We saw an ad on TV for a $20 festival family box. After downloading the app and jumping through all the bells and whistles, it cost $25.99. After getting to the store, I asked why it cost $6 more. He said because I ordered the mac n cheese as a side. Hello, it comes with 4 sides and that is one of them. I'm not an accountant but that doesn't add up. He also let me know, "it's really good mac n cheese", uuhhhhhh, not really. He also said they are a franchisee and their prices don't match what I see on TV. I also placed the order for a specific time. I got there at least 15 minutes early and it was already bagged up. This means if I would have shown up at that time, It would have been bagged up for at least 20 minutes. There were absolutely NO customers in the store. I guess I could have just shown up and placed the order. My bad !!! The food itself, except the mac n cheese, was overall pretty decent. The spicy chicken, tenders, beans n rice & biscuits were good. It wasn't greasy or dried out. This should probably be a 2 1/2 - 3 star rating but If you see an add for a certain amount, it would just be nice to get it for that price and not feel duped out of a few bucks. Lesson learned. Was delighted to find what Popeye's chicken was all about. Became a couple times a month kind of ritual. Moved 200 miles away to Redmond, OR. Every couple of years we have to go into the valley for medical stuff. We always bring a cooler to bring Popeye's home. Last three times in a row, they've forgotten something we paid for. My husband and I have been wanting to try Popeye's Chicken for a very long time and finally decided to do so this weekend. We were put off by the number of negative reviews for this particular location but it was the closest one to us, so we decided to give it a gamble. Both of us agree, we have no idea why there are so many negative reviews - this place was great! Just for clarification, it's located inside a busy truck stop (no drive-thru but this turned into an advantage for us) so parking was a little bit inconvenient, but that is not the fault of the restaurant. Once inside, there were several people waiting on their order and several people in line waiting to order, but that gave us time to study the menu. Once we got to the window the cashier was very polite and asked us if we minded waiting a bit while he helped get some orders out. We told him of course not and he thanked us profusely. They were obviously understaffed, but I don't know if they had people call out or they were unexpectedly busy, but, let me tell you, those workers were hustling! After a few minutes the cashier came back, thanked us again, and we ordered a combo and a platter and best of all CHOCOLATE BEIGNETS (oh my stars!). [While we were waiting (and here's where the no drive-thru was an advantage for us) we looked around the store to kill some time. I was thrilled to find some small squeaky rubber chickens for my nieces (okay, and one for me), they love stuff like this! I know this doesn't have to do with the restaurant review but I am loving those squeaky chickens (my cats, not so much)]. Anyway, once we got our food we were pleased at how delicious it was. I usually don't like fast food mac & cheese but I really liked Popeye's and the mashed potatoes with the Cajun gravy was wonderful; we both liked the extra kick from the gravy. We ordered the mild chicken because we weren't sure how "spicy" the other kind would be but we will definitely order some spicy next time because the mild was so good. This is a bad Popeyes. I am not loving the chicken at this Popeyes. I ordered a two piece white meat spicy. I got two thighs that appeared to have been sitting for awhile. I tried to eat it, but couldn't finish it. It was bad. I used to work at Popeyes two decades ago, I would not have let this chicken go to a customer. I really dislike thighs, they are my least favorite part of A chicken. My side was Cajun rice, which you can see they served with the scooper for the mashed potatoes, haven't they heard of cross contamination? The biscuit tasted old and hard. Now, what I did like is that when I asked for butter, honey and hot sauce, the lady in the drive-thru informed me it was already in the bag, she even had Cajun sparkle and grape jelly! I'll give two stars for the food. But they are definitely not "fast" at this location. Matter of fact, I've never seen such slow service! While I was there a customer had an order of 36 pieces of chicken. When he picked up the order he had forgotten to order an order of fry's (which are there...ready to go...bin food) but she made him wait (not an exaggeration) in line again which took 30 minutes to get back to the front. I as third in line and it took me 20 minutes to order. And before we point out "lack of staffing" they had the same number staff as I've seen here prior to Covid. The service was good, pleasant and efficient. We got what we ordered and it was ready in less than 5 minutes. I had my standard shrimp PoBoy sandwich and my friend had the two piece combo... I wish we had looked closer at the menu, the two piece combo was 9.19 and the three piece is 9.59, clearly a better value. The place wasn't all that clean - the floor had trash on it and the empty tables were not clean either.
