We went a week after grand opening. It was packed. The wait staff was overwhelmingly busy but they were fast and efficient. Our waiter was fantastic! I absolutely loved the atmosphere with bright and lively colorful artwork and murals. They play electric and popish music. I had a tasty lemongrass mojito with a tuna poke bowl and a philly maki roll. My companions enjoyed the volcano roll and the southwestern roll. All were delicious. It was reasonably priced. Sushi would have been great but the rice was bad... seemed old and almost a little hard. The fish used in the sushi was great and the people were nice. Sorry, Pop Sushi---you've got some work to do. I'd rate my experience today as 2 stars, but I know kicking off a Durango restaurant can be tricky, so 3 it is. I got a to-go order via the bar. The bartender was friendly and attentive. I got the ceviche and a roll. What I was mainly interested in was the ceviche--- I love rice monkey's ceviche, and the Pop menu indicated a bigger variety in terms of fish (+$5 in price). 2 pieces of fish in my ceviche had bones inside. The portion was 1/3 of rice monkey's. Customer (local) next to me at the bar commented several times that the roll he got at pop was way smaller than the one he always got at rice monkey. Pop--you could be good, and I would happily go here regularly. Unfortunately, your current food quality doesn't justify your prices. I'll hit up Rice Monkey while you sort it out. read more

I really want to like this place. A friend and I ordered Tonkotsu Ramen: the pork belly was delicious, but the broth lacked depth, noodles were overdone, and the garnish included half an overcooked egg, one piece of Nori, and some shredded carrot--disappointing, especially for the price. On the plus side: the place is lively with an upbeat atmosphere and our waiter was great--so I'll give them another chance and try the sushi. Hope they improve the ramen. read more

Every single online order has been 20 minutes or more past the time noted for pick up. It was 91 degrees today and we waited in the car for 30 minutes past the pick-up time we were given. I talked to 4 different employees, and not a single one of them apologized. A simple sorry goes a long way. For a better customer experience can you update the time you say pick up orders will be ready so your people don't have to waste their time? Or a phone call to note the delay? We've lived down the street since well before you opened this location and have always been great patrons. Such a bummer to see this kind of response to your local folks trying to keep you open. read more

I really don't like giving bad reviews, but today I feel it was warranted. There are very few sushi places here and this is the one we tend to frequent as it's closer to our house and Pop Hour helps make feeding a family of 5 sushi possible. With the never ending pandemic going on we called to have take out (which we have done a couple of times this past year and a half) to order from their Pop Hour menu, they've honored the prices for pickup before. My husband asked if they are still doing that, the lady on the phone said yes. He asked if they've put limits on the amount allowed to be ordered and she said no. So we placed an order for 4 rolls on the Pop Hour menu and a couple of additional rolls. We were expecting our order to be roughly $60, but when we arrived it was nearly $100. My husband asked why it was so expensive and she said he was given incorrect information... It wasn't clear if it was because the food wasn't ready until after 6 (we called around 5) or if it's a policy change on pickup. Rather than honoring said price on phone she "knocked a couple of bucks off." I understand how understaffed a lot of places are here in Durango, but when you're told one price and then another it's annoying and really makes me not really want to give them my business. I'm going to go ahead and give them a one star. I've ordered the poke bowl from them before and it was just okay. But when I've tried to order in the past, they have straight up told me that they are not taking any more take out orders. Today I tried calling them from the moment they opened. I was only able to get the phone to ring ONCE. All other times, the line was supposedly busy. That one time it did ring, no one answered. Pop Sushi is a fun, solid choice. They have a good variety of sushi rolls, soups and apps that keep frequent visits fresh. Some of my favorites are the Pecan Shrimp, Cooked Oysters, SBT Roll, Lime Twist Roll and any of the Ramen bowls. Overall, it is a little pricey to go too often, but the food is something to look forward to. read more

