I saw a recommendation for Golden Union, and so we made our way over there for lunch towards the latter half of our trip. The place itself is unsuspecting but ended up being actually very cute when we went inside. The neon signs and vintage furniture make it feel cozy. The staff themselves were also very welcoming. We sat down and were handed menus and waters. I decided to split the haddock and chips with my friend while my other friends got their own portion of cod and chips. Everything was pricey, but it is London. The waitress was also very engaging and friendly since she noticed we were tourists and also helped one of my friends with his journey to try British tea for the first time. Overall, she was so sweet. Despite not having crazy high expectations, the haddock and chips was incredible. The fish was soft, and the chips were fresh and not oily at all. It felt very fresh, and I finished my portion feeling very satisfied. My friends let me try their cod, and the cod was also fantastic--very buttery. The haddock is definitely my favorite though. Would come back on my next trip!

I was fortunate to come here just before it was peak dinner time and I did see a lot of people waiting. If you look to come here at usually meal times, be ready for a wait! What Is great about this establishment is that they have many options for your fish in case you are craving something in particular. With it being my first time here, I was looking to try either the Haddock or Cod, and decided on the Haddock. Once I received my fish and chips, I was ready to eat and wow the fish was so good and well fried. I tasted how good the fried batter was while all the flavor of the fish was still inside! I could eat this fried fish all day! The batter had the flakiness to it which added a nice texture. As for the chips (fries), I will say that they were average and nothing too special. However, keep that appetite for the fish! Make sure you finish that! Service itself was pretty fast and prompt. They definitely look to get your food quickly so you can enjoy your meal so they can accommodate as many people as possible.

They have 3 locations in London. We were lucky to be seated immediately and placed our order. We each started with a drink. They have beer, wine, juices and soft drinks. We also had an.order of olives to.go with our fish. Portions are huge! We each had the haddock which was delicious. Not greasy at all! The inside is relatively small and they don't have outdoor seating so don't be surprised if there is a line out the door during peak times. Takeout is also very popular. For anyone with a GF allergy,Hobsons is a good place to go and try the local favorite of Fish & Chips.

Watching her serve other tables, she gave most patrons drinks after their food was served. The cod was really good and meaty. The onion rings were amazing. The fries/chips were only okay. There was no salt on them and they weren't crispy at all. We got a tiny container of tartar sauce. It was hard to get her attention, so I finished the last half without anything. I don't know if the quality of fish and chips is typical for London, but I'm not that impressed. A small town on the Oregon coast had the best fish and chips ever. I will say, the onion rings were the best even though they were a little greasy. The coleslaw is not like USA slaw, but it was pretty good. I will probably try another restaurant for fish and chips to get a good comparison.

Anyway we still ate well and had a good time and the bubbles and a good bottle of wine went down very well One off night in all these years isn't going to put us off a return visit

Yelp is not as popular in England, so I took to the internet to find a place which led us to The Windmill. We came to the pub on a weekday evening. When we arrived there were a ton of young adults on the streets drinking and hanging out. Initially, I thought there was a long wait, but I learned it's part of the culture. When we walked inside, we were seated immediately. The restaurant is quaint, cozy, and a fun pub with a rooftop bar as well (reservations recommended for the rooftop). It gets quite loud and lively inside but that's part of the culture. The service by all was greatly appreciated. I have dietary restrictions and they went the extra mile to check in with me. All of the staff who helped us were kind and courteous. She had the Dorset Lamb Shepherd's Pie which she quite enjoyed. I had the Smoked Salmon, King Prawn & Atlantic Haddock Fisherman's Pie. My pie came piping hot. There was a lot of seafood inside--it was rich, creamy, and hearty. I was only able to eat half. He got the Pork and Sage Sausage Roll which was savory and reminded me of an elevated pigs blanket. For dessert, we shared the Sticky Toffee Pudding which was so good! So moist, sweet, warm and delicious. We were all pleasantly surprised with our meals as everything was delicious. I recommend The Windmill for a classic and fun pub meal in SoHo. It's easy to find off the side street on Mill Street. We enjoyed our first taste of British food here!
