Fully drained and removed the fish to give it a deep cleaning. Fish look so much happier and I couldn't recommend them more for anyone looking to get their pond serviced. An Unconventional Review I contacted Lance because one of my water features, a pondless waterfall, started losing all of its water in a single day. I imagined that I had a serious leak in the reservoir or the cascade itself. To properly assess the problem, Lance suggested a couple of diagnostic steps which I performed prior to his service call. What I learned from these steps was that there was no leak in the reservoir. I had, in fact, tried a number of DIY fixes to address a reservoir leak...which proved to be a non-problem. Examining the waterfall more closely, I found the culprit: roots and accumulated vegetation had diverted some of the flow, emptying the waterfall in a few hours. Lance was so gracious and helpful with his attention to my problem that I am giving him this five-star review although I didn't hire Pond Works, and no money changed hands. Rest assured: if I need help with my water features in the future, the work will go to Lance. read more

Lance is fantastic and deserves more than 5 stars. I was cleaning our outdoor fountain and dislodged something so the waterfall stopped working. Because it was so dirty, I had to manually remove some of the water and created a total mess. Years and years of dirt were in this fountain. I called Pond Works in a flurry of calling companies to have someone come out and left a message. Not only did Lance call me back that night, he scheduled to come over the next day. He cleaned/replaced the old filter on our fountain, and we are back to enjoying tranquility in record time. Not only did he do a great job on the service requested, but more importantly, made me feel like the job was straightforward and did not take advantage of the urgency I portrayed. I called several other companies, and he was the only one that was honest on his pricing, what might be wrong and how he can help. The pricing is transparent and fair. I talked to other companies on the "best fountain repair" list, and they were either lazy or trying to inflate the cost to come out to look at. He impressed us and we will be using his company for future servicing on our fountain. Where do I start?!? My mom's pond needed a lot of love attention. A reset if you will. Lance came in like a super hero!! Within of minutes of asking for a pond specialist, lance responded! Sent a few pics of the pond to him and had an appointment set. There was a little problem with his scheduling and we ended up having to wait a couple of weeks. He came this morning, charged $700+ and the pond is up and running this afternoon. He even recommended products, and a place to buy koi. My mom is so happy her pond is up and running. **This was 9/28 it's not yet a month and the pond is back to where is was before we reached out looking for help. This business is run and operated by 2 young brothers. Don't let that fool you, they've been doing this 16 years and are absolutely professional and so good at what they do!!! They knocked it out of the park with price, design, timeframe and professionalism!!! SO FIRST THE BACK STORY BEFORE I GET TO HOW POND WORKS SAVED THE DAY!!!.... I had a waterfall and pond put in my first property around 2005 and I paid a mint for it, but it was worth every penny. That was a different company. Sadly, I lost that property in the last recession. I now am in my 3rd property which I've had 4 years. I always missed the waterfall and pond from the first property and started fanticizing about putting one in at this property. So fast forward to June of 2020 when I hired a "landscaper" to completely relandscape my slopped yard (I live on a hill) AND he said he could do the waterfall and pond too. 10 MONTHS later he was only 90% done with the landscaping and 75% done with the pond & waterfall. Sadly, the water feature looked atrocious and completely unprofessional! So on April 2, 2021, I FIRED the bozo!!! ENTER MY KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR!!!.... That same day that I fired my landscaper (who, btw, did do a great job on the actual landscaping but the pond and waterfall were a complete eyesore), I called Pond Works and spoke to Lance and he happened to be near my home giving an estimate so he said he could come over right afterwards and he did. About 1 hour later, he had arrived. He did say he could finish what the other guy started but said there would likely be leaks and issues within a year and I'd have to tear it all out so of course he couldn't warranty his work. Given my property is on a hill and supported by multiple retaining walls, I couldn't afford to take the risk of major erosion. And having seen what a professional waterfall and pond should look like, I already knew there were many flaws in the work my previous guy had done! So I asked Lance how much it would cost to tear it all out and start over. He gave me a very fair quote. I then said my mom's 75th birthday was April 16th and I was throwing her a surprise party on the 17th, so I wanted it done by the 16th. He said he was wrapping up a job and could start on mine afterwards and would be able to finish in... FIVE DAYS!!!! Not weeks and not months! 5 DAYS!!! I immediately said yes, how do I give you a deposit to secure the date? He sent over an estimate the next day. I sent my deposit and we locked in Mon. April 12, 2021 as a start date. I expected a team of men to arrive that Monday but it was only Lance and his brother, Sean. Honestly, I still can't believe what these 2 men accomplished in just 5 days! They tore everything out, brought more dirt and rocks and by Fri April 16, 2021, they were done! 6 hours/day x 5 days = 30 hours x2 people = 60 hours! Ahhh-mazzz-ing!!!! WORDS CAN'T EVEN DESCRIBE HOW ELATED I WAS TO FINNNAAALLLY HAVE THIS PROJECT DONE! AND, MORE IMPORTANTLY, to see the spectacular end result!!!! I put my full faith in them and they showed up every day and made it happen. I could see Lance thinking as he would piece together the design in his mind. He would verbally explain his plans but seeing it come together was amazing!!! And, on Friday, they brought the plants and my 6 new koi... who are now respectfully named: Bojangles, Braveheart, Goldilocks, Rhett, Scarlett & Dreamer. I am so in LOVE with my water features! They literally knocked it out of the park! Though the waterfall looks like it passes under the walkway into the pond, they are 2 seperate water features that were so masterfully designed you'd never guess they were seperate (btw, the first guy DID have them connected under the walkway but Lance felt there could be too many issues with that in the future so I trusted him). TRUST ME WHEN I SAY, IF YOU HIRE THIS COMPANY FOR YOUR WATER FEATURE, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!! I really cannot recommend them. We purchased a home with a koi pond. It was not in good shape, and we needed someone to go over it and bring it back to glory. Their reviews seemed good. They charged us several thousand dollars. They moved the fish to a tank to drain the pond and change the water. They did replace both pumps and one filter. They also removed the aerator, which they did not replace. The second pump went to some old barrel filters, which they did not replace. Although they drained the pond, they did not seal up cracks, so the pond continued to leak, and they did not remove all of the old pipes and wires at the bottom of the pond that were no longer in use and looked bad. Almost every day after that, we had to have them come back to fix something. The auto filler fell off and was floating in the pond. The pipe they connected to the one filter they replaced exploded and sprayed water all over the yard. More importantly, fish started dying. These fish had been in the pond for 15-20 years according to the previous homeowner. Their "expert" came to the house multiple times. He told us we were feeding too much, so we didn't feed for the next three days, as he instructed us. When two more fish died, he told us that we had starved them to death. The fish were swimming with their nose down and their tails up out of the water. He said, "why do you think they are doing that?" He was supposed to be the expert. In the meanwhile, the pond water turned black, probably because they never installed a new aerator. Lack of oxygen may be why so many fish died. But he told us that the pond was getting dark because of algae, and that algae puts oxygen in the water, so he didn't think that was the problem. All I know is, we hired them to make our pond perfect, and paid them nearly $10K. We subscribed to the monthly maintenance, but within just a couple of weeks, the pond was so black we couldn't see the fish, and 2/3 of the fish were dead. The fish quickly became diseased and died. All we were to do is feed the fish on the schedule they provided with the food they provided. With them in charge of everything, our pond became black, and our fish dead. So very disappointing. read more

