Wanted oysters and good seafood so we came here. Service was excellent, food and drinks perfect! Make a reservation. We eat in the bar area on a high table. It was fine. Oysters were fresh and yummy! Loved all my food and have leftovers. Portions are large! Parking is valet or self park in the back that only has 4 spaces. We parked across the street on a residential block. One of my favorite places on Long Island. Has a small parking lot but well worth parking far and walking the rest.. Great, friendly service and a very cheerful atmosphere. My order was prepared and served very quickly. Food is delicious and well-balanced. It's hard to find better fish dishes than Popei's in the area. I recommend the flounder fish and chips with seasoned waffle fries. read more

Delicious. Tried the drunken pork chop and it comes with a side of pasta ala vodka. Delicious. The portion was huge and it was so fresh and cooked perfectly. The bartender was attentive and the service was great. Looking forward to returning to try something else on the menu. read more

First time at Popei's, we went for lunch. Service was very good, the ambiance is very casual, menu has an extensive selection. The garlic bread was a nice change from regular Italian bread. The seafood bisque was flavorful, the steamers were a little bland, the lobster tail was cooked perfectly. It comes with a stuffed clam which was flavorful. Having read a number of positive reviews I thought it would be a good idea to check this place out for myself. Great decision. Hostess was very welcoming and that same upbeat vibe continued with all staff that with whom we interacted. Server was excellent and explained each special. I'm a big fan of ordering from a daily specials menu. You can always get the regular menu items anytime. Skirt steak and lobster was a nice choice. The fried shrimp platter from the regular menu was fresh and crispy. Nice size fresh salad was my side dish choice along with accompanying vegetables. Popei's in Bethpage has a reputation for serving fresh fish and they did for sure. Started with oyster and really crispy, non greasy, calamari. Full bar. Valet parking. This is a fun, busy place. Parking is valet due to the small size, but they are pretty quick. Food is fresh with good size servings that I usually take home part of. Seafood is fresh and cooked simply, as it should be. Calamari isn't rubbery (something that makes me crazy). Waitstaff is helpful and friendly. Restaurant is crowded but it works. Wow...let's start there. I went in on a Tuesday evening during Restaurant Week and this little place was PACKED. They offer complementary valet service which is nice because parking is nearly impossible otherwise. It seemed like a lot of the other patrons didn't even realize it was Restaurant Week, they were just regulars. I noticed they offered EXCELLENT daily specials including AYCE Crab Legs (at $75/pp right now). My friend and I went with the Restaurant Week specials. I started with the wedge salad which came with shrimp. A little heavy handed with the dressing for me, but otherwise amazing. The main, and star of the show, was the lobster ravioli served with shrimp in ala vodka sauce - Mama Mia Ugh, what a shame this isn't a regular menu item because it was amazing! The staff was very attentive, we both had the same drink (I forgot the name but it was tropical) and it was great, and we were seated right away with reservations. I would recommend this place, and HIGHLY recommended making a reservation. The parking lot is tight so be prepared/careful. read more

Wow! We found another seafood place that we can escape to, here! It's not a fancy schmancy restaurant so don't worry if you wear jeans and T-shirts. Just wear something. Don't come here naked and afraid. That's all. Our waitress was Gina, busy, friendly, and knew what she was doing. Other workers were well trained. They're quick to do what's next. We ordered our favorite steamers. We love steamers, so if you don't know what that is, it's a clam family, but you eat it with your hand by opening the outer part of the skin, dip it into the water on the side bowl, and then dip it into a butter cup, then eat it. I hardly do the second dip because I like steamers as is, no butter! Then, we went above and beyond and over the top by ordering stuffed lobster with crab meat. We also had a broiled combination platter. We chose Angel hair pasta in garlic and oil to accompany the entree. The lobster was amazing! To be honest, we didn't need the crab meat in a lobster because their stuffing was already very incredible. With the above-mentioned meals, who would be disappointed? My family and I have been coming to Popei's for years. We love grabbing their steamer bowl to share with the family and the complimentary garlic bread is one of the best we've had. We live in Lido Beach , so we're close to Jordan's and Pt Lookout Clam Bar but we're moving to Wantagh. Had a gift card so we decided to check it out. Not disappointed in the least. Came around 3 in the afternoon. Sat immediately and greeted quickly with menus and garlic bread. Got an order of steamers, fried shrimp and a hot lobster roll. On a Monday at lunchtime, this place was very busy, the service was superb, and so as the food, the freshest oysters I ever eaten, the mussels in white wine sauce where out of this world, believe me I am a foodie, and when it comes to seafood, I am very picky, no fishy's smell in this cozy restaurant. Ok Popei's pronounced like that spinach eating sailor Popeye, can solve that age old problem which clam chowder is better, New England or Manhattan by combining the two for an awesome dish. You can have your