This restaurant and location is not for the weak. The patrons were making crazy jokes about killing, being shot in the kneecaps and such topics. I was at the window looking at the taped on paper menu and a guy tapped me and asked me if I was in line.... I said yeah, (I mean it was obvious since I was at the window) and I kid you not... he goes Well you better get in line. And sure enough, he shoved his way in front of me to order. So bizarre cuz there was only 1 other guy behind him. I guess he had no manners and needed to be first! Just a super off the wall crowd piled up all around waiting on their food. Another car pulled up to park with his music blasting so loud that the bass was vibrating his car, the sidewalk. It was all terrible. I only stayed because it had such good reviews and another lady told me it was awesome. It's basically a hole in the wall but actually it's a window in the wall. It's a brick bldg w a small window that you talk and order thru. The staff was nice to me and clarified whether I wanted fries w my jalapeño's wings, which I did not, so she saved me $4 bucks. I ordered the #5, all chicken but it had so much breading and very little chicken. Some of the chicken was really stiff like either grissel or just dried out. The number 5 is orange chicken and sweet n sour chicken. With lo mein noodles and friend rice. $22.99.... if you just get 1 entree, it's $20...so might as well try 2 choices. I've got a super bad stomachache from eating about 6 pieces of chicken and 2 spoons of rice. I also got the jalapeño's wings due to the reviews. They are actually excellent and greasy jalapeño's flavor and chicken cooked well. 2 stars for wings but -2 for the heavily breaded other chicken entrees w barely any chicken. At home, I pulled all the breading off and it's really pathetic that it's 7/8 breading and 1/8 chicken. I've driven by this location for over a decade as it's on the way to my church in S. Phoenix. My wife is a native Phoenician and ate here once decades earlier and wasn't a fan. I recently saw posts on IG for this place and decided to bite the bullet. The jalapeño wings are superb. I had it with the pork fried rice & vegetable lo mein. The rice was good, light on pork but the bean sprouts in it were a nice component I haven't had since the Chinese food of my childhood in Buffalo NY. The veggie lo mein was solid too. Best Chinese take-away in the city. While there is nowhere to sit down, as long as you have a secondary location to bring the food, it will be a great experience. I'd been craving American Chinese food and finally decided to check out this spot that I'd heard about for ages. It's a no-frills, hole-in-the-wall setup--just a single takeout window, a line to order, and people hanging around waiting for their food. I went on a Friday evening, waited about 10 minutes in line to place my order, got a number card, and then waited another 30 minutes for my food to be ready (they call your number when it's up). Unfortunately, there was a mix-up with our order number--we were given a #10 card, but they wrote #1 on the receipt, so we got our food later than we should have. I ordered the Y7 combo (orange chicken with shrimp fried rice). The flavors were great, but the orange chicken was missing any "orange" flavor. The chicken itself was good, though a bit heavy on the breading--about 40% of each piece was just batter. The shrimp fried rice was the highlight: flavorful, with high-quality shrimp that felt fresh. A couple of tips: They accept Visa and Mastercard, but there's a $0.75 fee for card payments, and they don't take Amex (they check your ID if you use a credit card!). If you don't want to wait in line, you can call ahead and place your order, which is probably what I'd do next time. While we won't be rushing back, we'd give it another shot when we're in the mood for good American Chinese food. tonight i decided to try the V3 combo, which is the vegetable egg foo young combo with vegetable fried rice. it was even better than i expected, and my order was still piping hot even when in traffic on the way back! the egg foo young was crispy on the outside and pillowy on the inside, and the gravy was top tier. the gravy somewhat reminded me of KFC's gravy in a good way. as for the vegetable fried rice, it was insanely delicious! it had a generous amount of broccoli that was nice and firm (i'm not too keen on mushy broccoli, so this was a plus) and lots of green onions. i was immensely satisfied with my order, and of course i still had plenty left over afterwards! can't wait to see what i try next... :3 read more

