As far as Dive bars go this one was pretty chill. Drinks were cold and the crowd was civil to one another. Not a bad place to grab a beer but only if you are in the neighborhood. Parking is crowded and the place itself is small and dark. 3 stars! read more

This place is tiny dive bar really close to Cal State Long Beach. I've been there a couple of times now and randomly saw people i knew both times. This place is a drive bar if I've ever seen one but the drinks are really cheap. They only sell bottled beer (lame) so cocktails are the way to go. Well drinks are only $3 and I got a Maker's on the rocks for only $5. they don't serve food here but you can always walk to the doughnut place next door which is open 24 hours. They have two dart boards which is pretty fun. The bartender was friendly and a bit tipsy. There isn't much seating so it's not a very good place to go with a large group. Bottom line: It's a total dive but it's the cheapest place I know of to get cocktails (strong ones at that). read more

This is a relaxing bar. Def worth the trip. The best bar tender is Samantha. She takes great care of the crowd. We stop by nearly every Saturday. This place is down the street from my in-laws house, so I pass by it all of the time and stop in once in a while. What a classic dive bar. It's like something that you saw in the movie Barfly. I concur that you'll have a tough time finding a stiffer $3 drink anywhere. The commute is simple and it goes like this: 405 north...off at Palo Verde...make a left...make another left on Sterns...immediate right into the parking lot...look at the people in the donut shop...go inside Poor Richard's for a cocktail... This place is also open at like 6AM. For some reason I know this because we have stopped in many times for a morning wake up cocktail en route to various events...like an early morning RV departure for some tailgating or catching a ride to the Long Beach airport so that Jet Blue can zoom us over to Vegas. Have a chuckle as you walk up and see the cops at the donut shop two doors down and then go inside and get a san juan hooker shot on Sammy. Couple of co-workers of mine brought me to this bar after work, driving up to it at first the place didn't look too welcoming, it just had a sign outside of it that said Poor Richard's, promises of strong cheap drinks got me in, and boy they weren't kidding. $3 for well drinks and they bartenders poor heavy, i normally don't get buzzed too quickly but after my first Jack and Coke i was getting warm. The crowds inside are diverse, some locals and some students from CSULB which is just down the street from this place. The bartenders gives good recommendations and even will go into the register at times and give you money to put into the jukebox so you can pick the music. The music coming from the jukebox isn't too loud soo one is still able to have a conversation with out losing ones voice. The place is really small soo not alot of places to sit. If you got the munchies after enjoying a couple of drinks there is a Del Taco and Taco Bell across the street from this place and 24 hour donut place just a few shops down. This dive bar opens at 6am. This is a great place to come for a good cheap drink without having to wait for happy hour like most places around. read more

This is the kind of place that you would never drive out of your way to go to, but since I can walk there, it's definitely worth going to. First time I was there the bartender fell down drunk by the end of the night. She was classy. The same people are there just about every time I go; the huge old man at the end with his buddies, the dart-boarders, the middle aged couple who spend their spare time there when they are not watching NASCAR in their trail or, and a few random old men for good measure. It's a bar... a dive bar for sure but definitely the strongest pours for the best prices around the LBC. They have a juke box, a couple of games, and they sell scratchers and lotto tickets as well. They have a couple of TVs for games but not really a sports bar. They don't serve food but don't mind if you bring some in from one of the local spots. read more

A couple of friends and I went to this bar and were treated terribly by the bartender (I believe her name was Jessica). She swore profusely at one of our group members for "having crumpled up money and sweating." It was incredibly unprofessional and I would not recommend this bar to anyone, nor will I be returning. The Bar: Outside: A strip mall on the southeast corner of Palos Verdes Ave. & Stearns Ave. on the eastside of Long Beach, lies this hole in the wall, Poor Richard's, known to the locals as Broke Dicks. Every store on the block has a window except this place. A couple of bar stools outside for the smoking area and a door leading into the unknown. Inside: A long narrow room, the bar to the left and a few tables to the right. Dark inside, likely to mask the filthy ceiling, which we were able to capture with the flash of the camera, nothing a little paint can't fix. Roughly 20 barstools and tables for around 15 people. The Crowd: Ran into a familiar face that we haven't seen in over 3 years, good times! As for the rest of the crowd, this is not the spot to look for a date, as it was packed with couples. Thanks to our friend Heather, we were introduced to just about everyone in the joint. everyone was chill. Service: 1 bartender and 30 patrons, needless to say, not the fastest, but served with a smile. Prices: $5.00 24oz tall boys of PBR & Rolling Rock, $4.00 pounders of Coors Light, $5.00 double shots of Fireball. Entertainment: 2 TV's, Golden Tee, Lottery Tickets, TouchTunes, Jukebox Karaoke. Restroom: A white tile nightmare with your normal amount disrespectful dive bar graffiti. Equipped with a trashcan, however, the sink seems more appealing to the patrons. The stall, not equipped with a lock, in fact, it doesn't even stay closed. We recommend the Del Taco across the street. Bartender: Jessica, gorgeous! Closing statement: We had a blast. This is a cool little spot and very close to our regular spot in Long Beach. I see many more trips to this dive in the future. Good prices, good people, good times to be had! read more

Been here a few times and it's ok. If you didn't know if was there, you might drive right by it. The positives are that the drinks are CHEAP. Usually cheap drinks means that they're watered down. Not here, they were about as stiff as they come. The negatives are that it's a pretty small place with just the bar and a couple of tables. The drinks are resonibly priced and the bartenders are true mixologists. If you don't want to laugh and have fun than stay home! So, I go bar hopping every weekend, my weekend typically being Sunday and Monday. I work pretty much 9-14 hour shifts and I expect to go to a local bar with no issue. Man was I wrong. Sure the atmosphere seemed great, and laid back, but service, was crappy. Took me 30 minutes just to get my brew, and it wasnt even cold anymore!! Not only that, I didn't get any change, I guess she apparently thought it was automatic tips. Well it would've been tips if you weren't sweet talking to everyone else and not ignoring me. Sure she may have the looks, blonde and cute, but I got this kind of "rude" vibe from her. (Should've got her name but I was just irritated) Anyway it's a dive bar can't expect much. I'd rather stay on 4th Street and hit up Ashley's or Red Room, at least they care for customers. Only thing I like.... donut shop next door!! 24 hours!! And another thing, I'm a manager at a restaurant/bar and I know how it should operate, and this was unacceptable. My dishwashers can give better service! Definitely not coming back!! read more
