We ended up here after trying to go to a similar place that was cash only. The place was not busy on a weekend dinner time. We ordered a char mozzarella burger, monster burger (3 patties) and a char polish sausage and an order of fries. You can have all your sandwiches topped how you would like it. They are definitely char burgers as an individual in our party did not like the "burnt" parts. Decent sized burgers and decently priced as well. The service was quick and made to order. This is the only location of Poochie's around.

Great place to grab burgers, hotdogs and shakes. I use to come her a lot when I was pregnant and living in Evanston back in the day. Satisfied my In &Out cravings. The place is a nice spot for a quick lunch. They got plenty of seating and free parking.

I hadn't been there for years. Not much has changed. The char on the sandwich is excellent and the fries are crisp. I was looking forward to the charred salami, which is an old favorite. I find the meat bland and pretty tasteless which was a great disappointment.

I ordered the 2 hot dog special that comes with fries and a drink. The hot dogs are Vienna Bee natural casing dogs with all of the Chicago style toppings. The toppings are super fresh with just the right amount of condiments to not overwhelm the dog. The fresh cut fries are fluffy and crisp. They are a piece of eatable art. This place is super clean and the staff is really chill. Love all the sports memorabilia on the walls.

I've been going to Poochie's for years, and this hot dog eatery has been around since '69, serving up hot dogs, sausages, burgers, sandwiches, dinner plates (salami, chicken breast, brisket, and skirt steak), salads, soups, chili, and shakes/malts. I haven't been a fan of their char dogs and burgers lately, but when I get a craving for Cheddar Fries (that uses Merkt's), I come here. The waffle fries are generously topped with Merkt's cheddar sauce that is super thick, cheesy, and salty. Sometimes, they don't mix the cheese sauce well so it gets a little clumpy, or there is some separation issue. Service is always friendly, and I love the decor of the place with the Chicago memorabilia. Parking is available in the small lot. +Cheddar Fries! +small lot for parking

Stopped for lunch as I had this bookmarked to try. I ordered a cheddar burger and char Chicago style dog. The dog came as a combo with fry and drink. The dog was on the skinner side which I prefer. I liked the char on the dog which was new for me and overall had good meld of flavors. The cheddar burger was just fair. I've definitely had Better in the desplaines area and would not order it again here. The fries were top notch. My cherry coke didn't have much cherry flavor and could use some calibration.

Still amazing! I wish I could take a picture of food but I literally inhale it, lol. It is still my favorite spot in Skokie and still plan my trips to the old neighborhood around eating at Poochie's. Thanks Poochie's!

It's more than a little hole-in-the-wall place... it's modern, but not too modern. Bigger than a stand, but not that big. It has TVs on the wall, but not exactly a sports bar. So it's kinda in the middle. Anyway... Poochie's is a nice local Skokie spot for hot dogs (or char dogs) and burgers. The place is clean, the food is great (if you like those earthy kind of fries, where they're skin-on and hot and a bit limp from the oil) and the staff seems like they like being there. Of course, I had the maxwell polish which was char'd up nicely. I should be back shortly to try some burgers!

5 stars for excellent customer service! It's a classic hot dog and burger place, with some interesting menu items, enough that I'll have to go back and try more of them. But what really struck our family was the friendly banter from the staff while they were adding the toppings, and the fact that they thanked us for coming. Little social niceties like that, that made us feel especially welcome. It's a relatively small place, but has a decent amount of seating. Casual, diner-style. You order your food at the register, but they wait till after it's cooked to ask what you want on it. Toppings are added right before they hand it to you. The toppings are generous and the food is tasty! We'll definitely be back!

    Do they offer kosher hotdogs?

    Yes

Was this the poochies from Palos back in the 80's? If so, why don't they make the special burgers anymore? My favorite was the banana cheeseburger and peanut butter shake!

Sorry, I wouldn't know. I've only been in Skokie since early 2000's.

Does this place sell corn dogs? Does any place near here sell corn dogs?

They do not have corn dogs. Herms Palace and little Island have them.

First thing, I was disappointed they had no hot dog special, you know, like 2 hot dogs, fries and a drink for x dollars. It was all a la cart. And one hot dog was $5.05, fries not included. I decided to get the Herm's special, which is supposed to be a 1/2 lb. Cheeseburger with fries and a drink. It was $18.55 so i figured it was going to be on par with Five Guys, which charges around $21 but you get a ton of fries and a really good burger. Ok, I'm waiting for my dinner. Here's where it goes off the rails... While I'm sitting, waiting for my food, the guy is making a hot dog for another customer. He's holding the bun in his left hand (no gloves), while applying the condiments. After he's done, he takes money from the customer with the same hand, and proceeds to make another hot dog, with the same unwashed hand. That's a major red flag. My burger arrived shortly after that. The burger? Good but undersized for the price. The fries were thin and average at best. Small portion for the price. I had to use the bathroom downstairs, and it was out of soap. Another red flag there. Look, Poochie's is better, cheaper, cleaner, and right down the road. Sorry, but I was disappointed with Herm's.