Here's the deal. It takes effort to buy Chinese food here. There is always a line and you gotta physically go down to order and wait for them to hand it to you through the window. Clearly it's worth it because we all do it. Best wings hands down. The shrimp fried rice is better after the wings are laying on it on that combo. If you do get lucky and can order it in you still have to walk up and describe your order you made pay and wait for them to start cooking it. I don't get it. I admit it, I'm dumbfounded. I don't understand. How could so many people say this place is great when I had an absolutely awful group of dishes here? Everything was really pretty bad. And it was a wide variety of dishes. Now I will admit that I didn't order what everyday says to order which is the jalapeño chicken wings. I did order beef and broccoli, kung pao chicken, fried shrimp, egg rolls, and beef with vegetables. It was all worse than mall food. Both beef dishes were completely tasteless. There was no flavor. Just saltiness, which was over-done to such a degree that it was inedible. Everything else was void of flavor. It was like the food had all been covered in clear slime. The kung pao was embarrassing. It was a HUGE PORTION, but it was all filler. The actual chicken was about 2 (if that) ounces of tiny pieces. That's it. The giant mound of food was just rice and vegetables. The kung pao sauce was just pure salty. It had very little flavor. I could taste the oil they used to fry it. And the rice was stiff and tasteless as well. It was like a huge plate of heavy, sauced newspaper. The egg rolls were ok. Super doughy and uncooked inside. Heavy ginger flavor. But the outside was crisp and tasty. And I will give 5-stars to the excellent sweet and sour sauce. The fried shrimp was kind of funny. It was small shrimp and they were coated in the heaviest breading Ive ever seen. So, on the plate, they look huge. But you bite in and they're small shrimp just mass-blanketed in 1/4" thick breading. It's like they have down jackets on but made of dough. I call em "puffer shrimp." But the flavor was good and they were hot and fresh. The service is atrocious, just like everybody says. It's 30-45 minutes wait even on a weekday in the afternoon. No explanation. The front window guy disappears for long periods of time. There is confusion at the window. You can't hear because he also has a mask on. People get cranky and demand their food. Sometimes they call numbers and sometimes they don't. The number cards are random. So you might be 19 but they call long 57 before you. Crazy homeless and drug-addled people mill around. It's organized chaos. So I'm not going back. If you want actual excellent Chinese food, go to George Yang's. This is kitschy because it's a funky window in an old building in a really bad neighborhood. But the food - in my case and in my opinion- was terrible. I've had better food at Panda. I've eaten at every Chinese joint from Buckeye to Tucson and this is not the place for me. I dont get the rave reviews. read more

Waiting is a recurring theme. Pricing is questionable. Sloppiness is a problem. Waiting 1. I waited for a parking spot to become available. The parking lot fits about six vehicles, parking on 7th Ave is non existent and parking on the side street is limited. 2. I waited in line behind multiple other Customers. Considering the 4.5 star rating, I was willing to overlook it. 3. I waited to place my order. Once at the window, the cashier left and didn't return for nearly 10 minutes. No explanation or appreciation for the wait were provided. 4. I waited 15 minutes for the order. Thankfully, it was made to order, so there's that. Price 1. A faded, torn menu is displayed at the window. Between its poor condition and the fact it's behind metal bars, it's very difficult to read. 2. The receipt is not itemized. When I went back to pickup my order, I requested a carry out paper menu. I don't know what I was overcharged for, but the total didn't match the published pricing. 3. Expect to pay an extra $0.75 for paying with a credit card. Sloppiness This was the biggest issue for me. Among the items in my order was Lemon Chicken. I made the "mistake" of setting the bag down on the seat of my car only to find there were SEVERAL ounces of sauce at the bottom of the bag. The sauce is intended to be a coating for the chicken. Instead, it turned out to be a coating for my car seat, clothes and hands. It's as though someone poured the sauce directly to the bottom of the bag, then it leaked.
