the place was crowded but we were seated promptly by a nice gentleman. the place looks small from the outside but once you enter there's plenty of seating room. the waitress we had was very friendly and made sure we was happy with everything. oysters on the half shell were fresh and delicious.I also had broiled lamb chops that were cooked a perfectly medium rare and just melted in my mouth. wifey had the shrimp franchise and said it was absolutely delicious. my friend's fried sampler platter and his wife's steak and snow crab legs they said were also very good. I loved the family atmosphere and will definitely be returning to try some more of of their delicious food. read more

This is one of those cramped dimly lit sticky floor places with super friendly servers and lots of customers...so you know it's going to be good. All the seafood and pastas were delicious, flavors were authentic, and our servers were so friendly...always coming back with a smile and making sure we were happy. It's busy but we didn't wait long for a Sunday night, it was still so crowded though. We were with family and it was kid friendly, nothing fancy but definitely worth the visits. read more

Stephanie our waitress was amazing. She promptly greeted us aas we were seated in ththe outside patio tent which we had never seen before and it was great. Very spacious, tables not on top of each other. The football games were playing on the tv's so all good. We opted to skip appetizer ordered double TNT'S and then for the food. Madona mia the food. My wife got the blackened halibut over roasted butternut squash and roasted cherry tomatoes and all I can say is this dish is a shoshow stopper. Absolutely gas it was tremendous. She also had a baked potato with butter and sour cream and that was delicious as always. My wife is the Queen of clam sauce and doesn't order it when we go out so I figured I would give it a shot and I was not dissapointed. (Not as great as my wifes since she reads these reviews ) but it was delicious. So so many chopped class, some big chunks, some fine bits and all together just amazing. Stephanie was very attentive throughout our entire meal and offered us dessert but we were filled to the brim. This place has been a go to since 1985 I highly recommend you check it out. read more

Bon G and I were in Levittown and hankered for some good grub! We checked Yelp and checked what was in the immediate area and we chose Popei's Clam Bar in Bethpage as we never had anything less than a stellar meal there! Got an Open Table rezzy for 4:30 and zipped over after our appt. We noticed that the lot had been upgraded and paved...gave a better look to the restaurant. Upon entering we were greeted and seated at a nice large table in the dining room. We wee welcomed by our server Nicole...she was terrific and helped us choose our fare...After deliberations we chose for appys; 12 Topnecks raw and a huge bucket of mussels...both were TERRIFFIC! We had intended to get two entres but the next table got a 4 lb Lobster which looked incredible...trash the entres and we got a 4 lb'er steamed. I have to tell you that after other lobster specials on the Island this summer, This denizen of the deep was the BEST we had. cooked to perfection by Joe, chief cook and bottle washer! He kept checking in on us to see how we were coming. We left nothing but orange shells and finished the meal with smiles on our faces, and a full belly! After a day at the beach, my little girls tells me that she is in the mood for some clam chowder. We found Popei's Clam Bar on the way home. Ambience: At a glance, Popei is a little off the beaten path... sort of in a commercial area where everything else is closed at night. Walking in, it has the atmosphere of a pub, with lots of wood paneling, a bar in the back and TV screens with ball games on. The tables are all separated by glass partitions for the COVID weary. Food: Oysters on half shell - served on a bed of ice with cocktail sauce and mignonette sauce. 4/5 Fried clams - freshly shucked and fried. Crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside. 5/5 New England Clam Chowder - a little watery, with a lot of celery. Only a few bits of clam. Might be end of the night and this is what's left. 3/5 Linguine with White Clam - generous chunks of clams served on top of linguine. 4/5 Service: extremely friendly and attentive servers. They noticed my son's tea bag ripped and offered to get him another cup of tea. read more

Looking for a place close by to get some fresh oysters on a Saturday, we used our trusty Yelp app to find this local hangout and casual bar/restaurant. Located in a tiny strip mall it's easy enough to find with a nicely sized sign out front and ample parking to match although the latter seems like it would become more difficult when the restaurant is full. Arriving just after 1 PM, there were already a few patrons at the bar and at tables or booths throughout. Very casual dining can be expected but the service is attentive and generally excellent. Our server was the bartender who i suppose takes care of the tables that are near the bar and we had no complaints at all. Beside the daily specials there are both lunch and dinner menus available that ar very extensive. We asked to try a dozen oysters and some of the house favorites including: crab cakes, Thai calamari, and the lobster salad. Everything came out evenly spaced and delicious. Like almost all restaurants on the island, prices were a bit steep but the freshness, portions and service made up for this. Very impressed and they will see again in the future for sure. read more

