Popovers are fantastic! We thought we were just going to "pop in" (get it?) for a to-go coffee and breakfast sandwich but once we got inside we decided it was worth it to stay. The menu was very creative and everything looked delectable. I had to ask the server for recommendations and me they said their corned beef was very good so I opted for a dish with that. It was St Patrick's Day so I also ordered a soda bread scone. The corned beef over popover was so much food I had to take the scone home, but it was delicious. My friend ordered what was essentially chicken and waffles (but called something Southern) and she said it was very good as well. Overall great experience, so glad we stopped in! read more

So so good. This was my second time visiting the cafe, this time for my birthday. I'd recommend calling the day before for reservations because it fills up quickly. The server had a great personality and very attentive despite the busy morning. I ordered the chicken and waffles (all gluten free) and my brunch mates ordered the pop overs. I was concerned I wouldn't have enough to eat but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the plates come out. I wish there were gluten free pop overs but sadly, there are not. FAVORITE place near hartford. So sad they're not open any later. There's usually always a wait but its not bad. They have baked goods and coffee you can order while you wait. The food is delicious and satisfying, the speciality drinks are fun and yummy. And of course, the popovers with the honey butter are the best part. The service is always great. I came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning With a small group of friends. We were lucky to see an Open Table when we walked in since the place was pretty busy. We ordered some specialty drinks like like the chai latte and also a Holiday cocktail. We also got 2 breakfast sandwiches and the Simsbury feast platter. The food was really good, also the portions were pretty big. I will say that it was pretty slow to come out, and the drinks were pretty slow to be made as well but but overall it was still delicious and a cute spot to sit in and spend time with friends. Disgusting. We will not be returning here. The coffee was so bitter I had to ask for a fresh cup and it still tasted bad. For the record, I drink my coffee black. Good coffee is not bitter unless it is chicory. All of our food had a burnt cinnamon taste/flavor and each of us had a different meal. The service was friendly at least. I lean towards 3.5 here. To be honest, after my first trip to Popover Simsbury, they would have received a solid 4.5 stars from me, easily. On that first trip, I was one of the first ones in the restaurant. Ordered a plain popover to start. The popover itself was warm, and light and crisp in the right places, while eggy/custardy in all the others. Served with an amazing honey butter that added just the right sweetness to the popover and melted easily over the warm edges. It was beautiful. I ordered the classic popover: scrambled eggs with goat cheese inside a popover. Added a breakfast sandwich on the side on a croissant for good measure. Yes, that was all my order. My partner got other things. Everything came out well timed and delicious. Perfect temperature and made and seasoned very well. We thought we found the perfect breakfast place! My second trip was a bit less amazing. We showed up closer to the afternoon, so the restaurant was full. We ended up being seated at the counter, which isn't a big deal at all. We ordered the plain popover to start again. This time, hard and cold. The butter was barely spreadable so you couldn't taste the honey, if it was even there. I ordered a few pastry items this time too, since we were sitting next to them and staring at them: the cinnamon roll and the vegan chocolate cookie. Both were pretty hard and very dry. I even opted to take them home to see if some time in the microwave would help - it didn't. My entree was a ham, cheese, and spinach popover. It needed salt. A lot of salt. My partner got the lox popover which was salted well each time he ate a piece with lox, but if his bite didn't have the lox, it was quite bland. The second trip was a bit tragic considering how much we fell in love with this place the first time. We'll give it another shot, but it might be awhile. Maybe we'll go early and see if that's what makes the difference: early = less people and more made to order items? Who knows, we'll see. read more

Popover is a great place to visit for breakfast! They have delicious food with fresh ingredients. The wait staff is always polite. At times it can get busy on the weekend but typically the wait is not very long. The outdoor patio is a great experience and sometimes has live music! We love to bring company here, including our friends who are Vegan as they have a variety of options. We love how they support local businesses and use local ingredients. My favorite items on the menu are the Simple Sammie, Chicken and Waffles, and Emma T Waffle. I've never had anything I don't like! We have enjoyed some great lattes and on weekends enjoy the mimosa bucket (1 bottle champagne and 2 juices). read more

