Vegans visiting Destin, FL - I am here with great news!! I've been vegan for the past 4 years and Destin has remained one of the LEAST vegan friendly places in America. But Pompano Joe's has come through for us. It's no vegan cheese and meat substitutes, but in Destin, we'll take what we can get! It's not listed on their menu (Pompano Joe's - list these on your menu!!!) but they do have 2 fully vegan options available that aren't just side items!! The first is the PJ's Vegetable Platter - baked eggplant, mushrooms, zucchini, squash, and tomato with a house made garlic vinaigrette, served with a baked potato for $16.99 and the second thing, what I got, was the Fruit and Avocado Salad with a black bean and corn relish, mixed greens, papaya, jicama, and chopped avocado with a berry vinaigrette dressing for $13.99. And the salad was phenomenal!! So flavorful, fresh, and LOADED! They do you well with the avocado, which is unusual anywhere. They also have good side options - black beans and rice, fries (duh,) and a vegetable medley. Not too shabby for a tourist trap! I was so excited I had to share! Happy Hour? Hours changed "recently" now it's 2-4, online Yelp says 3-5 I believe. We sat down at 3:58 yesterday and missed HH. That being said seafood nachos were good, as were the Tito's Watermelon Lemonade drinks. read more

They were super busy and had a little bit of a wait which is completely understandable but since it's right on the beach we entertained ourselves while waiting! Pompano Joe's caught my attention because it is amongst the most popular seafood restaurants in Destin. Overlooking the Gulf, ending the day with dinner at Pompano Joe's makes your vacation 100 X's better. The menu overwhelmed me because everything sounded so delicious. Reading the descriptions got me drooling so much, I could flood the Gulf! I ended up getting the Grouper topped with lump crab and sundried tomato butter. The dish proved to me that it was worthy of its mouth-watering description on the menu :) service was also fantastic. Can get a bit crowded, so I recommend calling ahead to add your name to the waitlist. read more

The wait was about 2 hours to get into the restaurant. We got appetizers in the bar area to tide us over. I understand there is always a wait to get into this restaurant. So be prepared to wait. The waitress was very attentive and the food was good. It does tend to get a little windy if you were seated near one of the doors that serves the outdoor dining area. We love Pompano Joe's. It is a must any time we visit the Destin area! The grilled crab legs are our go-to!

The spot was great! I really enjoyed the location and atmosphere and it was perfect for 6 adults and 2 kids. The food, however was insanely overpriced for how mediocre it was. What a fun place to eat! A must see when visiting Destin. I will say be prepared to wait for at least an hour and many times longer during peak season. We walked along the beach while we waited. The food is pretty good, but very pricey so be prepared for a big bill at the end. The staff is always friendly and we always request a seat with a view of the ocean. read more

The view is pretty, but the food is just ok. We've eaten here twice and felt the same way both times. I had the grilled mahi mahi with black beans & rice and street corn. Mahi mahi tasted as though no seasoning, black beans & rice were soupy & watered down tasting and the street corn was excellent. Portions were large. Also had the reggae rolls appetizer and they were delicious but you pay $17.99 for 4 rolls no bigger than a small egg roll. What a great place. I will admit it was slammed. We checked in at 4:45p and got seated at 5:45p. But you can go get a drink and then go sit on the beach while you wait. Not a bad thing!!! Once we got seated we checked out the menu. Nice selection to choose from. But I wanted seafood. I ordered the grilled crab legs. Man was this a good choice. The seasoning and taste was awesome. This was average. Great on the each atmosphere. Drinks amazing!!! But....the food was mediocre at best. I truly hate giving bad reviews. We work in the industry and try to be understanding, but they weren't that busy. We got the sampler appetizer .... Came out At almost same of our food .... Cold ... since the app sampler was all fried food, not very good once it got cold. And fried seafood also not great. Our meals are were just ok. Yes we told our waitress, and she shrugged her shoulders and said that am sure it at least warm....Nothing to really talk about at all. Just had my first visit to PJ's. First observation was that none of the staff or customers had masks on. Meal: I ordered the Fish Tacos and they were fried. My fault for not checking. First of all this place has way too high of a rating for a high priced sea food meal. Not sure what people are thinking, the sides are bland to say the least. Steamed veggies for a $30 sea food dish- really? The only part of my meal which I enjoyed was the Tuna steak itself and nothing more. I was given a seat under the live music area which was quickly available due to the loud and obnoxious noise over powering my conversation. To start our meal we had the calamari and I had a side salad. The calamari was cooked perfectly and came with tiki sauce (tasted like lemon--very good sauce) My side salad was very large and fresh. It had lots of good veggies but sadly didn't come with cheese. For our entrees we had the blackened grouper and blackened mahi mahi. I eat a lot of fresh fish and I always get it blackened. I also enjoy eating spicy foods, but their seasoning was a little too spicy for me. The fish was very good and cooked well but I could hardly eat it because the seasoning was so spicy! I have ate here before and it wasn't like that so hopefully they just accidentally put too much this time. The veggies didn't have a lot of flavor but were edible. The twice baked potato had good flavor but was very dry. Seemed to of been in a warmer for too long. I ordered one of their specialty mixed drinks that was peachy. I think it was called peach punch but I'm not sure. It was super good and I would definitely order it again! Overall, a good experience and still one of my favorite places in Destin! There is no way to describe how good the grilled crab is. The night before eating here, we got snow crab from TCT down the road and it was terrible. Every bite was heaven. Service was great. The day before, my daughter and I came here also just needing to get a break from our traveling group for a bit. We just needed desert and to sit for a bit. They were busy but seated us quickly and our waiter was so kind to not pressure us to leave after getting drinks and a desert. He even moved us inside Wendy when a sudden rain came. read more