One word...Fantastic. I had the Manhattan soup for an appetizer. It was rich and hearty...served piping hot. My entree was a lunch sized portion of shrimp fettuccine. The Alfredo sauce was probably the best I've tasted...ever. The shrimp were huge and cooked to perfection. What a treat this meal was! When the asked if I wanted a dessert and coffee, I had to decline as I was stuffed. The chef came out and checked to see if everything was good. The restaurant has a familial ambiance to it. read more

Once again had dinner last night at the best seafood restaurant on long island . Arrived at 6:45 with a 7pm reservation and the place was packed but was seated immediately. Settled into the only booth in the restaurant and was of course soon greeted with the complimentary basket of warm toasty garlic bread, was so looking forward to this all day. Ordered a glass of the house red and the fried seaford combo was great as always while my better half had a claim chowder cup followed by the stuffed seafood dinner. Our waitress was friendly and efficient as always is the case. Our only " complaint" is the dinners are way to large and cause me to carry home a large bag of leftovers for another day. Prices are great in these inflationary times not trying to take advantage of their customers. This restaurant knows how to build and maintain a popular business. read more

Service is exceptional. The waiter gave me an extra cup of ice on the side just because she wasn't sure if I wanted it or not. They also gave us an extra cannoli! The seats outside were the only ones available but I prefer it out here as it is nice and calm. Food was DELICIOUS!! Definitely recommend the lobster or shrimp scampi with linguine. read more

This place was better than it was 30 years ago. Food was amazing, service fantastic, they have an outdoor area so you font have to be crowded in. We had the best clams, the cocktail sauce was perfect, I have the mussels marinara (medium) spice super delish and the wife had the world famous White Cloud. We will be coming back soon read more

Very nice Clam Bar. Got invited here for a birthday celebration. I am not a BIG seafood eater, but they have something for everyone here. Loved the service, our waitress was funny and sweet with great recommendations. She kept the table happy and drinks coming. I am ready to come back just to get some more of the buffalo shrimp appetizer. They were amazing. I had the salmon and it was nice and fresh. Better than the one I try to make at home! My husband had a seafood pasta that he liked as well. The other couple we came with got crabs and clams which they liked. They're repeat customers of Popei's. We went to grab a quick bite at Popeis. The food was okay, service was fine, can't speak much on ambiance because we were outside and it was a bit grey out. The staff however was kind, we were chilly and asked them to turn off the fans so they did. (Always appreciate when staff tries to make sure you're comfortable) We had the Thai calamari which I loved, and I had the mussels. I was told to try the spinach but to be honest it didn't taste as amazing as I was told it would. It was fine. Overall not a bad place to go to. I recently visited this location with friends. They gave us complimentary garlic bread was very good. For my entree I had the "Linguine with the works" which includes mostly mussels with some clams, shrimp, calamari, scungilli and scallops with the medium marinara sauce which comes in a large bowl. It was so good I finished the whole thing. Overall it was an excellent dish but the scallops were very small and there wasn't that many clams. I would have paid more for larger portions of the clams and scallops which for me would have made the dish perfect. Our server was very friendly and attentive and service was excellent. I would highly recommend this place and look forward to going back next time I'm in the area. read more

I'm visiting my friend here in Queens, and we had to run some errands in Bethpage, so when we looked up seafood places, we were sent here. the Yelp reviews do not lie!! The place doesn't look like much from the outside, just like a neighborhood joint. However, on the inside, homey and comfortable. We were there for a late lunch, so we got right in. However, from all the chairs in front, as well as the fact that they take reservations, I have a feeling that it gets Busy!!! We had excellent service. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. I started with the "Long Island Chowder." I normally, do not like Manhattan clam chowder at all. However, this was New England and Manhattan combined, and it worked!! It made the Manhattan chowder like a creamy tomato soup. I loved it!! For the main course, my partner had the linguine with clams. She said that the pasta was perfect, as was the clams. Done just right. I had the Popei Special, Mussels, clams, scungilli, (Like a conch, or a sea snail,) calamari, shrimp, scallops, broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms and zucchini over linguine in butter garlic sauce. Oh, man, was it good! The perfect amount of seafood and veggies. I normally don't like to "work for my meal", but this time, I did not mind it at all. The mussels, clams, and everything else was done perfectly. The pasta was al dente, and the seafood and veggies were perfectly tender. We both dug into our main dishes so fast, I forgot to get a picture!. We had the lunch portion, and we still had enough for a very generous midnight snack the same night. For all we got, plus a soda and tip, the prices were extremely reasonable. We already want to come back! Thanks!!! read more