The hot dog was pretty good, fries (Crinkle cut) were also good. Place was pretty crowded. Overall, I'd eat there again, if I'm in the neighborhood, but you have a go with the special of the day, or it's expensive. The cons? Seating was very tight. We sat at a table of 4, and our backs were right on top of the person in back of us. Also, service was slow, considering it was just a hot dog, but like I said, it was busy. Since then, I have off-and-on ordered from nearby restaurants yet with an interest in revisiting Dear Franks at some point. It was not until I recently discovered its veggie and plant-based items on the menu when I made it a high priority to visit, being that I am now a vegetarian. After attending training at my job which sits no more than a mile from Dear Franks, I made my visit. Its location sits along W Touhy Ave amongst a mixture of restaurants and shopping stores that are relevant to the community of Niles. I was acknowledged shortly after I walked in and up to the counter to look at the menu which was plastered above the counter. It took me some time to look at the menu because the menu online differed from the menu onsite above the counter. I had a taste for a veggie hot dog, but I did not see it featured on the menu above the counter, figuring that it was no longer an option at the time. So, I ended up ordering their veggie burger, fries, and a drink which was completed within several minutes. While paying, I could not help but notice Turano products near the register. Turano baking company, a family-owned bakery that produces authentic and delicious breads. I drive by Turano's daily enroute to my primary job and it is hard not to notice its building exterior, which has a commanding presence. Being that I have had the interest in visiting Turano's for some time now, I ended up purchasing a Turano - chocolate chunk cookie to go along with my veggie burger, fries, and drink. Maybe now after purchasing the chocolate chunk cookie, it will urge me to visit its location in Berwyn. I chose to dine-in at Dear Franks since I had plenty of time in my day, plus I figured that I still had time to beat the traffic on Edens Expressway enroute back to Chicago. The inside of Dear Franks appeared clean, and the atmosphere gave off a sporty vibe with pictures of Chicago sports teams, and iconic sporting moments in history of those teams featured. And there are a number of tables with seats available inside of the dining area, plus a television plastered on the wall near the entrance for viewing pleasure as you eat. The crinkle-cut fries were the first item I started off with eating. Though not as good as Portillo's crinkle-cut fries, ketchup certainly complimented them well. From that point on, I could not resist eating them all after the addition of ketchup. I moaned in enjoyment after my first bite of the veggie burger; it was garnished with everything I requested such as ketchup, mustard, lettuce, and tomatoes! It was very satisfying indeed. Taking note of everything I experienced: service, ambiance, and food, I have to say that it was a good experience. And with that I would gladly re-visit Dear Franks of Niles again whenever in the Niles area. Service: 4 | Ambiance: 4 | Food: 5 ~Nourish your soul. ~ Thomas G

It was almost 11pm (they're open until 2am on Fridays.) and there were at least a dozen other vehicles in their drive-in stalls. We were eating in our rental car in apx 10 min. It was cool to eat outside on a warm July night in a classic, 1950s style drive-in. The food was excellent, flavorful and fresh. I normally avoid krinkle cut fries because they are usually frozen and mushy or mealy. Not Superfries. These fresh cut fries were practically fried mashed potatoes. We loved them! The drinks were perfect. The Black Kows is basically a root beer float and served with an extra root beer "sidecar." Our only complaints were about errors with the garnishes. We specifically said we wanted all the garnishes on both dawgs and they only gave us the standard grilled onions on the Whoopskidawg and forgot the sport peppers on the Superdawg. There was a steady stream of phone orders coming in for pick up, and the restaurant was busy overall. We were helped right away and the staff at the counter were so friendly. We grabbed a table and our drinks from the fountain machine and only waited a few minutes for the number on our receipt to be called with our order. The food here is so fresh and delicious. This is one of the best Maxwell street sausages I've had around, the bread was perfect and soft inside and crispy on the outside with the sausage split and grilled and perfectly sweet caramelized onions. The fries looked like they came in frozen/pre-cut but were fried up perfect and a generous portion. The Gyro came stacked with meat, it wasn't dry, and had great flavor. Because the food was so delicious I decided to grab a piece of baklava to go, which I was assured was homemade and delicious - and they were right. So sweet, fresh, textured, rich, luxurious. Don't skip the baklava when you stop by! This is definitely a spot that will be added to our regular rotation of lunch/dinner spots around town.
