We got our pool cover installed by them but unfortunately experienced issues with how it moves and then it came off the rails. Trying to get the service manager to give us an appointment is like pulling teeth. No one ever calls back unless I call multiple times. And scheduling is "10 to 20 business days out" from any day you call. I had a similar experience to Jay F. I don't need to do the food fight yelp review but it was a very similar experience. I think these people are actually ok at fixing pool covers but they are expensive and the customer service stinks as you can see in the owners defensive replies to all the critical feedback. We similarly didnt get an "I'm sorry" or a "Please let us know how we can make sure you feel good about working with us". Instead we got a "you're wrong and i dont care what you think about it". We had our pool cover installed by this company last summer and the level of service has been SUPERB. We have dealt with Tyler on the sales side as well as Erin in the office later for some minor follow up. Knowledgeable, courteous, reliable, punctual, ethical....the list goes on. Tyler provided excellent consultation as to our options, the installation tech guy was courteous and very hard working. A few months later a couple of very minor issues came up that they jumped on rapidly and scheduled a tech to come resolve within less than a week. New cover fully warrantied but it would not open after a month, Called numerous times on numerous days to speak to Zack who sold me the cover. No answer or return of calls. We've had questionable interactions with this company from the very beginning in terms of what was pitched and how the actual installation went. But the main problem is what they promised and what the product actually does. We were looking for a safety cover but also a cover that would maintain the heat. Not a solar cover, we didn't expect it to heat the water, but at least keep the heat for quite a while. The pitch promised a Summer extension of 3 months. Yet after I heat the pool, after 3 days the water is ice cold, and this happened during the hot summer last year during the drought. Full heat summer week, I heat the pool up and within days the water is cold. No heat retention whatsoever. When we questioned them about their false promise and misleading advertisement, we just got lectured, dismissed and ignored. Horrible company ethics, really poor customer service, false advertisement, do not recommend at all. Stay away from them Re: Comment from Claire K. of Pool Covers Business Owner Except that none of it happened as you just described. We were not expecting a heater, just a cover for security and a cover that would retain heat. The pitch from the person who initially came by was that the cover was going to extend our Summer by three months (his words). There was never any mention of having to constantly heat our pool. My question to him was "So I can heat our pool once to around 85F and it's going to retain the heat for a period of time?" His answer was "Yes, you can heat it and then it will stay warm. In fact it's going to extend your Summer by three months." Again, it was never mentioned that we would have to keep heating the pool, which would cost thousands of dollars a year. Once the Summer started (and there wasn't any cold weather, so the Winter analogy falls apart) and after I heated the pool, the temperature dropped to cold water within days. There was no heat retention whatsoever. So the website claiming that there is heat retention is false, the pitch of "it will extend your Summer by three months" is false, and the omission of "you have to heat your pool all the time" is a negligent omission. That being said, if that had been the original pitch, it would have been full disclosure and just not something that would work for us, we would have parted ways, all good. But after the uselessness of the cover (besides the security factor which is good and working), my wife contacted your company, and instead of working with her to find a solution, was laughed at, lectured and any of our concerns were outright dismissed with snarky comments. So no, the customer service was not professional (neither was the messy installation). It all comes down to a misleading pitch and a dismissive "It's your problem now" attitude when contacted. An initial message on Facebook (in private) was never answered. A request for an email conversation to troubleshoot the issue was never followed up either. We tried to work with your company. If you're in business for so long you would have the integrity to admit the problems and have no problems with a removal and refund (even minus the removal costs). We are not unreasonable and we are not making reasons up or just "don't like the answer". read more

This is the second safety pool cover we've had from this company. Before they came out, I told the6n some of the concerns I had about the way there previous cover fit and took steps to ensure this one fit better. The technician, Chris, was very professional and went the extra distance to ensure not only the cover fit, but also that there sensors and everything else was working correctly. When he noticed some wires looking worn and corroded, he cut then back to newer wire for a better connection. He also addressed my concern about the sensors sticking up a little high and he relocated then so they were out of site. He could have easily said that's just how they are, but took an extra 30 minutes after he was done installing to adjust them for me. The finished product is exactly what I asked for and expected. Chris went way out of his way to ensure I was happy with it before he left. I will be using them again in the future. read more