I've been eyeing this cute bakery for some time now and finally had the opportunity to pop in last month. If there's one thing you take away from this review, it's that their popovers are larger than life! They are jaw-droppingly tall and so evenly golden-browned--they're practically majestic. Whatever recipe Popover Bistro uses must be magic because the hues on these baked babies are worthy of envy. Most importantly of all - they taste just as grandiose as they look. I loved the wild berry jam and honey butter accoutrements! While there, we also picked up some of their other dishes: Corned beef hash plate: Loaded with a mound of shredded, thoroughly seasoned corned beef, 3 fried eggs, chorizo and hash potatoes. It was a breakfast fit for a king (and with their portion sizes, for the queen too). Whipped ricotta toast: This toast looked bejeweled. It starts with a thick slab of brioche, slathered with a creamy ricotta and garnished with a colorful mix of caramelized apples, dried cranberries and pumpkin seeds! Chicken Pot Pie: Back when dine-in was available, the chicken pot pie was supposedly served inside the popover. Since we ordered takeout, everything was separated, so we took home a container of chicken pot pie filling, a side salad and a popover that we then assembled as we ate. The bakery also whips up drool-worthy desserts as well. It took a lot of willpower to resist throwing in a bar or a muffin on top of our order. Instead, we went with paleo bites. Extremely long wait times to be seated and even longer for food and drinks. The cocktails we ordered when we were sat didn't get to the table until after our entrees did and our coffee took over 25 minutes. It could have just been a busy or an off day so hopefully it was just a one-off. It was a pretty poor experience here, especially for my first time trying this place. The service just seemed VERY disjointed and confused. I wouldn't return, but it was nice to try the popovers. The food was all around just good, nothing great or "must-try". We had stuffed popovers, Benedict's, salads, and Buffalo cauliflower. The cauliflower was the best thing on the table, it was just like Buffalo chicken wings but cauliflower. Overall the restaurant is sub-par and could do much better. The food was good not great and the service was very poor. I love the farm to table concept, also the popovers are hard to find anywhere else. I hope my poor experience today was just a one off. read more

I have been to Popovers several times and at different times of the day. The food at Popovers is consistently the best. The menu options are well prepared, unique, tasteful, and healthful. The staff is well trained and and service very good. However, this establishment is consistently frequented by very loud and disruptive patrons. Pair the patrons with the acoustics of a mausoleum. The ambiance is very loud, tortuous, and even painful making for an experience that is not relaxing or enjoyable. Overall, I will have to rate this 3 stars. read more

We've enjoyed brunch at Popover a few times and today was the first time actually trying a popover. Had the Parisian Pop with ham Swiss and spinach - really good. They make a solid chicken salad sando and pastries, but it's so busy and popular we have waited up to an hour for 15 minute online order pick ups. I'm in between a 3 and a 4 but, I went with 4 stars because the food was fresh, the staff was nice and the restaurant was very clean and cute. Getting directions from Yelp did not take me here. It took me down the street and the other side of the road. So just a heads up. It's located in the simsbury shopping plaza behind Starbucks. I guess I had a turnover and a popover confused. Because I was sadly disappointed when I got my meal. That was totally my fault but, when eating my breakfast, the disappointment remained. I got the veggie popover with no mushrooms. It came with a little bit of mushroom and I'm pretty sure no goat cheese. There was no flavor and the popover kind of seemed like it was baked awhile ago and then had eggs and veggies put on top. It just seemed cold compared to the rest. My daughter got the kids Belgian waffles with strawberries. They tasted as good as they looked but, slightly soggy in the middle. Not sure if it was cooked all the way through. The ocean blue latte was delicious and the overall menu for drinks and food looked great. Although I wasn't thrilled with my meal flavor wise the ingredients were fresh and I'm still tempted to come back again and try something else. The menu looks that good. I popped over to Popover (get it, get it?) for Friday lunch take out. I was struck by how cute the space is. On this day at this hour, there were lots of small groups catching up. I'd love to come back and eat in! I got a classic popover with eggs and cheese plus a side salad. The popover was huge and buttery goodness. It might have been a tad bit too much butter, but it was truly delicious. I also got an iced coffee, which was concentrate mixed with water. I mean, I'm sure lots of iced coffee comes like that, but it was kind of gross to watch! Popover was packed when we went. I automatically had high hopes since West Hartford and the surrounding areas lack good breakfast spots and were always on the prowl. This place is located in a super cute area in Simsbury. We had a 30 minute wait during which time we ordered a smoothing, some London fog lavender latte and a latte. All were decent. Starting with with the food- the popover. It was good and came out super fresh and warm. We really enjoyed it. Next was the biscuit Sammie- it's the driest biscuit egg meat combo I've ever tasted. It wasn't just dry, it lacked flavour. Just no. And then the most popular Emma T waffles. They were crispy and other than the waffle shape, didn't do any justice to the waffle family. We asked for Nutella on the side to make them palatable. I will say that the coconut macaroon we ordered was amazing and they had a lot of gluten free baked items which is really nice for all the celiacs out there. read more