I would give Popei's 10 stars, if I could. I drove 2 hours + just to get here another time over the July 4th long weekend. Yes, it is worth it. Not my first visit, as you might have guessed. This place has been around for decades and for good reason. The seafood is SO VERY FRESH and delicious... omg. Every bite. Seafood not your thing? No problem. The Italian dishes are amazing, too. We absolutely love this place !!! The food is awesome. We have had a variety of dishes from lobster to baby lamp chops and everything is always delicious and cooked just right. Seafood bisque is amazing. Brazilian lobster tail (12 oz) amazing. I had mussels that were by far my favorite mussel pot anywhere. Portions are generous and the specialty cocktails are great. Everything there is fabulous. The staff is warm and friendly and aim to please. It's casual and we like that family feeling. We actually feel like family when we are there. Joe, the owner goes to table to table on a busy Saturday night to greet everyone personally. I haven't been anywhere else that the owner/ chef takes the time to do that. Shout outs to Reine , Javier , and Joe. We love you !!! Parking is easy because there is a valet. This is by far my go to seafood place. Everything is fresh. They also do special orders in advance. Best to make reservations as it's very popular...came here with friends for dinner for a birthday celebration. Valet parking as it's a shared parking lot with other stores. Service and staff were good. Social distancing enforced with dividers between tables. Menu has a variety of food to choose from...complimentary bread was really good. Don't fill yourself up too much before your meal. There is also bar seating and tvs to watch sports - whatever is on. Shared appetizers: Mussels in white wine sauce and baked clams oregenato were good. FYI: Coated fries = regular straight cut fries and Seasoned fries = curly fries Snow crab leg dinner was good enough to share between 3 people...one leg for each :) Chicken marsala, swordfish, lobster ravioli, shell fish frenzy, shrimp spectacular were all good. Yes I recommend Popei's Clam Bar. They have the best all you can eat deals on Thursday. My favorite is the Shrimp Scampi and there fried shrimp are the best, so fresh and delicious. Can't wait to go back. read more

After the pandemic struck down a number of our favorite restaurants, there was room for an addition of two to take their place. After I took my wife there for her birthday dinner, it was mission accomplished. She asked for this in particular because a lot of people in her local Facebook group raved about the place. Upon seating, we were given a tray of extraordinarily good garlic toast. I ordered the appetizer sampler plate and she got the stuffed eggplant that included shrimp, scallops and a generous portion of cheese. While waiting for the food to arrive, Joe the owner came by, noticed that we were unfamiliar faces in a bustling restaurant, and made sure that we felt welcomed. Rarely have we felt so welcomed, as Joe came by every ten or 15 minutes to make sure all was well. At a medium sized restaurant in a strip mall, one would not guess that the food would be superbly well presented, but that was just one more surprise. Best Seafood ever and so fresh. They will tweak the entree if you want to change it a bit. Great waitresses who have been there forever in some cases. They give you a FULL glass of wine! Ohhhh man was PCB an experience. I had no idea it existed until a seafood craving got the best of me and I looked to Yelp for some help. (Heh heh that rhymes) Reservations were strongly recommended so I made a rezzie for 2 people at 7:30 on a Sunday night. We got there at 7:20 gave our car to the complimentary valet service, and were seated by 7:35. Zero complaints. The menu was overwhelming with its variety of options. I had the New England clam chowder which was delicious. It was unfortunately 500 degrees on Long Island that day so the soup didn't have that "warm my bones" effect that is usually did. My dad had the Long Island Clam chowder, a mix of the New England and Manhattan styles. When it came time to entrees, my dad had the tuna steak, done medium. I went for the cavatelli dish, a mix of scallops and shrimp tossed in pasta with marinara and mozzarella cheese. The portion was massive. The dish was well cooked and flavorful, but did nothing to satisfy my seafood craving. It's not Popei's fault - I should have ordered a fish steak too. By dessert time, we felt like beached whales and passed on the after-dinner sweets. Maybe next time? There will definitely be a next time. I'll "sea" them real soon! read more