seafood any way you like ( broiled, fried, steamed and raw). If you're not feeling the seafood thing get a burger, ribs or an Italian dish, from the menu. I know in the restaurant business turnover is important but our appetizer came out fast, and as soon as that was done our main course was right on its way, no time to relax between meals.The hostess and waitress were friendly and welcoming, but the busboy's were right on top cleaning your table just as you finished. The he had the crab stuffed flounder. He said it is some of the best he has had. And that's saying something. I had the stuffed artichoke. I learned I liked steamed vs stuffed better. That said I made it work And followed this with the king crab scampi. It was the same sauce on the artichoke and king crab - or it seemed that way to me. I asked for some lemon and drawn butter. That gave me a little change up with was appreciated. This dish is the best king crab deal I have seen. If you like king crab, check it out!! Also had an ear of corn - wow. I came from Florida to DeerPark to visit my daughter and we decided to try Popei's for dinner. Wow! What a great decision. The food was so delicious and the service was top notch. I had the combination platter that came with shrimp, scallops, stuffed flounder, a stuffed shrimp and a giant baked clam with a side of linguini with garlic and oil. I've been here several times and I usually get the same thing, Thai chili calamari, which I love, it's not chewy. I ordered the Greek salad with grilled chicken, which is good also, just a lil skimpy with the tomatoes and cucumbers. You can't mess up a salad. When the bill arrived, it was over $104. I immediately questioned it because it didn't match what I had been told. The manager came to the table and informed me that they no longer offer the dinner special. The waitress then admitted, in front of everyone, that she had told me the special was available. At that point, the restaurant had a choice: stand behind the information their employee gave a customer or refuse to take responsibility. They chose the latter. The manager's response was simply, "Sorry, you have to pay for everything," followed by, "The waitress will have to pay for her mistake." That is not my concern. As a customer, I relied on the information your employee provided--twice. Had I been told there was no special, I would have ordered differently. Expecting a customer to absorb the cost of your employee's mistake is unacceptable. What was even more disappointing was the complete lack of professionalism, empathy, accountability, or any attempt to resolve the issue. I wish i could give more stars. I made this yelp just so I could review this restaurant! I can't even begin to explain how great this establishment is. We went in on Saturday night and it was busy, but we were sat quickly by Tony. This was great because whenever we go out we get nervous because my son is a little hard to handle in public. We were quickly greeted by Michelle. Now, my wife is VERY picky and I was starving and I forgot my glasses so I couldn't read the menu so I asked Michelle to please help me decide between the ribs, stuffed shrimp or linguine with white clam and she said "why not have it all?" She showed us that we could choose 3 different things and then get a side of linguine with white clam. This was also great for my wife because she also got to choose exactly what she wanted. My son was starting to get upset so Michelle gave him a piece of her paper from her pad and a pen and asked him to draw his favorite animal and show it to her when she got back with our appetizer. This act of kindness was greatly appreciated and rarely shown in busy restaurants. Anyway, ON TO THE FOOD...wow.... It was so good. The Thai calamari our waitress suggested was great and different from what we would have gone for. The coconut shrimp and the dipping sauces that came with it were amazing, just the right amount of crispiness and not greasy at all! The stuffed shrimp was out of this world and the ribs were cooked to perfection. I can't forget the linguine with white clam sauce. It was the best I have ever tried! My family and I have been frequenting Popei's in Bethpage for many years now and it honestly never disappoints. The hardest thing to find today is a restaurant that remains consistent time and time again, and this establishment has always set the bar high. The owner whom I believe is Joe, is always present with a smile, walking from table to table to make sure each and every patron is throughly satisfied. Every single item from clams to mussels are of the freshest and highest quality. The swordfish, salmon, and crab legs, prepared every way are simply amazing and served piping hot ALWAYS. Honestly, Im not one who has time to write reviews but had to take a moment to especially compliment the server staff. One particular favorite who is always on her game, is so polite and courteous, and who makes the best dish recommendations is the little cute bubbly Blonde (sometimes redish and sometimes black haired girl) named Audrey. She makes the experience at Popei's that much better. Server's like her are very rare these days and she is definitely one of the best I have encountered in many many years. Being an Italian and having had consumed mouthwatering seafood in cities as Napoli and the islands of Capri and ischia, Greece, Portugal and hundreds of other countries, thus far I could not find seafood comparable to those I have enjoyed overseas, until my good friend, Alan from Alanaction, asked my son l, Giuseppe, and I, Rosario, to join him for a two hour trip from waterbury, CT to bethpage, NY to eat seafood. I am a reporter