They were great for our last-minute request. They came the next day to pick up furniture that couldn't get through the door of my new apartment and bring it down to a family member's house on Cape Cod and then bring back a smaller piece of furniture. They arrived on time, personable and in problem-solving mode. They actually managed to bring one of the pieces in through Herculean efforts -- where two other movers had failed. That was pretty impressive. First, because it wasn't part of the job description and second, because it was really a tough maneuver. They took it seriously. While frustrated that they seemed to be dragging their feet to make this unfortunate situation right, we're ultimately pleased with the way it turned out. I just used Pony Express for my first mover-aided move, and they made me wonder why I ever moved myself. Andy and his whole crew were friendly, neat, and fast, and managed to cram our whole house worth of stuff (plus a storage unit) into three neatly-arranged 18' trucks with ease. Shane even broke down and reassembled our giant Ikea shelf like it was nothing, and even spouted some Young Ones references to make us feel like we weren't so terribly old compared to the rest of the crew. My wife and I are renovating the 2nd floor of our house. We needed to completely move-out of our bedroom and move-in to another bedroom. As simple as it sounds, it took a bunch of planning to figure out where to put everything, how to store what wouldn't fit elsewhere and how to get it done. I would describe them as professional, efficient and careful with our items and would use them again/recommend them to others. This was my first experience with professional movers (other than hiring a few college kids off Craigslist). I was really impressed with the care they demonstrated with our furniture and how efficiently and safely they packed up their truck. Their rates are very competitive and include their supplies (my sister had used a company that tacked on other charges outside of their quote for using a dolly. Seriously.) I signed up to use Pony Express because of all of the positive Yelp reviews. The first move out of my apartment went very well. I had packed boxes, and they moved them efficiently. They stored these items for me, and then delivered them efficiently as well. Happy with the service, I wrote the check and signed the papers. Then I noticed that 2 folding chairs were missing. They said, no problem, we will bring them by tomorrow or the next day. I never heard from them. I called 2 days later, and asked when these chairs were coming, and was then told the next AM between 9-10a. The chairs never came, my family had been waiting during the allotted time. The chairs came the next day, but not until after the allotted time. The movers were very nice people, but ultimately there's only one thing a moving company has to do--deliver my furniture to the right place in one piece, no excuses. read more

I just had the pleasure of using Pony Express to move my VERY HEAVY furniture from my third floor walk-up apartment today into a Door-to-Door moving container. They were excellent at getting my furniture down the stairs (which was no small feat) and were happy to puzzle-piece as many items as possible into the unit. While they admitted it may have been better to have straps to help bring down some of the furniture, that didn't stop them from bringing everything down by hand. These guys were worth every penny! Not to mention they were incredibly friendy, easy going (we swore everything should fit in the container as long as our calculations were right...and they were happy to oblige us). Also the hourly rate made it easy to know exactly what I was paying for. Having these guys come to move all my stuff was worth every penny and an easy and enjoyable experience. Do not even bother. Used them last summer moving from one third-floor apartment to another. I had sent an itemized list of what I needed a few weeks ahead of time and received a quote for two movers for two hours for an hourly rate of $150. Then, the day before the move, they contacted me saying actually they'd need three movers and the price would be higher than I was told because I needed something hoisted and it would be $186/hour. When the final move was completed, it was over $600 not including tip and the "travel time" from the lot to my apartment was listed as 30 minutes--I could have walked there in 5 minutes tops. They left several boxes and bins at my old apartment that I had to move myself. Two of the movers were very nice, but one complained constantly and then asked one of my roommates on a date...while her dad was there helping her move. (She said no.) I didn't remember how horrible this whole experience was until I used different movers this summer for a fraction of the price with amazing results. read more

These guys are great. Our crew was Nick, Isaac and the new guy. All 3 were professional & hard working. We were moving from Brighton to Salem and had the move scheduled for 2 PM. They were an hour late but gave us an extra guy to help speed our move up for the price of 2. Once the guys came, they were quick and careful. I didn't have to say or do anything once I showed them what didn't need to be moved. Unloading was easy too as they would ask us where things went (unless it was labelled) and not just put stuff where it was convenient. They also took care when moving a giant bookcase that I had assembled up in my apartment. I would recommend them in a heartbeat. read more

I have used Pony Express for two moves now -- one in-state and one across-states. Both moves were great -- the guys were all friendly and took pride in their work, they worked quickly and carefully, and they were very professional. Both times, I had a lot of fun on what would otherwise be a very stressful day because the guys were all so pleasant to be around. Prices are totally fair, and they were really flexible to my needs (including adding a second drop-off point in my across-state move). They were quick to respond to any slight problem (e.g. next-day shipping a small vacuum attachment that was left in the truck), very patient with awkward building regulations around moving, and quite crafty with New York City parking. The booking experience was also exceedingly simple, and the person on the other end of the email was polite, patient, and helpful in providing me quotes, packing tips, and helping me figure out the logistics of the move. I've had my fair share of rough experiences with movers in the past, and now that I've found a company that is reliable, accommodating, and pleasant to work with, I really appreciate how much it matters to hire movers you can trust. Although every experience is unique, having two fantastic experiences with four different guys gives me confidence in Pony Express. read more

