I've been to China Chili three times now, so I can safely say it's my favorite Chinese restaurant in town. On my most recent visit, I stopped by on a Friday evening for dinner. They have complimentary parking in the front, side, and back of the restaurant. There aren't a ton of spots, but there's street parking close by too. Ambiance (3.5/5): Like most Chinese restaurants, China Chili is pretty no frills. Which isn't a problem for me at all, I'm there for the food. It's a spacious restaurant with both regular tables and circular tables that rotates (good for large groups sharing dishes). Service (4/5): Fantastic service is also not something I expect at a Chinese restaurant. Yet again, I'm there for the food. With that being said, service, while not overly friendly, is typically pretty efficient. Which I always appreciate. Drinks (4/5): Pretty much your standard soft drinks, tea, and a limited selection of alcoholic beverages. My favorite option is their buddha beer which you don't see in a lot of places. It's a lager and it's in a buddha-shaped bottle. It doesn't get much better than that. Food (5/5): The first time I came was for one of my favorite dishes... Peking duck. There aren't a ton of spots in Phoenix that have it, but out of the ones that do, China Chili serves it at a high level. You can go with either crepes or baos (additional surcharge). The duck is absolutely to die for. Flavorful, juicy meat with crispy skin that fits in perfectly into your mini "sandwich" with green onions and Hoisin sauce. For a reasonable price too. Their food outside of duck is of a similar quality. I especially like their flat noodles with beef. Even classic dishes like sesame chicken have a twist here. It's sliced chicken rather than fully breaded chicken. Just as good as the typical way, the sauce is delicious. My only complaint? They give you a pretty small helping of white rice with your dish. Outside of that, the portions are generous. Everything I've had at China Chili has been a hit. I'm already looking forward to my next visit! read more

I hadn't been to China Chili for a while. They certainly have good service. It's a clean , bright place. I had Tofu dish which was enjoyable. The server made sure i was aware this was a spicy dish. I was given the option of mild or really spicy. I like the fact I didn't have to ask. Really spicy can get me in trouble. My companion had a vegetable dish that came wrapped in light tortillas. Both had nice flavors I think. The sauces were appropriate, not heavy at all.. This is the first time I have had Chinese food in some time. I can't say more. Many people there early on Sunday but not overly noisy, they also have take out. My server wrapped my food up nicely to take with me and put in a bag. Quite a nice touch. read more

This review is for two take out orders. The first time I ordered by calling the restaurant, the second time I used Door Dash. Both experiences worked very. I ordered dinner the first time and picked it up and had it delivered the second time. I have now eaten the duck, three chow meins, rice, green beans, a vegetable dish, egg rolls and crab puffs. Crab cheese puffs were excellent (just not enough of them). Loved the lemon chicken, and although I don't like eggplant, this spicy garlic was great disguising the eggplant! Both chow meins were yummy. Can't decide which one I liked the best. I didn't feel like a needed to drink a lot of water after eating which sometimes I feel like after Chinese food. The best thing on our $127 (before tip- for takeout?) meal was the green beans... with the fried rice and orange chicken earning a 3 star. Everything else was not good with the worst thing on the menu being the sichuan beef not even edible. I wouldn't feed that to my dog. Nothing was spicy" and we ordered spicy for everything except the sesame chicken and the rice. The hot & sour soup was tasteless ... my husband ate a little of it but I ended up flushing what was left down the toilet. The crab puffs were flat... 6 of them for almost $9 ... stupid. What a freaking gem. Came here for the first time and can genuinely say this is the best Chinese food spot in Phoenix, probably Arizona. Walked in and was immediately transferred back to the old school Chinese restaurants back east. We did the Phoenix dinner for 2 and substituted the pork for orange chicken. Everything was absolutely delicious. First came out the salad which was super flavorful and fresh. Fresh lettuce, noodles, amazing dressing and super tender chicken slices. It came with two wontons which were also soo good. Perfectly crisp and filled with a cream cheese stuffing that complimented the salad perfectly. Hot and sour soup was next and while that's not usually my favorite soup, it was great and had depth in the flavor. Then came our entrees, huge in size and definitely worth the price. The kung pao chicken had delicious flavor and veggies were perfectly cooked. The fried rice was not your average, it had chicken, shrimp and the most tender beef. The orange chicken was definitely my favorite. You can tell they use breast and the crisp on the outside was so perfect, sauce was sweet with a little kick, just perfect. Service was insightful, quick and friendly. I ordered the mongolian beef and the lady taking the order said it's gonna have a lot of onions and I said ok yeah as long as it has enough meat it's fine. Well I get my plate and it has so much onions and barely any meat. I let one of the workers know and the manager comes over and tries to argue with me. Lunch with friends, my first time here. Soup of the day brought and served. Hot & sour was pretty tasty. Noon, and this place filled up, it is popular. I ordered the lunch sweet and sour prawns. Large serving brought out quickly. Prawns were good sized, fresh tasting. Batter somewhat thick, but crunchy. Big portion of perfect white rice, a medium size, crispy egg roll. The sauce was perfect! Crisp bites of green pepper, carrot, onion and fresh pineapple complemented the prawns. Iced tea was fresh, service was pleasant and efficient. Place is spacious and clean. This is now my favorite Chinese restaurant in town, and on the return rotation list for our lunch group. read more