and I write the truth. I am also an ex US government employee. I accepted Alan's offer, with apprehension. The service, the servers, the owner, Giuseppe were not only professionals, but caring individuals. If there were 1000 stars to offer in a review, i would give it, but 1000 stars is not enough. The seafood compares to the fresh and mouthwatering seafood I consumed overseas. The fish is super fresh, but this restaurant offers something that not even those great restaurants overseas offer and that is quantity. The amount of food one receives is overwhelming. Absolutely delicious seafood and food in general. The waitress we had seemed to be very informed about the menu options which really helped when deciding what we wanted for our first time eating there. I was stuck between two choices and the waitress gave me her preference. I had a pasta seafood dish with Alfredo sauce called the Betta Fetta. Was a simple dish, but there were plenty chunks of seafood in it (which told me that they like to be generous about their seafood portions ). They have a non-seafood section too that looked pretty good as well. I saw there were daily specials Sunday- Wednesday but there could have been more days. Desserts were $8 (7.99) which was kind of high in my opinion, but when the desserts came out they were big enough to share! Especially after such a big dinner portion. I used to think this place was good but then I ate here a few times and I realized not the best quality or flavor. You get food value for your money and they have nice specials like All you can eat crab legs but I've been to better places. It gets very crowded during peak times and it's not the most comfortable dining experience. Feels like you're eating in an old crowded bar so dont plan on coming here for ambiance or a romantic date. If you're looking for a good deal for mediocre quality seafood then this is your place. For high end tasting seafood, i suggest looking elsewhere. We had my birthday dinner there tonight and it was fantastic from start to finish. The hostess welcomed us with a smile as soon as we walked in and we got sat right down. Shelby took our drink orders and the Odyssey coconut drink was so good we had to have 2! Our waitress was Nancy and we loved her instantly. So helpful and so so nice! My husband and I took some very dear friends here on Saturday and let me tell you that we had the best time! The food was great and the service was even better. Everyone was so friendly. Just had a great dinner with the family. King Crab legs were delicious and a good portion. Daughter had a combo of shell fish over linguini that she loved. Son not into seafood, so he has a Hugh chicken parm, half went home. Their special Long Island Clam Chowder (a mix of red and white) was very good. Captain Ihab came up and off we went. Seating was immediate and water was delivered straight away. Space is tight inside along Main Street so if you want a little room to stretch your legs, you're better off either at a pair of tables on the sidewalk or outside in back under a covered patio. It was raining when we dined, so we opted for inside seating. If we had to do it again, we would go outside in the back adjacent to the parking lot. They don't have their beer and wine license yet, so feel free to bring your own- ( there's a brewery 3 doors down....) and enjoy your own choice of beverage. Oysters are almost religious for me so doing them right is important. While they were very fresh, they didn't shuck to separate the oyster from the shell in 80% of our order. If you serve them, please do it correctly in the future. Almost nothing worse than dressing them just the way you like them and then having to use a knife to separate them from the shell. On the plus side- the horse radish was excellent and had that bite you look for. We also had some grilled calamari and the fish and shrimp tacos. Both orders were delicious but when you think of shrimp and fish tacos, think of one shrimp and one fish taco- not two with a combination of both on one shell. Servers came frequently to check on the food but only filled water glasses when asked. Surprisingly great prices on everything including the oysters- $2 each! Probably one of my favorites was the New England clam chowder - creamy, hot and full of pieces of clams. Well done. When in the area, we would certainly come back and have another meal but maybe sit outside to have a little more room.

He stops and points at a table in the back, gesturing for me to squeeze between two customers. I choose to walk around a different way and the host is still gesturing for me to squeeze between to chairs when the host himself wouldn't even walk through. It was beyond strange. We sit down and have some time and order our drinks and my friend knows we need to order the rest of our meal at the same time. We order baked oysters and I ordered the special- lamb My friend orders the flounder with risotto because it never disappoints We ordered the cappuccino heath bar ice cream pie and that was incredible! May have been my favorite part of the meal We received the ice cream pie and not even a minute later, a server, who was different than our original server, put the check down. And not even 10 minutes later, he came to check if we had put down a credit card It was not even 10pm yet (mind you, they close at 11pm) I can understand if it was past closing and we were the only ones left but it wasn't even close and there were still other patrons. As we were wrapping up, you could feel them circling our table and staring us down. By the time we left, it wasn't even 10:30pm. Despite the good food, this left a sour taste in my mouth.