Sean built a beautiful water feature in our backyard. Upon completion he recommended adding an additional component that would help alleviate algae. We agreed to and paid additional money for the component. fast forward one year Sean contacted us about cleaning the water feature. It still was doing great but we agreed. so he cleaned it. Afterwards the algae system did not work. so he came and took the component with him and told us we had to purchase a new one. Being it was only a year old I decided to contact the manufacturer and was told that it had a 3 year warranty. I could get it replaced if I sent it to them with a receipt and the part. Sean would not give us either. Now we are left with a water feature and lots of algae and Sean will not help us stating that we want his work for free. We had to reschedule three times because he kept double booking himself. We set a time and he informed me the day of our appointment that he couldn't make it because he had another appointment scheduled at the same time. He offered to reschedule later the same day but I work full time and couldn't accommodate that. This happened twice. We rescheduled him for a Saturday. He was supposed to show up at 11:00 AM, he didn't. I texted him at 11:15 asking if he was still coming and he didn't respond. I called him 10 minutes later to cancel service and he said he was wrapping up his tools and would be on his way. I told him not to worry about it and that we would be calling someone else, he responded "no problem" and hung up. I understand things happen that warrant rescheduling appointments but the blatant lack of communication and accountability was extremely unprofessional. read more

Hired this company to do work on my rental home. The pond was and still is in bad shape. I am currently out of state and they tried to take advantage of that fact. Was quoted for 2-3 hours of work but when we got the bill we were charged for 5. My guess is that they were just hoping I would pay without asking questions. Once I brought this up they lowered the price by a whopping... $149.31. However, they also broke a window at my house which they did not replace and stopped responding. Threw out waste into my yard and still charged me a waste disposal fee. Completely unprofessional. Any attempt to fix these issues over the phone is met with profanity and unprofessional bathroom talk. We absolutely loved working with Pond Works LA and would happily work with them again on any waterscape project. After researching a few companies we decided to go with Pond Works LA. We're so glad we trusted our instincts because we absolutely made the right choice. Lance and Sean were incredibly easy to work with and we're thrilled with how our pond came out. They were also beyond gracious in offering us a discount since our sole reason for building a pond was to give our rescued ducks a proper place to swim and we have several other rescued animals as well. My husband and I are fortunate to live on a small plot of land that was once and is still zoned as a farm (even though it's a developed suburban neighborhood now). So, we took the opportunity to rescue three flightless ducks that had been dumped by their owners. We also have two rescued mini pigs. On May 1, 2021 we purchased a pond pump for $600.00 from Lance. The pump that had worked well for us for 12 years suddenly stopped working just 3 days before we were scheduled to leave on vacation for two weeks. When we installed the pump just prior to our departure, it failed to function. It should be noted that we have years of experience maintaining pond and irrigation equipment on our large property. Our neighbor kindly offered to meet with Lance at our home to resolve the problem in our absence, although he had no experience with the equipment. Lance apparently "got the pump to work." However, over the succeeding two weeks it did not seem to function properly. When we returned, it was not working at all. On May 22, 2021 we took the pump back to Lance and asked to speak to a manager.. He was "out on vacation and his employee promised that manager would contact us right away. A week later - and many phone calls later -- we still have heard nothing from Lance about our pump. Phone calls are not returned. Employee says they are "testing" the pump. Bottom line - Lance has the pump and our $600 and fails to contact us about a solution. Very poor service and follow up. I've had my pond for 5 yrs and only had it cleaned twice when it should be done yearly. I was afraid to choose just anyone and then someone introduced me to Lance at Pond Works. He did an excellent job and now I have someone that can do the yearly maintenance. He not only does pond maintenance but he is great with landscaping too. I have a sloping front yard and an area with lots of rocks. When it rains the mud washes right down the pathway and into the street. I needed some kind of retaining wall but Lance had a better idea and used the rocks to make a dry stream bed.
