We came here for dinner because one of my friends said that they are one of the restaurants that sources their noodles from local house-made noodle vendor Samuel Hom from Phoenix Produce Co. Gotta support local when you can I say! The menu is pretty basic and has all your typical options for Americanized Chinese food. Wanting to get something that had noodles in it, I opted for the combination #1 which has chow mein crispy noodles, pork fried rice, and two tempura shrimp. Quite a lot of food and for a very reasonable price! I think the combo was around $10. If you are a fan of bean sprouts, this is your place. The chow mein had a massive pile of beansprouts on top. The noodles were indeed crispy but they was such a meager portion compared to the beansprouts. The fried rice was pretty basic but also a generous portion and the two tempura shrimp had a nice crispy batter. I tried some of the eggroll too which is one of the most unique versions I've had since the super crispy outer layer was either a different preparation or different wrap material than I'm used to. The interior was made primarily of beansprouts too. Service was good. Our food was prepared fairly quickly. read more

This spot recently jogged a memory for my mom who used to work downtown and came here for lunch often. That was over 20 years ago and she was excited to find it on TikTok after so long. Yesterday night on 01/21/2025 I got a large order of the House LoMein. It was delicious... I love crab puff and when I ordered the 10 or 8$ I believe, I got home and amount of cream cheese in each puff was a let down. It was smaller than a teaspoon and the puff was over fired and potato chip thin, it was not worth the 8$. But over all the service was great, the Ambiance was quiet and clean. I would go back again but I would not get the crab puffs. read more

Me and 7 of my friends were looking for a cheap pre-flight meal and found this place. The reviews were praising the food and recommending diners to neglect the scary neighborhood and exterior. (We knew that those factors would only add to the authenticity and deliciousness of the meal.) The food and service was incredible and we got to know the hostess really well. And the ambiance is what you'd expect. By the end it was heartbreaking to tell her that we were flying back to New Jersey, the one thing preventing us from becoming regulars here. The location is definitely questionable and that was no surprise, so it's not affecting my review at all. However, saw this place on TikTok and since we were in downtown for a comedy show for the night, thought we would check it out. All the videos we saw indicated you had to walk through the kitchen to get in - not true. The food is decent, but absolutely not worth the wait. The place wasn't even half full and it wasn't traditional lunch or dinner hours so there was no crowd rush at all. Took unnecessarily long to come and take our order and then even unnecessarily longer for our food to be prepared. When it arrived, the temperatures varied so much. Some dishes were cold, others were piping hot - like excessively. While everything was "okay", we will definitely not return. It wasn't worth raising to their attention about the slowness or the varied food temperatures because no one seemed to care much about anything in the place. PS - if you're staying at one or the City Scape hotels (we were at the Moxy), don't walk. It seems like it's gonna be close but with a variety of construction and such, the walk was double what any map indicated. read more

Not recommended. I remember eating here decades ago and have a faded memory of a dive joint, but in an endearing way. I returned and was beyond disappointed. Everything was completely run down, food was mediocre at best, and I spent the entire meal staring at a drooping dusty fan blade on a ceiling fan that apparently wasn't working. I love the vibe. Came here with a hangover New Year's Day. Egg soup yummy. Orange chicken super tasty. I'd prefer white meat but I know that's a me thing. Egg roll wasn't rolled in a wrapper but rather coated and deep fried kinda like relleno. I liked it a lot. Light and crispy. White rice bland but they have table salt. Prices amazing for downtown area. Fast and friendly service. She didn't speak much English but that just makes it feel authentic. Excellent, classic, American-Chinese restaurant straight out of "A Christmas Story." First off, the food here is excellent. It is of the era, meaning this is what Chinese food was like in the United States for decades, up until the advent of "authentic" and Taiwanese-Chinese restaurants. Those bring more of an authentic flavor, which unsurprisingly, Americans aren't crazy about. No, this is the good Ol' vinyl-booth Chinese restaurant from the 1950's and beyond. The food is the best version of classic Ameri-Chinese. The pork fried rice is to die for. It's the best I've had so far in AZ. It has that slight sesame oil flavor with the little bits of red-tinged BBQ pork. It's just perfect. I could do an entire meal JUST on their fried rices. The House fried rice throws in EVERYTHING and it's delicious. Sweet and sour pork, orange chicken, beef and broccoli, and all the usuals are here and they're all pitch perfect. Order anything, you'll be happy. So a big draw here is the egg rolls. They're enormous and look like golden brown fried business-size envelopes stuffed to the gills with bean sprouts, cabbage and other egg roll stuff. I found they were just ok. But they certainly look appetizing and are HUGE and inexpensive. Definitely try one. The place is in the worst industrial neighborhood you can imagine. It looks like a post apocalyptic movie set. But their parking is secure behind a chain link fence, and it's safe. I wouldn't go there late at night, but for lunch or an early ish dinner it's fine. The linoleum green-and-white floor and paneling haven't been changed in 60 years and I'm good with that. Prices are really cheap and the food is hot, fresh, and delicious. Been Around For a While New Garden Restaurant has been around for a long time, not sure how impasse this place by, until today. All I have tonsay is our food was really good as was the service. This little gem of a restaurant is family-owned and operated and their portions are generous, to say the least. Our food was served piping hot when it arrived and everything was really delicious. On this visit we shared the fried won tons, egg flower soup, egg rolls, chicken chow mein, pork fried rice, and seasme chicken. All our entrees were cooked to order, perfectly seasoned, and very tasty. If you're look for good Chinese food give this place a try, it doesn't disappoint. read more

