To start our meal we had the calamari and I had a side salad. The calamari was cooked perfectly and came with tiki sauce (tasted like lemon--very good sauce) My side salad was very large and fresh. It had lots of good veggies but sadly didn't come with cheese. For our entrees we had the blackened grouper and blackened mahi mahi. I eat a lot of fresh fish and I always get it blackened. I also enjoy eating spicy foods, but their seasoning was a little too spicy for me. The fish was very good and cooked well but I could hardly eat it because the seasoning was so spicy! I have ate here before and it wasn't like that so hopefully they just accidentally put too much this time. The veggies didn't have a lot of flavor but were edible. The twice baked potato had good flavor but was very dry. Seemed to of been in a warmer for too long. I ordered one of their specialty mixed drinks that was peachy. I think it was called peach punch but I'm not sure. It was super good and I would definitely order it again! Overall, a good experience and still one of my favorite places in Destin! I absolutely loved our visit to Pompano Joe's! This is a huge seafood restaurant right on Miramar Beach. We were given a wait time of an hour and 45 minutes, which was fine with us since we went earlier than we wanted to eat anyway since we knew everywhere in Miramar/Destin had extremely long wait times. The nice thing about it is, the wait doesn't feel too long when the place is literally ON THE BEACH, & there is also a bar serving drinks underneath the restaurant. Once inside the restaurant, it was definitely packed, but they have nice long tables for large parties, which worked well for our group of 7. Unfortunately, the tables are incredibly close together so getting into our seats, & especially adjusting them to not bump into the chairs behind us was a little difficult. The place was also extremely hot, I'm assuming they usually have all the windows open, however with a tropical storm rolling in while we were there and very strong winds, they had all the windows shut & it was quite stuffy. Our waiter was incredibly nice, & our drinks, & even our food, came out in no time, which I was very impressed with being with how packed the place was. I ordered the tuna strawberry fields salad, & it was GIGANTIC! Easily could have made it into 2-3 meals if I had not doused the entire thing in dressing. Since I did, I ate as much as I could stuff down, & took the rest back to our condo & ate immediately. It was so good, I just didn't wanna waste any! I never thought I would spend almost $20 on a salad, but it was well worth it & the tuna steak was amazing! My fiancé ordered the crab feast, grilled, & he loved it, even though he had not anticipated how much seasoning they would put on the crab legs. He had sweat rolling down his face but ate every bit & said it was delicious. The kids meals were pretty large for my 3 children & the 2 younger kids went back with leftovers. The drinks were good as well, if not a little strong for my taste, however I am not much of a drinker so they would probably be strong to me. They do come in nice keepsake plastic cups you get to take home. Was definitely an expensive meal for the 7 of us, but it was a nice experience as most of us had never been to a beachside restaurant before. Would go back if we were ever in the area again. They also have a gift shop we browsed after eating, although we didn't purchase anything. I've prided myself on being a pretty logical person, but recent conversations and events suggest the antithesis to this erroneous belief. Here's what I know: 1. Our waitress was an angel. Super sweet, apologetic, and quick to remedy a train wreck beyond her control. 2. You will wait an unbearably long time to eat subpar food. 3. Maybe the boxed items on the menu actually reflect inventory they're trying to move out rather than "Joe's Favorites," but, there again, I'm recognizing the error of my life choices. 4. Some of us try to be "nice" while delivering constructive feedback, but their face suggests a different story (Obviously, not a commentary on the restaurant, just philosophically reflecting on my life.) 5. Our waitress and Joe, the manager, really were delightful humans. 6. Even when you prepare food and prepare it a second time, no matter how nice your wait staff may be, doesn't change the fact that your food isn't worth a two hour wait for hungry and intrepid travelers. 7. The view of the beach is stunning. Again, not a commentary on the restaurant, just a general observation. read more

They were super busy and had a little bit of a wait which is completely understandable but since it's right on the beach we entertained ourselves while waiting! One of the busiest restaurants in the area, but for good reason. We arrived at about 7 which is one of the peak times. Our wait was about an hour and a half. They have a great view of the coastline and a bar outside to get drinks from to help pass the time. Once we got seated we had great service. Our waitress was very friendly and made some great recommendations. I ordered the blackened steak medium rare. For sides the steamed veggies and twice baked potato. We went there on a Friday afternoon at 3 PM. There was 10 in our group and we were seated within 10 minutes. The waitress was attentive even though it was apparent that all the wait staff was very hot and working hard. They all were doing the best they could. Happy our pricing was decent and we were able to order off the lunch menu which was available until 3:45 PM. The seating in the restaurant is cramped and it's rather warm in there but the food came out correct and nobody had any complaints. I overheard the people at the table next to us saying it was some of the best seafood they've ever had and everyone in our group enjoyed theirs as well. Prices were reasonable given that it's right on the beach and although parking is very much a challenge using the public access parking lot we made it work and enjoyed our meals. read more

What an amazing beach eatery!!!! Loved that the waitstaff respected the patrons by wearing masks. We are finding that not many restaurants are doing this in Florida. We work in the industry and try to be understanding, but they weren't that busy. We got the sampler appetizer .... Came out At almost same of our food .... Cold ... since the app sampler was all fried food, not very good once it got cold. And fried seafood also not great. Our meals are were just ok. Yes we told our waitress, and she shrugged her shoulders and said that am sure it at least warm....Nothing to really talk about at all. The view is pretty, but the food is just ok. We've eaten here twice and felt the same way both times. I had the grilled mahi mahi with black beans & rice and street corn. Mahi mahi tasted as though no seasoning, black beans & rice were soupy & watered down tasting and the street corn was excellent. Portions were large. There is no way to describe how good the grilled crab is. The night before eating here, we got snow crab from TCT down the road and it was terrible. Every bite was heaven. Service was great. The day before, my daughter and I came here also just needing to get a break from our traveling group for a bit. We just needed desert and to sit for a bit. Walked down to Pompano Joe's on the beach. There were four of us in our group. We were seated promptly and had a very nice server. All of the waitstaff and hostesses were wearing masks. The gumbo was good (not great, but you won't be disappointed) and did not skimp on the shrimp, sausage etc. We were seated within 20 minutes for a late afternoon dinner. Our waitress kept our water glasses full, and combined with the kitchen to get out order exactly right. We were seated inside, the only negative was it was a breezy late afternoon. they began shutting the windows, we were seated at the end. They didn't want to interrupt our dinner to close the window but because they shut all the others, we had a freezing wind blast for the last part of our dinner. We loved the food, despite being very busy, the service was good. I doubt the window issue we experienced is a common issue and some if it is the risk of eating beachside. read more
