclosed photographs - Christmas rush notwithstanding - Bistro is always an immensely popular spot. Fortunately, we arrived just in time to snare a recently vacated high-top in the bar area. Which afforded us not only an up-close-and-personal view of the bustling bar scene, but also of the activity swirling around the semi-open kitchen. Our lunch menu held no surprises: Antipasti... Insalate... Sandwiches... House Made Pasta... Brick Oven Pizza. All the usual suspects, present and accounted for. That being said however, there were a number of interesting choices along the way. The Maine Mussels, for example, straight from Bangs Island; or the Lobster Bisque, featuring fresh Maine lobster... The pastas - Marsala... Bolognese... Parmigiana... Spicy Tuscan Shrimp - certainly appealed. Ditto the Brick Oven Pizza. But this, as noted above, was to be a lite lunch, as we already had reservations for a rather early dinner engagement that same evening. So, we zeroed in on the sandwiches, finally deciding that our best course of action might simply be to split one. Fine... But which one? The Bistro Burger, Italian Beef, and Porchetta all seemed a bit over the top for a lite lunch. It came down to a choice between the Chicken Parmigiana and Local Haddock. We chose the latter... which, unfortunately, proved to be something of a disappointment. Nothing "bad" per se. The breading was nicely crisp and the haddock quite fresh. It's just that anything even approximately flavor - either in the breading or the fish itself - was conspicuous by its absence. Totally bland. Not even the roasted tomato-olive caponata and lemon basil aioli adorning the toasted brioche bun could snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Fish, quite obviously, is not the kitchen's strong suit. I have no doubt, however, that a more straightforward approach to the menu - namely the aforementioned Chicken Parmigiana - would have yielding more satisfying results. We had, in a word, chosen... poorly. Something you may wish to keep in mind for a future visit. read more