Finally got to try this place after 2 attempts to check it out after a post from, a social media post. The first time we tried to dine in, on a Saturday, they were swamped with to go orders and said the wait for seating/food was at least 2 hour wait. Then tried again to just get food to go on a regular work day, only to find out they are closed between the hours of 3 P - 4:30 P (which is not posted on this yelp, but via a sign on the doors). So I arrived at 11:55 AM on Saturday to try and get in to place an order to go. They opened at 12:00 noon and I was second in person to place an order to go; however, it took 30 minutes for the order to be completed (which is understandable, since the just opened for business). This is an old establishment, which is in an old medium size place with several tables and sizes available. It is rather warm inside, which could be due to them just opening and starting AC, can't say...but it was rather warm inside with only ceiling fans running. I ordered the chicken chop suey and their infamous "big egg rolls," which are 2 count per order but only for $5.00. The chop suey is moderately sauced with mainly bean sprouts and good amount of protein. It's hard to describe the egg rolls which appears to be loosely packed mixture of mainly bean sprouts, some cabbage and meat (possibly chicken & pork) in regular egg roll skin, then it may be dipped in a egg/flour batter of some sort. They are big, but a little greasy likely due to the batter. But everything was seasoned ok. My order also included a cup of their egg drop soup and wonton chips. The place was being cared for by 5 gentlemen in the front of the house and they were all friendly & professional. This place was definitely was established many years ago and had that old Americanized Chinese vibe of the 50's-70's, which is not a bad thing. read more

I saw this place on TikTok and decided to give it a try. Given that it's been around since 1940 and has so much hype, I expected the food to be amazing. We entered through a door off Central that looked like it hadn't been cleaned since 1940. Walking to the back to order, we were greeted by a guy who resembled Russell from Up with Guy Diamond glasses. He asked if we were dining in or getting takeout. Since we chose to dine in, he handed us menu binders that looked like they hadn't been wiped down since the 1940s. I had never been in such a filthy restaurant in my life. Despite my initial impression, I still wanted to give it a chance. But the more I looked around, the worse it got. The bathroom was disgusting, random newspapers were scattered everywhere, wires hung loosely, and layers of dirt covered every surface. It was shocking. Still, I was determined to see what the hype was about. The waiter was incredibly rude and condescending when I asked about the menu. When I asked for recommendations, he barely wanted to answer. To keep it simple, I ordered crab Rangoon, Mongolian beef, orange chicken, and a couple of canned sodas. The food was beyond disappointing. The crab Rangoon had barely a drop of cream cheese, zero flavor, and came with a watered-down sweet and sour sauce. The orange chicken was drenched in grease, mostly batter with hardly any chicken. The Mongolian beef was rubbery, gray, and completely tasteless. Even the white rice was cold and undercooked. If you want amazing Chinese food, go to George Yang's instead. read more

The big size egg rolls was a nice presentation it had no seasoning it was bland sweet and sour wouldn't help. The rice tasted really good, there Sweet and sour chicken was different almost look like crab puff. The pepper steak with steam rice was real good. 3 stars because the food is good. My family and I just left this place for Mother's Day celebration. The waitress is a female lady with long hair and she was so rude to us. I'm Trying to accept that maybe it's their culture but it was on another level. We wanted to order some other things on the menu and she was hesitant and tried to persuade us to not order anything else. We wanted some refills on iced tea and she persuaded us to stick with water. It was really weird. It seemed she was covering the entire place by herself but how is that our fault. So please be safe deciding if you want to come here because of this waitress. This is my Wife & I's new go to place for takeout Chinese, the portion size is very large for the price, we both highly recommend the dinner combo to get a small sampling of what they offer! The owner is also the cashier, and he was wonderfully helpful, plus our food was ready quite quickly! I wouldn't recommend this place for dining in, as the setting is dim and is more of a room with tables than a restaurant. There are no windows which makes it feel a bit cramped, but that is why we love it for takeout! read more

I was craving some Chinese food so I ordered to-go. I ordered some chop suey, chicken friend rice, hot wings and hot and sour soup. The chop suey and chicken fried rice with crunchy noodles are delicious together! The hot wings were honestly some of the best buffalo style crispy wings I've had in a a while, and they beat most pizza place wings if you ask me. Hands down best hot and sour soup I've ever tried, nice and spicy and perfect sour with crunchy veggies and juicy chicken. Fantastic service, they're the sweetest. Don't be scared off by the area and older building, this food is worth it. Great prices for great portions and everything was cooked perfect and delicious. We did take-out for memorial day and it was phenomenal!
