We've been to Pompano's a couple of times. The wait was pretty long (1 hour),but worth it. Had grilled fish(grouper) &shrimp. The crawfish cream sauce that comes with isn't all that, but the rest was mighty tasty. Good view to the ocean. Views are great. Beachside location is great. However, the food is marginal and very over-priced. I ordered the blackened Mahi Mahi. The fish was flavorful, but the vegetable side was mushy frozen veggies, and the twice baked potato side was withered and dried out. Not what I expected for a $28 entree. read more

This was by far our favorite restaurant while visiting Destin. The atmosphere is fun and our waiter was hilarious! The food was outstanding. I had a special, mahi mahi over a bed of cheesy grits smothered in cream sauce with shrimp. My husband had skewered shrimp and an add on crab cluster. And our daughter's fried shrimp (kids meal) was equally delicious. Family we ate with had the grouper sandwich. They are local and always bring out of towners to this restaurant. You have to go here! First of all....it's right on the beach so the view is amazing. There is nothing like sitting outside with amazing food and drink watching the sun set on the emerald waters. GUMBO.....what can I say. I have tried Gumbo at many other places. I have even had it in heart of Cajun Country Louisiana and nothing compares to the gumbo here. The nachos are delish, the grouper sandwich is a treasure and did I mention the GUMBO......... The coconut shrimp is not to shabs either and the Reggea Rolls are a necessity in life. I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal here and we go often. There is a bar when you get there that serves drinks and appetizers if you have a wait for a bit. There is also a bar down a flight of stairs that has live music and plenty of seating. We go there often and just watch the sun go down and listening to music. My husband and I took some family from out of town there for their first time and of course they loved food, booze, and views but it was our waitress (Ryan P.) who made the night awesome! Not only did she provide AMAZING service, she made us all laugh and enjoy the night ten times more! Everything here was excellent. Called ahead to be told a 30 minute wait. Put name on list and checked in when we arrived. Received a text out table was ready within 2 minutes. Server was there taking drink orders and told us to put a menu on the corner of the table when we were ready to order. Drinks were never empty. Reggae Rolls were delicious. Food was hot. Fried food was light and delicious, not greasy. Large portions. Everyone cleaned their plate because we knew leftovers wouldn't be nearly as good. Open-air dining on a perfect night! read more

The food was grossly over priced. We waited nearly 2 hours on a table. Once we were finally seated, the restaurant was overwhelmingly hot, so much so we felt sick and other customers nearby were complaining. We asked if we could open our window to get a breeze and were told the manager had denied several requests for the same thing so we propped it open with a used dish as opposed to leaving. The bathroom was filthy, smelled horrific and was somehow even hotter than the rest of the restaurant. The food was average, but not special and certainly not worth the wait or the price! We decided to eat here because the parking lot is always PACKED with people waiting in the afternoon. So, anticipating crowds, we arrived early and got a table outside on the deck. The view is phenomenal, and there is a volleyball court right next to the restaurant. First thing, we ordered a round of drinks at 8 dollars a pop that came out in "souvenir cups" that rival the size of kids meal drinks. Our server Jennifer was great. Now on to the important part...the food. We ordered the shrimp and fish combo, grilled grouper, and garlic crusted grouper. I've definitely had better. The vegetables that come with the meal were dried out and inedible. The fish was under par...likening something you would get at a chain restaurant such as Applebees. As a matter of fact, I'd rather eat discounted fish there than pay 25 dollars a plate for this mediocre food. Overall, I'm giving this place 2 stars for awesome views of the beach and good service. If you want good seafood, definitely find somewhere else. read more

Meals: -Chargrilled Shrimp: tasted pretty good, until I noticed that the chef had failed to remove the poop vein! I could not bring myself to even eat the rest. That vein was staring me in the face! -Blackened Shrimp: first bite is really good, but then the spice kicks in. I am a little sensitive to spicy food so that is not a meal I would probably order myself (I tasted it from someone else's plate). But, again, many of the shrimp had the poop vein still stuck in the back. -Fried Shrimp: really good! I am not usually a fried shrimp person, but I really liked the fried shrimp at Pomano's. The batter is thin and the shrimp isn't overly fried. Drinks: -Berry Bonanza: frozen strawberry daiquiri w/ coconut rum- so good! I'm not generally a fruity drink person, but was tired of beer and wanted to try this. It tasted so good! I really liked this. It was not too strong but not too weak. It was also not too sweet. I definitely recommend this drink! -frozen margarita- not so good. I wouldn't expect this area to specialize in margaritas, but tried one anyway. It was really weak and seemed like there was more frozen ice than tequila or sweet and sour/lime juice. Atmosphere: awesome. I love coming here when I'm in town because the atmosphere is so fun, the view is beautiful, and I have an overall good time! Side note: I keep seeing bad reviews about the service and I have never had bad service here. The hostess seats us quickly, the wait staff is friendly and takes good care of us. read more

Hands down this is the best seafood restaurant on the beach! They have new place in Panama City Beach, too! Food is excellent especially the Tuna melt. All of our family want be sure to eat here before going back home. As another review said, parking is limited and during tourist season it is very busy. Crowded. Obviously the place to go for the out of towners, so the locals probably don't frequent this establishment. If you want to go where the locals go this probably isn't it. However, with that said the restaurant provided a nice indoor and outdoor dining experience, right on the beach. One patio is on the street side (obviously less desirable) and the other is on the beach side. The food was very very good! PJ's platter comes with fried oysters, shrimp, scallops, and fish. We had a large party (12), waited for two hours to be seated. Our waiter was nice but lost our ticket. We were there until almost 11 pm waiting on our food, then they couldn't refill our drinks because they had already poured out the tea. My MIL had ordered the vegetables as one of her sides and when it came out, it was just like diced up pieces of tomatos and carrots. My husband's veggies were good. I did try some of my FIL's tilapia, it was very good. Overall though, the worst dining experience we had all week. We thought they might be nice enough to knock some money off our overpriced meal, but they didn't. read more

Had dinner with my family at Pompano Joes, based on a personal recommendation. I was not disappointed. Kind of a rustic building with wooden tables, but we had a table overlooking the beach. Ambiance was decent , what makes this place is the food. Grilled Mahi-Mahi with shrimp and crab sauce was terrific. They even had chunks of crab in the sauce. I was extremely impressed with the food. Everyone had a great meal. My only big complaint was parking, it's open parking and you compete with beach goers and it's a challenge. read more

We usually eat here during our Destin trip, sometimes we alternate with other places depending on how long we're staying. Very large place, but usually good service and food is good and tasty. They have good and bad days here. They handle large parties fairly well, and normally don't sacrifice the smaller groups of 3 or 4. Food and service is better in the "off" periods of the April-Sept. time frame. It's a tradition for us here. read more

My mom and I ate here while we were on vacation last week, the service was good however she was a little pushy and made us feel rushed when to order. I ordered The red snapper with steamed vegetables and my mother ordered the tuna burger with french fries. The burger was very good probably one of the best I have ever eaten at a seafood restaurant, however the steamed vegetables were not very tasty, they had no flavor at all. My moms tuna burger was very good and full of flavor as well, the French fries were on point as well. But one thing that stood out, was the ketchup I'm assuming they leave the bottles outside all day to soil in the sun because the ketch-up was the most awful catch up we had ever had in our life. Our server was wonderful I believe her name was Rachel. When we return to FL we will most likely return. :-) read more