The place is old really old inside a little run down. It's big tables have a huge lazy susie to share plates. But I can honestly say food was great fresh and taste awesome. But keep an eye on your bill you can't understand the ticket they wrote your order it's hand added and I'll tell you 3 people at our large party that we had separate bills where off by 12 to 18 dollars. read more

The food has always been very good every time we visit. Which sadly isn't that often because it's a drive to get there. If I lived closer I'd eat there at least twice a week. The service is efficient because everyone shares the load. You don't just have one server. The ambiance is your typical large dining hall Chinese restaurant. A large open room with various sized tables with the typical paper table covers and zodiac paper place mats. If you don't know the vibe you don't get out for Chinese much. On to the food. For appetizers we got the BBQ pork slices. Very good but not anything great or special. I'd stick with the pot stickers for my appetizer of choice. Get the pork in an entree or the fried rice. For our soup choice we went with the sizzling rice soup. Very good with sliced chicken breast and veggies. And the rice actually sizzles. Since unlike some other restaurants it doesn't have shrimp or pork I might choose something else next time. Entrees. The star of the show in my opinion and others is the orange chicken. Not your standard chunks breaded and fried soaked in a sweet sugar syrup but a full chucked breast breaded and fried to a perfect crisp then sliced like a katsu and covered in a slightly sweet and slightly spicy sauce with hint of orange. I could eat this all by myself and be happy. Next we got the Mongolian Beef. Average. Not great, not bad, just average. Too saucy with too many onions. Nothing compares to China Chef in Morton Grove, IL. The pork fried rice. Pretty good with lots of bbq pork. Way more than you get in the slices. My only gripe with most places is there's no place for carrots and peas in fried rice. Bean sprouts and scallions is the way to go. But here it's the frozen veg carrots and peas combo. Oh well. Next time I think it will be mu shu pork instead of Mongolian and hot and sour instead of sizzling rice soup. One other comment. Like most restaurants in AZ. The egg rolls are really spring rolls. Hard pass as real egg rolls have won ton wrapper skins, shrimp and bbq pork with a hint of peanut butter in them. Outside of NY or Chicago I've never found the real deal. read more

i haven't eaten from here in about two years, which makes me feel like somewhat of a cheater. however, the food still tasted as great as it did the first time! this go-around, i ordered beef egg foo young (been craving the dish for a WHILE, and was satisfied to have my wish fulfilled) with jasmine rice. i was pleasantly surprised to see that my order was followed exactly to the letter, and there were no mistakes or missing items. my only itch was that it was a tad greasy, but obviously no one's eating here for the health benefits. i'm proud to say that i ate my plate clean last friday. :) read more

Probably the best fried rice I've had in awhile! Picked up some food to bring to the hospital. I ordered over the phone amd was ready by the time I got there. I ordered the shrimp lo mein. The dish was flavorful, the noodles were perfect, and came with a great amount of shrimp. The vegetable fried rice was also a great balance. Not too greasy. Light and tasty. Lastly, the house special chicken was very filling. The chicken chunks alone were huge. It actually tasted like real chicken too. The location, service, and ambiance - absolutely 5 stars! However, the food is a bit ok the salty side for me, hence the 4-star rating. As the photo shows, we ordered some meat dishes and some veggie dishes. The eggplant with chicken was my favorite. The pan fried noodles' dish is crispy and flavorful. We ordered a couple vegetarian dishes for a friend who is vegan and she felt accommodated with the Kai Lan and mixed vegetables that were picked out for her. I'll probably go back only if a meeting or a banquet is being hosted there. Side note: Parking could be a bit tricky for large banquets. read more

In the early-mid 1990s, with the rise of Panda Express and mall-style Chinese food, the experience of true Chinese fine dining was largely lost. China Chilli is a refreshing reminder of what Chinese restaurants used to be--and should still be. This place stayed true to its roots. No sushi. No pad Thai. No unnecessary fusion trying to please everyone. Just classic Chinese cuisine served the way it was meant to be enjoyed. I especially appreciated that they still have tablecloths, chandeliers and a family-style classic dining atmosphere, which is incredibly rare these days and instantly sets the tone. The service was efficient, the food came out quickly, and everything was well-paced and well-executed. Honestly, it exceeded my expectations in every way. Please keep this place original. Restaurants like this are becoming harder and harder to find. I will definitely be coming back. read more

Visited China Chili, for lunch with some friends and it was super busy! Luckily we got sat really quickly. Our waitress was really friendly, and attentive. I was really surprised at how fast my food came out! I got the orange chicken, with fried rice. The orange chicken tasted good, it was different than any I had tasted before. The fried rice, didn't really taste like fried rice to me, it tasted like just regular brown rice, and the veggie egg roll they gave me was a bit bitter. A very good sign when you walk in at 7:30pm and the restaurant is packed. Everything we had was amazing. The hot and sour soup and the orange chicken need to be singled out.