I wish i could give more stars. I made this yelp just so I could review this restaurant! I can't even begin to explain how great this establishment is. We went in on Saturday night and it was busy, but we were sat quickly by Tony. This was great because whenever we go out we get nervous because my son is a little hard to handle in public. We were quickly greeted by Michelle. Now, my wife is VERY picky and I was starving and I forgot my glasses so I couldn't read the menu so I asked Michelle to please help me decide between the ribs, stuffed shrimp or linguine with white clam and she said "why not have it all?" She showed us that we could choose 3 different things and then get a side of linguine with white clam. This was also great for my wife because she also got to choose exactly what she wanted. My son was starting to get upset so Michelle gave him a piece of her paper from her pad and a pen and asked him to draw his favorite animal and show it to her when she got back with our appetizer. This act of kindness was greatly appreciated and rarely shown in busy restaurants. Anyway, ON TO THE FOOD...wow.... It was so good. The Thai calamari our waitress suggested was great and different from what we would have gone for. The coconut shrimp and the dipping sauces that came with it were amazing, just the right amount of crispiness and not greasy at all! The stuffed shrimp was out of this world and the ribs were cooked to perfection. I can't forget the linguine with white clam sauce. It was the best I have ever tried! My family and I have been frequenting Popei's in Bethpage for many years now and it honestly never disappoints. The hardest thing to find today is a restaurant that remains consistent time and time again, and this establishment has always set the bar high. The owner whom I believe is Joe, is always present with a smile, walking from table to table to make sure each and every patron is throughly satisfied. Every single item from clams to mussels are of the freshest and highest quality. The swordfish, salmon, and crab legs, prepared every way are simply amazing and served piping hot ALWAYS. Honestly, Im not one who has time to write reviews but had to take a moment to especially compliment the server staff. One particular favorite who is always on her game, is so polite and courteous, and who makes the best dish recommendations is the little cute bubbly Blonde (sometimes redish and sometimes black haired girl) named Audrey. She makes the experience at Popei's that much better. Server's like her are very rare these days and she is definitely one of the best I have encountered in many many years. Being an Italian and having had consumed mouthwatering seafood in cities as Napoli and the islands of Capri and ischia, Greece, Portugal and hundreds of other countries, thus far I could not find seafood comparable to those I have enjoyed overseas, until my good friend, Alan from Alanaction, asked my son l, Giuseppe, and I, Rosario, to join him for a two hour trip from waterbury, CT to bethpage, NY to eat seafood. I am a reporter and I write the truth. I am also an ex US government employee. I accepted Alan's offer, with apprehension. The service, the servers, the owner, Giuseppe were not only professionals, but caring individuals. If there were 1000 stars to offer in a review, i would give it, but 1000 stars is not enough. The seafood compares to the fresh and mouthwatering seafood I consumed overseas. The fish is super fresh, but this restaurant offers something that not even those great restaurants overseas offer and that is quantity. The amount of food one receives is overwhelming. The waitress we had seemed to be very informed about the menu options which really helped when deciding what we wanted for our first time eating there. I was stuck between two choices and the waitress gave me her preference. I had a pasta seafood dish with Alfredo sauce called the Betta Fetta. Was a simple dish, but there were plenty chunks of seafood in it (which told me that they like to be generous about their seafood portions ). They have a non-seafood section too that looked pretty good as well. I saw there were daily specials Sunday- Wednesday but there could have been more days. Desserts were $8 (7.99) which was kind of high in my opinion, but when the desserts came out they were big enough to share! Especially after such a big dinner portion. From the minute we walked in the door and were greeted by super friendly (and funny) Dawn and Rachel, to our AMAZING SERVER, Toni. Toni anticipated our every need and took care of us before we needed to ask for anything! She was friendly, and professional and obviously very experienced. I used to think this place was good but then I ate here a few times and I realized not the best quality or flavor. You get food value for your money and they have nice specials like All you can eat crab legs but I've been to better places. It gets very crowded during peak times and it's not the most comfortable dining experience. Feels like you're eating in an old crowded bar so dont plan on coming here for ambiance or a romantic date. If you're looking for a good deal for mediocre quality seafood then this is your place. For high end tasting seafood, i suggest looking elsewhere. City Island has better seafood restaurants. read more

