Diners are pretty much the same, the place where locals tend to congregate, chat, debate, complain and generally find a home away from home. Scappy's is your quentiscential diner in the rural Adirondacks. Good coffee, good food, good service, conversation and an American tradition of rural authenicity. Small businesses and places like this have been under a heavy economic burden. Some will survive, many won't that was clear on our recent trip through upstate NY. Fortunately, Scrappy's has persevered, not without very real headwind challenges but the woman who owns Scrappy's, let just say, though pushed to the edge, she draws on the name of her little restaurant to push and motivate her on. This is one of those fast disappearing rural hidden gems you don't want to miss while they remain.

They don't make them like this back home. A 6 AM to 2 PM daily schedule where everyone knows your name. Sounds like Cheers except it isn't a bar. It's Scrappy's Diner. Found this place while we were road tripping to Vermont. Saw it randomly on the side of the road and literally screamed diner when everyone else was discussing where to go eat. We parked and got out of the car, some with more reservations than others. Truth is the outside of this place looks rundown. Or perhaps it looks like you're going somewhere in the middle of nowhere. It could also be that we are used to city life in Miami. We had no need to fear though. Upon entering, we were greeted by the sweetest lady. A waitress, she was wearing Christmas tree pajamas and running around everywhere with a smile on her face. The people there seemed to know her and love her, and well, we ended up, too. It is a shame we didn't get her name. A very caring person, she made us feel right at home. In fact, once we told her we were from Miami and two of us had never seen snow, that became the opening for when regulars would come in, and believe me, there were plenty! Each and every person gave us advise and good wishes relating to the snow. I'm also happy to report that we flew out on time, which was a possibility everyone discussed. As far as food goes, it was beyond affordable. Six of us ate for $60 or so. The portions, too, were massive. I had a vegetable omelette with toast and potatoes. Not to mention that our waitress kept refilling our mugs with some toasty coffee that putting it simply was divine. Everyone was in full agreement pertaining to their respective dishes. The food, the hospitality, the quaintness of this place was one of a kind. It felt like family. Like going home to grandmother's house. Nothing else comes close. If I'm ever in Fort Ann again, there is no doubt I will return. I was heavenly struck by it.

I have driven past this place at least a million times in my life and on Monday I finally stopped for breakfast on Memorial Day. Holly Cow I was blown away. I had the best breakfast of my life and the ladies working in there are TOP NOTCH. I felt like my grandma my mom and all my aunties were cooking for me. I highly recommend and can't wait to go back for lunch and dinner

Sausage and Biscuits are killer! One of the best I have had. Farm fresh eggs and bacon!!!!

By Lake George and the Town of Fort Ann? Scrappy's has the best breakfast around. Bar none!

Best b-fast dive in the area. Clean, friendly staff and food is some good home cooking. No frills not fancy just great pancakes, home fries and coffee. Can't beat it for $13. Biggest pancake you will ever have.

How sad was I to find, in upstate New York, while sitting at a table next to very friendly dairy farmers, in this cozy local diner, that Scrappy's serves Kraft faux "maple syrup" (read: maple flavored corn syrup) and dairy products from Wisconsin and Maryland?! The food was ok, but the syrup, half-and-half, and butter all being barely mediocre made the experience not pleasant. I hope one day this local business will choose to support other local business by buying New York State dairy and maple products.

When our family decided to do a day trip to Vermont, we knew we had to get a nice breakfast since it was going to be a long day. On our way through Lake George and approaching Fort Ann, my girlfriend noticed Scrappy's Diner on the side of road so in we went. Now this was the definition of a roadside dinner; it is open only until 2:00 pm. We were immediately seated by the waitress, who was wearing pajamas (loved the informal touch) and were immediately served with waters. I guess this place is a locals hangout since everyone that was there were talking to each other, so we were feeling a bit out of place. That feeling quickly evaporated when our waitress started talking to us and made us feel at home. She asked us where we from and started talking to us about the area in general and weather. The most fun part was that whenever she would tell someone coming in that we were from Miami and never seen snow (true statement). Everyone was very friendly to us, asking us about the weather and talking of us about the area. We felt like a family. Now getting back to food, I ordered a western breakfast sandwich with a side of sausage. The sandwich was one of the best I ever had. The egg was very fresh and so were all the other ingredients. Our entire family enjoyed the meal and when we left everyone said goodbye and wished us a safe trip. You don't get that down here. Love these places

I first heard of Country Girl after watching Chronicle approx. 2 year ago. The whole experience was awesome! We ordered drinks immediately after taking our seats at the counter. I had a pepsi and I had to order a vanilla milk shake to go! My wife had water and coffee. We wanted to get our order in because we felt like the staff was nice enough to let us in that we didn't want to stall them from getting out at closing. My wife had grilled cheese with tomato soup. I had a burger with fries. My wife was thrilled with the soup. She said it was the best tomato soup she has had in a long time! My fries were excellent. home made and tasty! You can see in the pictures that the diner is set up with booths and a counter top. I am told that they are busy year round. I can see why because the food and service is fabulous. The staff was so nice and welcoming! Price: fair Parking: plenty of parking in the lot Vibe: great music...welcoming Would I come back again? We enjoyed a very tasty midday breakfast/lunch with good, easy-going service and a distinctly local flavor. But let's get to the food: over-easy eggs cooked just right, homemade and delicious corned beef hash, and a nice-size burger cooked as requested and yummy. Service was quick, the restaurant was clean, and the new guy in the kitchen merits praise for his good work. Our companion diners at the next table looked as if they might have been seated there for decades, savoring their coffee refills and enjoying togetherness. Nice. Wish we had a diner comparable to Wooden Soldier back home. Well worth a visit if you're headed in this direction.

We took an extra long time to decide on food because we were chatting and catching up. The staff were so kind and understanding. When we did finally place an order we both got turkey sandwiches. The turkey is roasted fresh and absolutely incredible. The veggies on the sandwich were nice and fresh as well. It came with chips and sliced pickles. The total for both of our sandwiches was just under $15 including tax! This was an incredible deal. This is a great spot to grab breakfast or lunch. Beyond the food, the service is incredible. I misplaced my sunglasses as I was leaving and could not find them in the booth. My friend and I took a stroll around town for about an hour, and walked back up in front of the wooden soldier where we had parked before leaving town. One of the employees asked if I was the girl who had lost my sunglasses. She let me know that the gentleman who had served us had found them under the booth after we left and had asked to local businesses if they had seen us! She told me to go right back in, even though they had closed and and there was the gentleman who had served us with my sunglasses and a great big smile! These people were the sweetest, this absolutely made my week! Good people, good food, good location. Check it out.
