Extremely disappointed. I've been taking my dog here for the last two years, but my most recent experience was the last straw. Firstly, my dog came home with a rash which looks to be razor burn, likely from the groomer cutting too close or perhaps a dull blade. I'm confident it's razor burn because the rash begins exactly where the hair is buzzed completely off, which I will share a photo of what it looks like. Secondly, they cut his hair completely different than what I asked for. Jason, who is the owner, was actually the one who checked my dog in, so I was shocked to see that the cut I told him I wanted was completely wrong. If for some reason they were not able to give me the cut I asked for, it would have been nice to receive a courtesy phone call. Thirdly, there was a younger guy working the front desk when I arrived. He was incredibly kind but seemed to be new there. He had no support from anyone in the back and it was a disaster when I went to pick up my dog. I could hear the employees complaining in the back and overall just being rude to each other. Not sure they realized I could hear them but it was very off putting. Stay away! They obviously take more animals than they can handle in a given day. I have been to PP quite a few times and although they usually have done a decent job. This last time, 2/21, was completely unacceptable and unprofessional. I dropped off my dog at 10:30, he did have a scheduled appt., btw. I called at 2:00 to get status and he was not ready. Because I had an appt to get to myself and they close at 4 on Sat. I drove down at 3:30 to get my dog concerned that they had already had him for 5 hours. He was far from ready, in fact still wet, and shaggy and not trimmed as requested. See pics. Now, they tried to get me to leave him but I was already PO'd and really could not spare the time I took Bert home. I got a 'sorry' from the receptionist and "Its a Saturday, we are very busy." When I informed her that I had an appt, she replied, "everyone does". So they basically will take as many pets as crates they have and will get to your pet as they can. Whether Bert was given water remains to be seen. But, I find it completely unacceptable to crate my pet for over 5 hours with no water and to not complete his service, basic bath and sanitary trim, within 5 hours on any given day. I did receive a call from the young receptionist who unfortunately bore my wrath, because management was too chicken$hit to call an unsatisfied customer themselves. She informed me that they would void my transaction, which I did appreciate. I previously overlooked little concerns I had here because of the proximity to my home, but I should have seen them as signs. I've taken my dogs here roughly 4 times since October 2011. The first 3 visits were perfect: my dogs were groomed and I picked them up happy. The wait was reasonable and the turn-around was pretty quick. The customer service was pretty good and they were easy to talk to. The reason they're getting 2 stars is because my most recent visit was terrible (I'm giving them 2 stars instead of 1). Both my dogs had red marks on their backs (approximately 3 inches long, 1 to 1.5 inches wide), as if their hair was pulled. Best new small business! This pooch spa is a refreshingly vibrant, Silverlake-like shop in an otherwise sleepy stretch of businesses along Chevy Chase. With Skaf's and Eden's Wine Bar down the street, looks like East Glendale is coming up WOOT WOOT! Finding a cat groomer can be difficult with kitty's inherent bitchiness around water and clippers. This is why getting kitty allergen-free is a task I don't mind paying for. So from time to time, I drop trou and get my Persian shaved. After multiple lacerations and attempted swats across the face, one quickly learns that sometimes you really need to consult a professional. Which leads me to the folks at Pooch Pawlor. These guys are AWESOME! They must be kitty whisperers because I've never gotten a glowing, A+ report card from any of my previous groomers. While my Persian, a "shim"--because he's too pretty to be a boy :) , can be a nasty wench, he's pretty good with grooming by cat standards--but an A+?? NEVER! Meow Meow is sensitive around his butt, but seems to have been receptive to whatever it is they did to his anal glands because he came out sparkling clean! The only ding: I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the $65 charge. It's $20 more than what I pay at my regular groomer, but he wasn't available and I was desperate because I'd run out of Claritin RediTabs. But then again, they had awesome customer service from booking the appointment, the front desk reception, those cute little paper report cards and frequent client incentive cards. These people seemed nice and I was looking forward to cashing in my Groupon, but I realized later that they cut my pup's nose, it got infected and he now needs stitches. I've had to take my pup into the vet twice because we didn't know why he was bleeding a little with a kind of watery discharge. You cannot touch his head without his yelping. My poor baby. And I have incurred a large vet bill as a result. The people at Pooch Pawelor called me in response to an email I sent them in this regard and then proceeded to TAPE THE CONVERSATION WITHOUT FIRST TELING ME, WHICH IS ILLEGAL. I thought they were