I recently attended a Yelp Elite event at Popover and knew I had to come back and see if everything was as impressive on a normal night. Luckily, I was going to the Talcott Mountain Music Festival this past weekend, which is basically in Popover's backyard, so I met a friend here to get dinner ahead of time. We each ordered a bruschetta (I got the tomato/avocado, and she got one with some sort of fruit preserve and Brie(?)) and the Kale Caesar salad, which had chicken and roasted brussel sprouts. I also grabbed some popovers for the weekend and a bottle of water (although I was tempted by the display of beer...). We took everything to-go and ate it sitting on the lawn listening to Journey covers. I wish the bruschetta was a little more crunchy, as it felt like more of an open-faced sandwich, but it was really good. My friend and I split our bruschettas, so we had the tomato/avocado as an appetizer, ate our salads, and then the fruity/cheesy one as dessert. I loved, loved, loved my salad. It was only like $10 and it was huge and put together perfectly. I don't usually like meat on my salad, but this was a great pairing. My popovers deflated a bit over the days but were still full of flavor two days later. I'm glad that my Elite experience was mirrored in my normal-person experience here at Popover. Love Popover! I hadn't visited in a while (it's a little bit of a drive) but decided to take my in-laws for lunch when they were visiting last week. My mother in law always makes popovers for breakfast on holidays so she loved the idea of this popover-centric bakery. I'd been a handful of times before and it's always such a welcoming space - bright, cheerful, and always smelling terrific. I started with the tropical mint smoothie, which had fresh mint, coconut water, pineapple, mango and kale -- such a treat but super filling! Two of us got the protein popover which came stuffed with scrambled eggs, sausage, mushroom, and bacon. It hardly fit on the plate -- you could easily split it into two filling meals! My mother-in-law's smoked salmon stuffed popover was also excellent. Now, onto the waffles. My husband ordered the Southerner - chicken & waffles which came with cheese, bacon, hot sauce and syrup. Quite possibly the best flavor combination. The waffles are light, fluffy, and delightful - you'd never know they're gluten free. Lastly, we all shared the Emma T to snag a bite of something sweet - this waffle comes loaded with nutella and fresh berries. The perfect conclusion to a lovely meal. WOW!!! Had a brunch time meal with the family. The popovers were beyond overstuffed and the quality was definitely well above average!! A French toast BLT was also ordered and was excellent. I had the homemade corned beef hash plate and as I am an over eater, I could not believe the amount of quality hash that was on my plate along with three eggs, toast and home fries. And even the home fried potatoes are not run of the mill fried taters!! I was beyond stuffed when we left, and yes the prices are a little higher than the more run of the mill eaterys, it was well worth the price!! We have been wanting to try Popover's for a while now. Finally, this past weekend, we took the trip and stopped in. What a cute place!! I walked in and instantly knew this was going to be great. Their menu is pretty extensive with several varieties of popovers, and also breakfast bowls, sandwiches, smoothies, etc. They have breakfast and brunch items. Popover's also has a great selection of coffees, lattes, and teas. My husband and I ordered the protein pop to share and I also ordered a mocha latte. The protein pop was absolutely perfect. It had a tasty combination of ingredients- eggs, bacon, turkey sausage, mushrooms, caramelized onion, and cheese. The kitchen also split our popover to make it easy to share which was nice of them. When it arrived to our table it looked awesome! We both really enjoyed the delicious popover and the egg/meat/veggie combo that went with it. Didn't need a thing! Enjoyed every bite. My mocha latte was perfect and warm the entire time I drank it.