I called to setup an appointment. They gave me an appointment 2 weeks out on MLK. I asked the rep whether they work on MLK and she confirmed. However on the day of the appointment, the technician didn't show up. Upon calling them, the rep tried to reach out to the service personnel. She mentioned that the service personnel forgot about the appointment and has left the town. The phone rep said she has asked the service personnel to call me for setting up another appointment. We have had their product on our pool for over a decade. A few years ago the original cover was replaced because of normal deterioration by chemicals, sun and wear.The product is to my satisfaction; it works properly and lasts the length of time the company suggests, -- overall I am positive about this company and its product. They offer annual inspection and maintenance which I think is a great idea. BUT Pool Covers, Inc. has some problems with advance notice scheduling those annual services and communication with the homeowner. Here is a copy of my letter concerning this problem again this year 2016. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Monday evening [11/28/2016], we arrived home from our Holiday trip and listened to our phone messages. A message on our answering machine, left that morning, 11/28/2016 @ 8:05am, from Erin, stated you had scheduled a technician for the annual general maintenance program. There was no mention of when the technician was to come. I had it on my list to call you today and schedule a service appointment. This morning [Tuesday 11/29/2016], I was out in our yard, cleaning up after our dogs and checking the pool cover to make sure the pump cleared the water from the weekend rain while we were gone. To my surprise, there was a note on the key left in the power switch that [the tech] was there on 11/28, the same day as the call from Erin. I have issues with your notification process and access to my property. 1. A call the morning of a scheduled service is not advanced notice. 2. I have asked several times before that you confirm the appointment with us before you schedule the appointment. An advance notice of a week would be appreciated. 3. We have dogs, who are usually friendly, but entering without my permission, puts your technician at risk and creates a liability for the homeowner if there should be a problem. He may be injured on my property or by a dog, even worse -- not close the gate properly and our dogs might escape and in danger of being lost, injured or killed (we live near a very busy highway). 4. Entering my property without permission is trespassing. I am sure no employee/owner of Pool Covers, Inc. would like someone entering their back yard or home unannounced and without permission. 5. Without at least my verbal agreement, the service you performed could be considered something I did not request and I would argue that I am not responsible for any charges resulting from that service. 6. Owning your product does not give you blanket authorization to access my property or perform annual services. Owning your product does not imply permission or contract of any sort other than the warranty you offer with the sale of the product. 7. The inspection sheet states "Check the ... condition of the cover" but the tech missed the tears in the end of the cover. The oversight suggests that the inspection was less thorough than the check list implies and perhaps some services billed were never actually performed. If you had spoken with me to make an appointment, I would have mentioned that I wanted those repaired. When I called this morning, I spoke with Chelsea. She was especially understanding when she called back to address my concerns. Chelsea said she made a note on my account to call and verify a date and permission before scheduling service and entering the property. This is an annual problem that I have addressed several times before and each time was told a note was added to my account, but the note seems to disappear every year and we have the same problem again and again - that is why I am angry. Thank you for offering to not bill us, but I am willing to pay for services performed. Please send us a bill and call to schedule a repair of the tears/punctures in the cover. Unfortunately for us, the previous owners had the pool built and had Pool Covers Inc install the pool cover. Our pool cover started acting up (not opening and closing properly), so we called and booked an appointment for 3 weeks later (their first available appointment). They came out, took a look at the system (which SUPPOSEDLY has a lifetime mechanical warranty...I say supposedly because they do not honor it), and said we needed a new drum and hub. Written estimate on a door tag for $895. I called them back, let them know I'd like to have the repair done, and that I have a warranty. The person on the phone said, "Hold on, I need to speak to my service manager." She came back, and said, "Mike said since it is due to corrosion, he'll split the cost with you." WHAT?!?!? I live in Danville. There is nothing corrosive in Danville besides the pool water which should be taken into consideration when offering a lifetime warranty. Our pool has been regularly maintained by professionals each week since it was installed, so no out of balance chemical situations to lead to unusual corrosion. I asked to speak to Mike, and suddenly (within 30 seconds), he was unavailable. I left a message for him. He did not call back. I called back two days later and had a very helpful woman (Erin - thank you!) answer the phone. She got Mike on the phone. He's completey unhelpful and lacking in integrity. First, he denied offering to "split the cost" which I said was the first clue that he knew this should be covered under warranty. Then he said the $895 was the split cost, it usually costs $1600 (not good math, Mike). I said, why didn't it say that on the estimate? After pressuring him, he said, the estimate was just written on a door tag and isn't a contract...which doesn't make any sense but he was backed into a corner with his unwillingness to honor either the warranty or his word on splitting the cost. Not only am I writing a Yelp review, I'm contacting the better business bureau. This is completely unacceptable and the owner of this company should be embarrassed. read more