We found these guys on Yelp, and I'm glad we went with them. Things to like: 1. Professional, courteous and friendly 2. Same rates all year round ($108 per hour for a two-man team and a truck was what they quoted us) 3. They even helped with some unrelated work in the house while they were still on the clock (disassembling a bed they hadn't moved) Things not to like: They arrived about forty-five minutes late. But to their credit, they admitted they had gotten off to a late start, they got right to work and they didn't charge us for the extra time. In fact, I think they went over their two hours but charged us for two. I would use them again, and would definitely recommend them to others. read more

I've moved many times, but this was the first time I used a professional moving service. I had a great experience! Brian and Jeff showed up on time, worked quickly and efficiently, and finished under the original time estimate. They also gave me updates along the way (i.e. "about 20 more minutes and we'll be done loading"). Both movers were polite and friendly. I requested estimates from three movers based on Yelp reviews. I chose Pony Express based on the distance from their shop to my house (the clock starts when they leave their facility). Their estimate wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive, but in the end, I think I got a pretty good deal! read more

I finally heard back from the company owner after I posted my online rant. Josh informed me that he was away on vacation during all my correspondance with his company. He also told me the employee that did minimal work during my move is no longer employed with Pony Express. I was able to be refunded for the cost of one of the movers and was given an additional $160 discount. The piece of furniture that was damaged was replaced with a brand new item (same exact item) assembled by the owner himself and delivered to my home. As I stated in my initial review, I have used this company multiple times in the past and was always satisfied. My most recent experience was not ideal but hopefully it was just a fluke. Based on all the other reviews, I can only assume that is what it was. read more

I used Pony Express Movers last week for a move from one side of the neighborhood to the other and I can't speak highly enough about the experience. I booked the appointment through email with their staff, and even though I was booking on the later side for a September 1 move they were responsive, laid back and helpful. I was given a reasonable quote (a third of some other companies out there!!!!) and given all the details about what to expect, how things would work, etc. Day of, I had three great movers whose shirts said "friendly and professional" and that was exactly what they were. They were speedy, friendly and total gentlemen (no offense moving companies, but the thought of being a female alone in an apartment with three strong men had me a little irrationally nervous). I was even reprimanded for trying to help! I was floored by how quickly things moved, even when a door had to be taken off its hinges to get a couch in my new place. I should also add that I was moving out of a fifth floor apartment - no fun task - but they had a sense of humor about it. Now that I am totally unpacked, I can report ZERO damage even with the speediness! Bottom line - great company to move with, great people to spend an afternoon chatting with. read more

I had to move a few items of furniture from out of state. Everything about the service I received from Pony Movers was smooth and stress-free. As they were able to consolidate my small move with other jobs in the area, the price was the best I found for the job. Very good crew who helped me get things in the right place. Only one small complaint - it would have been helpful to have a phone number on both days to coordinate arrival times, since the crew arrived early both days, and somehow on delivery the crew had a completely wrong phone number that they had tried to reach me on. When I called the office nobody was picking up - this was the missing link in the customer service chain. But overall, look, moving is so stressful and Pony Express made it painless. read more

The moving service provided by Pony Express was fantastic. Both movers were very capable and nice people. They certainly knew what they were doing and went above and beyond to secure and protect our large and fragile pieces of furniture. I enjoyed working alongside them very much. The only thing I would critique is the paid commuting time to and from JP/Beacon Hill (45 minutes each way / 1.5 hours total) as well as the time between moving locations (25 minutes for less than 1 mile) was a bit excessive - although I didn't push back on this at the time of payment because they did such a great job. Yes, these guys are that good! I've moved (I'm not kidding) six times in the last two years and these guys are, hands down, the hardest working, fairest, easiest to work with movers I've ever hired. Josh, the owner, is top shelf and these guys show up on time, don't charge you a hundred bucks for bs like tape (in fact they only charge you for their hourly rate). They bring their own boxes, blankets, tape, etc., and it's all included in their hourly rate. I've hired them twice and would never think of hiring any other mover. It's kind of a rogue industry (movers) and Pony Express is a true gem in what can be a dirty gravel pile. read more

If you are moving, use Pony Express. I booked over the phone with Maureen, who is just great. I listed all the things I had to move, she listened carefully and gave me solid advice - including a way for me to save money! And when I called her the day before the move, in a panic that one truck wouldn't be big enough, she just added a truck and a guy for the exact price she had quoted the week before, and that was that. Awesome. On moving day, Isaac, Billy and Jeff were amazing. About 5 seconds after meeting them I was sure nothing would get scratched, lost or broken during the move. I was right. They were on time, cheerful, flexible, thoughtful, careful, and wouldn't let me do anything. They handled all the furniture and boxes with the same (or greater) care I would have used. As Maureen said up front, there are no hidden fees (for gas, furniture pads, tape, whatever), so nothing to add to my stress. 5 stars! read more

I used Pony Express to move locally from Roxbury to Brookline. They were incredibly helpful in the booking process and explained exactly how their fees worked. I had a few questions via email as well, and I always got a response within 24 hours. So it was Pony Express. I can't say enough about what an honest well meaning person the owner is. He remembered my exact mover and his mistake in hiring him, as well as the desk person. Those people were later let go, IIRC. He explained what he learned from the situation during that very busy time of expansion for him. God forbid I have to move again soon, but if I would I would trust Pony Express to do it just on the strength of how the owner has been with me in cleaning this up. They deserve your business...be happy to give a local, customer-oriented sincere small business owner your money...it will be a win/win. read more