nice people but people who do this are just not nice. My pup is on antibiotics. He will have to have his nose stitched together and I have a hefty vet bill. NEVER AGAIN!!! I have asked Groupon to reimburse me for all my coupons and have cancelled my membership. He's going in tomorrow for the procedure. NEVER AGAIN!!! SO FURIOUS!!! They pulled the skin off my dog around the eyes!! (see my pictures uploaded) Their excuse?! My dog had too much eye gunk and the machine got stuck and pulled the skin off. OH REALLY!?!? -----First of all, WHY ARE THEY PUTTING A MACHINE AROUND MY DOGS EYES!!!!! That's what the shears are for -----Secondly, they took 4 hours to groom both my Yorkies, but they didn't have enough time to soak off the gunk? I have always groomed my dogs at home and it takes me about 20 min to get them washed up and remove all the stuff around the eyes. To add to this, they cut her hair nicely around the body, but the face...OMG! She's choppy everywhere and they didn't even touch the ears. She looked like Dumbo when we got home. We had to do damage control and cut all the hair around the ears. How is it OK to have a size 1 1/2 around the body but about 3 inches on the ears!?! This was my first time taking my dogs to a groomer and unfortunately my last! The guy in front was really nice and I was hoping for a better experience. I'm sad to have to take back my prior stellar review. Seems things have changed here, or the service just isn't consistent. I got my dog back from the last grooming appointment and I am still mad up to now. FIRST, as soon as I picked up my dog from the 5 hour session,he was DEHYDRATED. He drank two full bowls of water without even looking up. Would it KILL them to give him some water? This is CRUEL. And it was humid and HOT in there. SECOND, if you don't pick up your dog within the hour of them calling you to tell you, you get charged a overstay rate. They take your dog, leave him in the kennel until they are ready to groom, and then call you when they are done so it's entirely up to you to come scrambling back. Why don't they just stop overbooking and have a set grooming time? It can take anywhere from 2 hours to 5 hours. They can't even be sure at the desk. THIRD, I requested the round, teddy bear look, and instead I got a rat like or eel face, with all the hairs cut off above the nose! The hairs were cut soo short that now the rest of his face is scrappy but the hairs on top still barely cover his nose. There was a similar dog that came just before us, and she requested the stained fur around the eyes be shaved down, and when I picked up, it seemed like SHE got the teddy cut and MY dog got the shaved cut. When I called them out on this, they said the fur was already short and they could not do a teddy cut. Weird because they did one before and my dog had not gotten a cut after that. UGH I'm so frustrated with them I don't think I could go back, JUST because of the first point. read more

I am always skeptical when I see all 5 stars reviews on yelp for any business....but after searching for a good groomer for my rescue for months (tried west LA, Pasadena, downtown), I was impressed when I read the other reviews on yelp for Pooch Pawlor. So I made an appointment and waited with bated breath when they took my baby in. When I got Yoda (my dog) back, he was looking amazing....no matts, shiny and silky coat, perfect trim. I even got a compliment at the dog park that he looks like a show dog! I can't praise these guys enough....reasonable prices, excellent results, great service, and the best part is that they really care about what they do. They are so patient with rescues, especially since mine is scared of scissors (given his history) and jumps a lot. They normally take as much time as needed to ensure the owner and the dog are both happy with the process. He truly is talented and you can see how caring he is with what we all consider our babies. I asked Floyd to help me out with my two older Persian cats. One has seizures and is very fragile.. the other is normally a little snot but... She was so relaxed I was shocked!! Floyd took his time... even with how thin and soft Romeos skin is, Floyd got the job done quick and with absolutely no mark or cut on his (or hers) delicate body. *Pawlor Experience - We just picked up our little Shih-Poo Padme up from her Pawlor Experience and she looks darling. They listened to what I wanted and even had a guidance chart with the length of hair you want to cut off of your pooch (#5, #4, etc.) This helped a lot. *Affordability - Much more affordable than their Petsmart/Petco counterpart and definitely 100Xs the quality. The groomers were friendly and patient with my pooch. Petsmart told me that I'll never be able to get her groomed professionally and even charged me extras fees to deal with my dog...Pooch Pawlor had no problem with grooming my pup, even when she's squirmy when it's time for a nail trim. I somehow always leave Petsmart spending over $100 on grooming including tips...of course when Petsmart adds more fees for nail trimming and that additional fee to deal with my squirmy pup, it cost will keep on piling. At Pooch Pawlor, the nail trimming, ear cleaning, anal expression, bath, and grooming are all included with their price. Awesome! *Location - On Chevy Chase and Glenoaks, near Verdugo.