Great place, great food great staff! Dawn the hostess was extremely pleasant! Smiling even though they were crazy busy. She executed her job flawlessly ! Toni our waitress, was incredibly amazing ! Her hands were filled, with many customers to serve and still didn't miss a beat! She was happy, smiling and actually seemed to enjoy her job! Service was spot on !!! We had my birthday dinner there tonight and it was fantastic from start to finish. The hostess welcomed us with a smile as soon as we walked in and we got sat right down. Shelby took our drink orders and the Odyssey coconut drink was so good we had to have 2! Our waitress was Nancy and we loved her instantly. So helpful and so so nice! The owner came over twice to make sure all was good. Food was outstanding and the ambiance was so warm and welcoming. We will surely be back!!! My husband and I took some very dear friends here on Saturday and let me tell you that we had the best time! The food was great and the service was even better. Everyone was so friendly. Our waitress, Michelle was able to keep up with my husband's crazy jokes and she had a great sense of humor! She also kept the drinks coming which was exactly what we needed! The best part was she also must have overheard us talking because she surprised us with a cake for our 41 year anniversary. Very attentive and sweet. I stopped here one morning to meet up with a friend and I didn't actually expect to eat here. We had some time to kill and I was pretty hungry, so I checked out the menu. The full salads were expensive for how much I wanted to eat that the moment, so I asked if they could make their specialty salads in a "side salad" size. Although the woman at the counter looked a tad perplexed, she consulted the manager who finally said it was okay to do. Just had a great dinner with the family. King Crab legs were delicious and a good portion. Daughter had a combo of shell fish over linguini that she loved. Son not into seafood, so he has a Hugh chicken parm, half went home. Their special Long Island Clam Chowder (a mix of red and white) was very good. My wife had the French onion which was delicious too. We ate way too much of their fresh garlic and Italian bread. As always servers were on the ball and very attentive. Love this place. read more

This establishment is always a home run! It's always so difficult to make a decision on what to have. Everything from starters to dessert is so enticing. The Thai Chili Calamari are fantastic, always cooked to perfection. The steak and lobster here were amazing. Plenty of staff on hand, helping your every need and request. Love Popei's, I go there at least once a month with a buddy of mine as well as my son. The food is always fresh and the service is great. Sometimes we have to wait for a table but it is worth it. Okay. Came here when visiting family and I've had better seafood. The host was pretty rude because she ignored us while we stood in front of her awkwardly so she could chat with a co-worker instead (and judging by their conversation, it wasn't time-sensitive at all...). Space is tight inside along Main Street so if you want a little room to stretch your legs, you're better off either at a pair of tables on the sidewalk or outside in back under a covered patio. It was raining when we dined, so we opted for inside seating. If we had to do it again, we would go outside in the back adjacent to the parking lot. They don't have their beer and wine license yet, so feel free to bring your own- ( there's a brewery 3 doors down....) and enjoy your own choice of beverage. Oysters are almost religious for me so doing them right is important. While they were very fresh, they didn't shuck to separate the oyster from the shell in 80% of our order. If you serve them, please do it correctly in the future. Almost nothing worse than dressing them just the way you like them and then having to use a knife to separate them from the shell. On the plus side- the horse radish was excellent and had that bite you look for. We also had some grilled calamari and the fish and shrimp tacos. Both orders were delicious but when you think of shrimp and fish tacos, think of one shrimp and one fish taco- not two with a combination of both on one shell. Servers came frequently to check on the food but only filled water glasses when asked. Surprisingly great prices on everything including the oysters- $2 each! Probably one of my favorites was the New England clam chowder - creamy, hot and full of pieces of clams. Well done. When in the area, we would certainly come back and have another meal but maybe sit outside to have a little more room.

As we were wrapping up, you could feel them circling our table and staring us down. By the time we left, it wasn't even 10:30pm. Despite the good food, this left a sour taste in my mouth.