Do not do business with these people. they do lousy work and they are not ethical. I did have a pool cover replaced by them many years ago. they did a terrible job, the fabric, electrical work and track ALL had problems. I had to have them back several times and was never fully satisfied. They left a crease about thirty feet long in my cover which caused premature failure of the cover. They also put a sticker on my control box without permission. I really do not like people who do this. I have had electricians, and water heater people do this too, they are not the only offenders, but I do not like it. If you want to offer me a sticker ok, if you ask I might give permission. but do not put graffiti in my house or yard. In addition they call me regularly trying to sell me $150 dollar "maintenance" I have asked them to stop calling me, and they fail to comply. Today I got home and they left a message saying that they have scheduled me for maintenance "as I requested" and they would be coming out to do it. No date or time given; forcing me to call them and and say "NO". I think this was a ploy to force me to call, thinking they could talk enough customers into it if they could only get them to call... As God and Yelp are my witnesses, I did not request them to do maintenance, I do not like them, their service or product. And if they come I will not pay, in fact I will call the authorities. Read through the other reviews, I do not know why people report so many problems and give 4 star reviews. Bottom I would not recommend them to a friend. I was so unhappy with them that I did without a cover for more than a year because I need to find someone better. I did find some one better- I was much happier with William Adams pool covers. I work hard for my money and these covers are thousands of dollars, I need someone who will provide quality for my money. read more

A huge thank you to Pool Covers Inc. for saving the day! When we tried to open our pool cover (on the hottest day of the year) the motor died after the cover opened about 2 ft. After reaching out and not being able to get an appointment with someone to come out for over a week (it is their busiest time of year!) I expressed my concern for the safety of my kids with a half open pool cover. Claire reached out to me right away was really apologetic and was able to get the tech in our area to swing by the same day to at least get it fully opened or fully closed to avoid any accidents. She was really awesome and helpful on the phone. Then Eli (our hero) showed up at the door a couple hours later. Not only did he help get the cover opened all the way, he discovered that it wasn't actually a dead motor but a short in the wiring that he easily (well he made it look easy) repaired... so not only do we have our pool back during this brutal heat wave (and the first week of summer vacation!) but we also saved thousands of dollars that we would have spent if we replaced the motor. I was ready to rip the entire unit out and replace it (we have had a lot of issues with the cover since we moved in)... and we found out today it is because the previous home owner pieced all the equipment together from cheaper pool cover companies. We will now be replacing each component (piece by piece) with Pool Covers Inc, so we don't have to hold our breath every time we turn that key!! read more

They were competitive (ie., just a tad high) on price, showed up on time, did a fine job and I would indeed use them again. Our pool cover got stuck closed last week (on my Birthday). My wife called Pool covers and there was no answer so she left a message. no callback. She called again late last week and they said that they will have to schedule it for a future date (which they will tell us this week) or have someone that day for $190 extra. We have not heard back regarding scheduling the appointment so my wife called back again today. They said that the soonest they can do it is on (9/26)... 3 weeks from now and about 1 month from the time we originally placed the request for maintenance. This is definitely POOR customer service. We have a pool that can't be used because the cover is stuck. We might as well wait for next year because it will soon get cold here in the Bay area and we won't be able to use the pool anyway. Btw, they recommended a service at least once a year. It hasn't been 1 year since they last serviced our pool cover. read more

This is the first time I've been frustrated enough by a company to leave a bad review. My pool cover started having problems closing back in mid April of 2013 -- it could only close half-way -- but we couldn't get a repair person from Pool Covers Inc to come out for at least two weeks to one month. Fine -- we waited, and on the day of the appointment, the repairman left after waiting 15 mins because I was on a business call on the other line and couldn't immediately let him into our gated community. I waited weeks for the job to get done, and he left after 15 mins????. I immediately called back and the best they could do was reschedule for a week later. The appointment occurred and we decided to replace the cover, though the closing mechanism is still busted and the cover can still only cover the pool half-way. One of their account managers called me about a week later, and we agreed they would email me the quote so we can get the replacement underway as soon as possible, except it took another week after this conversation to get the quote (I actually had to call and leave an angry message before I got the quote). It was late May when we agreed to the quote. So now we're in mid-June -- the pool cover doesn't close at all, and I won't get my new cover until early July. I asked if they can get someone out to at least close the cover because I have to be away for business and I don't want to leave the pool open. They said they are booked can't get anyone out for at least 7-10 days. I'm a busy person running my own business, yet I feel like I am constantly at the mercy of these schedulers running this pool cover company, as if I have to put my life and business on hold, waiting for these people to arrive. At least I don't have kids, or this would be a really serious problem. And no, they're not cheap. If they didn't install my pool cover in the first place, I would be going with somebody else. read more