My Fiancee went out her for date night, after a coworker told us a little about them. I used to work as a concierge and as a result tend to overthink and judge heavily anywhere I eat since I had to be certain on whether I could recommend a place to a client. Pop Sushi was perfect, they are an fusion restaurant that holds no illusions, the music was at just the right volume that you could hear each other but still had a presence. The atmosphere was nice, and the service was great. Most importantly, the food, we ordered a mix of tapas and sushi rolls steamed buns (with pork belly), Takoyaki, agadashi tofu, and for the rolls a philly, volcano, and pop spider roll. We even got mochi for desert, which I admit I tend to forgo desert at restaurants. They confirmed with us that we would like to receive our dishes as they were ready, which was perfect as each new dish was delivered at about the time we finished the one we were currently eating. The tofu was cooked perfectly with a nice light tempura, and a lovely sauce that we soaked it in. The Takoyaki was beautifully presented with a delicious sauce, and best of all was perfectly moist on the inside with plenty of octopus per bite. The philly roll was the next dish out, and I realized I had inhaled half of the 10 piece roll before even thinking about it, it had the perfect flavor and texture. After that we received our steamed buns which had a perfect blend of sweet and savory. Finally, the volcano and pop spider rolls arrived which were a delicious end to our main meal. Because the meal was nicely spread out I had some room for desert and we tried one of each of the Mochi ice cream they had (red bean, green tea, and chocolate) the ice cream used carried the traditional flavors well, and had a thin coat of mochi which complimented it well. Everything was setup perfectly for presentation, and my fiancee and I fully intend to return for another adventure, perhaps next time I will try out their tonkotsu ramen, which from what I saw delivered to other tables should be delicious. read more

local, took daughter for her 17th bday. waitress took her time to stop by our table. once we ordered no silverware. got adult drinks 10min after food, she forgot the our daughter and boyfriends. during course of meal, ordered 2 items she simply forgot and never acted like she cared. at time to leave, she left check which we signed and then left. got a call 10 min later saying we didn't sign bill and wanted us to come back. We did of course sign, who's responsiblitiy is it to make sure you get it right. Never going back. For anyone to think that this place is a hip sushi spot, means they have never been to a real sushi restaurant. My husband and I came here for our seventh wedding anniversary dinner, and we were not impressed. The only view is that of a gas station, the service was slow, and the sushi was subpar but very expensive. The two highlights for us where the seafood ramen and the sake. Like others I wish I could review this at 0 stars. Warning to any tourists or visitors in Durango.. I promise you that you'll save an hour of your life by simply avoiding this place all together. We arrived around 6:15pm and were told to wait for 30 minutes for a call. First of all this call never came, and by the time we checked back in, they had entirely skipped our name on the list and sat 4 names behind us. I understand that it might've been best to wait around in their face to make sure we were seated, but the hostess assured us that if we wanted to run a quick errand we may. After returning they told us to wait for 30 more minutes... However when we first came in, takeout was a 40 minute wait and we wish the hostess would of just told us that dine-in would be an hour long wait. You can tell by the attitudes of all the hostesses that they don't welcome visitors and only care about making money during happy hour. With that said, if you do decide to risk your luck, make sure you never go on a Monday because you will have 0 luck (as this is happy hour). I am a huge fan of sushi, and like many of you I am sure that you're willing to wait for it sometimes, but if you also want to be treated with an attitude in the process then be my guest. As for the actual service time when dining-in, I talked to 3 tables who were angrily waiting for their food for more than 30 minutes each. Their are very few sushi chefs working even during the busiest hours, so you can expect sloppily made rolls and messed up orders. Before coming I had read some pretty nasty reviews on here but was willing to give it a shot anyways. Folks, do yourself a favor and listen to the nice people warning you about this establishment. An absolute ripoff!! Note: Honestly this is my one and only yelp review and while I may not have the most credibility, I was instantly sueded to warn the rest of you about this place because it is really. that. bad. I would also like to note that you're sorely mistaken if you outweigh the negative reviews with the positive. A large majority of their better reviews are all from a year + ago. How hard is it? We have enjoyed good food at Pop before, but tonight they blew it. Ordered online and told 40 minutes, not great, but upon my 40 minute arrival was told maybe 5-10 more since the rolls were behind. I asked about the calamari and was told it was under the heat lamp. After an additional 20 minute wait, food was handed to me. Maki was poorly rolled, actually unrolled, no ginger, no wasabi!!, and cold calamari. My concern about cold calamari was ignored. Maybe I should have gone to the local gas station instead. Definitely expect more from Pop. read more

Service was OK to start with but the last dish (Poke) took an extra half hour to arrive which was pretty tedious for all involved. The rice was so overcooked that it was literally eating warm fish inside of some rice paste and is hands down the worst sushi I have ever had along with a cup of water with the smallest amount of me some soup mix inside of it. We were in Durango to ski on a Monday and Tuesday. Our ski rental dude recommended Pop Sushi on Monday night due to it being Happy Hour all day. In our mid-fifties, we were definitely the oldest in the crowd! Food and service were excellent! Calamari for appetizer, some rolls, 3 drinks and the amazing Fried Cheesecake for dessert. The potstickers were ok, but very little substance, same as the goat cheese wontons. Very little anything but wonton. Beef hibachi bowl was so so salty, it was inedible. Not to mention the beef was charred and so overcooked. The house wine was gross, from a box. I'm only writing this review so maybe the restaurant can step it up a little.
