The food tastes fine, and I would come back in a pinch, but it wouldn't be my first choice for chinese food. I didn't plan on eating in, but their dining room is closed, so it wasn't even an option. I also don't like that you are forced to tip, even though, again, I was not eating in. I was getting ready to check mark the custom box so I could leave just a $1 for my tip, but she kept pointing to the preset tip amounts which started at 15%. I wasn't so much being a cheapskate, but whenever doing take-out, I don't typically tip that much. My Beloved Returns!...PONGPONG ( 1/2/5 Stars, on Bell Rd.) I HAD two favorite restaurants in Phoenix: Los Compadres and PongPong. BOTH closed down - and long before Covid. Well, I finally got word, thanks, Rich!, PongPong has reopened! Here's to praying the same for Los Compadres someday. I was so overjoyed, that I pretty much botched my poker game today since going here post-poker was all on my mind. And I only play poker 2x a week, so I hate to miss it or do bad. But ever since I bit into this treasure tonight, I pretty much put poker waaaay behind me. PongPong was the first restaurant to introduce me to House Special Chicken, and I've actually never ordered anything else from this place. I first discovered this restaurant in probably 1997-8 and had been going until about 10 years ago and then they closed down. So, I had no choice until recently. The recipe has not changed, and it was OH-SO-GOOD. Same exact taste with each item. But, the "restaurant" has certainly changed. Not only did they discontinue dine-in, they barricaded the main dinning room and even made it so you can't even come close to the register. I had called ahead for pickup and they said 10 minutes. I got there, parked in a 15-minute only spot thinking it'd be ready in no time. Well, 20 minutes later, it was finally done. Thank God, they didn't tow me! LOL Additionally, they "required masks" (that I didn't have on me,) but the entire staff weren't wearing any, so I said whatevahs. I would highly recommend this place if you live in the area of 35th Ave and Bell, Phoenix AZ. *** Final Thoughts: I *WAS* going to begin my review with how upset I was with how MUCH they've increased their prices, but the absolute huge portions makes it a sharable meal with someone or even three separate stand-alone meals, so the price is way worth it. That said, they only offered 1 egg roll, 1 crab puff and 1 fortune cookie. Pong Pong all day, every day! My friend raved about the beef sticks here, so I promised him I'd treat him to them. He ended up ordering two orders and scarfed them down very quickly so I was not able to get a picture. Being from NY, I've had my share of yummy and amazing Chinese food, therefore my standards are pretty high when it comes to enjoying Chinese food. Pong Pong went above and beyond my expectations. Anyway.. We were greeted right away and brought to a booth. We went at off time, around 230 PM. So it was after lunch, but before dinner. We pretty much had the entire place to ourselves. I ordered wonton soup to start. It was a bit darker broth than I'm used to, but it was very flavorful. It was also served with some veggies which made the soup a lot more filling. A small soup only cost $1.00!! For my meal I got shrimp and broccoli combination. Combination meals include fried rice, egg roll and crab puff (Rangoon). Such a filling meal for under $10! I had asked our waitress if my shrimp and broccoli could be made slightly spicy. And it was! She hit the spice mark right on the dot and it wasn't overwhelming. So to start off. We ordered the other day from this place . We started the order and sent it and then added more to this order. The company called and let us know how there were two orders and asked if we wanted one small one canceled. We said yes.They said they would not charge our card for the smaller amount and they did anyway so we were charged twice but only got one order. We attempted to get it back from grubhub and grubhub would not refund cause they said it was longer than two days, which we ordered on Sumday and called on Tuesday. Which IS TWO DAYS!!... DO NOT ORDER FROM THESE SCAMMERS. I had been a loyal customer ordering from these guys since the 90s and they have burned me for the last time. Not only has their food quality and customer service gone down hill but they also have almost doubled in price(I get that part). All I wanted was a bowl of soup and wanted $20 charged on my card for Hot and Sour soup(it sucks btw) and instead they charged me over $170 and I have little hope that anything will happen beyond begging the bank to investigate and provide me a provisional credit because of them stealing my money.. I do have to say that it's been a while since I ordered and I noticed a change in prices, so they are not the cheapest place on the block anymore but I will continue ordering from them. The beef and broccoli was probably the tastiest followed by the teriyaki chicken. My first visit to Pong Pong was a good one. The restaurant is fairly spacious and on this early afternoon was quiet and uncrowded. My companion suggested this as one of her favorite spots for Chinese food and she was spot-on. She ordered her usual fare, the Amazing Chicken, while I opted for the Sweet and Sour Chicken. Both are on the combo menu and the portions are very generous. Starting off with a very good egg drop soup, the plate contained a healthy portion of the chicken, a heaping helping of fried rice that I supplemented with just a bit of soy sauce. There is also a pretty decent tasting egg roll. Overall, plenty of food for a very modest price. Service was very friendly, helpful and attentive without being intrusive. Very nice staff. Pong Pong is a wonderful restaurant. My fiance and I order from them repeatedly and have never had a bad experience or dealt with anyone rude. In fact, the entire staff-including the owners-are gracious and very kind. The owner even went out of his way once to make me a personalized dish when I was under the weather. I suffer from a gastrointestinal disease (a stomach disease) and so I have a hard time eating certain foods, but their food is always extremely fresh, beautifully flavored, carefully presented, and actually can make you feel better in numerous ways. Just not good. This was my first time dining at Pong Pong. My lunch companion selected the Amazing Chicken and I had the Pong Pong Chicken lunch special. The lunch specials come with a cup of Egg Drop soup, a fried wonton, and eggroll. The egg drop soup was excellent. The Pong Pong Chicken was very bland, and drowned peking sauce. I chose brown rice in lieu of fried rice and the rice was just okay. I thought the fried wonton was very greasy and the Egg Roll, I didn't care for the filling Overall just not good food. I'd like to end on a positive note. The service was outstanding. The staff is friendly and inviting and will explain everything on their menu. The prices and serving portions can't be beat.