We have had Poolcovers Inc out before for routine maintenance and all was fine. Yesterday August 22, however, our pool cover got stuck in the closed position. We called to get service and they were unable to come sooner than our original maintenance date of Sept 16th. When I explained to the CSR that I felt this was very poor service, he did not seem to understand that Sept 16 was fine for a routine maintenance issue but that the inability for us to get in and use or clean our pool for 3 weeks was unreasonable. If this was the way we treated our customers at my place of business we would be out of business. I was contacted right after submitting my review by the owner of the company(gosh, I didn't know they would do that!) asking for more details so she could understand what happened and how to fix it. Bravo! Pool Covers Inc. stands behind its product! In our case when there was a problem after almost 3 years of use, they replaced our cover for a very fair pro-rated amount. We have been using these pool covers for over 25 years, and we have a kidney shaped pool, making it much more challenging cover job, as part of the cover must drag along the aggregate deck. We also have the automatic opening system, which is well worth it. We were on our 3rd cover when it simply was not functioning properly. Pool Covers came out and fixed it temporarily since it was not opening, and then Jay King come out and evaluated the cover for wear and tear. He ordered a new cover for us, and recommended a better color of cover that was more impervious to the damage caused by the Sun's UV rays. The new cover functions much more effectively and looks great. When a product costs thousands of dollars, and there is a quality failure, it is nice to know you are working with a company that truly stands behind its product. read more

Not very happy with how the install turned out. Not sure what happened (who to blame) but the installer damaged our concrete and the end result does not look good. That being said, the company has been willing to work with us to resolve the issue. I did receive a refund AND they are willing to do whatever needs to be done to make amends. I would only suggest you think twice about choosing your cover company. In hindsight, I wish we never would have allowed anyone to drill into the top of our spa coping. The company says our concrete was brittle and flaking, which caused the issue. Whether or not that's true, I don't know. While we are disappointed with the end result, I will say the company rep, Zack Nelson, has been very helpful and courteous throughout the ordeal. read more

This company is terrible. Found them in the paperwork for our house when we bought it, so we called them. Took us 5 months to get this completed. Everything was piecemeal. First, it was the cover. Then whoops you need a new system. If you get the new system we can mount the nice key unit on the wall, nice and convenient. Then whoops can't do that. Then it was whoops this system is a different size and your cover won't fit. Salesman refused to come to the house. Different servicemen each time out with different stories of what we needed and how it could be done. And the new cover is nowhere near the quality of the old one. Everything was our fault as we obviously have the wrong pool. I would never recommend this company to anyone, and if I had found someone else midway, we would have canceled it there. I also found the office, the receptionist to be very rude and not the least bit helpful whenever we have had issues. I will not ever use them again. Had Pool Covers Inc install cover on new pool. Had them come back to replace cover after it wore out in five years. Took 7 weeks to finally get the new cover installed. They called every week for three weeks to verify the color, really? Just order it while the color is still fresh in your head and stop waisting time! They did finally get it ordered and did a great job, staying late, to get the new cover installed. Now the bad news. Last Friday, one day before a big "pool" party, the cover would not open. Between my wife and myself, we left seven messages begging for, at a minumum, someone to call us back to least tell us how to open the damn thing manualy. We didn't get one call back. I guess Pool Covers Inc takes Fridays off and doesn't return phone calls. I had to disassemble the motor and hand turn the drum to open the cover, what a bitch. It took 30 minutes. Still no call back! Won't be referring or using them again. read more

Had them out twice to look at our NON FUNCTIONING/NON WORKING Pool cover...took 3 months to get them back to fix it....and upon arrival they state we need a new motor.......of course we need a new motor...the cover doesn't work but they never included the motor in the bid...its been 5 months now since the first visit. They were difficult from the beginning when the cover was installed. It blew off in the first storm and they took no responsibility for it then did a quick fix which lead to the motor breaking...UGH.. read more

Pool Covers Inc installed our pool cover over ten years ago and has continued to maintain the cover ever since. Our pool is an Olympic length lap pool so it's a very long pool so keeping the pool cover track in good shape is a must particularly in the rural wine country area where we live. I highly recommend this company's product and customer service. The gentleman that recently came by to do service maintenance on the pool cover was extremely professional and polite and had a great sense of humor.
